@Friendly I think... they meant the original metroid on NES? Thats the only one that makes no sense. I am assuming they mistook it with the first metroid prime.
@Tyranexx yes but I would like that they would not lock hard mode under beating normal. That way people who want to play it once in the highest difficulty, do not need to bother beating it twice.
@Magrane I am going to share this sentiment with you (maybe our profile icons reveal our old school difficulty liking haha).
Restoring all your health after reloading to your last save point reads like cheese and rewarding you for dying (instead of punishing). Just think about how weird the scenario plays when reaching a boss with half your health to inmediately think... oh I better die to start this with full health! Its counter-intuitive.
@BlackenedHalo Would you think the same if the game had japanese only audio and no options for english subtitles? Not completely disagreeing with you but just want to see how far your opinion goes for.
Thank you so much for the developer who came and nicely contributed to complete this review! I am convinced after hearing how much passion and soul you put into this niche but extremely unique game. I am getting it at my next paycheck!
Now having said the nice words first, if people allow me to throw a little jab haha. But thank you also for unintentionally exposing the reviewer lack of depth in their analysis : 😂. This was an elegant and very classy way of telling someone to be better at their job! Cheers!
@Medic_alert Definitely. Maybe I have nostalgia googles and personal bias, but I do remember when N64 would have 3D as part of its uniqueness, the DS the dual screens or the Wii the motion controls. We would be wondering how would the new games utilize these features to provide a new experience rather than asking how good they would look.
@Medic_alert I agree so much with what you say. Its disheartening to see this is the kind of novelty that we are supposed to be excited at.
But can we really blame it on gaming and console devs when people have been asking for consoles that are the same but stronger? Sadly this gaming generation is all about that, with Nintendo even joining the fray with Switch 1 to Switch 2 "upgrades".
@Truegamer79 Fans of the original 2 games waited for YEARS for the series to continue. It build up one of the most profitable kickstarter campaigs full of crazy metrics and goals and the product released was as mediocre as it gets.
Not only the gameplay is extremely boring, repetitive and randomly difficult at times (in not a good way), but also the story/plot literally went nowhere as it felt like one of those anime filler episodes that you could take out. They reused older models of characters for some enemies, the plot points that they left hanging after Shenmue 2 were ignored and the new characters introduced were hollow and bland. I could continue on and on with many things (money requirements to advance the game, creepy face models, cutscenes that start and end with long black loading times, two cities that follow the same predictable pacing) but I think you can get the idea.
I dont care at all about game key cards and I also feel that for those who matter, it is kinda of a losing war (pretty much fighting modern times in entertainment which always ends up in digital storage triumphing over practical limiting space. But having said that, I think if the topic really matters to you, you should make your voice be heard. Maybe it will be useful or maybe not (what I personally think) but at least you will know that you did your part to try to keep something that was precious to you. Dont give up physical storage lovers.
If I understand correctly, you still can play the switch 1 version on switch 2 console right? Its not like its not backward compatible, but rather that; say you buy the switch 1 version and play it on your switch 2, it would be non perfectly optimized.
Please correct me if I get this wrong. Its a bit confusing.
Now this is the kind of review that I like when talking about old school mechanics. Its well constructed and clearly explaining on how the challenging and obtuse difficulty of the games back then (which is intended) are appealing to some but not others, instead of slapping "its old so its a con!".
This was a great read and even when I am not in the urge to buy it, I will definitely get this at some point!
@Drnsnsr I agree with you. I am not going hardcore into disregarding the reviewer work, since as you say he does mention quite a lot of true issues with this remaster. But the gameplay comment of RNG being a con in all 3 reviews of this series is a bit weird since it reads like he was expecting this to change at some point?... or that the remaster would somehow change this core mechanic that was present in all 3 games? I think RNG is definitely not for everyone but for the fans of this franchise it was never such a big issue (as you could see in the original reviews of this game).
I think this whole remaster series was a bit of a letdown because of how much missed potential there was in terms of graphics, sound and QoL details. It really would have been better if they had released this as a trilogy collection where you can play the 3 of them in their enhanced ports version (think of it like megaman collection games).
Having said that and hopefully this does not get read in a wrong way, I do not understand why the reviewer who already disliked the RNG component of the first game (which I heavily disagree about it being a design flaw, in fact its all interconnected into the strategy of the series), continued with the second and third game. A bit of a masochistic way of doing things if you ask me. It would be like me being asked to review Call of Duty (which I dont get the appeal) and then continuing to all the other games in the franchise.
Just my honest critique, in all the other points (especially the sound) this is a bit of a letdown. But the gameplay I disagree, which I think it might be the only reason to play these games. (but if you can, stick to the originals).
@SuperBro64 While I wish they would allow people to choose repeated tracks instead of the intermission ones (so unlike the new patch), I feel the reaction is overblown. Don't worry that you are never alone but rather disliking is always more vocal than liking something.
Its very obvious that this site has Krysta and Kit as their close friends (like really really obvious), but you guys should try to at least be more professional with the headlines and information? They are not execs in any way? a quick google search and even their profiles indicate the following: Director of Social Marketing and Original Content (Kit) and Senior Manager of Creator Relations (Krysta).
So either you guys are stretching out their job titles to some funny levels or making their opinions appear as something from the high sphere of executive direction in Nintendo (Maybe a bit of both).
I started reading this news not knowing at all who this person was and thinking this was a kind of boring decision. From the appearance, zelda just needs to be a blonde woman and thats it? acting is of course a different thing but then how much does zelda need to act in her role of a kidnapped princess (unless they go BOTW vibes).
But now I am leaving this news with a whole discussion on transgender, politics and users fighting each other which at least to me came outta nowhere! If we extrapolate this small interaction as an example of what would happen if they casted this person as Zelda, I think it would be kinda bad for marketing purposes for the movie. A tough one from the start.
Recently finished Expedition 33 and now on the last dungeon of Lunar Silver Star Story. After finishing that one (probably tomorrow), I am jumping to Sea of Stars DLC (where is the review NintendoLife???) since I have read excellent things about it.
Cmon guys lets try to be civil haha. Personally I do like the cynicism and humor that light negativity can bring (Spice is the way I choose to taste my life ). But surely there is a place for people who just want to see rainbows and colors in their hobbies. Lets not take take that out and enjoy the diversity in ways to celebrate our gaming needs.
This game was so mediocre that I am a bit sad for the Shenmue fans that had to wait so long for it. Shenmue 1 was revolutionary for its time, Shenmue 2 evolved it into a complete package. Shenmue 3..... its so lackluster, filled with poor pacing and repeatable fetch quests and cinematics. The game also failed to move the story at all... nothing important happened in the plot for this game.
Seriously if you are a bit interested in this game for some reason, please watch a video gameplay on youtube before purchasing it. Its that mid.
@Dman10 Thats a good point! Definitely the opportunity of being able to play current modern games as in handheld is something that could be considered a novelty in some ways. I am also not really interested in the Steam Deck, so this fits a particular niche that I was ignoring.
I know you guys have to do these side to side comparisons for the audience that likes the tech spec talk (and because this might be the first time Nintendo is on the same level as current modern technology lol). But on a personal level, its a tad dissappointing that this is the kind of talk and novelty that the switch 2 is bringing to the table. I always considered that Sony and Xbox were the ones into this race of powerhouse graphical comparisons while Nintendo did their own stuff on the sides with more innovation and gimmicks. I guess times change but I cant help but feel a bit meh regarding it and makes me doubt on whether I will be ever upgrading to the switch 2.
Currently playing Lunar Remastered Collection on my switch. Seeing how my backlog of games has 10+ games, I think I am fine waiting for the switch 2 until next year.
Such a mediocre game. I played this along with my cousin and we would use playing this as a punishment for whoever lost a bet . Unless the switch 2 version adds some variety in missions and fixes the dumb enemy AI, I will recommend everyone to be careful with this game. Its that mid.
@Pandaman Oh I definitely agree that political topics are extracted instead of forced into a journalist topic. But you cant expect everyone to agree on that. And that is the crux of this topic isnt it? As you said for people who wants a website that report PR releases they WILL go and find that. Its what is happening and why as this post reports, other journals that have a more personal take are getting all kind of layoffs.
I will spin your argument around since I think its the same message as this opinion article was trying to do, for anyone who doesnt want a website that takes a more neutral stance but instead encourages a more personal and bold opinion, please go and support it. They need it because the vast majority do not care for that.
@Pandaman I dont think he is saying that they should not exist but rather that inserting political views on a gaming site will be unpopular and thus it comes with consequences. They are entitled and allowed to express their opinion and relate to their political views but then you should expect sparks of controversy for sure (we all know what happens in politics). Not everyone will agree with the political take that comes from inserting a controversial topic on something that many people did not even notice before.
@russell-marlow Its a long story that combines both physical and mental health issues. I can recommend googling the following: "What's the deal with Hax? What's his story?"
@axelhander You are going to die on a hill with that hot-take. I respect the bravery and stubborness in the opinion, but you are going to have a tough time getting any kind of agreement with either classic fighting game communities (2D like streetfighter, 3D like tekken), platforming fighting game fans (like smash, aether rivals or brawlhalla) and also nintendo fans in general. Good luck finding support!
Megaman 2 is the most popular one and rightfully so the one that helped to solidify the series as we know today.
However Megaman 3 is the pinnacle of it, not only introducing my fav dog-robot (if it wasnt clear from my picture lol), but also the slide and a difficulty curve that was punishing but enjoyable! I still think MM2 is amazing but I feel the difficulty is a hit or miss in it.
@Milk_ Regarding the Trigger vs Cross comparison, it really depends. Trigger is the overall better game considering the dream team of developers and context in which it was released. Its a really solid package that pretty much does everything good.
Cross is a more ambitious and somewhat complex game that goes for more experimentation which brings some consequences to it. Maybe higher good peaks but also a lot (and I truly mean a LOT) of bad moments. So at the end the overall package looks less polished. And there is the issue of the expectations of Cross being a sequel to Trigger, but it does not capitalize on that in obvious manners, but rather you do get that slowly as you progress into it.
If you try Chrono cross be sure to keep an open mind and set expectations accordingly!
Digital Foundry technical expertise cant be denied. But at the end of the day, it is how we interpret the data that they provide. Tech talk is one thing but in these modern times, it is exaggerated a bit too much, diminishing the fact that players usually dont even see these differences unless a clear side to side comparison is shown in front of their eyes.
Now I dont think this means that they will release Wilds onto a Nintendo console but I think they will do a situation like Rise/Sunbreak as @larryisaman said. The series is just too strong in Japan and we all know which console is the current king in that country. Its simple logic.
I am happy to read that they are adding the option to make each power ranger unique in stats! There is nothing more boring in a videogame with multiple characters... that they all play exactly the same!
The original idea that "all Rangers being equally capable" is nice but it should be reflected in that they all can contribute with their different strenghts and weaknesses as a team. Not that they are literal clones of each other!
@Princess_Lilly I 100% agree. I will always appreciate that gaming options are diverse and that different games exist for different people (as always have been), but it has felt weird to me how in recent years, the challenge in a videogame has somehow evolved into a negative feature. Some videogames do require a bit of the player effort and dedication and I believe that a rich personal connection between the player and the game developer is made when these things happen.
@Princess_Lilly I love your comment haha! But in this day and age you gotta put your best flameshield before the internet comes for you that brave comment! Stay safe
@Pillowpants Don't give up. The game is kinda meant for you to lose at the start but once you get enough upgrades, you are good to go. It's quite addicting
This is a bit of a sleeper hit tbh. For anyone reading this and disregarding it as one of the many roguelikes but with a licensed IP, its more fun than that. Grab a friend and try it co-op. You wont believe how quick time flies with it.
@RetroGames thanks for saying that. I was a bit shocked reading that line lol. I know the intention of the article is to warn players and do a nice thing by comparing them both. But that sentence about 2D gaming is a bit of a bad taste.
I voted 5 as in average since I think it was a bit underwhelming and just showed us the minimum. It passed but with no real excitement for me. I will have to wait for the games to get more interested in it but as for now this just looks like an upgraded switch (with the name keeping that trend) which is a tad boring for my tastes. Still have faith that their first party games will be the deal breaker.
@Olliemar28 Thats a fine and justified sentiment but still kinda defeats the purpose of finding the actual WORST games of 2024 (as the title suggest). Maybe a separate article with the ones who had the lowest score would be fun to look at. Don't underestimate the morbid curiosity of seeing garbage.
Dont worry guys, I am sure that by now the Nlife review of the game is among the rare outliers in terms of review of it. Sometimes they do the opposite giving games a pretty good score when its somewhat average, so I guess it evens out at the end.
But yeah Romancing Saga 2 remake is a blast to play and with a 80 on metacritic critic reviews and 8.6 on user reviews, it lands on a nice spot for jRPGs.

@Princess_Lilly I love your comment haha! But in this day and age you gotta put your best flameshield before the internet comes for you that brave comment! Stay safe
Re: TMNT: Splintered Fate's Upcoming DLC Sees Casey Jones Join The Hades-Like Action
@Pillowpants Don't give up. The game is kinda meant for you to lose at the start but once you get enough upgrades, you are good to go. It's quite addicting
Re: TMNT: Splintered Fate's Upcoming DLC Sees Casey Jones Join The Hades-Like Action
This is a bit of a sleeper hit tbh. For anyone reading this and disregarding it as one of the many roguelikes but with a licensed IP, its more fun than that. Grab a friend and try it co-op. You wont believe how quick time flies with it.
Re: PSA: Don't Fall For This New 'Wukong' Game On The Switch eShop
@RetroGames thanks for saying that. I was a bit shocked reading that line lol. I know the intention of the article is to warn players and do a nice thing by comparing them both. But that sentence about 2D gaming is a bit of a bad taste.
Re: Nintendo Download: 16th January (North America)
@dartmonkey Blade chimera price is missing. Unless it's 00.00 and then I have reason to download this gem!
Re: Poll: So, What Did You Think Of The Switch 2 Reveal?
I voted 5 as in average since I think it was a bit underwhelming and just showed us the minimum. It passed but with no real excitement for me. I will have to wait for the games to get more interested in it but as for now this just looks like an upgraded switch (with the name keeping that trend) which is a tad boring for my tastes. Still have faith that their first party games will be the deal breaker.
Re: Metacritic Reveals "The Worst Video Games Of 2024"
@Olliemar28 Thats a fine and justified sentiment but still kinda defeats the purpose of finding the actual WORST games of 2024 (as the title suggest). Maybe a separate article with the ones who had the lowest score would be fun to look at. Don't underestimate the morbid curiosity of seeing garbage.
Re: Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge Of The Seven Lands New Switch Update, Here Are The Patch Notes
