@shaneoh The margin for a mini isn't great for Nintendo. And u can't buy future games for it. The money is for hyping the Nintendo name. They will make a huge margin for selling far less games on the future VC. The mini was a marketing tool for Nintendo.
Mario and two Metroids are great.... although MP4 wasn't really at E3. I'm guessing 2019. Might get Rabbids if it's really good. That's probably all I'm interested in that Nintendo showed.
@shaneoh Shortages create a more frenzied demand. They can then sell whatever they put on the shelf. They will also make more money off the eshop. They aren't losing any money with shortages. People think so linear with business. Bigger profit isn't always about selling a specific item.
I used to look forward to Nintendos conference over everybody's. But I'm not excited because they aren't making the games I really want. I can't wait for Mario, but I don't think ill get a metroid anytime soon.
I don't think anybody who has raided would want to raid with somebody who was mobile. Destiny raids are some of the best experiences you can have playing a videogame, but let's bad mouth the game because the Switch can't handle it.
I think fans who love Nintendo think Nintendo loves them. It's a business that loves your money. As others have said, they will make more money on the eshop without the negative costs.
Zero chance I'm paying full price without new tracks. I love MK8...I think it was Nintendo's only franchise that was taken to the next level on WiiU. But I'm not encouraging companies to resell the same game with little new content. There is a market for it though..and Nintendo knows it could put Mario Kart EIGHT on the box and it would be enough for some fans.
@00Wyvern
I would agree if it weren't a port of a WiiU game. You can get the same experience on a system that's years old.
If Zelda was built ground up for Switch and only available on Switch, it would be reason enough to buy.
Right now the Switch is for the dedicated Nintendo fans that have money to burn. And even then it's hard to recommend. I'm buying it day 1. But I want to see every moment of Zelda on my big TV, so it won't leave my house. Zero Dawn and some other great games are coming out around March. It becomes a competition for my time, and the rest of Switchs lineup pales. I already have Mario Kart, so it might be some time before I buy another Switch game. But I've gotten used to that with Nintendo.
Absolutely spot on. Nintendo blamed developers for not using the WiiU gamepad properly. But Nintendo failed to show how it was a must have for games. They barely added it to their own games.
Take away the games that can be played on other consoles and what is the Switch left with?
By the time a developer decides to make an original game, we are a long ways off from seeing it. Even inferior ports will take time.
Nintendo entered a very difficult market that recently kicked its ass. They needed to come out swinging. Pull out all the stops. Take some acceptable losses here and there. What have they been working on? Not WiiU or 3DS home runs. If they are the primary source for a console, they need a much bigger staff (that should have been in place years ago).
@Mogster Absolutely. Most of us love Nintendo. I wish Nintendo would make the go to console. We get upset when Nintendo misses easy wins. The more consoles they sell the more games we get. Their R&D and staff expands.
Good article. But I think you're giving the launch games a pass. Zelda is a WiiU game. If it was just on Switch, it would be a killer app. And Nintendo has to show us why we are paying for this tech. They failed to do so with the gamepad. Gimmicky games won't do it.
Yeah Nintendo needs to show why this tech is must have. Ice cubes/ marble games are cool to try once. We are paying for tech developers may find a good use for in the future. I'm disappointed with the games. You can play Zelda and Mario kart on wiiu. 1-2 is not worth buying. Bomber man looks like a 9.99 game.
Unfortunately for me, I don't care as much about portability. My Switch will be docked 99% of the time. So I'll be buying the best version of the game.
@FlameRunnerFast
If ps or Xbox did that, I wouldnt be happy. But there's zero chance of that. They are light years ahead of Nintendo in terms of online. Nintendo is cutting corners by making you use your smart phone. They skimped on specs and this is how they pass it off onto their fans. They aren't leading innovation by doing this.
If somebody doesn't upgrade to new system then we won't be playing the same game anyway.
@Syrek24 you have a point in that we shouldn't expect Nintendo to compete with the other consoles. Nintendo is what it is. For me, Nintendo will have maybe a couple games a year to play, and the rest of my time will be spent playing the other systems. The last two years of Switch might have one game that's worth buying.
So if I'm at home, I need to use my phone to chat? If so that's BS. There's zero chance of me buying a port for Switch when chat is so easy on PS4 etc. Nintendo needed to win consumers back and the game lineup and system won't do that. If you don't care about portability, you will have the same experience as WiiU.
I don't care about paying for online as long as it's a good service.
Mario Kart is the only thing I've felt they've taken to the next level in the last two years. Smash Brothers was basically the same (great) game as before with HD graphics. Star Fox looks to be the same engine. I don't see innovation that sets Nintendo apart from everybody.
Nintendo can improve the game a lot before release, so I'm holding judgment. The reaction is concerning though. This is the major first party release for the holidays, and it must be outstanding. It can't be a game that has a review average of 7 or 8. And yes.....people have a right to be critical of Nintendo's lineup. There has been one major release so far this year, and it's a good, not great, game. There will be plenty of games that receive a 9+ review average on the other systems by years end. WiiU might have one. If this is acceptable for you, congrats and continue to drink the kool aid.
Absolutely Ninstarkof. I buy all the systems. But I would favor Nintendo over the others if their version was at least equal. Also, it can't be released months after the other versions.
WiiU 3rd party launch titles were old news by the time they were released. Assassin's Creed was released close to the other versions, but it was an inferior version (I bought it anyway...). ZombieU got a really bad review the day before launch. Need for Speed was the best version...but everybody who wanted it already played it on other systems. I had already played Batman, Ninja gaiden, Call of Duty etc etc.
I prefer to have the 3rd party games on other platforms because they are better on those platforms. It's extremely rare a game was better on a Nintendo console.....even looking back at Gamecube. Nintendo has made it difficult on 3rd parties in the past....with their architecture or publishing fees. Nobody wanted to work with cartridges for N64.....Nintendo was stubborn and should have used discs. Today....horse power matters. Consumers are going to buy the best version of the game.
Ryno......I don't think that's true. If Nintendo had the most powerful console, you can bet 3rd party games would sell. WiiU had a bunch of inferior ports. I'm not buying those ports just because I like Nintendo. By the time Bayonetta was released, gamers saw the WiiU was dead in the water and no future for the WiiU besides a few more first party titles on the way. Nintendo must bring the power or become a 3rd party.
Power is critical for home consoles. It absolutely needs to run games like Witcher 3 and Arkham night. Why should Nintendo fans be left out? Because Nintendo is cutting corners? And it can't be weaker ports like the WiiU had. Why would I pay the same money for an inferior version? Like somebody said before, nobody would buy a phone with old technology for around the same price as the phone with the newest technology. It's July and WiiU has only released Splatoon. Look at the other consoles and compare. It's embarrassing.
Whether it's true or not, it's worth talking about. As WinterWarm said....it has been true the last two systems. Honestly, I'm glad to see some critical opinions of Nintendo. It's OK to love them and be critical of what they're doing.
If true, I wish Nintendo would go third party. Many make excuses and list the exclusives the WiiU has. But you can't play Sony and Microsoft games on Nintendo's console, and you can't play most 3rd party games. WiiU had some very good games. But has there been a comparable experience that matches Dragon Age or Witcher 3 on the WiiU? You can't even play a Star Wars or Batman game on WiiU. Nintendo makes great games, but they can't support a console by themselves. How many triple AAA games have the released lately? It's July and Splatoon is the only major release this year. It's a solid game but it pales to what has been released on the other systems this year. Nintendo releases so few games that they must score a "9" or so. You can't release 7 and 8s. They complain that companies aren't utilizing the touch screen, yet they haven't been able to show us why it's a must have in their own games. Nintendo can do whatever it wants, and there are fans that will accept whatever they do. But it has gotten old for me. I used to buy almost every Nintendo release, but Star Fox might be the only game on the release schedule I buy from them this year. Nintendo's consoles have been a day 1 purchase for me, but if this rumor is true, NX won't be. I can wait until Nintendo has a decent library of 1st party games.

I call BS. Nintendo is king of shortages. They do it on purpose.

Of course Switch isn't getting it. It's not a port.

I agree. This is a mess Nintendo created.
Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild Has Almost One-To-One Attach Rate According To GameStop
The only reason to buy Switch is for Zelda. I guess the others who didn't are just making sure they have a Switch when another great game comes out.

Makes zero sense, but that's Nintendo sometimes.
Re: Video: Digital Foundry Highlights the Nintendo Switch Boost in FAST RMX
WiiU was outdated the day it was released. Not a bar the Switch should try and match.
