Of course it’s better to wait than release a crappy game. But Nintendo should have had Retro working on it from Day 1. For me, it’s a huge blow. Metroid and Luigi are the only two games In the release schedule I was looking forward to. Last game I bought was Odyssey.
The market will decide. If children want this, then it continue. Im not praising Nintendo though. Buying a Switch and then some of these kits is expensive for many. They are charging a premium for very basic games and a bunch of cardboard.
@clvr absolutely. Design your own bounty hunter. Pick up bounties and hunting targets down. Working together in strikes and raids with Ridley etc as bosses. I realize Nintendo’s innovation has been poor lately and many fans just want ports, but it’s not that big of a stretch.
It can be so much more than Destiny. Nintendo should lead the way in creating fun online experiences.
@westman98 It underperformed in Activisions eyes, yes. Disastrous flop? Selling millions of copies at launch isn’t a disaster. It outperformed Fortnite that month and every other title. Activision wants COD sales and that’s not going to happen. Metroid Prime could be adapted into a Destiny model. Not sure if you’ve played Destiny, but it’s not a straight forward shooter.
@FarkyValentine flop in terms of? It was #2 behind call of duty for 2017. Forsaken was #1 in September this year, beating Spider-Man. Destiny faced backlash due to the end game and the Osiris dlc. Financially, Activision wanted them to push micro transactions and wanted COD type sales. But compared to other games, Destiny 2 was huge.
@Agramonte
I wish the annual pass was over lol. While Forsaken was great, the Black Armory is just grinding old content over and over. And over and over. The pass was cheap, but so is the “content”.
It is too bad Nintendo hasn’t bothered to do anything like a raid from Destiny. Metroid would work amazingly in a Destiny type game.
@NinjaToitles at $30 Nintendo would still make a huge profit. They can get away with it because there’s no competition. Switch only owners aren’t deciding between this and red dead and Spider-Man etc. Sony and Microsoft would gouge their fans too if they could, but there’s just too much competition.
@rdrunner1178 There’s no justifying the price of this game except Nintendo is gouging their fans. That’s their right and most companies will do the same. Let’s just not pretend Nintendo sees their fans as anything but dollar signs.
I’d rather play Nintendo games on the best console available. Since portability isn’t important to me, the Switch isn’t it. I know many of you prefer VHS tapes over 4K discs, but I don’t.
I’m not into phone games either, but the money to be made is ridiculous.
Luigi’s Mansion and Metroid for me. If Metroid doesn’t make it, then it’s just ok Year. Multi platform games will depend on which version is the best, and portability doesn’t factor in for me.
@carlos82 That’s why it was difficult for me to get excited about Smash. It’s more of the same with not that many new sights to see. Nintendo’s innovation was flat this year. Single player games? I’m hoping you owned another system in 2018. Switch is new so it can’t compete with PS4 development cycle. Nintendo can make me turn off Red Dead or Spider-Man or God of War etc. But Nintendo titles in 2018 aren’t on the same level.
@MoonKnight7
It also denotes quality and the highest production costs. None of those titles required the production costs of a AAA game.
My point was Nintendo didn’t deliver the highest level of gaming for most of their titles. Sure, some would say Pokémon is the peak of gaming. But in general, most would disagree. I said AAA experience... like wow this is a great game. Maybe not the best term.
@Quarth
Pokémon might sell millions but it’s not a AAA gaming experience. Reviews of those games average 7s. They’re not in the same category as God or War, Spider-Man, Red Dead 2 etc (yes I realize “Nintendo only” fans think these games are boring and awful). Moss is better than anything Nintendo did this year. Nintendo should pave the way for family online gaming. Innovation is lacking at the big N.
@TheFanatic
It’s not a diss. It’s called the ultimate version. There’s more characters, stages and modes. It’s not the next step for the series... just more of the same. It’s a AAA title... but it’s also the only AAA title Nintendo released this year.
Last day of 2018 and haven’t bought one Switch game this year. I have a years worth of systems updates since I haven’t turned it on. Still might get Smash tho.
I started Moss yesterday and throught ... this is the experience Nintendo should be leading. Instead we get a lot of ports. Smash ultimate is just shinier version of the last game.
Looking forward to Luigi mansion 3 and Metroid in 2019.
@electrolite77 which if you read my post, I said. I said they are a business like everybody else. They aren’t some special company that cares about their fans. They care about money. As does Sony, Microsoft. They aren’t charging extra for these ports because of expensive development costs. They are doing it because they can get their fans to pay whatever. It’s like at the movie theater.... popcorn costs movie goer $10 a bucket or more and costs the theater pennies. If the movie theater had to sell it at the store with competition, they would have to bring the price way down. Gouge the consumer any way you can.
@earthinheritor But it’s how Nintendo gouges their fans. And it works for them. Those remastered games on other systems have to compete with a lot of new AAA games. Nintendo is squeezing every penny they can out of their fans... like most businesses. Let’s just not pretend Nintendo cares about anything else.
I never understand fan boys of any system because these companies only care about your wallet. Nintendo is a business and if they can overcharge you, they will. If somebody only owns a Switch, they don’t get to decide between a Nintendo port and Red Dead 2 (even if they did it would be a inferior version of RD2). Nintendo has a kiddie image, but they see their fans no differently than the other companies. Fans love Nintendo. Nintendo loves your money.
I have the NES and SNES classics but haven’t opened them. Even if the PS classic wasn’t botched, I wouldn’t get it. I had a blast with the PS at the time, but the 3D graphics didn’t age well. I would have trouble playing N64 classic too.
It’s been over a year since I’ve turned on my Switch. There are too many new games to play on other systems for me to play ports on Switch. My Switch is for AAA Nintendo titles, and it’s been over a year since we’ve seen one. Unfortunately I’m not a big Smash fan, and the new game is pretty much the same game we’ve been playing for years. Luigi’s Mansion 3 and Metroid will probably be the reason I dust off the Switch.
I realized when I bought the Switch that there would be a couple games I year that I’d want. Unfortunately, there’s nothing this year I want. I was going to buy Smash, but I won’t play it much. I haven’t turned on my Switch in 2018. It’s hard to stop playing great games on other systems for decent games on Switch (and I’m not wasting time with ports). I think Luigi’s Mansion 3 will be my next game.
Red Dead is a great immersive game. If you can pry yourself away from the completely original, ground breaking games that are designed for only the most selective gamers such as Mario party, Mario Tennis and countless old ports, you should pick it up.
I don’t know how people have time to play all these ports of games they’ve already played. Sure, there’s some exceptions of games that are special to you. But Nintendo Port seems to be a better name for the Switch. It’s portable ports... and In the case of Generations, it’s a portable port of a portable game.
I’m excited about one announced game. Metroid. I haven’t bought a game for Switch since Mario. I haven’t played my Switch in 2018. I’ll probably get Smash, but I won’t play it much. I keep coming here hoping to see a new announcement.
Never played the original but may eventually pick this up. But isn’t this port the same price as the original ? Definitely not paying the same price for a port just on principle.
It certainly doesn’t look to me that it takes the series to the next level. Maybe this is what the die hard fans want in a new game, and that’s who you should make happy. But I got tired quick of the WiiU game. It felt like an HD version of what came before. I will probably buy it, but I’ll play it a couple weeks and move on.
@johnvboy Thats true. The Switch target audience isn’t hardcore gamers who watch E3. I have a Switch for the one or two major titles as year (although this year I will struggle to find two I want).
Where’s the innovation Nintendo? Sequels are great but most of these don’t move the needle. Smash will be very similar to the other games before it. Why can’t Nintendo lead the way on how online games should be played ? I haven’t bought a Switch game since Odyssey. I might pick up Smash but I’ve grown tired of the series. Metroid would have made up for a bad showing, but as is, they should have just skipped E3.
It's ok in multiplayer but it really doesn't help the person using it. In single player, it sucks the fun out of the game sometimes. I don't think many play games to experience unfair things. That's a really dumb analogy.
