For me, first party Nintendo had been really disappointing. Where is Nintendo’s next great single player adventure ? Luigi 3 was good but it wasn’t up to Nintendo’s greatness (probably because it was farmed out). Animal Crossing is fun for a couple of months for me, but there’s not any real “gameplay” or anything really new. Neither sequel took it to the next level in terms of design. Nintendo doesn’t have to try hard. People will pay full price for a 6 year old port. Nintendo is a company that can make “10”s like nobody else. But there hasn’t been much reason for me to turn on my switch over other systems lately.
Definitely aimed at a younger crowd who has more time on their hands. I’d love to put in a new Mario kart my Switch, but I don’t want to waste time setting up tracks. This seems to be one of those things that’s fun for a very limited time.
I don’t think gamers are winning. Sequels are copy and paste. Even Nintendo has did very little for smash brothers, animal crossing, Luigi’s mansion etc. Ports are full price taking advantage of fans. DLCs are rarely worth the money. Micro transactions and loot boxes.
Nintendo loves to create shortages. They also don’t lower prices to create the image that their games are too good to be discounted. They also way overcharge for ports. I don’t have a problem with a limited window as long as they meet demand. I don’t like that you can’t buy the 2D version.
Full price is ridiculous. Funny how people Think Nintendo is different from Sony or Microsoft. Make no mistake. Nintendo will take that last dollar out of your dead hand (just like the other companies).
I like the game but it it’s not much of an upgrade from New Leaf. It really needs these additions, and some quality of life updates. You get your $60 worth of play time for sure, but there isn’t $60 worth of content. New Leaf costs almost half that and there was more content.
Realistic?? How many shovels do you break in real life?? It’s just not fun gameplay to have your tools break so often. Crafting new tools and bait only adds eye rolling to the game. The dialogue is also annoying. Same dialogue you have to hit A 5x just to get through anything. Plus the dialogue doesn’t change. This is not a technical marvel in gaming, so it’s just laziness to not have different dialogue. Animal Crossing can be a fun diversion. But it’s far from perfect. It’s an updated version of New Leaf and more of a slight step sideways.... not forward.
A lot of these things should have been in the game day 1. That’s why it’s not a 10. I’ve only played New Leaf but it seems the dialogue is the same or similar. It’s ridiculous to listen to Blathers say the same thing over and over. You have to go in and out of dialogue boxes just to get something done.
Crafting bait is ridiculous.
User interface is just way out of date. The idea is to have a relaxing game. But it’s not relaxing when you are annoyed as hell.
I’m not sure why Nintendo thinks breaking tools is fun. I’ve had one shovel my whole adult life. It’s ok if things break in the early parts of the game. But after that, it’s just annoying and not fun.
Giving the game is 0 is ridiculous. People do this for movies too.
I do understand the anger at locking down the system to one island. Imagine all games having only one save file. It is blood sucking greedy to the extreme. This game will sell many millions, but Nintendo wants your last dollar if it can get it (as do all the big companies). Not having cloud saves is also 100% a financial decision for Nintendo. With fan boys, it’s a one way love affair with these companies.
There’s no world where Luigi is best game of the year. It’s a good game but it’s not great. The controls are awkward at times. It’s very straight forward and the mechanics don’t change much from start to finish. You face the same ghosts over and over. Some puzzles are pretty good, but most are the same. Nintendo didn’t make the game and it shows.
@Kienda the critics gave mostly positive reviews. This site picked the bad ones and made it appear that it was a disaster. With 113 reviews in, 63% gave positive reviews.
While it’s a solid game, it becomes repetitive. The gameplay doesn’t progress as you go. You know what to do with a ball hanging from a rope on level 1 or 13. The big square ghost is the same on early levels as he is on later levels. I’d be up for more levels if Luigi’s abilities expanded. But game wasn’t made by Nintendo and it shows.
I think micro transaction and loot boxes are garbage. But people have to take responsibility. The public buys into these business practices. People pay full price for ports. If you stop, the industry will adjust.
Switch is a hand held, so it’s a different market. It will become more difficult to port games to Switch. But Nintendo can continue to charge full price for older ports and get much higher profit than new AAA games on other systems.
It’s a hand held, and in that arena it is king with no competition in the near future. It has always been outdated if you want to compare it to other consoles.
Incredible game. Two changes would have made it perfect for me. The weapons break way too quickly. The main dungeons were all disappointing and did not meet the legacy of the series. But running through the mountains and discovering new things was one of my top game experiences.
Love the Metroid series. Nintendo has focused on series that I don’t card about (fire emblem Pokémon and ports) that the masses love. But it’s been so long since a good Metroid that I don’t care until the next one has gone gold.
I’d love an Icarus game. But I’ve played Uprising. There are so many new gaming experience that most people have to make decisions where to spend their time. But Nintendo can do a port with very small development cost and charge full price. And the market says yes please and add ridiculous micro transactions and we will buy that too.
@Gerald yeah they signed off on that script. People shouldn’t be attacking him personally or threatening him though.
He made a bad movie in my opinion. From the boring slow speed space scene to the pointless boring casino scene, it made me not care what happens to any of these characters. And he completely wasted Luke. They wanted to teach us that our heroes aren’t perfect (like it’s an original idea).
@sixrings and my statement was xbox one was collecting dust. I prefer to play on ps4 and not double dip on Xbox x. If X series X plays games better than PS5, then I’ll play series X. I have no loyalty to any Company. Xbox 360 was my go to last generation.
@sixrings I didn’t buy the X. With wasting money on Xbox one and poor first party titles, the difference between ps4 pro and x isn’t that big of a deal.
Well, Nintendo is just as guilty. And they have been selling full priced ports. Luigi 3 is very good. But it’s not much different. Splatoon 2 was more of a part 1.5 than part 2.
I’ve had a lot of fun with VR. It is just another experience to add to gaming. It’s not the main activity people will do the most. But people buy all these ridiculous accessories that have no future and knock VR. Nintendo is a generation behind so I don’t see them providing a good VR experience for awhile. Power is critical for VR.
If I put my trash on the lawn and somebody leaves me a $5, why would I stop. And you can’t blame me.
People need to stop buying this and the market will change.
@Zimon It is the Nintendo you love. They are a business. They will take your last dollar. They over charge for ports and people line up. They sell less powerful systems that cost as much as the others and put the profits in their pockets.
Nintendo is just taking advantage of its fans just like every other company. Let’s not pretend Nintendo cares about its fans anymore than other companies. You are a dollars sign to them and they will take your last dollar. The problem is people will pay. If the market would reject this garbage, the companies would adjust. But then you have to rely on a smart public.
@suikoden yeah as much as people complain about micro transactions and over priced subscriptions, they line up like a cow going to McDs. This game is not Not how I personally want to play Mario Kart. its been over 5 years since a new Mario Kart and that’s ridiculous.
I wish I hadn’t played the color version two years ago. Maybe some day I’ll want to replay it, but it’s the same game and I’d rather play a new game instead.
@Joe-b yeah I’d argue the cost of joy cons don’t justify their use in games. All this tech inside and they are mostly used as basic controllers. This device won’t be supported enough either.
If you don’t like micro transactions, don’t give in and buy them. If people are willing to throw their money, companies will gladly take it. If people pay full price for a port, Nintendo will gladly make huge profits.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Super Mario 3D All-Stars
@rdrunner1178 that’s great but don’t charge premium price for zero effort.
Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Super Mario 3D All-Stars
Nintendo was lazy. People in their basements have put more effort into mods. Nintendo is getting $59 profit on each sale.
Re: Review: Super Mario 3D All-Stars - Three Of Mario's Greatest Adventures Come To Switch
Nintendo doesn’t need to put in any effort. Nintendo fans will pay whatever to replay the same game. Their profit margin must be through the roof.
Re: Video: New Super Mario 3D All-Stars Trailer Shows Off Fresh Footage And Features
People in their mom’s basements have put more effort into Mario remasters than Nintendo. For the price, they could have polished these up more.

Re: Poll: Does Resident Evil 4 Really Need The REmake Treatment?
@DarkLloyd I was referring to Nintendo releasing ports with little effort and charging full price. Remaking a game ground up warrants full price.
Re: Poll: Does Resident Evil 4 Really Need The REmake Treatment?
I like the extra effort put into these games. They aren’t charging full price for direct ports.

They need to revise their article. It’s irresponsible. Again, I’m not seeing the film. But reaction is pretty positive.

While not something I’d see, it’s 70% positive on rotten tomatoes. Not exactly the disaster this article implies.

Re: Feature: Our Most Anticipated Nintendo Switch Games Of 2020
Bayonetta 3
Metroid Prime 4
Breath of the Wild 2.
Nothing really else on the list for me. Hoping for some surprises because I Doubt we will see Metroid or zelda.
