Update Wed [15th Dec, 2021 01:00 GMT]: The latest DLC character Rita Repulsa has now officially joined the battle in Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid.
Rita Repulsa enters the Morphin Grid ~𝗧𝗢𝗗𝗔𝗬~! Are you ready to face off with the most powerful space witch and her Putties? Be sure to grab the Season 4 Pass to play as or against Rita!
Original story [Sun 12th Dec, 2021 08:00 GMT]: One fighting game you might want to check out if you haven't already is Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid.

Next week is a great time to do so - with the arrival of the "iconic and maniacal" Rita Repulsa, who is joining the game's already extensive roster on 14th December. She'll even be voiced by the fan favourite "Barbara Goodson".
This new DLC fighter can be purchased for $5.99 or can be acquired within the Season 4 Pass for $14.99 or your regional equivalent. Here's her backstory and fighting style:
The most fearsome space witch in the galaxy has set her sights on revenge after 10,000 years trapped in a space dumpster.
From her ominous Moon Base, Rita plots her conquest of Earth, which has resisted her attacks for millennia. Rita’s fighting style emphasizes both mastery over her Putty Patroller army and a dizzying array of different magical spells guaranteed to keep her opponents off-balance. Pinwheel Chaos, a rolling ball of devastating energy, starts off at a distance then slowly moves closer to Rita, instantly putting opponents at a disadvantage by drawing them closer to her.
Thanks to her magical mastery of her pile of Putty Patrollers, almost nowhere in a battle is safe for her opponents. While her Patrollers mindlessly pursue, punch, and subdue opponents, Rita covers them from a distance with myriad and devastating magical spells. Royal Candle bisects the screen with a fiery and explosive attack, making any opponent in mid-range a target. Anyone foolish enough to get within close range of Rita will then have to contend with her magic-enhanced kicks and staff strikes, coupled with her mastery of aerial maneuverability thanks to her Queen’s Ambit spell.
Rita Repulsa joins Poisandra and Adam Park in Season 4 of Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid. Here's a look at these other characters, if you missed them previously:
This title is currently on sale in the US for $12.99 (instead of the usual price of $19.99) and in the UK you can pick it up for £11.69 instead of £17.99.

Rita is a pure nostalgia link to my little boy heart. Just have no interest in them morphin folks anymore.
Her gameplay looks really cool, but her voice is really annoying imo
Is this the game where they put Ryu in?
@UglyCasanova pure nostalgia, for me too, although I was the dad who was watching with my son (still a child in my head though). Rita was my fav baddie. The power rangers toys that made us episode on netflix was a super cool look into how this all came to uk/us
Watch it lady, you could poke an eye out with those.
..for real though, wasn't aware of this game. I watched the show some back when I was a kid but these days I don't have much interest in it anymore. Still a little bit of nostalgia for me though.
Didn’t even know about season 4, but genuinely surprised and happy. They’ve now made more content than I expected from this game so I’m pleased.
I was big into Wild Force and Ninja Storm when they were out (and to a lesser extent, Time Force, In Space, and Lost Galaxy). But by the time Dino Thunder came out, I kind of grew out of the series.
Little fun fact, though: Jason Faunt, the Red Ranger in Time Force, is from my hometown! He even went to my high school!
She has the voice of an old lady but the face of an angel...... as cool as this is, its not the Rita I grew up with. Good try. But not worth a buy..
A great fighting game, possibly the best on the Switch
I never found her repulsive, tbh. Just her voice.
I remember the voice, but she didn't look like that O_O!!
Probably my fave ever game I will never play.
@Blackrosewaifu9000 I do! It's a great fighter and the developers have put loads of work into developing it and improving it since it launched. It's a far better game than when it launched. People still play it online, but it probably does spike around the time when they release new DLC and then peter out a bit.
@Blackrosewaifu9000 There's a pretty good sized community, you may need to join a Discord or post on some forums if you're struggling to find matches online though.
Never thought that this character would be so iconic to the IP 25 or so years later….. speaks leagues how that first season would be so important to my generation…. Everybody would watch this show after DINOSAURS… another great mature (still entertaining for kids) show
@Blackrosewaifu9000 I'd heavily recommend looking out for a deal, the game is on sale pretty regularly. If you can, get the Super Edition, it has everything but Season 4's DLC.
This game needs more actual Power Rangers.
Even as a kid I always felt like, if you can get past the annoying voice, Rita Repulsa was kind of hot for a lady who's thousands of years old.
@KnightsTemplar It turns out Rita's voice actor for the game is different from Rita's voice actor in the series.

The base game as well as the Super Edition or whatever are on sale on the eShop for the next several days.
her look is wrong, but i guess thats expected. she should look more like in her 50s right? middle aged people, especially women, are completely underrepresented in games.
her voice is perfect! the "after 10,000 years..." bit got my nostalgia flowing!
it seems like the characters chatter a bit too much during play, but i guess i don't care since I'll likely never play this game. why am i posting here?
@farrgazer From what I have read, this is the original voice actor. It gets complicated, because, although Rita wasn't a playable character until now, the character was in the story mode and was voiced by a different actress. The actress for her DLC character is the original though as they managed to get her to reprise her role (unless what I read is rubbish, but it definitely sounds like the original and it's definitely a different actress from the one who voices Rita in the story mode).
@Blackrosewaifu9000 I remember reading about this game and most people were saying the same thing: "good game but thin roster." Looks like continuing developer support has plugged the hole in the only critsism.
It's always strange when having discussions on Power Rangers with other older commenters. I mean, I've never stopped watching the series. I may have partially watched or outright skipped certain seasons. But I've manage to at least keep up with what's going on in the series. So what I end up noticing is that slot of the commentary on Power Rangers tends to be from those who may have only watched Might Morphin or at least up until In Space and nothing after or those who just (obviously understandably) outgrew the show. Some of the comments are accurate (on it's campiness and it's tendency to hire really green actors and actresses) or some not so (that anything after Might Morphin isn't worth watching). The franchise (at least the show) is geared towards kids, no doubt. But I can say at least there's has been and still is an honest attempt to celebrate older fans as well. It's a lot more than some other franchises do
Also, I would recommend, for those who haven't watched since the early years, to check out some of the much revered later seasons. There really are genuine attempts to go beyond the cheesiness that was
Lastly, for anyone looking for a PR related material that keeps the spirit of the franchise, but is much more indepth than and a bit more mature than the show, I can't recommend the Boom Comics series' enough. They have been a treat to read and IMO, a great way to reimagine a series without losing what makes it charming and paying off some stories and loose ends for long time fans
@-wc- In the second half of S2, Rita was deaged and played by a younger actress in the original American footage.
@KnightsTemplar I think her voice in the story mode was different from her voice as a fighter. At least that's what I'm gathering.
@eltomo This version of Rita seems to be modeled after how she's drawn in the comics.
That voice brings back so many memories! 😂❤️
@ThatBlokeTor honestly I think having the villains/kaijin in there is a neat move (plus theyre just under a third of the roster) but stuff like the street fighter crossover and (personally here) the nobodies from the comics i just cannot care about
@RubyDevilNine you'd be surprised how many franchises from the 80's/90's are just repurposed and chopped up stuff from japan, between PR, voltron, and literally anything about robotech. it's kind of impressive really how long these things can run on borrowed time
I prefer her Super Sentai counterpart, Witch Bandora.
@iLikeUrAttitude The annoying voice is totally part of her character. Having Zed, Rita, and evil Tommy really makes this game feel whole. One more monster should help to round it out. Maybe a mini version of Cyclopsis or the Sphinx!
@thinkhector I feel it needs one more monster since there are a majority of rangers. Cyclopsis, Sphinx, or Divatox! Maybe Rito or Thrax! There is even Ivan Ooze!
Love the original MMPR, might have to check this out!
@AstroTheGamosian I loved Ninja Storm as a kid, remember having a crush on the Blue Ranger as well. I think that was the last one i watched as i "outgrew" the series.
Oh cool it’s Bandora! Game isn’t bad if you turn off the voices. I just pretend it’s a real Super Sentai game…with Ryu and Chun-Li.
Rita’s voice is fine. Fits the 90s cheesy villainous vibe
@WallyWest Same here, on all your points. It honestly surprised me that the Blue Ranger was a girl, when every Blue Ranger before her was a guy. It was usually the Yellow and Pink/White Rangers who were the girls on the team. But they also made the Yellow Ranger a guy in Ninja Storm, as well.
Still disappointed that they never crossed over with Wild Force, though; that one was my favorite. Even though the Wild Force Rangers had to relinquish their powers at the end of their show, they could have written it so that they temporarily regained their powers to help the Ninja Storm Rangers fight a grave threat. But they were never even mentioned, much less made a cameo appearance.
@-wc- It depends on how you define "wrong."

From what I'm understanding, the original footage they used, as well as the extra footage commissioned to Japan featured the original actor Machiko Soga, but when Saban moved onto the subsequent seasons while keeping the same villains, they wrote in a rejuvenation sequence to segue from Soga to Carla Perez.
The constant shouts of pin wheel chaos would wreck my head
@farrgazer interesting! i guess i only really watched the first season, looking back on it.
@KnightsTemplar to be fair, the lady who originally played Rita passed away, back in 2006. That said, I'm not sure if she provided the voiceover.
Edit: My bad, the VA actress is alive and well, according to wikipedia. Barbara Goodson.
@CopyX1982 You are thinking about Machiko Soga who passed in 2006. She was the original Bandora and Saint Magiel (plus a bunch of other roles…she had been a part of Super Sentai since the late 70s). She was a legend.
Been rewatching the original series on Netflix along with Giant Bomb. Still as good as it was 28 years ago
@UglyCasanova Same, I think I stay faithful to the series until the end of Dino Thunder. After that I didn't cared anymore, but I do enjoy the Sentai series which is way better by the way imo
