Update: It seems that the games below which were previously listed for $26.99 have had their price increased to $39.99 (or $39.00 in the case of Link's Awakening). Additionally, several are no longer available.
Still not a bad deal, but not quite in the I-think-I'll-get-the-lot range.
Original story (Mon 22nd Nov, 2021 17:00 GMT): As we've all known for years, Black Friday isn't a single day — it's a total nightmare month-long season of pre-Holiday bargain hunting that preys on our penchants for a good deal.
We're doing our best to highlight the best Nintendo-related Black Friday deals so you don't have to trawl the retailer's websites, and one of the very finest deals we've seen so far (for US readers, at least) comes from GameStop.
The retailer is offering a whole bunch of first-party Nintendo physical releases with a whopping 60% discount — including titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, Kirby Star Allies, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe — for just $26.99 (plus tax, of course).
The only caveat here is that free shipping starts on orders of $35 or more, so you'll have to top up your cart to avoid delivery charges. Dang, you'll just have to buy two games then. Oh-no-what-can-you-do.
You can see the full list of currently available titles at that great price below — and there are other offers on the site, of course.
Note: Once on GameStop's site, be sure to click the 'New' tab to get the physical option before adding to cart — the initial page you land on may be for the 'Pre-Owned' or 'Digital' options (thanks, WoomyNNYes).
Please note that some external links on this page are affiliate links, which means if you click them and make a purchase we may receive a small percentage of the sale. Please read our FTC Disclosure for more information.
So there you are — a friendly heads up about some exceptional games at an exceptional price. Let us know below if you end up snapping up any of these absolute bangers.
We'll be keeping an eye out for more deals over the coming week-or-so, so keep an eye on our main Black Friday deals guide for all the latest offers.

Well, that's a first for Switch first party games.
I'd recommend them all for this bargain, but especially Zelda, Paper Mario, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem and Astral Chain. I would have put Splatoon 2 on that list too, but since 3 is around the corner, a bit less.
Got the kids Kirby and also Mario Kart Home Circuit for $60
FINALLY a discount on Astral Chain
Those are actually some amazing deals, considering these titles usually never get discounted let alone for that much.
And for new copies at that, not just pre-owned (which GameStop makes the most money from).
Just over a 100 for Xenoblade, BotW, Astral Chain, and Fire Emblem? That's so much Nintendo game for 'little' money, that I'm almost surprised Nintendo isn't taking legal action.
I finally jumped on Astral Chain at this price. Unfortunately I thought the sale was digital only. It wasn't until after I redeemed the code that I realized I could have gotten a physical copy for the same price. Oh well.
heads up : the Astral Chain price is only for the digital version for some reason! so buyer beware.
I ordered Crash 4 and Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania for $20 each from GameStop yesterday.
This tempts me to pick up more games, but I already have BOTW and NSMBU. The others I am not sure I would enjoy. But it is such a good deal, so maybe worth a shot?
Regarding Zelda: BOTW and Splatoon 2, could NintendoLife confirm whether or not the new Japanese cartridges have the DLC stored inside? Original article: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2021/09/zelda_breath_of_the_wild_and_splatoon_2_will_get_new_physical_releases_with_dlc_included_in_japan
I would be so grateful if you did
Still waiting for the NA eshop sale...
Online only? Or can I get it in store?
@CharlieGirl @rockodoodle these are for physical or digital on line or in store. There’s some other good deals too if you’re looking for third party games.
Also I heard from an employee more games will be discounted on Friday.
I purchased Xenoblade and Monkey Ball… I am tempted to pick up SMT 5 also (even though it’s not part of the sale) I’m hoping people here can offer some opinion on which is better Xenoblade or SMT 5. Thanks
@Thrallherd when looking at the box art I’d say probably not.
I also think those bundles are being sold in Japan only?
I just bought BOTW 2 weeks ago for $40. I guess I should have waited a bit longer, but I don't mind. $20 off is still good
Wow, hopefully they do great and Nintendo takes note
@mattesdude They will have a buy 2 get 1 on all used Switch games, fyi!
@Friendly yes, they are Japan only (at least for now). But I'm still interested!
@TDRsuperstar2 For me, Xenoblade 2 is better than Xenoblade 1 and SMT V but it's never on sale. Sometimes you can't even find it.
It's a shame Tropical Freeze isn't on this list. I'd jump on this deal in a heartbeat if it was.
Can anyone tell me how difficult Astral Chain is? My 10 year is looking for a new game to play and likes anime. I thought it looked cool as hell and she did pretty damn good for herself playing xenoblade chronicles. I just don't want to get her something that too difficult.
Is this online only or also in-store?
PSA: Gametop game pages always give you PREOWNED price by default. Be sure to select NEW before adding to cart.
@rockodoodle You may want to call Gamestop to find out if Black Friday prices can be gotten at the store. If you go to gamestop, I discovered last month that you have to ask for the sale price on their website. If you don't ask, they will ring you up at full retail.
@CharlieGirl A used copy is currently $24.99. It's a roll of the dice if you get a case and cover/insert.
I've added 'Digital Code' to the Astral Chain entry seeing as physical is no longer available.
@WoomyNNYes I've also added that detail to the article — cheers.
Get them all. All great for that price.
Don't live in the us 👎🏻 shame would've picked up new super Mario Bros with it being reasonably priced for once
I grabbed Zelda because I don't like the fact that you can't put the Wii U in sleep mode haha. I never did beat this one. Hope it's good. I also might grab splatoon, but I don't like shooters and I believe third one is coming out soon
@lnrts99 I own Xenoblade 2 but I found it kind of difficult to get into. Maybe I’ll revisit it based on your recommendation
@TDRsuperstar2 Cool. The Switch got me back into gaming and XC2 got me back into JRPGs. I'll admit the battle system does take some getting used to but once it clicked for me I found that it is the most engaging battle system in recent memory. Everyone is different but I prefer it over XC1 battle system.
If I buy Astral Chain can I redeem it on the UK eShop?
Great savings on some amazing games. I snagged Kirby myself.
@Thrallherd
They do have the DLC on the cart.
Splatoon 2 is the Japanese version, which only supports Japanese though (no other languages).
@Skunkfish
It'd have to be the US eShop. But you can change your account country on the accounts site, or make a US account.
@sketchturner
Astral Chain Physical New ran out yesterday a few hours after deal went life so you didn't miss it if you just got the code a few hours ago. It was your only option.
@bluesun thanks for the information. How could you make sure?
If you hadn't bought them yet, this is the best time to do so as it's not everyday that Nintendo does a sale for these games at these price.
I think I will finally get Astral Chain.
It's a 55% discount, not 60%. A 60% discount would've been $24 each. Still, a great offer, too bad I already own Astral Chain. Great game. @thedudeabides05 Regarding its difficulty, I think it can be quite challenging for a 10 year old, even at its lowest difficulty. It was very rewarding, but it could be frustrating for a kid.
Thought the sale was so darn good, I picked up Breath of the Wild...for the second time. I sold it about two years ago after 250 hours. Definitely regretted it not long after. So this was a no brainer
In Canada GameStop is significantly less generous in its sales
@WoomyNNYes I stopped by and they are indeed marked down at the store as well. Probably picked up Xenoblade and NSMBU. I have both on other systems, but at this price, hard to pass up. I didn’t get the Luigi levels on the WiiU, so it’s worth it.
might have to pick up Fire Emblem Three Houses since its on sale now
Ughh I missed out on Astral Chain physical, which is the one I wanted. However, getting NSMBUD, Paper Mario, and Splatoon 2 for close(ish) to the price of one game ain't bad, so I can't complain too loudly! here's hoping I'll be able to catch another sale for AC somewhere this week.
This is seriously one of the most solid sale I have ever seen for first party Nintendo games, so thanks for the heads up, Nintendo Life!
EDIT: I took the advice of some of you in the comments and tried my luck in store and was indeed able to get Astral Chain for the Black Friday price! You just gotta ring it up and have them scan it — don’t trust the box sticker. In unfortunate news though, thanks to my panicked state of purchasing online afraid of games running out before I checked in-store, I accidentally bought two of my games pre-owned ughhhhh. We’ll have to see if they both come in the cases… but still a great deal overall.
@garzuit Thanks for the help. The search continues then
@Thrallherd
Nintendo's official JP store directly states (in Japanese) that the DLC's on the cart.
Every report I've seen from someone buying it has been confirming that to be true, i.e., this.
Even the cart sticker is different, adding '+ Expansion Pass'.
Picked up Kirby Star Allies for the kids along with Super Monkey Ball. Xenoblade Chronicles is tempting but I still am working through Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (plus at least 3 or 4 other JRPGs) and it is likely to be at least a year before I even have time for Xenoblade Chronicles. Maybe it'll be on sale again this time next year?
Disappointed that Yoshi's Crafted World wasn't on sale. The wait continues...
@TDRsuperstar2 I'm about 20 or so hours into SMT 5 and so far it's great but honestly Xenoblade 2 is my all time favorite rpg on the switch, Xenoblade definitive is not far behind it.
How is Paper Mario: The Origami King..Ive not played it yet and want to know if it's any good before i buy it
@Paranoid_Android awesome! Well it sounds like I’ll be working on Xenoblade thank you for your help!
@nimnio I was able to get BOTW for the US price. Made a Canada paypal account, but when it prompt for the address when you're at the check-out, I put in a fake US address and got it. Total price came out to be around 38 bucks. Not sure if that works anymore, since 2 of my buddies couldn't get it to work after I told em. You might be able to get around it for the digital code if you have an American address for any of your accounts or able to do some sneaky stuff hehe.
I don't know about the other games but I jumped to amazon to tell people that xenoblade is cheaper on gamestop but amazon had the same price
Edit: I checked some other games and they also had the same price, but astral chain didn't show me the discounted price until i selected digital
Got Paper Mario. 😊 looking forward to cracking it open.
@CharlieGirl I forget offhand but do sale prices stack with BOGO-style offers at GS?
I ask because a lot of these same games also have a pre-owned price of $24.99 right now.
@Lalivero I want to assume yes, since it's the price that comes up when they scan. But I'm not entirely certain, I'm sorry!
@CharlieGirl Np. I'ma check into that a lil later because that is pretty damn tempting if so, with some of those prices.
this was really cool until they increased the price back to 40$ today which makes me thing either
a. This was supposed to be at the sale price its at and they inputted it wrong
b. This is a black friday sale they were saving for the actual day and accidentaly listed it early
I picked up Splatoon 2 today from Amazon for the same price.
That’s a shame, but Bravely Default 2 is still that price.
Wow! Glad I was able to nab Breath of the Wild and Astral Chain for $26 before they increased the price.
@E-Man ...Huh, didn't know they increased the price, decided to grab Zelda when it was $25 too. lol
Looks like Nintendo must of sent Gamestop an angry letter
@NWC I thought it was fun. Probably the best of the modern-formula Paper Mario games. I’m not a huge RPG fan so it works for me.
@Fighting_Game_Loser Had to be. I was shocked Nintendo was allowing Gamestop to discount first-party titles that low, and now that they've changed it, seems like they weren't really supposed to in the first place.
@Ulysses
GameStop did it last yr too and there was no prob:
Splatoon 2, NSMBUD, FE3H and I believe 2 others
Blk Fri 2019 Odyssey and BotW were $30
I'm sure Tennis has been that low too
I had ordered Kirby and paper mario physical at the 26.99 then later heard they may mail you opened games. I didn't think of that, even though it's why i stopped shopping them locally. Will return them if that's the case. Though i'd have accepted an opened 'new' astral chain if it wasn't sold out . My morals only go so far
I ordered Mario U (Switch) and Sonic Colors (PS4) before the prices went back up.
