Full UK physical chart data is now in for the week ending 25th December, giving the full picture on festive sales. All told it was a solid week for Switch titles, though the presence of its games was reduced slightly due to boosted sales of multiplatform releases.
Leading the way for Switch, somewhat predictably, was Mario Kart 8 Deluxe; the outstanding racer is no doubt a go-to purchase for anyone picking up a new Switch, and of course it features in some bundles. The ongoing success of the game is truly impressive, with the Switch iteration achieving numbers that were impossible for the Wii U original.
Just Dance 2022 continues to perform well, climbing this week. It's multiplatform, but it's worth noting that a whopping 89% of its physical sales last week were on the Switch.
In the top 10 we can also see the ever-present Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Minecraft, the latter of which is only the Switch version when it comes to these UK charts.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:

Honestly I’m not surprised. Mario Kart 8 is the best family friendly game for the Switch that literally anyone can play. I work in retail and it’s always the first game I mention when people ask about Switch games.
FIFA 22 was the Switch version right? 😂
Those mainstream peoples keep playing Just Dance, but i keep playing Dance Dance Revolution games.
I know better rhythm games to play.
We need a DLC for Mario Kart please!
Not a surprise, and with the Switch still in massive demand it's one of the best games you can buy for the system, also it's an awesome 1080p 60fps upgrade with all the bonus DLC included.
The Mobius Strip 8 on the case is pretty fitting, the game just keeps on going.
Release some extra (paid) tracks already Nintendo!! Just think of that huge existing user base and all that easy dollar. DO IT.
The usual suspects
The limited new content (such as no new tracks) is a bit disappointing as a Wii U player, but I recently got ahold of a used copy. I couldn't justify paying the full price for the game again especially after waiting all this time.
No Mario Kart 9 is understandable and was somewhat predictable. But the refusal to add any content over the years is a little bit puzzling.

@Milton_Burle be careful what you say I mentioned this and got blasted by people telling me this is the deluxe version therefore it doesn’t need dlc but I think it’s logical given how well it’s been selling
It would be nice though to get some dlc for mario kart 8 for those of us who have had it since wii u/ early days of switch. A few more tracks would be an appreciated reason to go back to it.
@jjmesa16
No. It's FIFA 22 (PS4/XO/PS5/NS)
@Anti-Matter Just Dance and DDR are almost completely different games.
@Gs69 Certainly seems logical to me. I love the base game - I even owned the Wii U one - but I'm greedy and it does seem like a no-brainer for Nintendo. An established user base (in the millions), a huge percentage of whom would likely pay the extra fiver (or whatever) for new tracks made in an existing game engine. I'm guessing it's not straightforward to "just" chuck in some new tracks, but a man can wish.

Mario Kart 8 was outsold in my city for this holiday season. It was "the promised gift" for this holidays.
@hadrian
I have a lot of DDR games on PS1, PS2, Wii at home.
@Mikmoomamimocki
The difference is Just Dance only depended on licensed songs (almost all terrible songs for my taste) and terrible way to play while DDR have better songlist + Konami original songs (in house production songs so they don't really depend on licensed songs) and way much better and fun gameplay.
@hadrian Obviously, you don't follow Anti-Matter's post. Is that supposed to be some kind of insult? WTF does that have to do with Just Dance and DDR?
That's not surprising in the least bit, Mario Kart 8 has always sold well on the Switch, since the game launched back in 2017.
Wow, we're going on five years in just a few short months. Man I love this system, I've always loved the SNES and viewed it as my all-time favorite system, however, I honestly think the Switch has surpassed it as my favorite console.
@Milton_Burle
Genuinely amazed they haven’t done that yet
@Anti-Matter I mean, the gameplay for both is remarkably different. Songs aside (and DDR has licensed music as well), the gameplay for both services two completely different ways to play a rhythm game.
So it's fine to have a preference on which game you prefer. But I don't think there is any comparison in terms of which one is better. They both serve two different audiences or methods of play
@Milton_Burle I would be on board with that, I still play Mario Kart 8 pretty regularly, so I would definitely buy some DLC tracks.
@Anti-Matter No, I’m saying that they have completely different gameplay so you can’t compare them like that. Just Dance is more casual, like a party game. DDR is more competitive.
Dang it, you beat me to it, @UmbreonsPapa
@Mikmoomamimocki You put it much more succinctly and probably much more accurately than I could have, lol
As it should be... it remains one of the most fun and re-playable games ever made... and enjoyable for all age groups and skill levels.
When MK8 released on WiiU, my niece was 9 years old and could barely stay on the track, but we still had fun racing together. I taught her everything I could over the years... she is now 16 and we still play every chance we get... and she beats me on a regular basis, which makes me a proud uncle!
More DLC would be awesome... but I'm pretty sure Nintendo customers, in general, do not purchase DLC in a manner that makes business sense.
I would be perfectly fine with a Mario Kart Ultimate, which is essentially just Mario Kart 8 packed with additional tracks (retro remakes and/or new). There is no need for any new racing mechanics, other than possibly some additional item balancing.
If not, I will continue playing MK8D forever...
@Milton_Burle I 100% agree I would love some dlc as someone who has owned the Wii u version with the dlc it does feel kinda stale now I just mentioned about Nintendo lavishing so much love on Mario kart tour and the same should be done for 8 but it caused a bit of an outrage amongst some on here
What’s happened to halo infinite 😱
@Milton_Burle That would make sense if they didn't stupidly called it Deluxe. Calling it deluxe means it's super complete or was the definitive version so it shouldn't had any contents still to be added.
Switch, PS5 then XBox for hardware I would imagine.
Glad to see some love for Guardians of the Galaxy. Found it under the tree, played the first few levels and so far I'm really enjoying it.
@JohnnyC it’s a great game I loved it from start to finish. Plus it looks beautiful on ps5.
It's an amazing game, so fun to pick up and play. Intrigued to see what they do for the next instalment. More or the same with just new tracks and slightly improved visuals would do me..
I can see why we haven't seen MK9 with MK8 continuing to do as well as it has. Still, Nintendo needs to show some love to the game with at least more DLC, as others have mentioned.
sigh Have British consumers got nothing better to do than play Mario Kart 8 all day? It just baffles me that even with all the other options that exist for the Switch nowadays, people still go back to that one game for their kicks.
@Blackjay As I've said in here before, it's because Mario Kart 8 is almost always bundled with the Switch in game shops so it's largely new Switch users getting it, hence it being in charts regularly. Was same when GTA5 was always getting bundled with PS4.
@Blackjay maybe it's a fun game? Could use some more dlc tracks though.
