Remember the player’s choice line? Yeah Nintendo doesn’t either.
Am I the only one who finds the mass sale of Zelda titles and Splatoon 2 as omens for announcements tonight? Seems like they would go hand in hand with the hype certain things being revealed would generate… whether more sales for current software that sets up for the next instalment or more future interest for said next instalments. Hmmm….
We're on a site called Nintendolife.com. We all already own every single Switch game ever made.
😜
This is cool, unless you have all the ones you wanted anyway lol
@step_over Oof, you're right. I've edited that — thanks.
@sketchturner I read your comment after i posted, I unintentionally copied you 😅
Hoping all of the Zelda love in these discounts means more revelations on the new Zelda game and not just a "hey, it's the anniversary, yay" announcement at the show. Also, Splatoon 3?
@AgentGuapo
It took FIVE years after the Wii's launch to get Nintendo Selects.
@woodenbard Definitely for Zelda. There's just been a lot going around lately that screams some kind of announcement. Of course, it could all be nothing and that's fine too. Though I think we would all like more info
30% on zelda is quite generous.Those games arent even old
@Poco_Lypso
botw, 2 is nearly 4 years old. Most games drop by 20% after the first 4 months. As much as 50% by the second year. By time the third year rolls around it isn't uncommon to see them as low as 10 to 20 dollars.
BotW is an old game at this point. Time to drop the price on that game. In fact a good number of these games could be under 30 dollars right now and are not that have an MSRP at launch of 60 or have been around for more than 2 years.
@mjharper As long as that anniversary comes with Twilight Princess and Wind Waker on Switch they can do what ever the hell they want. Would be nice if we could get a remake of Majora's Mask on Switch or a Port of the 3DS game.
OOOOH Octopath Traveler!
I just find all the switch sales on its main games to be so lack lustre, on playstation and xbox their games go for way cheaper on the store after a year or two
(@Poco_Lypso) @NotSoCryptic I would agree with your logic for most games, but I think BOTW is underpriced at $60. It easily still holds its value. Great deal at 30% off.
Link’s Awakening, however, was overpriced at launch. 30% off should be the permanent eShop price.
Now that's a FACT (to me) that we'll have some Zelda's Related contend on TGA. All Zelda products on the e-shop (except for Skyward Sword, released this year) are in discount. Maybe BotW Sequel, but could be something else (a remake or collection?)
Yeah, I'm siding on "Something BotW related" being shown tonight.
Also, I've had my eye on Raji for a while. At 50% off, I'm just going to go for it.
@Tandy255 I mean if we're going to play that game of what we think then BotW is severely overpriced. Mass Effect still has value so does GTA5, but doesn't mean the game should be gauged with arbitrary concept of personal value.
I have a lot of good reasons for saying that about BotW as the work put in is a lot less compared to other titles thanks to gross amount of re-use. Not to mention it isn't a very good zelda game let alone a good game to begin with.
Link's Awakening I'd even disagree wtih you there. Multiple difficulty settings, high amount of asset recreation. While it doesn't waste my time like BotW does with mindless monotony, it does use what time it asks from me quite effectively. Enough so that I can come back and play it any time without having to worry about working to play my game like with botw.
So you can see why I didn't use what I think as a metric anymore than I could ever accept your position as a legitimate counter argument.
A Deck of cards has a ton of value over say monopoly, I'm not going to pay more for the deck of cards simply because the value is higher than that of monopoly. You can only play one game on Monopoly, I've lost track of how many different kinds of games can be played with a deck of cards which costs substantially less to manufacture. Keep in mind that monopoly can derive a richer more defined experience because of what it costs.
Nintendo exclusive sales even after over 4 years after release always ends up to 30% sale max only and they already sell their games more expensive then it should, so.
@NotSoCryptic I guess we disagree. I would have paid $80 for BOTW with no regrets (at launch). Shortly after its launch, I bought a copy of Link’s Awakening used for less than $45 (including shipping).
For reference, many SNES games launched between $50-$60 (and that is not adjusting for inflation).
I don’t object to your premise. Most Wii U ports are not worth $60 without extra content (like Bowser’s Fury). I just think BOTW launched at a discount price.
excited for BOTW 2 to NOT be shown off at TGA so i can gloat about it for a third year in a row
Nintendo can only count up to 30...
These are just games which have been nominated or won - I wouldn't read too much into these to have Zelda announcements during the show. If they have announcements then good, I won't have my hopes high. By the way, these are terrible sales, on Steam you can get discounts on this year's nominees like Death's Door and Loop Hero.
@inenai
Correction: Nintendo only needs to count up to 30...
Will there ever be a sale on Serious Sam Collection? I have yet to see a sale on it, lol
Discounts on games most of us already own.
Nothing to see here, move along.
@NotSoCryptic ^^^ you say BotW wasn't a good game? Then why you even want to play it at all at any discount?
btw... botw is the best game ever made
@Tandy255 That's fine if you want to pay more. However what you're stating has no relevance. There is no need to save face, the points have been made, no one is lesser for it. Though there is no disagreement to be had, because you're just sitting from a subjective point of view which has no value in market place value.
I've also been around long enough to remember early cartridge prices and having to deal with some of the bigger releases being as much as 70 or even 80 dollars on SNES. It was a blessing when Sony ushered in optical storage. It was nice paying less for FF7 than I had for FF6, Chrono Trigger, or Mega Man X 3 in the years prior. Most of the cost for those games was the parts that were needed to deliver them. Each of them were later delivered on optical medium for much less than what they were when launched even in the following console generation. In the end that high cost is to pay off development fees, bonus', and manufacturing. After a point the cost of a game should be cut to allow more people to purchase the game and appreciate it. Grow the audience.
@ChakraStomps this is a stupid response.
Where did I say that I'm looking for a discount. I think you can walk the rest of this home. At least I hope you can.
btw... I don't care about your subjective opinion of botw.
@NotSoCryptic you are talking about games not by nintendo. only when nintendo games are really subpar you can expect a discount relatively soon. I bought mario star rush about 50% off recently - also seen paper mario switch at 70% (both black friday), unfortunately I had the latter already.
@Tandy255 i totally understand the logic, it reflects the general market strats out there. Nintendo games are meant to be special and holding their value. Imagine a new lara croft game comes out - I am not interested in it at all, some people will buy it tho, and then it goes on sale after 2 months, a few months later hardly anyone will remember that game even exists. Zelda is an entirely different game. Or do you see anyone talking about tomb raider 1-5 anywhere on the net?
@ChakraStomps He or she must be trolling, right? I am with you. BOTW is awesome! I bought it for Wii U at launch and then again when I got the Switch for Christmas 2017. Can’t wait for part 2!
Who do I have to kill to get a discount on Ori and the Blind Forest? Dammit
@Poco_Lypso You're not really telling me anything new here. However there was a time where Nintendo did drop the price of their games for a Greatest Hits line. I forget what there branding was, so forgive me. I've lost track of thread responses as well so if I'm referring to the wrong thread forgive me. For the most part I'd argue Nintendo is in the wrong for not dropping their prices like their competitors. Sony, MS, 3rd Parties, they all understand that you can get a higher adoption rate by providing windows of purchase prices. This in turn results in plenty of revenue spikes through out the year and generates interest in the product. If Mario Odyssey released 2 years ago and people forgot about their interest in the product, a reduced price or a deep discount proportionate to the amount of time since release will generate buzz. See that sort of thing happen all the time.
Sure Mario Odyssey will likely sell 10 million copies if it hasn't already, but if Nintendo set it's sights on something a bit more substantial, they could probably push that to 20 million and make more money even at selling for less. It seems counter intuitive at first, but I've been in enough quarterly reviews for publishers to know that this is usually the case and Nintendo is just being stubborn about prices hoping to wring the stone dry.
But yes I am aware of Nintendos reluctance to drop prices, its a point that is brought up on a Nintendo Centric Site ad nauseum.
@Tandy255 Eh I paid 40 for it (basically why I andgotna switch) and wish I hadn't. Least favorite Zelda ever.
Nothing in this "sale" for me except to laugh at Nintendough and their 30% off..so greedy.
3 times in a row will of the wisps has been on sale and no sight of blind forest, come on Microsoft!!
Wow, thanks for telling us how much percent the games are off. How about doing the homework for lazy people Like me and tell us the actual sale prices?
@NotSoCryptic I get your point - nintendo did discounted waves for 3ds/wii/wii u - they may do the same on the switch.
But those usually came after a few years...
TBH most games are really bad and boring (even if they get good reviews). Back in the day I remember ubisoft bringing out a new assassins creed game every year, I never played those, but I dont think anyone would pay full price for the 1st assassins creed game a year after release. These companies rely and hype and stuff and after die-hard fans have bought their games they go down with the price fast to sell off their games because they have a sequel coming up, which is an improved copy of last years game.
Nintendo would need to do the same thing if they released a sequel to each series each year. But they only do 1 or 2 games per console lifecycle (mostly). That keeps the franchises special.
Imagine a new metroid 2d game EVERY year. lol. THat would have killed the franchise alr, and you could find copies for 1$
@NotSoCryptic actually your wrong. Digital titles stay at higher prices compared to physical over time. Most actual triple a games stay at full price
@UltimateOtaku91 only games not worth anything at that point.
143 games on my wishlist and only one game on a (slight) sale. 😑
@NotSoCryptic I disagree Mai it because your arguement is completely flawed. There was probably more work put into BotW than any Mass Effect or GTA. You argue reuse but yet all those games have is reuse period. GTA and Mass Effect are literally twice the age of BotW as well.
Value is not about content but about popularity. Nintendo has that and the fact remains their games hold value just because their Nintendo period. Like it or not they are worth more now and 20 years from now than any Mass Effect or GTA will ever be even after being remade 20xs over like they are.
@Dirty0814 and if that was what I was talking about you'd have a point. Go actually some place else.
@UltimateOtaku91 Right on. Most of the AA titles I nab on PSN are half off or more. Nintendo sales are the worst
Maybe it's because I'm depressed or I have some hatred toward Nintendo and NintendoLife at this point, but I don't see anything worth getting.
Glad to finally get Cadence of Hyrule and its DLC!
