Re: Memory Pak: Making Contact With The "Ungoogleable" Game I Couldn't Quite Remember

TioRogerio

To me, a similiar situation was with an old arcade game called Sea Fighter Poseidon from Taito
I used to play it when I was something like 8 years old in an small arcade near home. It was about a diver who had to rescue hostages trapped in cages underwater while fighting other hostile divers. I was too young and never memorize its name. Me and my friends used to call it just "Mergulhador" (Diver)
At the time, it was a trend to call games for a "nickname" since we didn´t understand English. Some curious names we adopt were:
"Jogo do Cemitério " (Cemetery Game) for Ghouls´n´Goblins
" Columbia " (after the Columbia spaceship) for Xevious
" Come-Come" (Eat-Eat) for Pac Man
"Tarzan" for Jungle King
"Motinho (Small Motorbike) for Traverse USA/Zippy Race

Re: Feature: Kid Icarus: Uprising, Nintendo's Most Daring Release Of The Last Decade

TioRogerio

Such a fun, entertaining and well-made game. I personally didn´t have any issues with the controls, but I do understand the insatisfaction of some players.
At least in my city, Kid Icarus was one of the most played games during fan meetings and videogame events in the golden area of streetpass.
Another unique aspect of this game that is often forgotten was its huge collection of cards. Every game came bundled with 06 cards and we could only get more by taking part in Nintendo events and competitions. Their function in the game was very simple, but getting new cards felt like a treasure hunt, given the scarcity and difficulty to get them.

TioRogerio

@Simon97
I wonder ... if audiences are still a bit skeptical about buying SF 6 at launch, considering all the shenanigans Capcom did with SF 5 during its troubled launch and troubled commercial run.

Personally, I am loving it. Really cool SF game. I wouldn´t rank it among my favorites in this franchise, but so far, it seems to offer a good package of content for a fighting-game launch

Re: Random: Guillermo del Toro Praises Mario Movie For Moving Animation In Right Direction

TioRogerio

@Munchlax
Maybe.

But a good animation movie, as well a good videogame, does not necessarily need a "substance", which is a very subjective matter, depending of what the target audience would consider "substantial" in any given genre or style of the product they are paying for.

The Super Mario Bros Movie does not have the pourpose of bringing a deep, meaningful story. Since its early conception, it is meant to be fun and entertaining, aimed on families with young children and Mario fans , and it fits that pourpose , as well as the expectations of its target audiences, very, very well

Re: Mario Movie Surpasses Disney's Animated Hit Frozen At The Box Office

TioRogerio

Well deserved.
I understand what some people say about the plot, it feels simplistic compared to other animation movies, but that´s the pourpose of this film: to be something entertaining to watch.
I personally loved it. It was a perfect movie for family fun and great for fans who could find references everywhere.
A lot of love and care about the source material was put in this movie. The voice cast, musicians and effects directors did a great job and The Super Mario Bros Movie really deserves all the success.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Strategy Games

TioRogerio

So many Valkyria Chronicles comments ...

I´ve never played any of its games, some people told me that it has similar gameplay to Codename:STEAM , which I played (and enjoyed) a lot on the 3DS

After so many recommendations and as a fan of strategy games ... I really must get at least one of them and play right now.

Re: Video: Is 3DS StreetPass Dead?

TioRogerio

I used to get lots of Streetpass tags in my city´s subway system when the 3DS was popular

Today, I still get some tags weekly with family members. Counting siblings and nephews/nieces, we have 07 3DSs in our family. So, for us ... it´s not completely dead yet.

Re: Bone's Cafe Is An Overcooked-Inspired Co-op Romp To Die For

TioRogerio

This seems interesting. I wonder how it looks on a TV, because taking the first image as reference, it seems a little bit hard to identify all the elements on screen.

I really appreciate these kind of chaotic co-op games. Overcooked, Snipperclips and Moving Out are family favorites here.

Re: Poll: How Many 3DS Consoles Have You Owned?

TioRogerio

I always had two devices: one for my Brazilian account and other for my Canadian account.
The Brazilian 3DS E-shop had some shortcomings, and the 3DS is region locked, so I needed a second device in order to get certain games or contents.

My first 3DS was a regular, acqua blue one, I switched it for a blue XL, then for a New 3DS, with exchangeble covers. My second 3DS was a blue 2DS, then I switched it for a purple New 2DS XL

I gave the old devices to some family members. Sometimes we still gather to play some good old Mario Kart 7 together.

Re: DNF Duel's Switch Release Won't Support Rollback Netcode

TioRogerio

Hello everyone
I am not much familiar with fighting games technical terms. I´ve searched online about how netcode rollback works but in most websites or videos, articles just say that it "improves gameplay" and don´t explain exactly what it does.
Would someone who has more knowledge of that, please, explain what exactly "netcode rollback" does ? Thanks a lot.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online Game Boy, SNES & NES Service With Four More Titles

TioRogerio

Side Pocket ?? Seriously ???

I mean ... for me, as a Brazilian, it´s a huge surprise. That game was very, very popular in my country. On rental stores, it used to have a high demand.

I believe it wasn´t as popular overseas as it was here. Brazilian SNES fans had some peculiar tastes during the late 90´s. Some games that were not big in US/Europe were very, very popular here: Top Gear, Side Pocket, International Superstar Soccer, Goofy Toop etc., specially due to its multiplayer modes

Re: Random: Twitter 'Like' Turns Into Super Mushroom For Super Mario Bros. Movie

TioRogerio

@HeadPirate
I´m in Brazil, here we have the sense that only media people actually use it.
Engagement is very low, regarding brands, companies or any business that uses it to promote products.
People never share anything from Twitter on other services, we see it only on "old media" (Tv , publications)
I found it weird as old media still try to push Twitter even knowing that it is a failure - at least in Brazil

Re: Wii Sports Could Be Inducted Into The Video Game Hall Of Fame

TioRogerio

@Anti-Matter

Oh yeah. Dance Dance Revolution really deserves a spot.
People don´t remember Dance Dance Revolution that much because when it came and became a worldwide trend, we didn´t have Youtube and social media services were still small and not really popular

I remember foundly the years when DDR was huge. I´d even that it was a cultural phenomenon at the time. There were competitions all around the globe and tons and tons of player communities organized in web forums, some were even international. Freestyle videos were shared extensively through videologs and/or by file-sharing websites. Sometimes, physical educators, teachers or even doctors came with research on DDR as a potential activity to exercise and help people lose weight.

In certain countries, like Norway, at some point it was even considered a sport. Championships in Europe and Asia were huge deals.

I myself met and even made some friends with people from all around my country, despite the low availability of DDR (PIU were more popular here due to its lower cost)

Fortunately, there´s still an old Supernova at a shopping mall here in my city where I can play once in a while. The "dance machine" trend has long come, but the impact it had on the game market and the creation of online gaming communities was really huge at the time.

From a historic point-of-view, DDR should be considered a essential game, just like Street Fighter 2, Super Mario Bros, Pac-Man or Tetris

Re: Random: Twitter 'Like' Turns Into Super Mushroom For Super Mario Bros. Movie

TioRogerio

Not related to the issue ... but I am still impressed that people still use Twitter to this day ...
There was a point in time (and that was few years ago) that even the defunct and "obscure" G+ had more active users than Twitter. Personally, I don´t know a single person - friend, colleague, co-worker, relative etc. who still uses it.
... or maybe it is just not popular at all in my country. Probably.

Re: Super Nintendo World's Mario Kart Ride Has A "Waistline" Limit (US)

TioRogerio

@ThisisJosh
We don´t know for sure why it was not redesign and we can´t argue unless we know all the specifications and limitations of the ride´s mechanical engineering, as I stated before . Maybe a redesigned ride just wouldn´t work properly and it would need to be rebuilt from scratch, what is not cheap by any means. Rides are extremely expensive equipments that sometimes take many months to start generating returns to their owners.

Some people with very limited understanding of how rides work, of the engineering required in their design, and the safety limitations they need to operate properly, may see this case as "fatphobia", but considering that rides also have a limitation in the lower end - people too short or too slim can´t ride certain rides - this argument get just pointless

Re: Super Nintendo World's Mario Kart Ride Has A "Waistline" Limit (US)

TioRogerio

@ThisisJosh
Sometimes, the mechanics and the physic forces of certain rides don´t allow much room for adaptation to larger or even smaller/thinner people. Remember that there´s also limitations to the low end of the spectrum.

Rollercoasters and spinning rides are particulary very, very trick to adjust due to the G-forces applied over the human body. Rides, even small ones, are always designed and engineered considering the amounts of weight, body mass, speed movement, G-forces etc. that allow the ride to work properly without any room of risk.

I know we´re talking about a slow ride here, but there´s a lot more to safety in any ride than just small body adjustments. We need to know how exactly the ride works, the capacity of movement/weight of the track, its relation with the scenic elements, and verify if the ride itself would operate properly if any of its mechanical limitations is surpassed.

Re: Super Nintendo World's Mario Kart Ride Has A "Waistline" Limit (US)

TioRogerio

Safety measures are commonplace ir amusement parks.

We´re talking about installations that have many mechanical and eletrical elements that can be harmful for guests or even cause deaths, even in slow rides.

Height and/or weight requirements depend of the mechanics and physical forces applied to its movements, some rides just can´t handle very short/tall or very fat/skinny people.

That said, saying that these measures, aimed at the safety of guests, are "fatphobic" or "exclusionary" is just plain stupid.
