Atlus Mobile RPG 'Megami Ibunroku Persona: Ikuu no Tou Hen' Coming To Switch

Seems really strange if you're porting some iteration of the game to port that one instead of the PSP one.

@Lizuka @ancientlii Going off of what I know of Atlus's I-mode library, it's most likely a direct sequel to Persona 1, not any kind of alternate version. They did these for several games, including Soul Hackers and the first 2 SMT games.

If I want to be FAR too hopeful, technically this does mean there is barely a chance that the Persona 2 duology might get rereleased at all which I’d be ecstatic about since it’s the last major game on my Persona bucket list (sorry P1), but knowing Atlus’s track record and what this announcement actually is? Yeah my expectations of a P2 port are still nonexistent. The fact this is an ancient mobile version of P1 that was only ever Japanese means this’ll probably never get a release over here in the west, which isn’t a problem really but it still means P1 and 2 will continue to go forgotten here. If this were a port of the normal P1, whether it be the original release or the PSP remake, I’d be more interested, but as it stands this stirs nothing but apathy in me.

I wonder if they gonna eventually release all of these old megaten mobile games which are pretty much unobtainable right now.

@Slim_in_Blue Both PSP versions are in English now thanks to fans so I’d recommend those. The Persona 2 duology is really good and also kind of completely mad at the same time. Persona 1 is also good but it’s dated much worse than the 2 games.

I'd like a port of Persona 1 PSP but with the option of the PS1 soundtrack.
No offense, but the OG OST is so much better. I like the vocal tracks, but they feel weird in the game itself, besides maybe the credits theme.

Any time a mobile-only game gets released on a non-mobile platform, that is a positive step for the world of game preservation.

...There are so many obscure little mobile-only spinoff titles that have been lost to time, it's so sad.

As a fan of long-running series like Sonic and Castlevania, it's always interesting to find a list of every game release and see some old, obscure, barely-talked-about mobile games among them. Did you know that there was a side-scrolling Sonic Unleashed made for mobile?

Thankfully many of these get preserved online and can be emulated, but in other cases, especially in regards to more modern smartphone mobile games, they just end up getting lost.

I've been on an Ys kick this year, and I've been trying to play every single Ys game in existence - but I found that this would be impossible due to the existence of a mobile game that has been lost to time. Apparently it was a side-story of Ys I&II starring Dogi, and his adventures that happened concurrently while Adol was off doing his thing.
Sounds fun, but it's literally unplayable because nobody has preserved it online.
I hope as many mobile-only games get ported to modern platforms as possible.

Well... Can we just get more G-MODE games released worldwide? Yeah, I know that most of the games are Japanese exclusives, but... We have Topolon and mobile version of Zanac released worldwide... Though, these games are not text-heavy like others and they had been released worldwide before, if I don't confuse... Well... For now, I'll continue to play Topolon for time to time, then...

So for those wondering, this is basically a "gaiden" story for Persona 1, as these mobile projects tended to be. It's not any kind of alternate version from the PS1 or PSP game.

Atlus has several, and I do mean SEVERAL, random-ass mobile games that never left Japan, and that have been almost entirely lost to time and obscurity. It's really cool for preservation/historical purposes that these are slowly getting rereleased. If only we could get localizations as well.

I went nuts one day and bought a ton of these on the Japanese eShop, thinking that it would be a little challenging but doable to play the text heavy ones with google lens translating for me. I was wrong! It was VERY challenging!

That trailer music really needs somebody yelling Mortal Kombat in it.....

Weird but glad they are preserving the mobile games. But can we get person 1/2s.

Still really hoping we get Persona 1 and 2 on Switch. Maybe some translations of the OG SMT games too.

this seems to be the most impenetrable games series ever. totally nonsensical titling, random remakes and reissues, and seemingly many releases per year all over the place, and never an attempt at outreach to new players or even a clear starting point (yes i have P4 on ps2 and have for years, but playing it is like waking up in the middle of someone else's strange dream. in a bad way 😆)

Would love to see Persona 1 and both versions of 2 released on the switch. Just port the PSP versions and call it a day.

@locky-mavo Persona 3 Reload is coming to a Nintendo platform, I wouldn't worry about that.

I don't play Persona because I generally don't play Mature games, but I love the design of that guy with the big nose. He's like the love child of Gru and Dr. Doofenschmirtz. My headcannon is that his name is Grufenschmirtz, please don't tell me otherwise and destroy my fantasies. This is the only thing I have to contribute to the conversation.

I would love if they release Soul Hackers : Intruder ... that game never left Japan is cannot be played by any means since it was made for pre-smartphone era devices ..
