Nobody was entirely sure about the potential of Game Builder Garage prior to its release, but now that it's in the hands of the Nintendo community, we're seeing all sorts of amazing creations.
Some of the most popular ones so far have been recreations of Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario Kart, and now we've got an early look at F-Zero. Yes, we all saw it coming. This particular build has been created by ZeldaBoi1 - the same individual who created the Super Mario Kart game.
It's still in the early phases, but obviously, it already looks faithful to the source material:
We guess this makes up for the lack of F-Zero at the recent Nintendo Direct. Speaking of, for those of you who have been left wanting more games to celebrate Link's 35th anniversary, the same creator has also made a first-person demo of the original Legend of Zelda game. We must admit, it looks pretty impressive:
And while we're here, how about some Excitebike and EarthBound? Here you go:
Keep in mind, Game Builder Garage is still less than a week old, so what we're seeing here is just beginning. If you would like to see more of what the community has created so far, why not check out our video down below:

This is like Nintendo's version of Dreams on PS4 and it's amazing what people have done with it already
@TheFrenchiestFry In such a short time, too!
ZeldaBoi needs a job at Nintendo
Ugh, wished I was that fast...been trying to make my own 2D platformer similar to Super Mario Bros. and...I'm barely making progress. I got the camera how I want it to work...and running....that's...it. >.<
So I was clearly misinformed. I thought there was no way to make your own assets and you had to use very basic looking provided stuff. If that's the case, how to these things exist? What that feature added post launch or something?
@Heavyarms55 Basically you can create your own textures/sprites.
Now if only the programming ui was a clustertruck of lines and boxes.
I remade 1-1 from super Mario bros if anyone is interested! GBG has a quite a bit of limitations, but I think I managed to replicate the game alright with what I had to work with. Here is the code:
G 006 38T GY2
You can check out this video I made of it to:

Lol, how many things do we need to do to make Nintendo understand that we really WANT a new F-Zero??
Well, yes, we DO want it. A new one for Switch, specifically. Although a remaster of GX would do fine as well.
Fans doing what Nintendo stubbornly refuses to do.
Somebody please recreate Earthbound 64!
@NateLaGreat Just watched it, great job! It looks really good
@JayJ Well you can't hope for them to do everything. They could only do so many
Impressive!
Truly exceptionally talented individuals out there.
Just like the inventive Mario Maker levels.
nintendo hire this man!
I'm stunned at the level of creativity some people have with stuff like this, it's incredible!
NINJA APPROVED
oh.wow. it is unreal how great people are making such great games. this is definitely worth the 30 bucks. cannot wait to see what else fans are making. i wonder how big can one game be. like could you make an actual mario game not just one level. but a game. maybe some one will. cannot wait to see what is next.
@Heavyarms55 you can draw your own sprites. You cannot create 3D assets.
Or they could just start up the Nintendo Online Services SNES App. ☺️
I wonder if we will ever get a F-Zero again?
I don't get it. You have the potential to creat a brandnew game, but all that people come up with, are old games? Why? I really don't understand. In my eyes, that is so lazy.
These are really cool, but I hope we also see some mechanically original (if more aesthetically basic) titles being showcased to.
The tools provided open up some really novel and weird possibilities that go far beyond just ‘walk around and jump’, and I’d love to see creators who capitalise on that potential with original projects be given as much exposure as those who make impressively faithful recreations of games we’ve already played.
@Ulanda We are Nintendo fans and we love to see something like Earthbound being on Switch. So that's why, it's not because we are lazy! Far from it. Pretty insulting towards these creative minds to call them lazy. Try doing these yourself!
@Ulanda trying to recreate an existing game is a good way to familiarise yourself with the tools and limitations of the software
@NateLaGreat looks great. Good job
Absolutely loving fans do this straight away with GBG. On a side note, who saw Replaced during the xbox live stream and wished, "Oh my god that's the engine and style Nintendo should use for some of their new games". I could definitely see a new Mario, F zero, Metroid, earthbound, Kid icarus with those kind of graphics.
@NateLaGreat very cool but ultimately what’s the point?….countless people constantly on here moaning about Nintendo releasing the same stuff over and over. Why not put the energy into creating something original!
Quite impressed with how fast people have been finding bonkers ways to circumvent the limitations in this.
I wonder how this will develop in the future. So far people only make short demos with this. Could it be possible to create a full fledged RPG??
Apparently the only thing I need to do to get an iota of attention, is rip off and steal everyone else's IP, instead of just making 100 games in SmileBASIC over the past two years.
@HamatoYoshi haha to learn how to make games. I typically start with 1-1 when learning a new programming language to get familiar with it. I'm working on some original ones now!
@gaga64 oh please, you don't need to copy a game to learn how game work. If that would be the case, we would only have the same game and people would not try to start from zero by themselves.
@broskiplays So just because "you" are fans, you want only the same, huh? To me, that is lazy, because it leaves no space for new thing because the demand is always the same type if game or title itself. And yes, I know how hard it is to program a game, because I tried it together with my friends when we were kids by using C64 Basic. But that diesn't excuse why it has to be the same game. Prople should go and use their creativity to make new stuff instead of always the same game. That is lazy, whether you like it or not. And it doesn't help creating new game, because if you know this"one game", you can go and try to build one from scratch.
By the way, I'm sure Mother or Earthbound will come eventually to the Switch, because the demand is there.
@Ulanda what did you say? I didn't listen to your paragraph.
@broskiplays that is your problem, not mine.
@Ulanda I didn’t say it was the only way, just that it is a good way, particularly if you’re not familiar with the tool set yet
@gaga64 if you are unfamiliar with tools, there are tutorials and prople, who worked with it or even designed it. Heck, how do you know how to build a game with getting a tutorial or going through a school for it in the first place? 101 of something new is necessary, but just copying a games as it is, is just lazy. Ever teacher will tell you this. If you know the knowhow, use your head and imagination to create something new or something you had in mind, but don't just be a lazy copycat.
@Maxz if Dreams is any indication, you won't.
If the game is successful it will have some memes.
The Nintendo executives were probably about to green light a new F-Zero. But then they saw this and thought, "Sweet, someone already has it covered! Cancel the new F-Zero!"
