Who needs Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed and Far Cry when you have the all-time classic board game Monopoly.
Ubisoft has announced a new take on Hasbro's property trading game called Monopoly Madness - a title that "reinvents" the iconic board game and is launching on the Nintendo Switch and multiple other platforms on 9th December this year. Here's the rundown, courtesy of the PR:
In MONOPOLY Madness, players will compete to buy and upgrade properties in MONOPOLY City while Mr. Monopoly is away on his well-earned vacation. They will face up to 5 other players in shorter rounds that are a frantic, real-time race on the chaotic streets of MONOPOLY City without the boundaries of the board. Players will need to collect money and other resources around the map in order to buy and upgrade their properties. The more properties players own, the more points they’ll earn, bringing them closer to the finish line in the race to riches! Along the way, players can also grab power-ups from Community Chests including bulldozers, jackhammers and more and use them against opponents to gain an advantage to win. However, players will need to watch out for random events that can happen at any time, making the journey to become the wealthiest of them all even more chaotic.
20 new playable characters inspired by the classic MONOPOLY game tokens can be played on four unique environments with their own unique ambiance and architecture, including the iconic City and its Night Life, Beach Town and Cozy Falls. Each environment comes with several levels and layout, giving a total of 20 different arenas to play.

The first Monopoly game on the Switch was actually not bad in my opinion. May give this one a try if my party board game itch is not satisfied with the new Mario Party.
Wow the Monopoly games are released on almost every Nintendo system (except Virtual Boy, Wii U, and 3DS). Hard to figure why the Monopoly guy was never considered for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
The only "Madness" I see coming out of Ubisoft is something I'd rather stay out of.
I hope that "Madness" translates to playable. The first Monopoly on the Switch was a glitchy mess. Input delays, weird lag, and really bad UI made the game virtually unplayable for me. I've never been able to properly pay off debt and actually cause someone to win or lose at the game. I hope this fixes all of those issues.
This looks cool
Instead of Monopoly Madness it should just be called Tencent.
The trailer looks crazy.
How about the actual gameplay footage ?
If there aren't at least 4 Monopoly games on Switch by the time all is said and done, the console was a complete failure.
@Specter_of-the_OLED I'd take him over Sora.
@Kaden I miss the Mario Party board were you try to buy control of the most hotels.
Is that the superjail intro song? Like melody ish or something. I’m hearing things. Monopoly is boring and I will never play it again, but this I might play
This doesn't even look like Monopoly anymore.
Is this anything like Momotaro Dentetsu? Ubisoft are probably cynical enough to be 'inspired' by it lol.
If any one has a board game itch, try out Armello.
It's been patched and updated, so it now runs perfectly on Switch.
So it's actually 3 boards then and the last monopoly struggled to run on the switch so I have no hope for this
.....see what y'all have done? DO YOU SEE??? Now goddamn Monopoly thinks it's okay to dip its toes in MOBAs. Go out there and fix humanity you $-Bags!!!!
The only words that jumped out at me were, "Ubisoft is a Monopoly."
Gotta feeling the person with the bulldozer is gonna get cussed out.
I'll stick to Monopoly on the PS1, thanks.
@Anti-Matter I think the trailer may have actually been gameplay lol
@Anti-Matter There is a lot of actual gameplay footage.
@Dethmunk Assuming you play any real time games at all, I wouldn't simply disregard it on the expectation that Monopoly should be slow paced. It isn't Monopoly, really. It's a party game with the Monopoly license thrown in.
Hey, Nintendo Life? You think you could also cover how Ubisoft employees are still filing harassment complaints and are instead being told to shut up about it?
I feel that issue is still being swept under the rug just because it's "old news" despite it still happening.
Bring back Monopoly Tycoon! I LOVED that game!!
@Kyranosaurus oh sorry, didn't realize this was called "Ubisoft Life."
This is a responsibility for places like IGN and Kotaku to carry, not Nintendo Life. The only reason they mentioned this is because it's coming to Switch, it's not NL's job to report on the whole industry.
This game looks a little TOO fast paced for my blood, so I'll wait for more about it to be revealed. Yes, I just said a monopoly game looks too fast paced.
@RandomGamesAndStuff They've covered this before, it was just a year ago.
I'm not even attacking NL but it's very strange for you to be against the idea of bringing this stuff to light, especially considering there's many people here who may only be following Nintendo Life for news and not aware of what's been going on.
@Kyranosaurus I'm certainly not against the idea of bringing the stuff to life, and of course it's good that they brought it up in the first place, but just like the Activision Blizzard thing back in July... I'm glad they covered the major details at that point but it's not their responsibility to give full coverage to it. That's a job for others, like I've mentioned.
Ubisoft and board/card games on the Switch are a mess. Why Ubisoft cannot get such a simple concept working flawlessly is beyond me.
I have no faith that this will work any better than their other similar games.
Two things:
1- His name is Rich Uncle Pennybags (which makes more sense considering the time period this game originally debuted)
2- They should really make a new version of Monopoly Tycoon. Exceptional evolution of the main board game.
Why not partner with Nintendo and make Monopoly with Nintendo characters….
@Jayenkai You sir, have very good tastes. Wish I could post the Discord invite to my Monopoly Tycoon server here...
@kal_el_07241 YES! DeepRed is still around, so why not ask them?
I honestly didn't think I would see a couple fans of Monopoly Tycoon in here. My heart is happy!!
All I want is a real Monopoly game (not some spinoff) that isn't bogged down by long animations. Honestly, the speed on the NES version was about right.
@Kaden if you mean satisfied with the levels of rage from Mario party just skip it and go straight to monopoly.
Whilst many would like to play this as the standard board game ( like the family an I do when we have a break together), the Switch and PS4 iterations have been pretty good. Do I need more is a question I can't answer yet until I know more
Why? Monypoly is a bad game to begin with, and there already versions on the switch..
@rockodoodle That actually exists, unless you meant one on Switch?
@romanista Because that bad game with a checkered past is making tons of money. Whoever owns it now wants to keep it in public eye.
I think Monopoly could be fixed with either a hard turn limit or some sort of mechanic that makes each bankrupcy a heavier and heavier burden on the rest of the players, leading to a market crash.
Today someone has shown me a version of Monopoly in a box the size of a pack of mints. Sorry but that beats Switch in portability
He doesn't look right without his monocle
Pass , I mean wtf is even going on 😂😂😂
All we've had out of Ubisoft for their years of systemic sexual harassment and cover ups has been a half assed apology. They're not getting any of my money.
I loathe Monopoly with a passion that will never die, and I'm not even going to click on the video for this.
Looks like a hectic party game. Definitely has the potential to be a lot of fun.
What was that?! I'm so confused... and a little intrigued.
Yeaaa I'm not really sure what's going on but it doesn't look like the Monopoly that I remember. Hopefully they release a demo to try it out.
Why not Far Cry 3 or 4 instead? or may be WD 1.
Hmmm, looks okay-ish, maybe. I quite like the other Monopoly game on switch
