Right, it's a slow Monday afternoon, the entire US is on holiday, and E3 week Geoff Keighley's Not E3 is next week, so all the video games are hiding until then. Dear readers, there is not a lot happening right now.
Except this bombshell of a discovery in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, that is! It turns out that the hex code for the colour of Phoenix Wright's suit, and the hex code for that very particular shade of burgundy on Edgeworth's suit, spell out some very interesting secrets...
Never mind that the actual hex codes for the suits are a little different — Feenie's suit is more like #264b8a and Edgey's is #a92e55 — the biggest realisation this has led to for us is that together, Phoenix, Edgeworth, and Maya's signature colours make up the bisexual flag. Coincidence? ...Yeah, probably.
Did we mention it's a very slow news day?
What's your favourite hex colour code? Tell us in the comments.

OF COURSE. OF BLOODY COURSE IT'S THAT.
Oh god, what about Ryunosuke? WHAT ABOUT HERLOCK OH NO.
I mean… the hex codes there are #042069 and #B00B69. Come on.
At least they admitted it was a slow news day lol.
Also, the greatest hex colour is #191970. Just fact.
Its a reach. As much as I love secrets like this, this is a reach
Maybe these colors were picked simply because blue and red are often used in opposition.
People have been trying so hard to find some sordid themes under the surface of Ace Attorney ever since it came out. And I sort of regret how I ended that last sentence because everyone seems so sure every character in the game is gay.
@TheFox Either the English translators worked it sneakily in or it’s intentional because Phoenix and Edgeworth have undeniable sexual tension. If this was a hetero couple in a TV law show then they’d be an item by the end of the first season.
@nessisonett I've played all the games and I've never gotten that impression. The only time I thought something might be going on was between Edgeworth and Gumshoe, but that was mostly limited to the last story of the first game.
@TheFox The whole ‘arguing but clearly secretly like each other and also have a past together’ is such a trope when it comes to romantic relationships. There’s loads of these sorts of things that people don’t see but totally would if it was a heterosexual couple. I think it’s mostly due to most people automatically assuming a platonic relationship with same-sex couples. There’s such obvious passion between Phoenix and Edgeworth, with them going to lengths far exceeding what friends do for each other, that I don’t see how it could be interpreted as anything else.
Just want to chip in with a, yes they are absolutely gay and that is canon.
On a serious note though, the developers who worked on the original Ace Attorney trilogy absolutely were aware of people's perceptions of the characters as gay and included intentional references to the characters being gay in the second and third games - they have said as much in interviews!

Honestly, coincidence or not, i headcanon both as Bi. And if anyone wants to say that i desperately want to make them gay, first off, yes i am thank you very much, and second, you could cut their tension with a butter knife, it's that apparent.
@TheFox I've always been baffled when people ship any two random characters simply because they were friendly with each other or exchanged a simple hello.
However, it's pretty obvious with Wright and Edgeworth that there are shippy vibes and that it was intentionally written to be that way. And I'm 100% here for it.
You're telling me you didn't read the line "Thanks to you, I've been saddled with unnecessary.....feelings." and it never came off as the least bit gay to you?
@nessisonett Is this something hinted at in the later games?
I've only played the original trilogy (on the 3rd case of Apollo Justice) and I've not had this impression at all.
@C-Olimar It’s throughout the series but Edgeworth isn’t really in the games post 3. Although again, there are definite vibes in the one case he turns up in a later game, I won’t spoil the specifics. In terms of specific moments throughout the trilogy, the comment above yours is a great example, along with Phoenix totally acting like an ex throughout Justice For All with the way he talks about Edgeworth after he upped and left. The best example of all comes in Bridge to the Turnabout though, when if you present a wrong profile to Iris while playing as Edgeworth, she mentions a secret that he’s hiding to which Edgeworth seems shocked that she guessed. Then Iris says it ‘takes one to know one’. Given that she’s in love with Phoenix, it’s fairly clear what she’s referring to. The anime apparently leans into it a bit more but I wasn’t really a fan of the anime so I’ve only heard that second hand.
Everyone is bisexual confirmed.
@Fizza whispers fruity legends...! 🦄❤️🌈💪🏻
But seriously, you can usually cut the sexual tension with a knife between Sherlock and his partner. And it's no different for Ryonosuke and Herlock. (And they would be so cute together, and we've got an enemies, to friends, to lovers... 😍)
@TheFox That's my favourite ship! 😂😁🛳️
But I mainly like Gumshoe a lot, so it's probably that! 😂
@TheFox But seriously: I think it's the same reason a lot of people ship Phoenix with his assistants, and that's the one I can't see. I don't think he ever gives a hint he likes those.
So it's all a bit of fun! 😂😁
Idk what people are saying this is absolutely not canon lol
