Marvelous and XSEED Games sure have given us a bit of a shock today! First Studios, the developers of the action-packed mech combat game Daemon X Machina is following its debut title up with a survival action game called Deadcraft. And it's coming to all platforms pretty soon, on 19th May.
That's a heck of a switch-up from their first game, right? But it looks just as red and stylised. Your goal will be to fight for your life while growing an army of undead minions. Sound familiar? Well, protagonist Reid is half-human, half-zombie, and this gives him some interesting and unique powers that allow him to command his undead zombie forces, as well as defeat opponents with.
Marvelous shared details of the upcoming zombie army game with us below:
DEADCRAFT is the newest deadly and daring game from Marvelous’ First Studio, creators of DAEMON X MACHINA. As if a hail of meteors reducing earth to a barren wasteland wasn’t bad enough, the devastation released a mysterious virus that resurrected the dead. Ravaged by fire from the sky and the dead below, only a fraction of the human population remains, largely clustered into small outposts where power-hungry opportunists capitalize on the chaos. A rare survivor of exposure to the virus, part-zombie Reid is captured by the twisted Nebron, leader of the Ark. After escaping from the torture table into the surrounding wasteland, Reid is determined to return to the city and exact some apocalyptic justice.
Stare in wild wonder as the half-human, half-zombie protagonist Reid slices through foes on a quest for righteous vengeance! Wield his inhuman zombie powers to fend off enemies while searching the wasteland for answers to what happened to the only man he could trust. Build fantastical new armaments, conjure curious concoctions, or even grow and harvest zombie soldiers to stand by Reid’s side against whatever the apocalypse throws at him. It’s a dangerous world, and in order to stay alive Reid must take full advantage of the dead!
Key features
▪ Farm the Dead to Stay Alive ‒ Plant fresh corpses (or just a combination of limbs) into the ground and give them a little TLC until they sprout into an undead army of infantry, sentries, and more!
▪ Creeptastic Crafting ‒ Surviving the apocalypse sometimes means using whatever scraps one can find to make new weapons. Other times it means enlisting a loyal undead to assist in building and running an entire factory of grotesque machinery churning out an unholy amalgamation of survival items.
▪ Death-Defying Powers of the Undead ‒ Reid’s zombie side gives him a powerful advantage in a fight, allowing him to shield himself from danger or swat enemies away like annoying gnats. But as each devoured enemy pushes him closer to his zombie side, he’ll have to take care to maintain what little humanity he has left.'
▪ Become a Savior...or a Scourge ‒ Help out other survivors to learn new recipes or abilities. But if Reid’s hard up for money or supplies, shake down a local and take it off them…as long as he doesn’t mind potentially becoming a wanted man.
There'll be two versions of this apocalyptic zombie fest you can snatch up. The standard edition will cost £19.99 / €24.99 / $24.99, or you can grab the Digital Deluxe edition for £29.99 / €39.99 / $39.99, which comes with:

Well if theres a free demo I might as well give it a try.
Hopefully this game does better than Daemon x Machina did.
This looks and sounds worse than DxM…. Dag
Too much hate for DxM going on in here.
It's a fine game.
I loved DxM! I have it for both Switch and PC. So I'll check this out! The hate for DxM is unreal. Along w Astral Chain it was one of my favorite games of 2019.
@moodycat How was it awful? I thought it was alright, nothing remarkable, but not bad either.
I don't know, looks pretty cool. Although there is a lot of competition in this genre (survival game with crafting etc), Don't Starve and Dysmantle to name a few.
2009 zombie slaying times are back again!
DxM was easily one of the best mech games ever made. Not sure what all the haters have been smoking.
The music is quite a turn off
Looks alright. I'll def play the demo
Daemon X Machina was pretty solid, but this doesn't look nearly as interesting.
I really loved DxM.
But this? Not my style.
Looks interesting.
I will keep an eye out for this.
I enjoyed DxM.
Not the best but definitely not as bad as others make out.
Bought the Orbital Edition on clearance sale for less than the standard.
Physical or no buying ... do they take us for granted.....
This is a big no. Looks like a very uninspired game.
DxM was decent loved when you were actually in a fight but there was a lot of barriers to just being in the fights themselves. Was really hopeing they did sequel to expand it out because there is a really good core to the game. Maybe later but probably not given how poorly it did.
This looks absolutely coo-coo bananas
Cool for trying something new. I’m good though.
Reid is an interesting name for a protagonist. I really like that name actually. No reason why.
So, are they going to go after streamers and youtubers again like they did with Daemon X Machina?
That basically killed any chance that game had at success
This looks like Contra Rogue Corps trying extra hard to be edgy.
I lover Daemon X Machina. But the reason it was so fun, was because they added gyro aiming for the mechs. Any time quality gyro aiming is involved, the gameplay is fun.
This looks... OK. I downloaded the demo but have barely started. Just got a save file going and went to sleep.
I downloaded it without reading the article and I did not expect a zombie apocalypse themed Harvest Moon. DxM wasn't my jam (honestly if the mechs didn't fly it probably would have been) but at least it was original. This was kinda old school, aside from the zombie arm. But I gotta say the "survival" mechanics don't appeal to me. I feel chained to a location I don't care about.
Article does this game a SERIOUS disservice, imho due to the fact that this is also the same company that did both the Story of Seasons and Runefactory series-- and those are MUCH more appropriate to mention in the case of this particular game given that it's basically a less cutesy Runefactory... with Zombies.
From THAT perspective/comparison, played the demo and loved it.
Granted, time will tell if the entire game lives up to the first few hours but... yeah, the original creators of Harvest Moon really pushing that genera into a very different direction as the one they originally started-- is a wee bit more accurate, i would say.
