It's time, once again, for the Media Create chart results out of Japan; they give as an idea of what's connecting with the Japanese gaming market and what is ultimately falling short.
Kicking off with software, Monster Hunter XX (Double Cross) remains at number one in its second week, passing one million retail sales in the process. Though it's not matching its predecessors, considering the volume of remix releases for the series in Japan this is arguably a reasonable sales performance.
Amazingly there are no new releases in the top 20, with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided arriving in Japan last week but failing to make the top 20. We have good momentum for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and 1-2-Switch in the top two spots, with Pokémon Sun and Moon the highest in the 3DS stakes in sixth place. Results are below with lifetime sales in brackets.
- [3DS] Monster Hunter XX (Capcom, 03/16/17) – 280,293 (1,128,760)
- [NSW] The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Limited Edition Included) (Nintendo, 03/03/17) – 39,103 (302,080)
- [NSW] 1-2-Switch (Nintendo, 03/03/17) – 21,647 (137,384)
- [PS4] Ghost Recon: Wildlands (Ubisoft, 03/09/17) – 17,349 (133,768)
- [PS4] Horizon: Zero Dawn (SIE, 03/02/17) – 12,559 (181,944)
- [3DS] Pokemon Sun and Moon (Nintendo, 11/18/16) – 9,956 (3,221,001)
- [PSV] Accel World VS. Sword Art Online (Bandai Namco, 03/15/17) – 9,665 (48,318)
- [PS4] Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix (Square Enix, 03/09/17) – 9,216 (88,147)
- [PS4] NieR: Automata (Square Enix, 02/23/17) – 8,847 (278,156)
- [Wii U] The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo, 03/03/17) – 7,796 (81,188)
- [PS4] Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash (Limited Edition Included) (Marvelous, 03/15/17) – 7,529 (61,276)
- [PS4] Accel World VS. Sword Art Online (Bandai Namco, 03/15/17) – 7,287 (39,302)
- [NSW] Super Bomberman R (Konami, 03/03/17) – 6,952 (57,708)
- [3DS] Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS (Nintendo, 12/01/16) – 6,801 (1,002,323)
- [PS4] Grand Theft Auto V (Low Price Version) (Take-Two, 10/08/15) – 5,295 (308,854)
- [NSW] Dragon Quest Heroes I•II for Nintendo Switch (Square Enix, 03/03/17) – 4,544 (41,419)
- [3DS] Yo-kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki (Level-5, 12/15/16) – 4,425 (694,376)
- [3DS] Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 Professional (Square Enix, 02/09/17) – 4,353 (182,957)
- [PSV] Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition (SIE, 03/19/15) – 4,227 (1,130,619)
- [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf Amiibo+ (Nintendo, 11/23/16) – 4,136 (150,355)
Moving on to hardware, whether through increased stock availability, increased marketing or a mix of both, the Nintendo Switch has gained a healthy chunk of sales to top the charts at 78,441 units. The New 3DS LL (XL) is still second ahead of the PS4, while the 2DS saw an increase too; the results are below with last week's sales in brackets.
- Switch – 78,441 (49,913)
- New 3DS LL – 29,771 (33,352)
- PlayStation 4 – 25,472 (28,805)
- PlayStation Vita – 7,574 (8,004)
- 2DS – 6,722 (6,131)
- PlayStation 4 Pro – 5,261 (5,823)
- PlayStation 3 – 2,930 (2,212)
- New 3DS – 2,866 (2,796)
- Wii U – 411 (368)
- Xbox One – 115 (135)
All told that's a decent set of results from a Nintendo perspective, with Switch and 3DS doing well in a quiet period.

I'm very glad Zelda sold better than Horizon: Zero Fun!
Go Ninty!
New stock. Great sales all-round for ninty. Switch has sold 519 thousand so far in Japan and still going strong. Overall first four weekends of sales after launch.
Wii U 627.287 thousand
3ds. 742.244 thousand
Switch 519.504 thousand
Japan sales only. Also it must be noted that switch sold more on its 4th weekend than wii u and 3ds. When stock is there it sells
Seems like more stock and the Splatoon testifire gave Switch sales a big boost.
The sales of Xbox in Japan still make me laugh. I also continue to find it interesting how weak the sales of PS4 Pro are there - consistently shifting far fewer copies than the Vita.
For the record Capcom is expecting about 2 million copies shipped by march 31st and sellthrough week 1 was around 80%
That figure includes digital sales BTW which are not tracked by media create.
So basically the game is doing more or less as Capcom expected. It's doing less because of it being a G version(4G did about 40% less in Japan compared to 4) and this is also the FIFTH main series Monster Hunter on 3DS and the fourth 4th gen game, That is more than any other system
lol look at the Wiiu version of Zelda,sold like crap.
If there's 1 region where I said the Switch will do well it's Japan. They lap up handhelds and crud like 1, 2 Switch..
Good to see Nintendo doing well in their home territory. Hopefully they can keep up this momentum going throughout the year... but I still think they need more games.
Yeah Wii U! I still love mine. I really love the switch, but it's going to be a long time from now before I ever stop playing the "U" aka GameCube 2.0!
@BionicDodo Japanese people prefer handhelds and more compact consoles. I guess that's one of the reasons for weak PS4 Pro-sales.
Selling great by my estimate. Nintendo needs to increase production ASAP
@Matti Unless that 'compact console' is an Xbox One S!
OMG... !
3 Hits in a row !
One, Switch is the TOP now. Beating PS4.
Two, New 3DS XL also beat PS4.
Three, LOL 2DS even beat PS4 Pro.
Go, Nintendo !
Keep this great momentum.
I wonder what would've happened if Capcom had a Monster Hunter game ready for the Switch at launch. They surely must be working on a MH for Switch, don't you think?
@G-Boy Why? Who cares?
Nice. That's encouraging to see.
@G-Boy To be fair, Horizon is actually quite fun. Not as fun as Breath of the Wild, but still fun.
I wasnt sure the switch was going to do well in japan because the device is a bit large. Happy i was wrong
@gatorboi352 Sales like these with only one major game out is very encouraging. The holidays are basically going to be another launch.
When Monster Hunter comes to the Switch Nintendo had better make sure they have enough consoles to sell. I can see more system sales then week one.
Hopefully this is enough to convince Nintendo that they need to court the hell out of Capcom to get a Monster Hunter on the Switch. Easy money.
Happy to see 1-2 Switch back on the Top 3. The game is ridiculously fun.
Monster Hunter and Nintendo Switch hmm.... These two should get together. C'mon Capcom.
@Anti-Matter
Don't see what that's got to do with anything. When you look at I that way, the Vita which is pretty much a dead machine sold more than 2ds, N3ds and ps4 pro, but it don't mean anything
@NintySnesMan Thanks. I was just about to post those figures.
I'm glad to see the strength of sales, of for no other reason to get developed working on games.
The west should benefit from the Switch selling well in Japan. We'll get more weirdo weeby games like the Vita did, but Wii U didn't.
@EternalDragonX
It's early days yet, but I like the results we've so far as well. I mentioned it over on PushSquare that it's very important for the industry that Switch can settles in the 80K range consistently. I really think if it doesn't do big numbers, Japanese developers over the next year or two will make the jump completely to mobile and you can kiss those bigger budgeted Japanese games for console goodbye. PS4, Xbox One and Wii U were unfortunately massive fails in the East, Switch is the last hope but at least it has a chance given the hybrid nature of the device.
Wow. Xbox not very popular in that part of the world!
@Dezzy
Hey.. Like vita did. It still does and many of them. Yes your right though the switch will benefit big time from Japanese games, it will get lots for sure
In the west
@G-Boy
I had horizon zero dawn for a week. I traded it in because cex were giving €52 cash. I got it in a bundle i bought. It's pretty cool and i fully intend to buy it again when the price is a bit more reasonable.
Gorilla games are imo one of the most talented developers out there right now.
Switch taking over the world bit by bit. It deserves no less. Most impressive piece of gaming hardware ever made.
@NintySnesMan
Ps vita has bunch of ZERO interest games in my opinion, compared with 3DS. Typical adult jrpg, typical **** adult games, typical boring anime to games like one piece/ dragon ball , typical boring realistic sports, typical Too Serious Looking games. Almost no Kiddie games, No insanity like Tomodachi Life, No Girlie games at all like Style Savvy, No Fun Looking games at all. Not worthy at all for me. Even PS One classics inside ps vita can't help me to buy ps vita. I would rather stick on PS2 since it still backward with PS1 plus I have TONS of interesting games on Japanese PS2.
While it's really nice to see Nintendo doing so well in Japan, I wish North America published their sales figures every week like this. Since it's the largest market, it would be more telling about the actual success of the system.
@KIRO
Later, xbox will be forgotten.
Bye bye xbox...
dat Switch rise, incredible, also so good to see Zelda doing well in the land of the rising sun
Super Bomberman R with the legs !
Is the Wii U $300 in Japan? Because if it is why buy that instead of a Switch?
@Equinox Funnily enough, I'm actually half tempted to buy an Xbox One S just because it's pretty much the cheapest UHD Blu-ray player on the market. My brain is telling me that the market for new physical mediums for movies is going to die though as Internet connections are getting fast enough to handle really high quality streaming.
@Anti-Matter
It doesn't matter if vita has games u like or don't like. Go back and read your first comment then read mine.. You was talking sales, then so was I. Don't change the goal posts and waffle on about software when you was clearly stating hardware sales. I used vita as a example to your comment. A counter if you like
And the Switchening continues to roll on. Easily my favorite console launch. Can't wait to see what Nintendo brings for E3.
Good thing Mario and Luigi (Luigi is doing all the work obviously) are making more stock! Keep it up! Wow, Horizon dropped off.
@Anti-Matter are you kidding me? So you consider dragons crown, god eater, persona, ragnorock, ni no kuni, final fantasy, tails series etc garbage games? 😂 don't be a fan boy.
So what you're telling me is localize monster hunter.
Awaits Monster Hunter Switch Announcement patiently
Nintendo sold 118,211 consoles in Japan last week, an increase of 25,651 (27.7%) consoles from the previous week.
They hold a 74% share of the Japanese market for the week, an increase of the 67.3% share they held last week.
Nintendo consoles also were the home for the top 3 games sold.
Great week in The Land of the Rising Sun.
@brutalpanda I'm sorry that your Switch got scratched. I don't think the dock is great, but I do believe the issue is more isolated than people make it out to be - or I'm just lucky, I don't know. Zelda runs much better than you make out though, it's rarely under 20fps. The Korok Forest is where it's worst. 900p might not be impressive if you compare it to a PS4 but the fact that it's all done on something a fraction of the size, that's insane. Gram for gram, the Switch is the most powerful games console ever made.
Minecraft is arguably keeping the Vita alive in Japan.
@Billsama
Here here!!! Love 1 2 Switch!
@faint
No...
I didn't mean that.
But ps vita has too much adult jrpg.
That means the games is too dark, too evil, too bloody, too satanish. I Hate Completely 1000%.
JRPG games that I ever played are Older Final Fantasy series (FF 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 10-2, 12), FF Tactics, Fantasy Life 3DS, Kingdom Hearts, Chocobo Dungeon Wii. Still waiting for Miitopia 3DS English version.
Not really interested with Ni no Kuni.
HATES all Demonic / Sadistic rpg games.
No Compromise at all with those ****.
@BionicDodo
Ya, I didn't even bother with Ultra HD bluray. Streaming is where it's at now. Netflix offers 4K and other services, can always rent from Amazon or VUDU as well
@Spoony_Tech This is true of a lot of the games coming ! Monster Hunter and Splatoon will boost the SWITCH sales figures right up!
I'm excited for the future!
@JaxonH
I don't like video streaming except Youtube.
For me as a Non Movie holic, I like to watch my favorite movies with traditional way : Standard DVD or Blu Ray + DVD / Blu Ray player. I don't expect 3D or whatever since i'm not impressed by the WOW aspect. Call me an Old grandpa but I prefer having a retail copies rather than streaming but no item possessions.
@thesilverbrick Actually China is the largest video game market.
@Nintendoforlife you are correct
@Matti They also don't care about graphics, like at all, compared to Western gamers. The Pro caters to Western gamers in my opinion.
@Anti-Matter well that's what we call personal taste. The 3ds has games like this too. They are well crafted even if you don't like them.
@G-Boy
Have you actually played HZD? I'm currently playing BotW, which is amazing, but I'm super stoked to make Horizon my next game. I've heard great things!
@faint @Nintendoforlife China may have the largest number of consumers, but what I was actually referring to was the fact that North America is Nintendo's current largest market. Government restrictions in China prevent Nintendo from selling the Switch there like they do everywhere else.
@Nintendoforlife
China may the the greatest PC video game market by quantity of players but it sure as hell ain't the biggest console market.
Seeing the Switch is a console and not even bring sold in China (and XboxOne sales there not exactly astronomical), I don't really get that argument.
Also it is the income generated from console gaming that makes America the biggest console market. Chinese games are almost all pirated although they make the most money, which is amazing.
Biggest overall markets according to analysts: China, US, Japan.
368 of them bought a Wii-U! Ah bless.
These are good sales figures, not great but good. How comes the Famicom isn't selling there?
@Anti-Matter
When I was a teenager, I wanted hard copies of CDs, but eventually I just stopped caring. Digital music library is just way more convenient. Then in my early twenties I wanted a real, physical DVD collection, but once again, I just got to a point I quit caring. Games are the only thing I insist on physical.
Streaming is like a rental. I don't care about owning movies. I just wanna watch em once, and that's it. Which means a rental is in order. And that's what streaming provides.
@Nico87 Yeah, that's another reason. Japanese gamers are smart, they care about gameplay and fun, not 4K and who gets the most frames-pre-second.
@Hotfusion China edges us just barely in gaming revenue, so what's your point.
@thesilverbrick Ahh thanks for clarifying.
@Equinox If the Scorpio does not take hold I see them just wanting to focus on the PC market place and being a games publisher (they might just sell the entire Xbox division). Microsoft has never really made a profit on the brand so I do not seem them continuing this if the Scorpio does mediocre to poorly. I mean just being a publisher would make sense for them because Halo and Gears of War do sell very well and the Rare IPs have been successful commercially if critically mixed.
@thesilverbrick
China is the worst place to experience wonderful video games like 3DS or Switch.
Most Chinese gamers playing like a Zombie, until there were some bad news about Players founded died by playing online pc games nonstop for 3-4 days. What a dumb people to play like that, even worse they use pirated games. That's not a Gaming paradise. That's a Zombie Gaming Nightmare. Stupid Chinese government with stupid restrictions. They keep telling to Chinese citizens to not accepting foreign things so easily. I felt ashamed to be a half Indonesian-Chinese people.
@Wexter
In my opinion, xbox is much like a Party crasher between duel of Nintendo vs Sony.
@JaxonH
Well, even I am not a Movie holic but when I like certain movies, I want to collect them. Even mostly being a placeholder, I will keep it clean and tidy. So, I can replay them again even without online services.
@Robotron2084
Sorry for my poor English.
Read my profile.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE not to mention they worship Nintendo
@SanderEvers There will be riots in Japan if Switch gets a Monster Hunter game with there being a shortage of Switch units available.
In other news, Mario Maker on the 3DS has sold over 1m in Japan. Good result for a game which I doubt took much effort to put out there.
More stock= more sales. Definitely an encouraging sign.
@BanjoPickles I've seen gameplay from it, and it looks like just the kind of game that I don't like.
You see those low sales for Switch games? Most of the new owners weren't buying games. They were playing Splatoon.
@Octane I'm glad it didn't sell better because I want Breath of the Wild to sell as great as possible. Nintendo has been going through some really hard times lately. I don't think it was easy for them when Iwata-sama left this world, and I really want them to succeed...
Also, this may sound ridiculous, but my hate of the PS4 is another reason for my opinion of this game.
The people that worked at the youth club near my school was going to buy a Wii U in 2015 after I talked about the great multiplayer games you could play on it (they wanted a console with many games of that kind). They seemed to like the concept of the console until the 10-year old CoD kids in my school and the bad reviews of it convinced them to buy a PS4 instead. I was very surprised and disappointed in them for doing that (especially because they already had a Wii), and it didn't help that I started seeing more and more PS4 commercials in my city after that, so I've always had a grudge against that console since then. I've always felt like the only things people want in games nowadays are violence, hyper-realistic graphics and guns, and I've always hated FPS games too (which always are playable on the PS4), so that's another reason.
I was so happy when the Switch sold 1.5 million units, and I still hope that the people at the youth club will buy a Switch before I leave the school it's connected to.
Very nice. They need to send NS consoles over here, though. Best Buys across the nation have copies of BotW gathering dust, unable to be sold because the consoles are sold out. The Best Buy across the street from where I work has 51 homeless copies just sitting there camping out, with no home to go to.
Give these games a home, Nintendo!
@G-Boy Ya, because we're on a Nintendo site, and some of the people here rather see the entire industry, except for Nintendo, burn down so that only Nintendo survives...
It's a great game, if you had played it you would know. It's a new IP and it's doing great sales wise, and that's always a good thing for the industry. In fact, I'd encourage people to try out new games, that way we won't get the same thing rehashed over and over again.
@G-Boy You know, Sony really screwed Guerilla over by launching Horizon at the same time Zelda was launching. It's not fair to match an established legendary (literally) IP against a new one, in the same genre. That's traditionally called "sending it out to die." It's a testament to Guerilla's work that it sold as well as it did.
@BionicDodo
I'd recommend it. Unless you have an incredibly fast internet connection 4k Blu-ray is the best way to watch a film. Depends how important that is to you but the difference from 1080p is surprisingly clear. Plus the Xbox has a few decent games as a bonus.
@thesilverbrick you can buy an Xbox or a PS4 there. They lifted the ban on consoles two years ago.
@Mahe
Seems like people are more excited for the Switch's future software than current software. Can't say that's a bad thing.
@Billsama Of course it's back in the top 3. This is par for the course on their definition of fun:
@PlywoodStick wow. It that a recent pic. Here we have nothing except boxes of splatoon 2. Super Mario oddysse, arms and Mario kart 8 all with a sticker "coming soon"
image hoster
GAME UK
@PlywoodStick Well, I brought it on the west and I think Is fun. As well as the people I played with. So when you say "they" I guess you are referring to humans as a whole.
@UK-Nintendo Pics I took myself a couple days ago.
That's pathetic to see PS4 selling so low despite the amount of games it's been getting lately.
@Billsama How many places do you know that have cockroach blowing contests?
@G-Boy aw, don't be like that. I plan on getting that game in July for my birthday. By then, I should be done with Zelda.
@Anti-Matter beating PS4 in sales a few weeks in is fine but overall, the PS4 is over 40 million worldwide. If it is a competition (which it shouldn't be considered) , the Switch has a way to go. I love mine but it technically hasn't beat anything ... yet.
@PlywoodStick Irrelevant, since I'm talking about 1-2 Switch.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE - What's really fortunate for Nintendo haters like yourself, is that you can call the Switch a handheld or a console to more conveniently shape your negativity and nitpicks.
It's not a console, it's a handheld! - When discussing positive sales in Japan.
It's not a handheld, it's a console! - When discussing processor power and technical limitations.
I have to admit that I was wrong about 1-2-Switch. I didn't expect it to sell well at all (and I'm talking about 2% or so attach rate) instead 25% of Switch owners are picking it up.
I can easily see this topping 1m sales globally (which is respectable in anyone's book)
Awesome to see the Switch maintaining speed so far in Japan, as well as Monster Hunter and Zelda, and Horizon doing good. Nier looks to have seriously slowed down, but those total sales are nice for a console game in Japan.
What's less awesome is seeing such a blatant fanboy remark immediately upon getting into the comment section, and how so many seem to like it. It's a shame that video games make some people so insecure about their preferences that they feel the need to put down other games in order to justify their own opinions more.
Go switch go!!
@Action51 To be fair, Nintendo has exhibited the same sort of "it's this, it's that" indecision regarding the marketing for NS, and Nintendo fans have followed suit along the way. "It's a home console you can take with you on the go! No, wait, it's a high powered portable console, and it can't be directly compared with the competition, because it's not strictly a home console!"
So which is it?
@greengecko007 Well said.
@G-Boy You didn't like Horizon Zero dawn?? Why?
@PlywoodStick
Both
@greengecko007 👍🏻
@Action51 "What's really fortunate for Nintendo haters like yourself"
Stopped right there. You're clueless. I don't hate Nintendo, I love Nintendo. I hate some of their decisions though.
@Mahe or buying digital....
@greengecko007
What a great comment with your last part. Completely agree, well said
If more and more people are going digital, would that in turn mean each console sale means more for the company then the last?
I wonder.....
@G-Boy What's your beef with H:ZD?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE No, @Action51 has formed an opinion based upon a significant volume of evidence. Clues, if you will. Lots of them.
@Octane
Absolutely! As much as I love Nintendo, gamers who game based on loyalty are severely missing out! Legend of Zelda, Yakuza, Horizon Zero Dawn, Persona 5, Nioh, Dark Souls, Splatoon 2, the next Mario, whatever ends up coming down the 3DS pipeline, the upcoming Red Dead sequel, Last of Us 2....So many great games! What I'm really excited about is E3, which will determine whether or not I buy a Switch in the foreseeable future (I'm doing BotW on Wii U).
@BanjoPickles Indeed! Variety is always good.
Anyway, I'm in the same boat. BOTW on Wii U, and awaiting E3. But I'll probably get the Switch for Mario Odyssey anyway...
Monster hunter switch!
@PanurgeJr To be honest the evidence that @Action51 states in his opinion isn't really that significant. He just said that there are Switch "naysayers" who flip the Switch, when something like power and sales come to mind. Not saying something like that doesn't happen, but I found your comment on "significant volume of evidence" was a bit over exaggerated in my opinion. The only thing he stated is that their are people aren't giving the Switch a fair shot, when the only thing he had stated was just his opinion and hypothesis with no concrete evidence to back up the claim.
@AlwaysGreener You have misidentified what I was saying he had evidence of, which is Sligeacheire's critical and negative nature.
@electrolite77 Wait... So it's both a home console you can take on the go, and a portable console that isn't comparable to the dedicated home consoles? You can't have it both ways. Either it's a home console (and thus comparable) or it's not.
@PanurgeJr To be fair, though, those who are zealously positive about Nintendo do exactly the same thing, except mirrored.
"It's focused on being a portable console, you can't directly compare it the competition!" - when discussing the lower power of NS, espousing it's role as a portable console
"Frame rates and resolution aren't important, the only thing that's important is whether or not it's fun!" - when espousing the viability of the NS in the role of a home console
Lots of people try to twist the narrative to fit their particular vision. Negative viewpoints are just easier targets of criticism than positive viewpoints.
@PanurgeJr I understand that Sligeach is annoying and probably would do as what @Action51 had stated in his opinion, but I just found your #112 comment was a bit overkill when explaining how much evidence he really had. I'm not trying to be "That Guy", but he does have the right to speak his mind whether it's fact or opinion, even if it's critically negative.
@PlywoodStick
"Wait... So it's both a home console you can take on the go, and a portable console that isn't comparable to the dedicated home consoles?"
Yes.
"You can't have it both ways." I don't see why not. You're trying to impose rules that it's one or the other when it's both. Switch is a relatively underpowered home console and a relatively powerful gaming handheld in one.
"Either it's a home console (and thus comparable) or it's not." It is. It's also a handheld. Obviously.
@greengecko007
Totally agree. Multi-format gaming FTW (as we used to say on the internet).
@electrolite77 We know it's a hybrid, but sometimes, people use certain phrases and epithets to downplay weaknesses and highlight strengths. (Or vice versa.) Many people are taught to do this in all aspects of life, so it may be second nature for them, but I think it's more even handed to highlight both real strengths and weaknesses.
For example, the NS is possibly the easiest console to port towards in history, as proven by Snake Pass. That's a huge strength that completely circumvents the specs discussion. On the other hand, significant sacrifices may need to be made to make the same game playable on NS compared to PS4/XB1, also proven by Snake Pass. I'm just saying NS should be comparable to other platforms, we can't escape that just because NS has a portable aspect (in more ways than one).
Don't have time to read this whole comments section, but have we talked about Ireland yet?
I don't understand the hate for Xbox in Japan 🇯🇵
I used to believe that they didn't want American products, yet they buy the iPhone like crazy and its American products. This is sad the original Xbox and X360 were great systems.
@Meaty-cheeky
I think this is like how does UK gamers treat Nintendo. Japanese gamers don't like xbox while UK gamers don't like Nintendo. Totally opposite.
@G-Boy Is it an absolute necessity to bash a game to make another look great?
@PlywoodStick Most Best Buy stores in my area got more copies of Zelda than they had Switches. One in particular I know got more than double their Switch launch allotment, we're talking a couple hundred extra. They're probably making sure that there's enough Zelda to go around ahead of Switch restocks, it makes some kind of sense. Pack faster, Luigi! Mario, stop being surprised and help your bro!
I always wonder who in Japan is actually buying Xboxes.
@G-Boy
Horizon's an awesome game. Fortunately I don't suffer from corporate slavery so I don't bash games I have no intention of playing. Having played both, I can see why many would prefer Zelda but I can also see why some would choose Horizon. In the end, anybody who is an actual gamer and not a fanboy/girl, should give both a try.
I guess they're not gonna make any more Deus Ex games
@EngieBengie
Yes it is. How else would somebody be able to enjoy their console or game of choice without bashing the competition?
@3MonthBeef Lol, I've been going to this site for about two years, it's just now that I've made an account. I know that something like that is regular thing on this site, but I guess I can't stand hyperbole when it isn't really needed.
@3MonthBeef I don't examine every little detail in the comment, but I do read the articles, since I actually trust this site (most of the time) with it's news, mainly to see what's new with the Big N. I don't want sound like i'm offended or anything, but what do you mean by "...we've gotten to get a fair handle of you spouts some out there comments." I was just making an observation with his rhetoric. And who almost banned who?
Xbox one having a lean patch in Japan at the moment?
@faint to those excellent games I'll add, Odin Sphere, Ultimate marvel vs Capcom 3, Toukiden 2, Muramasa rebirth, Soldier X2, Fate extella the umbral star, oh I can keep going.
Let's be real here. The PS Vita has well over a thousand games. It has some fantastic titles. Only a fanboy wouldn't be able to find something of interest on it.
Monster Hunter and Switch in the same title gave me an excitement heart attack.
@Alpha008 Yep,more of a lean decade than a patch though.
@3MonthBeef Yeah, I do that to sometimes when i'm texting something really fast. I see what you're saying and thank you for giving more background on the situation.
@Octane Nintendo would have been bombarded with a very large angry mob of Monster Hunter fans, myself included. Imagine launching Monster Hunter 5, this game will sell millions, but no one would be able to get a switch to play it.... that would make sooo many people angry! haha Better for MH5 to launch in the winter when it normally does. That way Nintendo will finally have plenty of Switch stock to go around and Nintendo doesn't create a huge mob of angry fans! .
@TsukiDeity Yeah ok, stock issues aside.. a holiday release in that case. We haven't heared anything from Capcom, so I think it won't happen this year.
Hmmmmm if Xbone was a more attractive product in Japan - it would detract significantly from PS4 sales but not form SWITCH sales. . . . PS4 would probably be around 15,000 with Bone around 10,000 units -
SWITCH is doing really well in week 4!
@BionicDodo the Japanese are graphics whores but i guess they aren't 4.6 tflops much.
@Danrenfroe2016 they are. But demand is through the roof
@OGGamer
Yeah mate it has many great games
I would add Salt&Sanctuary, if Tearaway was on switch it would sell in the millions,it's a perfect fit for switch and it reminds me of something Nintendo would make. Like u said there are many games on vita worth buying. I myself are looking forward to Valkirye Revolution made by Sega and Oceanhorn the zelda clone sort off,also Rainbow Skies and the new ip made by Sony they announced this week,no name or info what it is but it has me interested. It's been a few years since Sony stopped making games for it,so i can't wait to see the new ip after their u-turn,if and its a big if it sells loads then they will carry on making games for it. Tbh I am more than happy with all the Japanese games that come our way and many great Indies that are constantly been released,sort of reminds me of how the switch will pan out,only switch will get much support from Ninty and rightly so.
I still find it amazing that anyone is buying a brand new wii u over getting a switch. the mind boggles!
@lemonjellydude
Why is that amazing? If they want to play games rather than caress the console, then the choice is right. So many great games out on Wii U. Only good game on Switch is available on Wii U as well. Besides... one choice doesn't rule out the other at a later point. I myself am playing FF12 on PS2 at the moment. While waiting for a better library on Switch you might as well clear some things on the to-do list even though that very list was created in the last century.
@lemonjellydude I am more amazed how well the PSVita is still selling and how totally retarded it is from Sony to have dropped 1st Party support for it.
@Jeronan
Yep have to agree with that,dropping support for it was ridiculous just so they could concentrate on ps4 and psvr. I still use my Vita mainly for Japanese games. Funny thing about this the vita is doing better than psvr at the moment even though it pretty much a dead machine
@NintySnesMan Exactly. I really love my Vita. It's a great handheld console to have.
@G-Boy
Comment of the day, Not.
@AlwaysGreener I think the one who almost got banned was subpopz. The reason for that wasn't just because of something innocuous like 3monthbeef is suggesting, though. It was because subpopz was literally hounding and gossiping negatively about Sligeach in nearly every single damn article that he appeared in. Which can be considered a form of flaming or abusive behavior. But of course the guy completely denies that he did anything wrong. A number of people were making Sligeach into the community piñata, but subpopz was easily one of the most persistent about it.
For whatever it's worth, the "ignore" function is a result of long running problematic situations like that. It was a long time coming, and should help ease some tensions, but I'll never use it. I feel like it's kind of cowardly to hide other people's thoughts just because my tiny little brain can't understand someone else's thought processes. Knowing how the function came to fruition, using it would give a bad taste in my mouth.
@Aneira just my opinion, the fact theres a new console out for the same price as an aging system that most developers have now abandoned it seems odd to get one. but each to there own
I would just like to point out that Super Mario Maker for 3DS has now passed the 1 million mark in Japan. A big raspberry to all of those who claimed it would bomb because it was an inferior port that no one wanted.
@Jeronan I absolutely love my PS Vita, but I also understand why Sony stopped producing AAA games for it. The ones that they did produce sold below expectations. They also discovered (like Nintendo) that it is really expensive to try and support two separate systems in the modern game market. Thus, they decided to focus 100% on fighting Microsoft for the HD game market and let the Vita be serviced by Japanese third parties and indie developers.
Having said that, the Vita is now over 5 years old and new games are still releasing in the US almost every week. Most are indie games or also have a PS4 version, but I am still happy to be getting those games. Ys VIII on Vita is my most anticipated game this year (so far).
I fully expect that eventually Sony will announce a portable version of the PS4 (with a dock) to try and compete with Switch for the portable game machine market.
@PlywoodStick @Octane @NintySnesMan @Gamer83 @EngieBengie @JudgeMethos
Sorry if I came off wrong. I've edited my comment.
@RatKing64 - Nah, I think Sony is done with the handheld or even handheld hybrid market.
Sony has been selling their video game brand as all AAA and "moar powah plz" since the launch of the PS4 and now the PS4 Pro.
If this were still the era before the smart phone, I'd tend to agree, but I think Sony is more likely to try and sell streaming services for your portable devices than actually jump back into portable hardware.
@PlywoodStick Let's just agree that the Switch is garbage.
@TwilightOniAngel If "sold like crap" means making into the top10, then I don't know what good sales numbers would be.
@PlywoodStick After quick search through some comments I found the one you're talking about. And yeah, subpopz was gossiping and hounding the guy. At least I got here both sides of the story, thank you for that.
@WiltonRoots yep, that is one of the highlights of this... great for 3DS and Mario Maker, but not mentioned for some reason. Glad the Switch is such a big hit.
@dumedum probably because some people in here were slamming it and considered it a pointless port, obviously Japanese 3DS owners didn't hear their concerns.
Curious to know how it's doing globally.
@Anti-Matter good point
