It's time, once again, for the Media Create chart results out of Japan; they give as an idea of what's connecting with the Japanese gaming market and what is ultimately falling short.

Kicking off with software, Monster Hunter XX (Double Cross) remains at number one in its second week, passing one million retail sales in the process. Though it's not matching its predecessors, considering the volume of remix releases for the series in Japan this is arguably a reasonable sales performance.

Amazingly there are no new releases in the top 20, with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided arriving in Japan last week but failing to make the top 20. We have good momentum for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and 1-2-Switch in the top two spots, with Pokémon Sun and Moon the highest in the 3DS stakes in sixth place. Results are below with lifetime sales in brackets.

  1. [3DS] Monster Hunter XX (Capcom, 03/16/17) – 280,293 (1,128,760)

Moving on to hardware, whether through increased stock availability, increased marketing or a mix of both, the Nintendo Switch has gained a healthy chunk of sales to top the charts at 78,441 units. The New 3DS LL (XL) is still second ahead of the PS4, while the 2DS saw an increase too; the results are below with last week's sales in brackets.

  1. Switch – 78,441 (49,913)

  8. New 3DS – 2,866 (2,796)
  9. Wii U – 411 (368)
  10. Xbox One – 115 (135)

All told that's a decent set of results from a Nintendo perspective, with Switch and 3DS doing well in a quiet period.
