I'm suffering through the extremely slow performance of this site to say that the WiiWare RCR was one of the service's best games, and if this game to NX it would be an insta buy.
Wow, great. Now it looks like every other recent site. Like those click bait sites with a dozen articles about 'one crazy trick to cure blackheads' and 'these prom pictures are INSANE wait till you see picture 8'. Also, the home page now seriously bogs down my computer. I'm on an actual computer, using a recent Firefox build. Very disappointing change.
So I assume they have ongoing maintenance with it to keep up with changes Google makes to Google Maps/Streetview as a whole? Which is understandable. Except didn't I pay $4.99 for this thing? I really don't know what I'll do when digital games take over the whole industry. The idea that they'd just turn off software you buy is disconcerting. Then again, while I liked some of the tricks they built with this app, it never did load/navigate as fast as you wanted. Not sure where the performance bottleneck was.
He's wrong. The Virtual Boy was more exciting at the time of its launch than Oculus is now. In 20 years they'll be saying Oculus wasn't really VR because it didn't simulate scent, haptic feedback, or telepathic control. Then in another 20 years they'll be saying suspension in a pool of ferrous silicon liquid is required for "real" VR.
Awesome company that deserves the following it's built. Yes, a Nintendo money-hat Vanquish 2 would be awesome. I want Wonderful 201 on NX. And obviously Star Fox is a day one purchase for every serious WiiU fan.
The text of this review sounds like maybe a soft 8. The number score is a 9. Hmm. And no one thinks that mirror mode "effectively doubles tracks". Unless they have a real warm place in their heart already for the game.
Wow, surprised to see this on the eShop. This was one of my fave GBA games. Better than DS version. I really hope it comes out in the US eShop. Insta buy.
Seriously, it took an email from a reader to alert Nintendo Life to this?
Wow.
OK, here's another "hot tip". The audio mixing is terrible when a loud song with lyrics plays during a voiced cut scene. This is when using a stereo TV's built in speakers. Maybe all the dev's developed the game with 5.1 simulator headphones.
I expect Jools is reading these comments. I always appreciated how much he shared on his blog in the old days and in interviews now. Mutant Mudds on WiiU was entertaining. Needed a couple more enhancements to movement and animation, but it was good. Now then. About the latest releases. Moon Chronicles's episodic rollout was a media nightmare. Further, games are way too advanced, and too many people have played HD FPSs at this point, for the level of detail in Moon Remastered and Dementium Remastered to cut it. They just don't make the grade, graphically. Not that I want to play an FPS on the 3DS. But if I did, RE Revelations has set the bar (I that's not technically first person, but it's close). So do something you can master. Perhaps Totes the Goat is that.
Having any ads in a Nintendo game is below them (NINTENDO). Having Mercendes ads in particular is annoying as someone firmly middle class and far from ever buying a new Mercedes.
Seriously... what the heck are they thinking? Look, we have heard enough devs say at this point that 'off screen play is easy' to know that it basically built in to the WiiU SDK. So the fact you support that is no great shake. What I and I'd guess everyone else ASSUMED is that you'd be bringing something unique and improved to this experience. Namely display of the inventory and maybe a map. ARE YOU IDIOTS?
Good gracious it's hilarious seeing some of you deride this as being the "big news". Do you have ANY idea how much bigger Minecraft is than ANY Nintendo property?
As far as the price premium, that's what happens with new platforms. They want to pay off the development price. It will obviously be on sale later. Plus, IF the gamepad interface is excellent, that could warrant some upgrade over the other console versions.
Speaking for myself, I'm well aware of the "divide" that's occurred with the HM franchise, and I am willing to give Natsume credit to see how the first few Harvest Moon games developer under their sole direction. Let's not assume that they as publisher had no creative input on the old games. Let's not assume they didn't study the sales and reception of each game and learned what elements resonate. For what it's worth, the promotional art for this game is dead-on with the classic HM style.
Just done with the first five levels on the Wii version. Haven't tried the WiiU version yet because the Wii one is the game I've been waiting YEARS to play. It's GREAT! Funny, too. Very fun. A LOT like a sonic (including sonic adventure 1 with the guided booster sections) nights in to dreams hybrid. The Wii version is super good.
I think it's sad that development houses are losing identity, and you can't say 'this is a Beenox game' and you can't watch a developer change and evolve over time through it's games. Unless and until they are on the brink of bankruptcy and the company dissolves with the most talented and driven spinning up indie games that basically reset the clock.
Looks terrible. I was they just gave us a grand, HD, full gamepad support (great inventory management, pattern design, mini games, PLUS off screen play mode), larger village, tons of new furniture, high quality music, etc. On WiiU. But no.
It's a wonderful new sidebar in the history of video games that one of these still exists to take high res photos of and see in use. A good outcome for game enthusiasts. One can only imagine the treasures that are still held in secret at Nintendo's HQ.
I'm going to kinda agree with a few others in the thread and say that the promotion window has just been too long. And the company has been somewhat annoying with the drip feed. "first ever screen shot tomorrow... err next week... err in six months..." I'm not reading any more about the game until it's launched.
I'll throw in my two cents. I've seen some decidedly amateur-hour writing from the vaunted Treehouse over the last few years. And yes, the "voice" of the writing that doesn't sit right with me is usually that of someone tapped in to Internet-style humor. Straight-up direct references are even worse. Fewer people seem to be looking for games to be a timeless statement, and that deterioration has now infected the developer itself.
The ONLY "full" game I've bought digitally on WiiU is Splatoon, because it is inherently digital and because the file size wasn't crazy.
I play old games. I do not county on all the current WiiU digital-retail games still being available digitally in 20 years. And 20 years isn't that crazy long ago for games these days. Furthurmore, Nintendo was insane only giving the WiiU 32 GB of space (not counting a somewhat large fraction used by the OS) and thinking retail downloads would go over well.
Fatal Frame, based on filesize, and to a lesser extent perceived limited replay value, was a terrible choice to make digital-only.
I'm hopeful for this game. I don't know how the hardcore fighting fans will rank this, but at least based on the backgrounds and character models and effects, I totally love the look of it. Probably gonna get it.
"Seems to me that many reviewers are marking the game down significantly according to personal preferences rather than quality and/or execution of the game design." Most reviews have given up the illusion that video games are largely based on objective observations. And that's a good thing!
The Dijkstra comment is basically trolling- when it was originally made and when it was reposted here. This software is incredible and one of the most worthy projects on Nintendo's store. It's basically certain that this is going to turn on some young people to a new and useful skill that they wouldn't have considered before. Way to go smileboom for keeping this software going!
An official site with the purpose of selling more content should not itself have ads for toothpaste! CHEAP! How much could this possibly earn Nintendo in revenue? The ONLY ads I would tolerate would be for games/movies actually being sold within the store.
I'm going to agree that the narrator of these videos doesn't work for me in the least. The actual content of episode 1 and this one, though, is superb and I'm counting the hours until release.
What's funny in considering the remarks from Yamauchi about the cart format encouraging quality software is last gen, wasn't the Wii by far and away the greatest source for trash shovelware?
Should have made a friggin actual Wii U AC. HD graphics, ability to share the town with siblings / significant others like the earlier ACs. Bigger village, more dialog, new furniture. WHY didn't they just do that???? NO STUPID MARIO PARTY GAME, EITHER!
Something about the update isn't quite right. It didn't detect I had cleared the campaign, despite the fact that my first file has a big orange CLEAR! on it. I had to run the "Secret Code" to unlock the new campaign. My guess is the code was actually cooked up as a quick workaround while the debug the issue with the supposed automatic unlocking after completion.
Basically all of the reviews now out for this game make a point to describe its troubled development process. This brings the overall tone and score (when assigned) in to question. I think (really, I'm sure) reviewers get caught up in an industry-wide narrative for some games, and the narrative for this one was it's going to suck, and suck hard. I'll probably still be buying this day one.
They really, really fumbled over the Devil's Third release in America- the E3 silent treatment, and the clarification later. But looking past that, assuming Mario Tennis doesn't get bumped in to Jan - Feb, this is a great selection of new WiiU games to play over Christmass break. In 2016, add Zelda and SMTxFE, plus a surprise or two most likely, and I think the WiiU can retire with a fairly good amount of original Nintendo-published games to its credit. (many missed opportunities, yes, but overall not a disaster with some awesome nerd-audience success like W101 Bayo2, Star Fox, Xeno 2, more)
