In honour of Super Mario's 30th Anniversary, Nintendo of America has released a neat 'Special Interview' video featuring Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka talking about development of the original Super Mario Bros. and also Super Mario Maker.
Though the bulk of the video is from a modern day appearance, there are some neat snippets at the start and end of an old Nintendo VHS in which both designers appear. The overall video gives a nice insight into the processes that went into creating the Famicom / NES original.
Check it out below.

Very very cool video I reacted to it too!
Wow great video! Man i would have loved to see that 80s footage when I was a kid back then.
Nice video!
The dub completely ruins this. : / I hope Nintendo of Europe will upload a subtitled version.
Nice video! Now I want to get Super Mario Maker!
And there's more proof that Nintendo is one of a kind.
Has some great advise for aspiring game designers! I will definitely have to keep this video in mind when making my game! Thanks Miyamoto!
that was pretty good, i wonder what Super Mario Bros would have been if they use some of that stuff via Super Mario Maker (with out the editor tool tho)
I love how at the very end he bows to the camera just like they do today in their commercials and directs.. that shows me that they hold on to tradition. so cool
Great share.
Inspiring video. And such a delight to see a younger Miamoto... if only he knew then what his creation would go on to become.
@Siskan
Here's the original version from Nintendo of Japan's YouTube channel. No subtitle though.

Wow, loved it, thanks NL.
@Aozz yeah the Smash Bros level creator is trash in comparison to Mario Maker
That was a cool video. Very interesting.
Thanks for sharin' such a fun, insightful video! Really enjoyed watching that.
We seriously need more games like this. Racing games create your own tracks. Imagine an Etrian Odyssey where you could create dungeons to upload to your friends. In my opinion this is the next level of gaming. Why wouldn't it be? It's a totally new and refreshing innovation. All of these create and plays should include online friend trading.
A couple years back Atlus came out with a RPG where you totally create the dungeon and could share your dungeon over local WiFi on the Nintendo DS. They blew it by doing it over local WiFi instead of the internet. The game was called Master of the Monster Lair. Now there have been a quite a few Racing games where you could make your own tracks and upload them to friends. All 3 Titles were brilliant. Grid, Create and Race and TrackMania. All 3 allowed sharing over the internet. I hope we start getting create game from more genres too. Mario Creator is going to be a huge hit.
@Windy
I'm just hoping someone out there realises the potential for a dungeons and dragons type game and gets it made now. I am sure a lot of people thought about the gamepad being used for the dungeon and master and other controllers for the players.
That young Miyamoto.
