Re: Review: Dot Arcade (Wii U eShop)

TTGlider

My take on the font of the score (this font is also used when you hold plus or minus to break out of a game and return to the main menu) is it's going for a "debug menu" type feel, intentionally breaking the "fourth wall". If not, then yes, they should have maid a stacked filament type font or something.

Re: Nintendo Download: 26th March (North America)

TTGlider

Just bought Dot Arcade and played for 20 minutes. Not bad. Kinda cool. Could use a couple more modes as a free update. I could see a dollar per mode considering the overhead and small market. I like the way the games use the brightness of the dat in addition to color. Also never played a snake with falling environmental collisions or wrap around.

Re: Review: Shantae And The Pirate's Curse (Wii U eShop)

TTGlider

I'd probably go 8 for this. The item selection on the gamepad is awkward to hit during boss fights, and for the premium price, the reused pixel art is a little disappointing. And I think there were one too many blind jumps to be comfortable with a 9. Plus, there is some backtracking, and with the way enemies respawn, it's a little tedious. But it's still really good overall, and has great music.

Re: Review: Tengami (Wii U eShop)

TTGlider

I debated on the price but finally just bought this. It needs Wii Pointer controls for two glaring reasons. 1) the art is nice and I'd rather play on my TV than the WiiU's pad. 2) the pointer controls navigate faster and more naturally for me than tapping the pad. I'll wait a little while for the second half of the campaign to allow for the potential update.

Re: Review: Tetrobot & Co (Wii U eShop)

TTGlider

I just bought this and played through the first world. I'm loving it. It taps into the simple but satisfying vibe of the Toki Tori remake back on WiiWare. And the control works awesome with the Wiimote since it seems it was designed around a mouse and a left click. And its polish is on the high end by eshop standards.

Re: Developer of Retro City Rampage Explains, Again, Why a Wii U Release Won’t Be Happening

TTGlider

I bought it for WiiWare, beat it, downloaded the DX update (AWESOME of him to do), played some of the update. Yup, I love this game. I don't mind too much that it's not coming to WiiU because the graphics wouldn't really be much different in 720p and I probably wouldn't launch it too much since I thoroughly beat it on Wii. If anything, I'd like Nintendo to upgrade the Wii Mode to launch in to specific Wii Channels or the Wii Disc, rather than just booting the Wii menu.

Re: Review: Watch Dogs (Wii U)

TTGlider

Just beat it with about 40 hours logged and only a handful of sidemissions done so far. This is one AWESOME game. The gamepad map was useful but for long sessions I find the pro controller more comfortable. There are a number of aspects in WD that I think are better than GTA 5, for example in the density of interactive objects, and the variety of side missions / mini games. And the entire final mission and epilogue explores the "main character is a madman seeking justice that ends up on a killing rampage" supposed "paradox" that many reviews harp on. In fact the game presents a way for the player to "reconcile" that with a sort of demonstration of character growth in the final minutes of the game. Any other hardcore Nintendo fan that isn't going to get an Xbone or PS4 soon should by WD for their WiiU and experience this fun techy pulp adventure. And the online modes are really, really intense (when both parties are in the spirit of it, which has been the case in my sessions (over 50 so far) more often than not)

Re: Review: Watch Dogs (Wii U)

TTGlider

Totally off base score, penalizing the game by comparing it to release dates and frame rates on other platforms that the reader may not even have. Don't you already have Digital Foundry to take care of the multi platform comparisons? In isolation of other platforms, this is easily an 8. Considering the dearth of similar games as this on the WiiU, I think a 9 wouldn't be shocking.

Re: Video: How Does Watch Dogs Wii U Compare To The Xbox 360 And PS4 Versions?

TTGlider

I've read the DF comparison article from yesterday/today. As usual, IMHO, they give far too little weight to the Wii U version having zero screen tearing, while the other versions tear constantly. Yes, I can feel that the frame rate is a big juddery when I play WD on the WiiU, but I must say that from a gameplay stance, the difference is far less important in this game than in AC 4, for example. And I don't get why the author of the DF piece spent time drawing so many comparisons between the U edition and the PS4. OF COURSE the PS4 trounces the U.

Re: Watch Dogs

TTGlider

I am absolutely loving this game on Wii U. The map is useful for clearing out the collectibles and it supports tapping to set waypoints and fast travel points. And the framerate feels better to me than Black Flag on Wii U did. I'm glad I kept my preorder for this. Really cool game, Ubi!

Re: Video: Early Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric Footage Hints At Game-Breaking Bugs

TTGlider

I watched the video without audio, but it looked like he was trying to glitch through the wall. And the framerate only takes a hit in two player, supposedly? Well, I'm having fun in Hyrule Warriors two player, so this is little different. What I'm more concerned about in the video is the fairly bland environment within the levels. But I'll probably still get the game this week. I really like platforming.

Re: Wii U Version of Watch Dogs to Miss Out on DLC

TTGlider

What I'd love: better framerate than PS360, gamepad based mini games plus an interactive map while also supporting off screen play, and a couple exclusive missions or an exclusive area (maybe like 30 minutes total of exclusive activity), and all previously released DLC.

What I'd accept for full price: framerate similar to PS360, a static map on the gamepad, all the DLC (at least single player) rolled up.

Re: PES 2014 Will Not Be Dispensed On Wii U

TTGlider

This is a message no one will read. I just bought PES 2013 on Wii for a super cheap price. It is awesome. I don't know if it's the type of game I'd buy on day one, but it is really well made with some cool physics and awesome replay tool. I hope it does come back at least once on Wii U and supports the same awesome wiimote nunchuck control scheme.

"Don’t get me wrong as I have no problem accepting criticism I just feel that this review was more one person’s opinion and doesn’t really represent the gaming communities best interest. "

What is this, satire? A review is one person's opinion. The reviewer isn't supposed to guess the audience's opinion. So let me get this straight: in YOUR opinion, the gaming communities "best interests" are met by buying you game. Is that about right? What an amateur reply, Mr. Statusphere. Yeah, I really hope Nintendolife "gets on the same page" with you. That's exactly what I want from reviewers. To "be on the same page" as the game developer as to the game's rating and review.... what a joke.

Re: Watch Dogs Wii U Release Dates Confirmed

TTGlider

I'm really looking forward to this. If it has the DLC included, that would rock. If it has an exclusive mission set, that would be incredible. If it just runs at a steady 30 FPS, I'll probably pick it up.

Re: Armillo Patch Rolls Onto Wii U to Fix Framerate and Completion Issues

TTGlider

Hmm, the framerate still isn't what I would expect given the seemingly modest poly count. Also the game pulls you from bright to dark to challenge stage to boss fight with little thematic connection. And deaths sneak up on you out of the blue with the camera far back. But, there is some creativity here, I'll keep at it.

Re: Project CARS Wii U Delay Was To Ensure It's As Good As Other Versions, Says Dev

TTGlider

So they say it's not "a conspiracy" (by the way, I think the Nintenolife writers should disclose if they bought in to the profit sharing scheme that Slightly Mad originally had, as writing coverage of the project while having a stake in its sales would be extremely questionable), as in it's not a shift in resources so that the PS4 / One versions can get out for the Holidays. That can only mean that squeezing it all the way down to Wii U is involving numerous compromises. Which actually, I'm OK with if it can keep a perfect 30 FPS. Excellent frame rate plus releasing as a packaged box (instead of eshop only, which I fear there's still a chance of) will probably lead me to a day one buy. I do have a soft spot for tilting in racers.

Re: Dahku Creations Announces Departure From Game Development

TTGlider

I like the way Dan Adleman put it, and that was that every game has an audience, even if that audience is the programmer's friends and family. I think that's a good attitude. Nevertheless, smaller games like Guacamelee, Steamworld Dig, Stealth Inc, Fez, etc, have set an extremely high bar for what a small team can do. I think many of the 'indie' games we see here on Nintendolife are more like 'hobbyist' games. For me and my money, the world has moved way past where I will pay even a couple dollars for a hobby project that's anything less than brilliant.

Re: New Project CARS Screenshots Race Into View

TTGlider

The original launch for this game included the opportunity for fans to buy in to a profit sharing scheme. I believe that Nintendolife should disclose if the author or editor of future articles on this game have any stake or participation in this scheme.

Re: New Project CARS Screenshots Race Into View

TTGlider

I want to get this game, and if it hold 30s FPS, I probably will. But posts with PC screenshots are completely worthless to me. Aside from the blade hanging over our neck that the game has been pushed back and may be cancelled soon, it is not an exaggeration to say that the difference between these screens and what we might see on Wii U will probably be the same difference as between a good PS3 racer and a mediocre PS2 racer.
