As some of you are likely aware, Nintendo has been around for a long time. Before it became the video game juggernaut that it is today, the company at some point turned its profit off of love hotels, taxis, and playing cards. Naturally, this meant that it started from rather humble beginnings and originally was located in a much smaller office in an older district. Though Nintendo has long since moved on to a new headquarters, the original building it was once located in is still standing.
A few years ago, a visiting fan tried to get into Nintendo's current headquarters and set up an appointment with Shigeru Miyamoto. When he was turned away, he opted to go find Nintendo's other headquarters to have a look around. Amazingly enough, the back door was left unlocked and he got inside, recording a few minutes of footage of the old hanafuda cards and the main entryway before being escorted out by a rather baffled secretary. Here's the video:
What do you think? Have you ever personally visited either of Nintendo's headquarters? What fascinating historical secrets do you think lie within the old headquarters? Drop us a comment in the section below.

Wow this was very interesting! I thought the inside would look more... conserved? Looks normal on the outside but on the inside almost looks like an abandoned house. Pretty cool!
I feel like I read this before somewhere...
@Fandabidozi You certainly did! This was in 2007, but the guy had to take the video down from his YouTube for some copyright reasons. He just reposted it again, for some reason.
That sure was awkward and cringeworthy lol.
Weird dude. I don't feel it was worth getting cringey over in the end lol.
What a nice lady. Instead of calling the cops, she shows him some cards and gives nice information while explaining that no one is allowed in this building ever. "Haha, you came in through the backdoor, haha".
@nintendomasterr THOSE are the words I was looking for! Also, as neat as it is to see a little bit of the inside, I feel like him just waltzing right into private property that he knows is not open to the public is kind of not cool. I suppose he's lucky that that lady was so nice about it. Also also, I wonder how many people watch that video and wonder "what's a 'my space'?"
What is the purpose of the old HQ building, anyway? There must be one, or else, Nintendo would surely not maintain staff in it.
Some people might feel it's cringeworthy... but I thought it was pretty cool to see the way in. Even though the guy filming knew he wasn't supposed to be there he wasn't really a jerk about it - just trying to get a glimpse behind the curtain - and the secretary was (of course) very polite and generous to him.
Kind of a shame that Nintendo doesn't embrace their history and offer short little videos showing off their history. I bet lots of geeky people like me would be interested to learn more about the origins of the company with a video tour like this.
I'm not sure it's right to post this video.
It's pretty obvious that undead previous Nintendo employees are keep in the basement. They need not flesh but the joy of gamers to sustain themselves.
Amazing they keep it all displayed in there still an yet you're not suppose to go in ever. Makes me want to "accidentally" go in the backdoor when I visit.
The dude speaking reminds me of Grant Gustin. None the less, freakin' awesome! Glad that they were both so polite to each other. As he said, he thought it was abandoned/empty. Either way, neat stuff!
That's pretty cool, but what kind of camera was he using that she didn't notice him filming the whole time?
So who is living there? And why isn't filming or taking pictures allowed?
When I saw the recent post on how to find the building, I thought maybe it was empty and all trace of Nintendo besides the sign now gone. I'm quite surprised to find it is still occupied by a staff member and better yet, still contains products that Nintendo once produced. It's a real shame they haven't either opened it for public tours, or at the very least given us a video tour around the place or even just some cool official photos of some of the history that lies within.
I'd love to find it myself one day, and if I could look inside that would be amazing!
@Gauchorino It's a secret facility where pokemon are bred in cages and then digitized into video games.
@Dogorilla @Artwark @ejamer
I would have used the word "recording" instead of "filming" in reference to how the video was made since I doubt film was used to make it.
I would be tempted to hit a wall with my sword, just to see what sound it makes...
this guy weird..
That disembodied woman's voice would have scared me to death, having been someone who used to sneak into 'abandoned' buildings in my neighborhood quite a few times growing up, though I never had a camera with me.
I would like to know why a secretary runs an old building that nobody is allowed in to. It was very nice of her to rock some history on him though
@AshFoxX Plot twist: That is the secretary, but nobody's worked there in over fifty years. Ghosts, man...
They should turn this into a museum
Pretty neat.
Wow that's rude breaking into the house, keeping to film. I would have called the police.
Cool, but also rude. The woman was actually very polite, she could have pushed him out of the building.
