Harvest Moon is a refreshingly relaxing series within the RPG world. Rather than embark on an action packed globetrotting adventure, these games provide a break from tradition by having the player just enjoy farm life. Buying animals, tending to crops, and interacting with other villagers are the central game mechanics here. The latest installment in this long standing franchise is Harvest Moon: Seeds of Memories, a multiplatform release that aims to take the series back to its roots.
Until recently, there was no firm release window, but now it's revealed that the Wii U version will be releasing some time in 2016. Hopefully, this means that it'll be in the first quarter, as the mobile versions are still set to be out before the end of the year. Here's the tweet:

Mobile versions meaning iOS or 3DS?
ehh? i'll wait for a review
Q) What do you think?
A) My wallet is thankful. I have plenty of games as it is at the moment, so I'm okay with waiting until 2016 for Harvest Moon: Seeds of Memories. I have no problem with it coming out on mobile systems first, though hopefully the gap between the release on Wii U won't be too long. Given they were giving this game a Winter release for both versions, I can see this coming out for Wii U in either January or February.
Q) Are you disappointed by this news?
A) I kind of explained my thoughts on this with my first answer, but basically, I am not disappointed. Honestly, a 2016 release is great news for me.
Q) What are your thoughts on the Harvest Moon games?
A) I've only played one Harvest Moon game; Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life... it's one of my favourite Gamecube games. I've yet to dabble in other Harvest Moon entries, though I had a brief experience with Rune Factory on the DS, but I've been keen to these past couple of years.
The thing is, I've been itching to play a Harvest Moon entry on consoles, rather than on handhelds. Admittedly, I'll likely go back and give the Wii entries a go in future (I'm amassing a Wii collection, slowly but surely), but these last couple of E3's had me longing for a Harvest Moon on Wii U.
Now, one is set to arrive. Sure, it appears quite a bit... weaker (for lack of a better word) than what I was expecting from a new console based Harvest Moon, but hopefully the core gameplay and charm of the series will shine through and I'll have myself an enjoyable experience. I look forward to playing this game in 2016.
Well, it certainly looks like a mobile phone game...
To say that im disappointed would be flattering. But lets wait and see i guess.
@Souldin I'm not sure which Harvest Moon I was playing, but it was on the Wii, and it had the worst issues with framerate drops I've seen on the system. Just giving you a warning.
Could you please stop acting like this is part of the original Harvest Moon series? Long standing franchise? Back to the roots?
THIS is the second (!) game. If the German publisher of Nintendo games (before NoE was a thing) suddenly decided to make its own Mario games, it wouldn't be part of the legacy, it would be a fraud - and so is this.
I'd prefer a Rune Factory game on WiiU.
@scamander Might want to calm down on the reply button there bud or else you get multiple of the same posts.
@scamander lol, calm down dude.
Never played a harvest moon game, probably won't play this buy might pick it up to add to the collection of WiiU games as I think the WiiU library will be rare in years to come, like the dreamcast, ahead of its time sadly.
Footage looks terrible, so this is encouraging only in that it might be safe to assume they were showing stuff from the mobile version on massive screen. I don't have any expectation for this, but if the final Wii U product shows more than just minimal effort I'll be quite pleased as I like some of the old ones.
Maybe, last one and only one I have played was on GameCube
This is not Harvest Moon.
The real Harvest Moon is now called Story of Seasons.
If by mobile, they mean phones, I will never look at this again. If by mobile, they mean 3DS, then I will consider it.
@CB85
Everyone who cares about these games knows. It was one of the main things people (including myself) talked about with "Harvest Moon - The Lost Valley"
@ikki5 No, they confirmed iOS/Android sort of mobile, which is the reason for those phone game graphics.
@TheWPCTraveler
ok, thanks for the confirmation that I should be skipping this.
Speaking for myself, I'm well aware of the "divide" that's occurred with the HM franchise, and I am willing to give Natsume credit to see how the first few Harvest Moon games developer under their sole direction. Let's not assume that they as publisher had no creative input on the old games. Let's not assume they didn't study the sales and reception of each game and learned what elements resonate. For what it's worth, the promotional art for this game is dead-on with the classic HM style.
>The latest installment in this long standing franchise
This is the second entry in Natsume's series, the long standing Franchise is now Story of Seasons.
That being said I am a little bit more optimistic here then I was about The Lost Valley, that game was downright horrible. However this game seems to have some charm the classic games had. We will have to see how it turns out.
@TTGlider Natsume was only publishing this series in the US. So 'No', they had no creative input on the old games.
@readyletsgo really far behind the times*. I love my wii u, but the tablet is harder to use and 10x bulkier than my 4 year old ipad.
The wii u itself looks kinda good! like an Xbox 360! You know, the Xbox 360, that system that came out the same month as the last GAMEBOY. The wii u is so far behind modern times, its using a processor and video card created when a brand new GAMEBOY was still on the way...
@TTGlider that might have been true a year ago, but they released Lost Valley since then, a horrendous game by any measure, which is also the lowest rated harvest moon of all time. They learned nothing.
Damn it! I saw the picture and for a split-second thought "Are they re-releasing A Wonderful Life?" So, why are they re-using AWL artwork for this game?
And as far as SoM goes, it looks sort of like the original SNES Harvest Moon, so I'll probably pick it up but it's definitely not the game I wanted from this franchise. Hopefully Story of Seasons will have a console entry soon.
@russellohh lol are talking about the Advance Micro? Loved that little system.
And we all know the WiiU is old tech, i get what you're saying, but it's not as old as the gameboy advance which came out in 2001 not 2005.
@readyletsgo The GBA micro was using 4 year old tech at the time, true, but it was still releasing new models when that processor was developed for the 360. The wii u uses a sliiiiightly faster version of it. My $40 phone uses more advanced tech. Move on, Nintendo!
See the garbage all you Natsume loyals get to look forward to?
Thank goodness Xseed is continuing the ACTUAL series. I don't mind the name change. Story of Seasons has a nice ring to it.
@russellohh oh yeah I'm with you on that. NX better be a powerful machine with a standard controller. Sick of gimmicks and weak ass systems from them. Step it up Ninty! (ps, I have every system hooked up to my TV going back to the dreamcast, I'm no fan boy, love all systems)
@ClassicJetterz it is Marvelous doing the series and Xseed is just the localizer. It used to be Natsume but Xseed is now part of Marvelous which is why Xseed is doing it and not Natsume.
I think it's just hysterical all the people putting down the "phone graphics" and preferring it was on 3DS instead. Many games on tablets and phones look better than 3DS games. Play Pokemon Shuffle on your 3DS and a decent phone or tablet, same game, but it's easy to see which has better graphics. Some games like FE:A and Kid Icarus:U look fantastic on 3DS, but if they had proper mobile versions they would look so much better.
I understand people putting down mobile games b/c most of them are lame clones and touch controls just aren't very conducive for many game types, but graphics are not their problem. This wouldn't look any better on 3DS.
The released screenshots are from the mobile game.
We don't really know how the Wii/pc game will look like.
I've played them all since childhood, and seeing that artwork (at the top of the article) makes me feel of tinge of nostalgia for the good old days of HM. Sadly, the actual game looks rough. Really rough.
I'm really hoping the mobile version is a different thing entirely. They can fill that one up with micro transactions and whatever else, and keep the Wii U version pure.
After Lost Valley and the companies breaking up, it's hard to be too optimistic. But who knows...
people complaning about the game released on ios/android version, just see and play... isn't bad enough released in mobile version
@Souldin Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility is so so good, a strong tie for 1st place with Back to Nature on ps1.
@scamander This. It's sad how few people realize that Harvest Moon isn't Harvest Moon anymore.
@Garet_Jax If you are AWARE of the fact that this is no longer the real Harvest Moon series, why do you care? You realize the series you're so nostalgic for still exists, right? They just don't own the name Harvest Moon anymore. It's Story of Seasons.
Swearing is Mr. Wrong ~Santa
That image is from Harvest Moon 64, with the "down to earth" girl... Probably the best, next to the specs girl.
After this last Natume developed "harvest moon" pshh no thanks. Leave it to Marvelous.... but even then the latest Marvelous harvest moon/ story of seasons havent been doing it for me like the older ones did.
SNES POCKY & ROCKY 1 & 2!!!
PLEASE!!!!!! GBA PORT ONLY?!? What the heck?? Cmon guys!!!!
I really doubt anyone's gonna buy this. I mean it looks like a mobile game for one thing, and given that it's now known that Marvelous and Natsume have completely different ideas on where to take the series, I think we'd be better off waiting until Marvelous decides to do a Wii U entry.
No thanks, I'll play the game actually made by marvelous not thsee stupid knock offs
