Another month has passed and the Nintendo Switch continues to outperform the competition in the UK thanks to ongoing supply constraints.
Out of a total of 93,000 consoles sold during February, and while we don't know the exaxt cut, Switch took the lion's share of that figure. However, overall Switch sales were down by 30% when compared to the same period in 2021.
It should be noted that February 2021 saw the release of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, which no doubt boosted console sales significantly.
Total console sales for 2022 are currently down by 33.4% year-on-year, which will no doubt have a lot to do with the ongoing component shortage.
In terms of software sales, the top 10 chart is unsurprisingly led by FromSoftware's juggernaut Elden Ring, however Pokémon Legends: Arceus comes in at number 4. Considering Nintendo don't publish digital sales, we'd say that's a strong performance for the latest from Game Freak.
1. Elden Ring (Bandai Namco)
2. Horizon Forbidden West (Sony)
3. FIFA 22 (EA)
4. Pokémon Legends: Arceus (Nintendo)
5. Grand Theft Auto 5 (Rockstar)
6. Dying Light 2: Stay Human (Techland)
7. Total War: Warhammer III (Sega)
8. Call of Duty: Vanguard (Activision Blizzard)
9. Red Dead Redemption 2 (Rockstar)
10. NBA 2K22 (2K Games)

OLED is what the people want and they're having stocking issues as all major consoles.
That's it, Switch has flopped.
😜
And 2022 is shaping up to be a pretty brutal year for everyone in terms of the price of lifes essentials. Despite the big releases coming this year I can see this being a down year for videogame sales.
I don't understand highlighting in the list. Horizon and GTA V are not on Switch, but are in bold, or linked. Pokemon is, but it's in plain letters.
I didn't really have any issues finding an OLED Switch last month. I paid £317 though which I'm aware is a little above RRP.
@Kiz3000 I agree, the effects of the war may hurt world's economy beyond the expected. Video game is a luxury in the end, people will not buy/gift consoles and games when real life bills are biting hard.
NINTENDOOMED!
But seriously, it is a 5 year old console now, so those who wanted it have probably got it. I think the only reason the sales are still this good is that the PS5 and Xbox have been out of stock for god knows.
@Rika_Yoshitake All the extra stock must have ended up down here in Australia, haha. It's been pretty really available here since launch and are even available for $50 under RRP right now.
By now everyone should have a Switch and most avid gamers will probably want to upgrade to the Switch OLED. It's not really a surprise the sales are down year-on-year. What's more important is software sales and those are doing very well, especially knowing digital sales aren't taken into account.
@Kiz3000 I totally agree, with rampant inflation and the fuel prices skyrocketing VG are going to become less of a priority to a lot of people.
@BenAV It was the same on Switch launch, walked into a store in a major shopping centre and was able to buy day 1 without a pre-order yet those overseas were losing their mind at no stock available.
I think Nintendo expected it, Switch has been there for a half a decade now. They must have a secret console in works already for years.
Nintendo really need a big 1st party title now, another Mario game, Zelda 2 release date etc.
Well it's probably hard to keep selling them at that rate, most people will already have a Switch by now (if they're interested).
The OLED has been out of stock for awhile while the normal Switch (and Switch Lite) has been easy to find so this decrease in sales seems to suggest people prefer OLED to LCD.
Am I the only one who doesn't think Xbox and PS5 supply constraints effect switch sales?
It's a different console entirely.
@Degenerate_Mii
I’d say 2024 at the earliest
Well done Nintendo
But let’s end all this chip shortage rubbish
As all over Christmas and since January 2022.
Switch OLED is in ample stock in the UK.
Go right know to Smyths Toys UK.
There are hundreds in stock my local
Has15 plus in stock in store.
Such a load of hocus pocus about Swtich OLED stock issues.

It’s interesting how in each site PX,PS and NL
How each claims to have no UK stock effecting sales.
Nintendo switch OLED ample as I mentioned before.
Series x a little hard but stock at Smyths toys and Game always have stock.
PS5, getting better but still hard to buy.
Not surprised. When I purchased the OLED it was sold out later on that day. Normal Switches along with Switch Lites are easy to get hold of though as they're always available.
Even without a shortage the Switch is quickly saturating the market and it's getting long in the tooth. The economy is going to hell in most western nations so spending on entertainment is going to go down.
Nintendo knows this and that is why they now have theme parks and feature films coming out. Also they are probably making far more revenue per switch then they were with say the Wii or DS in game attach and digital subscriptions.

@HamatoYoshi
Totally agree at the moment and for a long time my switch has not been played apart from the odd family Mario kart play.
Nintendo real in house studios have not released a pure AAA game in ages.
Glad I own all three consoles to keep my big AAA game playing hobby alive.
Don’t get me wrong there is nothing like a Nintendo in house AAA title, it’s about time we had BOTW2, new Mario or DK platform game, Pikmin 4 the list goes on.
@Zverik if you're talking about the list of games, Arceus already has a link further up in the article (along with Elden Ring) and they never usually put a 2nd of the same link in the list. All the other bolded games are ones which aren't on Switch.
Edit: I've just noticed Horizon has a link which goes to push square, they don't normally do that but I suppose those games are hot topics so I don't blame them for directing traffic to their sister site.
@Otoemetry Elden Ring is not bolded and not on Switch.
I guess they did not separate Switch from non-Switch games, and just made titles in bold for which they don't have any links. But again, I'm pretty sure most of these are on PushSquare. So I don't know.
@Dezzy70 Depends on the store like it's currently out of stock completely at GAME, Argos and Amazon for example. I do recall something similar years ago where I went into Smyths around 2016 and found some rare Nintendo games in brand new condition for the price of a common Nintendo game so I guess fewer people realize that Smyths sell video games.
@Zverik as I said, it has a link further up in the article so that's why it's not bolded. This sort of follows the link convention in the chart articles where non switch games don't usually get a link to pushsquare unless they've been a particularly hot topic, I'm sure I've seen GTAV linked in the past when that was a particularly big talking point.
@Bunkerneath however, I can see some people wanting to upgrade to the "better battery model" like me. Or my son upgrading to an OLED. I know some people, more than I should, that are now just buying the Switch and it's 5 years old!
@Grumblevolcano
Smiths toys are really good for stock always
Seem to have switch OLED.
And good for series x stock they had a drop this week but nearly all gone now.
Yes smiths toys do get forgotten for video games but since the Series x and PS5 shortages people seem to have realised a bit more.
It’s like game even if it says no stock delivery do a store postcode search on their site and a lot of times they have actual store stock.
We won't see a Switch pro /2 what have you until we see a price drop for original hardware I would have thought. It's difficult to gauge when that could be due to so many external factors such as chip shortages and the increasing cost of living due to current events. It may be 30% down YoY which could be an indicator but it's also the highest selling console which points to a broader picture of what is going on. Difficut times for everyone I'm sure. But it is nice to see next gen slowly finding second gear through what is obviously going to be a longer than usual cross generation period (this generation might actually be longer overall.)
@Zverik I don't understand highlighting in the list. Horizon and GTA V are not on Switch, but are in bold, or linked. Pokémon is, but it's in plain letters.
Called NL bias being paid by those companies to Promote their product is why. That tells you how bad those highlighted sales are worse then they expect so they pay someone else to make it look better then sales really are. You also have to remember those games are more gear toward misogyny because anything else would make the male ego falter.
Just a note on this story... Switch was down 30% over the previous February, but still up over 25% over the previous February. It's still doing better than pre-pandemic levels.
@hube
Already is for me.
93 octane where I live in the US is 4.59 per gallon already.
I was going to get Gran Turismo 7, but I decided to go take a look through my backlog and realized there was a bunch of games I haven’t even touched yet. Going to work on those for now and save money.
This time last year we were also still under a ton of restrictions, I know a couple of people who bought a Switch early last year out of boredom
Who cares.. They've already sold over a 100 million.
@TheRedComet in Italy (around where I live) today unleaded is 2.2 EUR per liter, which would be 9.1 USD per gallon. Olive oil is more or less the same price
@hube
Good God man.
I know Europeans have always paid more than us for petrol but that is just insane.
Most Americans would just fall apart. Everyone here drives enormous SUVs and trucks that they don’t even use to their fullest potential. They tend to drive three row SUVs with just one person in the vehicle. It’s a complete waste of personal resources.
I’m a weirdo in the sense that I drive a Honda Civic Si. I’m a frugal American who loves his fuel efficient compact cars. But we are a dying breed.
