Microsoft president Brad Smith has said that it wants to bring the Call of Duty series to Switch, assuming its purchase of Activision Blizzard goes ahead as planned.
Smith made the comments in an interview with CNBC, in which he once again made clear that Microsoft's $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard would not prevent its games from coming to Sony and Nintendo's platforms.
Smith said:
One of the things we’re being very clear about as we move forward with the regulatory review of this acquisition is that great titles like Call of Duty from Activision Blizzard today, will continue to be available on the Sony PlayStation.
We’d like to bring it to Nintendo devices. We’d like to bring the other popular titles that Activision has, and ensure that they continue to be available on PlayStation, [and] that they become available on Nintendo.
Smith cited the fact that Minecraft – which Microsoft owns – is available on rival systems proves the company is committed to this stance:
The first acquisition made after Satya Nadella became CEO was of Minecraft. That was back in September 2014. And what we’ve done with that acquisition, I think is a clear indicator of what we hope to do if we acquire Activision Blizzard.
Namely, invest even more in innovation, bring it to more people, bring it to more platforms, make it even more useful and hopefully delightful for the people who use it.
The last Call of Duty game on Nintendo hardware – Ghosts – was released way back in 2013.

Bring Modern Warfare 2 remastered to Switch please!
Not that I am a fan of COD, but it can only be a good thing when Microsoft commits to bringing more content to the Switch.
The same is equally true of any publisher/developer.
CoD xCloud Version incoming
I had enjoyed COD Ghosts on Wii U. It was great with good variety. I hope I can play more COD in the future on Switch.
What I would love to see them do is a COD 1 - 3 "remastered" sort of collection, just the first 3 games in HD on the Switch with multiplayer.
Thankfully there is already much better games to enjoy on the Switch.
@Max_the_German I doubt that since it's Microsoft.
They would release a native version on Switch.
Cloud on Switch is nothing but a rip-off.
Worst pricing of cloud gaming ever.
This is microsofts way of saying "Yeah, we're pretty tight with nintendo" LOL.
I think they should take 4 or 5 different COD campaigns, bundle them together and release that on the Switch. Then make a multiplayer only COD for Switch with the best levels from those games. Give options to those with no interest with the other.
I never bought any Nintendo console to play Call of Duty, or any of those "popular" Activision Blizzard games.
Probably one of the DS COD games. “There, now COD is in Switch”.
Now World at War, Black Ops, or Modern Warfare I can see myself replay. Or the first three. Not a big fan of the others mostly (campaign wise), but I am a fan of this 'third party' first party approach. I wouldn't feel 'betrayed' if Nintendo brought some of their games to Xbox or Playstation either, au contraire, cross play would benefit everyone.
And every gamer who is not stuck in a teenage 'mature' 1995 - 2000's mentality, loves Nintendo to a certain degree and will see value in a Switch despite exclusivity of all the first party games, I think.
Why compete when you can complete?
Yeah no thanks. Tired to always play the bad guys in these stupid games.
Dont care for cod or any other stupid fps. Bring the whole blizzard lineup to switch. WoW on the go sounds interesting (if good 4G/5G connection is available).
And here I was hoping we wouldn't see anymore CoD news on Pushsquare... Now that stupid IP will be all over Nintendo life.
It would be ridiculous if we got the bland, mediocre Call of Duty on Switch before we got far superior Metroid Prime.
I don't need COD when it's already been announced that the best FPS series will be coming to Switch this year. I hope we get all four Metroid Prime games, because those are bound to be the top four FPSs of all time.
You can buy Microsoft Office on iTunes. Microsoft just want your money, and Xbox isn't a box any more.
Well, there's a mobile version, right? A slightly up-res'd port of that but with proper controls might be worth having...
@Snatcher not tight enough to mention Goldeneye in the direct last night 😜
@TheWingedAvenger was still holding out for Metroid news in the direct. Either 4 info or the illusive prime trilogy. Alas, it wasnt to be.
This is what you are reporting? I am hyped that No man’s sky is coming to switch!
It would be very ironic if this does happen because the last thing I figured was MS buying a publisher and that meaning MORE support for Nintendo systems.
@glaemay are there truly good guys in war then? In any situation that involves (threatening with, aka terrorism) theft of freedom, life, or other basic rights of any living being, to gain political power?
Don't get me wrong, I understand that the invaders, colonists, takers, are initiators while the others may just be defending - a basic right, arguably duty when required (while it's not a moral... 'Call of Duty' to invade. Let alone that there's any Medal of Honor on any Battlefield, in my opinion).
Just my thoughts, I agree that I rather not play these games because they player is a 'bad' or at the very least very much misguided guy with 'good intentions'.
A lot of CoD haters here... never able to escape hate, huh?
I'd rather play CoD than various knockoff FPS games on the Switch. Modern Combat 5 has no reason to have a price tag if it's free on mobile; Warface is meh, considering it's a fun game, but there aren't many good players on; most other FPS games are arena or hero shooters.
@TheWingedAvenger
Metroid Prime is fundamentally very different from Call of Duty, namely with Prime's focus on being an adventure compared to CoD's focus on being generalized (with a bit of Zombies mixed into it). There's no comparison worth making.
@dystome
Considering Call of Duty Mobile has controller support, I'm very shocked that Activision hasn't considered porting it over to the Switch, ESPECIALLY considering the Switch's architecture is pretty much the same as mobile devices.
Wow, that would be great! Thanks, Micro.
This seems more an action to counter FTC investigation on the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft. I guess they are willing to do anything they can to get it approved by the FTC.
I FREAKING LOVE YOU MICROSOFT!!!
@Gwynbleidd me too. I will be really screwed. 🙃 I am already addicted to No man’s sky on PlayStation. If I can play No man’s sky everywhere there will be no escape for me 🙃😎
COD mobile for switch confirmed.

Sweet, I'm picturing original wolfenstein 3d graphics though...
"Microsoft likes making money"
Big shocker there, but the fact it went over Activision's head is the real mystery.
Microsoft lies about its acquisitions though...
"CFO Tim Stuart spoke on the tech giant’s plans for ZeniMax Media – the parent company of Bethesda – at the recent Jefferies Interactive Entertainment conference, and how it’ll handle the releases of future games. He noted Microsoft does not intend to stop the developer from releasing titles on rival consoles, however, Xbox systems will likely receive preferential treatment."
-Tim Stuart, Microsoft
some time passes....
""I don’t know how to allay the fears and concerns of PlayStation 5 fans other than to say, 'Well, I’m a PlayStation 5 player as well,' Hines added. "And I’ve played games on that console, and there’s games I’m gonna continue to play on it. But if you want to play Starfield? PC and Xbox."
"Sorry, all I can really say is, 'I apologize,' because I'm certain that's frustrating to folks, but there's not a whole lot I can do about it.""
-Peter Hines, Bethesda
So, they said they wouldn't stop Bethesda from putting games on other platforms, but then Bethesda says they can't do anything about releasing games on rival platforms because Microsoft is stopping them. If this acquisition goes through, all of the Activision/Blizzard stuff that Switch got in the past is likely going to be gone and they aren't getting CoD no matter what Microsoft says. Smith can cite Minecraft all they want, but Starfield and Rare are a counter-example that proves it is an outlier.
Wouldn’t mind seeing the Modern Warfare Trilogy released as a bundle. Preferably with the option to buy the campaigns only but like Hell they’re gonna do that.
Yeah, I can see that. That Phil Spencer-guy is one of the best personalities that's happened the gaming industry in recent years. Funny how it might bring Activision support to Switch with the company owned by Microsoft/Xbox, while as an independent third-party, they gave Switch minimal support.
@Fairburne
Hexen on the Switch would be sensational!
Die spawn, die spawn die spawn, die spawn on Switch ? Do not bother.
@ncb1397 basically the FTC regulatiors have made sure this time that they will have to make sure certain million seller titles will have to stay multiplatform for the deal to go through
@HamatoYoshi
Oh yes i would sign up for that one, was my all time favorite.
Hands down for Microsoft, this way they will earn the money back in no time lol.
But yes if this is their aprouch, my serious respect.
I remember having a good deal of fun playing whatever CoD that was on the Wii once I got used to the weird controls. Man that WAS awhile ago.
Let's just say I'll believe it when I see it.
Good the Switch needs more FPS badly. It is severely lacking in them.
@ModdedInkling it's very surprising it hasn't come to the Switch. Game runs well on a lot of different hardware. Controls very well with a controller and would fit very well on the switch.
@Jbuggydroid
Especially given its success given to other CoD games on mobile games, I am also surprised. I suppose Activision is keen on keeping the Switch separate from mobile.
I thought cod hate died down years ago, techincal complaints sure but these "cod = bad" attitudes are just tacky
I wouldn't mind remaster of world at war and black ops 1 with gyro controls in some kind of legacy bundle or whatever. I don't much care for the newer titles so MS can keep em
Porting some older CODs to Switch seems like easy money. Activision have had a real blind spot there. Hopefully MS see sense.
I'd like to see a Modern Warfare remastered package on Switch.
The more places Microsoft can track your whereabouts and deeds the better. For them.
“As we are about to buy Nintendo, any game will be released on the newest MS Switch Pro” - Brad Smith.
Yes, i agree, this is a good "Call" from MS. I'll let myself out.
Ha that's what Activision's Call of Duty devs gets for ignoring Switch early on, now that Microsoft is in charge they had to support Switch in the end. Nobody can refuse Nintendo, Call of Duty will come to Switch no matter what. Now not saying I enjoy Call of Duty but Activision taking the series away from Nintendo's audience in the first place was not a good idea. You don't take a popular series away from a platform that is now the most dominating platform in the world with the biggest install base.
Rerelease Black Ops 1 and 2 (the best games in the series) on the Switch and I will buy them in a heartbeat.
That would be the day
@ncb1397 well it doesn't apply to older games though I think. Quake came to PS and Nintendo Switch remember and that was after the Bethesda and MS deal.
So I think that is what MS meant
@RasandeRose I wouldn't say its minimal support.
There is no COD (for obvious reasons) on Switch. But Spyro, Diablo, Overwatch, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Crash Bandicoot made it to Switch. As independent Activision did more for Switch than say EA.
Cool, when do we get Halo on Switch.
No way this is happening.
It's laughably pathetic that COD still isn't on Switch. This goes to show how many 3rd party publishers are liars and full of s-t; they shout publicly that "Nintendo has to grow the install base!". So in the case of Switch, they balooned the install base to 100M, and yet many games that could come, like COD, still do not.
Pathetic.
I wouldn't mind WoW on the go.
@The-Chosen-one mine too! I put hours into that game!
Well, if Microsoft wants to bring new games to the Switch that is a nice turnaround - I'd be interested in playing CoD on my Switch - as long as they're real buyable games and not tied to xCloud or Game Pass that is.
Call of Duty Mushroom Kingdom
Weapons like Fludd, Koopas wand and mushroom slingshots and stuff?
A Warppipe Red Shell Launcher ?
Would be a laugh to be honest.
Sieging Peaches Castle, or storming the beaches of Isle Delfino
If they bring cod bo 3 zombies or cod 1 zombies or mw3’s survival on switch ill never play another game
Sure I’ll take it. Give me Word at War on Switch or MW collection.
Mw & mw2 remastered & a port of cod mobile sounds likely
I dont trust Microsoft to keep their word, they have backtracked on stuff before, Im sure they will say anything to get the Activision Blizzard deal through.
It’s about time!! I’d really be content with any Cod making it to switch, I just want a physical release and if I had a choice I’d hope for a World at War remaster!
I'm really enjoying the love fest between Microsoft and Nintendo.
Imagine: A Microsoft and Nintendo built console with the power of Microsoft consoles, the innovation of Nintendo consoles, and the best of both worlds in terms of games. We can only dream of such a gaming utopia.
I won't complain about Nintendo x Microsoft bromancing, even if I don't play CoD.
@Fairburne Hell yes.. I was a big fan of Raven in the 90's.. Hopefully now they'll be more free and can do a Singularity sequel and reboot the Heretic / Hexen franchise.
it boggles my mind that Activision never brought Call of Duty to switch at all. where they did for for Wii and Wii U.
I'm sure some of the hardcore tech dudes at Treyarch are itching to put CoD on Switch. Should prove a good challenge for them. :v
That is, if Microsoft still would want to turn to them for getting the job done. ^^
@Aozz101x
They even put several Call of Duty on NintendoDS. ^^
@Arkay hell yeah I was going to post the same comment . BO 1 and 2 would be wonderful
@glaemay best comment
@BadPlayerOne love our current legal system for corporations “ok pinky swear that power won’t corrupt you and we’ll give it to you without the ability to punish you if you lied”
No interest in multiplayer or single player, so for me Zombie Chronicles would be the dream addition to switch. Listen to me Microsoft, I represent 90% of all life on earth.
YES! FN finally
People are still playing Black Ops 2 on Wii U.
Clearly someone at Activision got hit on the head, Cod used to be on anything from toasters to smart fridges every year. And then one day Nintendo makes a console that can run cod well with paid online and Activision says no???
Yes please! Would prefer Black Ops II but I'll take any call of duty on Switch other than the mobile one.
Not my cup of tea at all, but good of Microsoft to consider a huge untapped market. I bet the developers could make a great ground up COD for Switch given an opportunity.
Well this is good news but not surprising. M$ puts Office on platforms other than Windows and supports Win on non x86 devices. Their Ori and Cuphead ports were top notch so I look forward to seining what they might be willing to bring. Switch got some Bethesda games maybe we get Fallout 3 or Nv yet.
Yeah, i'd like to see Call of Duty on the Nintendo Switch, though i don't think it would be able to handle something like Modern Warfare 2019 (not to the same extent that the PS4/Xbox One could), but i could see it handling something like modern warfare remastered or COD mobile or something like that
Add Sims 2,3, & 4 as well.
WaW and Black Ops 1 to Switch would be nice.
