One game we're incredibly excited for is LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. It arrives next month on the Nintendo Switch, and in the lead-up, the LEGO Group, TT Games and Warner Bros. have been uploading trailers and extended footage of the new game.
The latest video is a new behind-the-scenes video titled "Building the Galaxy" - focusing on the extensive breadth of content and sense of freedom players can expect from this latest entry in the LEGO Star Wars series.
It showcases the iconic locations players will be able to explore - such as Naboo, Endor, Tatooine and the Cloud City of Bespin. You'll also be able to unlock new vehicles and characters like Mama the Hutt, Yaddle, and even the little guy, Babu Frik. And there's plenty to collect as well.
Here's some PR about what else to expect:
"The galaxy is yours with LEGO Star Wars™: The Skywalker Saga! Play through all nine saga films in a brand-new video game unlike any other. With over 300 playable characters, over 100 vehicles, and 23 planets to explore, the galaxy has never been more fun!"
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga lands on 5th April. If you digitally pre-order, you'll receive access to a Trooper Character Pack, and all digital purchases come with a classic version of Obi-Wan Kenobi. There'll also be a Season Pass made up of seven character packs. Last but not least, the physical Deluxe Edition will come with a minifigure of Luke Skywalker with Blue Milk. Day one, this is looking very awesome, and a must for any Star Wars fan.
OMG I can't wait!!! Less than a month away
Not sure what to do with this, might get the game on release for the Series X, then double dip for the Switch when the price drops, so I can play in Handheld mode, but need to see what it's like on the Switch docked before I commit.
The only way that I would deal with anything sequel trilogy related.
Though I am a bit salty Thrawn isn't in included, yet.
I'd pay extra to exclude Episodes 7, 8 and 9 from the collection. Actually... 9 would work as a video game. The entire film was a series of visiting NPCs on various fetch quests.
They have some cheek doing these interviews giving how bad the development has gone.
I can’t wait! I feel the Lego games have been a bit lacking in recent years but this look like a return to form.
Ordered on the switch as its more likely I'll complete it in handheld, but interested if its much better on the xbox.
@sleepinglion Judging how great the Star Wars Sequel kabuki play was, the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy works better as anything other than the actual films.
Except for The Last Jedi, which is the only Star Wars sequel I liked and I really loved it.
I know games are trivial at the moment with what’s honing on in the world but have been looking forward to this and hope to get day one xxx my hope is it’s not delayed because it has wars in the title x stay safe everyone xxx
I don't usually get excited for Lego games that much but this game is different. I've been dying to play this for quite some time now.
I'm really hyped for this game but I just can't swallow the huge amount of DLC available since before release. I know it's a business model, I know it's popular, companies will do whatever about their products and that's it. As a consumer, I find the idea of paying full price for an AAA release and still have a far from complete product strange. I'll probably stick with the base game and that's it
@sleepinglion
It’s sad this game got forced into using the name “Skywalker Saga” which was a failed PR attempt by Disney for Ep9 to make it feel like the sequel trilogy mattered and was part of some grand vision.
more happy if they shared some videos of the actual switch game. or is there a review embargo till the 5th
300 playable character is awesome.
Love they are adding Mando and Solo and Rogue one. Shame it’s only characters and not levels and also shame the packs are so small. Having the random characters from those movies/series would be great. I feel they could keep adding to this game. Clone war and Rebel levels etc (plus levels for the packs already announced)
I love the LEGO Star Wars games, but I will wait on this one. I have plenty of games to play at the moment, I can be patient with this one.
@SalvorHardin I agree. If anything, the sequels, with Last of the Jedi in particular, pummeled the Skywalker legacy into the ground. 9 tried to redeem Luke's ghost by avoiding the 'subverting our expectations' version from 8 where he was just a cranky old man screaming at Rey to get off his lawn. But it was too late
Am I the only star wars fan around here who grew up on the originals and still loved all the movies? If you look hard enough you can find flaws Even in the first three. After all Leia recognized Tarkins foul stench when she was brought on board. What gripping well thought out dialogue!
Yeah if you're gonna be a star wars fan you kinda have to embrace the rediculous and silly stuff. It's always been there. From Ewoks to Jar Jar to the porgs. Stop taking it so seriously and try to have some fun ya sticks in the mud!
Anyway I'm just glad there's finally going to be a star wars game made for fans like me who enjoys all eras of star wars! Now scuse me while i geek out!
Please say this runs good on switch
@John_Deacon it’s worth keeping your eyes peeled as the Lego franchises always seem to end up discounted so you may end up being able to pick up any add ons, super cheap.
I am old enough to be a super fan of the OT, but Kylo Ren is possibly my favorite fictional character of all time. You may now shower me with either judgement, hatred, or praise and comradery. I'm used to all of them.
EDIT: The sequel films had some huge flaws, but Kylo and his story were not one of them.
I cannot wait for this one. I just kinda wish they’d re release the original complete saga too since it was one of my fav Lego games ever.
Having rewatched ep 3 again last night, I'm really looking forward to riding Boga through the planet Utupau, whether chasing Grievous or just exploring the planet.
@Truegamer79 I enjoyed the sequels, but the number one problem for a lot (most?) people is the lack of cohesive plot. It’s not about “embracing silliness”, it’s about wanting the trilogy to actually tell a story.
I feel like a lot of fans were cautiously satisfied with episode 7. It wasn’t until episode 8 that people realized they had no cohesive plan for the plot or characters, and episode 9 merely cemented it with “somehow Palpatine returned after broadcasting a cryptic message on Fortite.”
@sleepinglion I feel like episode 8 will work well too. That entire pointless subplot where they visit casino planet should be fun to play in Lego. I mean, I say subplot but it took up half the movie…
Preordered on Switch and just praying it’s not a seriously compromised experience. I’ve been looking forward to the game since they announced it, but it looks maybe too ambitious to fit comfortably on a cartridge! I fear the physical release will be akin (Anakin?) to a code in a box.
And fear leads to anger, anger leads to hatred… you know how it goes. 😬
Actually there has. OG star wars battlefront. Tbh this game reminds me alot of it. As well as the first few Lego starwars games. Which is a good thing. Played alot of both as a kid. The movies were boring imo, but the games were pretty fun. The only star wars movie I actually could stay awake thru that I liked was the force awakens. All movies before it, basically the OG movies put me to sleep midway lol.
Youtubers:
sniff I smell profit!
@nimnio
I wasn't that bewildered by palpatines return. I know it didn't make alot of sense but they knew bringing him back would fill seats in the theater. Plus it's Ian mcdiarmid! Another chance to see him as palpy is fine by me. You know they needed some hook to get people Interested in the movie. Especially after the loss of Carrie fisher. It just too bad we didn't get the intended conclusion since they had to work around Carrie not being involved due to her unfortunate loss.
My main problem with rise of skywalker is that there was no decent vehicle action at all. That falcon bit near the start seemed rushed and not very immersive. That big speeder chase on sand planet was boring and far inferior to speeder bike return of the the Jedi. And crucially the final battle was just one big edited mess with that weird space electric vibe where u can’t tell what’s going on and it just was not exciting. These things killed the film for me and made it average and the weakest Star Wars film xxxxx
@nimnio
If you are using fortnite to provide significant plot details for your movie that movie deserves to fail
@nimnio You're right! While poorly assembled, the Disney trilogy may translate well into a game
Most looking forward to this game as I really like how they put all the Star Wars films in one game and I looking forward to see what the gameplay is like and also if they add book of boba fett
I’ve never really got into the Lego games, but have to admit this has me a little bit curious.
@Gwynbleidd what time limited DLC? Also, had no idea there were mtxs in this game
The whole pay full price and ‘wait there’s more!’ with the DLC schtick has totally put me off to be honest. I’ll stick with the OG Lego Star Wars that didn’t include the Disney garbage me thinks.
@Gwynbleidd @Bizzyb No microtransactions, and anyone can get the DLC's by either buying the deluxe edition or purchasing them after the fact for the standard edition. The various DLC packs will be releasing in a few waves every couple of weeks up to May 4th. The only caveats in regards to any "exclusivity" are that a couple of the DLC packs will be available to pre-purchasers of digital versions of the game on day one, while everyone else will need to wait until later dates to acquire them, and that the "Classic Obi-Wan" character (modeled after the older mini-fig look) is exclusive to digital version purchasers. Everything else will be available to all players as it is released.
Confusing, I know.

@imagazelle Thanks for the info. I preordered the Deluxe edition (physical) so I guess I should be good on all the DLC paks
