It's been an absolutely crazy week for Nintendo Switch Online with a string of leaks and rumours, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. In the latest development, footage of unreleased NES games for Switch's paid subscription service have now surfaced via an online leak.
Below is a side-by-by video comparison of the current version and a "master version" build of the NES Online application (via Twitter user @orcastraw). As can be seen, there are all sorts of extra games included here such as Tetris, Pac-Man, multiple Mega Man games and other titles like Castlevania. There are also a number of additional 'SP' games on display.
The catch is that this is a build apparently dating back to October 2019, which means there's no guarantee Switch Online subscribers will necessarily be seeing these games made available on the NES application in the future.
Nintendo is currently focused on monthly N64 releases, but there's always a chance it could return its focus to other apps. In February, for example, it surprised fans with the EarthBound games on the NES and SNES services.
This latest Switch Online rumour follows on from news earlier this week about Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance games possibly making their way to the service as well. A list of tested games has supposedly been revealed, and there are also claims Switch Online might be getting Transfer Pak support between the N64 and Game Boy services.
What do you think of the above games featured in this latest leak? Which ones would you like to see join the NES app? As always, leave a comment down below.

Whoa, Tetris a game for me
These are what I’m talking about! Tetris, PAC-Man, mega man, if it’s leaked it just means we are being dripped fed lol, tho at this point thats not surprising at all.
They are welcome but to tell you the truth is some consoles that I have CFW and I have all NES Roms I never play them, for my tastes most of the gaming stats with N64 (and DKC Trilogy on SNES) but hope they come for those who like them! I may play Tetris although I prefer th GB version.
Well I guess the multiple Mega Man games are worth it for those people who don't want to own the Mega Man Legacy Collection.
Tetris would be absolutely great! I have a couple of versions on Switch already, but the purity of the older Tetris is kinda nice sometimes.
Boy, I’ll sure take Mega Man on NSO after they screwed up the Legacy Collection for switch with that noticeable input delay. Can’t even play that collection so I’m hoping this is accurate
Love Tetris. Prefer arcade Pac-Man.
Wow, all six Mega Man games? That’s impressive.
If everything is a leak, then nothing is a leak.
2019? This has to be fake.
Also, it's too good to be true, especially with the multiple Mega Man games.
Wonder what the SP versions have in terms of content...
I'm still hoping for Shadowgate and Adventure Island
We needed these like, yesteryear, and before that. Know whats even funnier? No Startropics 2 mentioned in the leak. Yep. I’m gonna be that guy and keep bringing that up.
Tetris isn’t there yet? That’s incredibly sad.
@blackknight77 I don’t understand why the Shadowgate/Uninvited/Deja Vu collection that is on XB/PS/Steam isn’t on Switch…
Would love some Tetris and Mega Man on the system! Trying not to get my hopes up, though.
Kung Fu was one of my favorite games on the NES back in the day. Kind of disappointed it didn't make it to the Wii VC, but I'd love to see it on the Switch one day.
This is such BS. These should have been dropped years ago.
I'm just waiting for the day they get Square Enix to let them put all the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games plus Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana on there.
@PokemonDMG For the Megaman games, likely savestates at the first/last Wily stages, with all the weapons and upgrades acquired.
I've already got Mario's Super Picross, so what more could I really need?
@FleaBag_11 at some point you cross the line from leaking to sinking, lol
I'm just waiting to hear news on that so called GBA leak.
It would be a good thing to have Megaman and Castlevania on this, obviously, but I just have my doubts. The collections are obviously a far bigger priority to Capcom and Konami, they make them far more money than I imagine Nintendo would pay for these games to be on NSO. Like maybe...eventually, one of them from both series, sure.
Like Nintendo presumably paid Sega vastly more to have Genesis on NSO than they paid any 3rd party for NES games, and even then they knew to limit Sonic to just one game (and probably only did it because you have to launch a Sega Genesis gaming service with a Sonic game).
@FleaBag_11 "And when everything's leaked nothing will be" (Syndrome, probably)
I hope they leak the SNES library next. Still waiting in Super Mario RPG, which has to be coming at this point if Square games like Kingdom Hearts are included in the GBA leak, right? Even Superstar Saga has them in the credits for copyright of the Geno cameo, and that game seems to be coming.
These NES games are neat novelties and I'm glad to gave them, but I'm not sure if any of them are very compelling, considering there are already other--better--ways to play Pac-Man, Tetris, Mega Man, and Castlevania on the Switch. I already bought the Mega Man Legacy Collection some time ago but have hardly touched it. Kinda regretting that now, but at least I have a rewind feature I can abuse the heck out of, so that's cool.
It's just weird to be getting free games most of us already own this gen, like how Sonic 2 is on the Genesis library, but I already own both the first two Sonic games on Switch and now Origins is coming out. It might be compelling for new people to subscribe, but it's kinda frustrating as a long-term NSO member who already bought them some other way and could have saved his money.
All the leaks these days. Nintendo didn’t even bother to send Mario and Luigi to fix the leaks.
The more leaks there are, the less I believe them. We'll just have to wait and see. mega man and Castlevania are in other Switch collections so maybe less likely to come to NSO at this point even if they were originally tested for it.
Well, if this is real, whenever these do finally release it will be nice.
Just give me The Goonies 2 and I'll be a happy boy.
I already have the arcade versions of Pac-Man and Galaga with Namco Museum but having the NES Tetris, Castlevania, and the Mega Man titles (I’m one of the few gamers that hasn’t touched a Mega Man game) would be amazing!
Weirdest thing is that Castlevania and Mega Man have their own collections so... Or the leak is a fake, or they canned it on NSOL so Konami and Capcom could profit from their collections. Either way, I wouldn't expect much.
@NinChocolate Wait there's input lags? You mean I didn't just beat all those games natively?
Why in the hell would you do it this way. Nintendon’t care what you want apparently. It makes more sense to me to add these all at once, why bother drip feeding it. Very few individuals are going to say “mega man, oh ok now I’ll subscribe” where as many individuals will be like “wow, look at all these games”.
KUNG FU would be an awesome addition, I’d be keen to try Spelunker and Lode Runner again after all these years, and I certainly wouldn’t mind all those Mega Man games! I never bothered to buy Capcom’s half-baked physical collection of them.
The presence of Tetris on this is very suspect. The fact that the SNES app can't even mention in the description of Panel de Pon that it was localized as Tetris Attack means there's something funny going on with the license.
@Specter_of-the_OLED it had a few extra frames lag compared to the 3DS version. But if you loved it you loved it, glad to hear it
More importantly,
if they can release Tetris,
then they can release Tetris Attack as well.
I really miss Mario Paint.. I had the mouse and everything.. I’m sure that’ll never happen though
Licensing baby! That's why we've not seen these games yet. And why we may never see them and a bunch of others too. Unrealistic expectations.
@Zach I remember hearing that the Tetris Company just dislikes Tetris Attack using the Tetris name, since it isn't a Tetris game (that being the reason why Nintendo had to re-release Panel de Pon for western NSO instead of Tetris Attack). They've never had a problem with re-releases of old Tetris games that do follow the Tetris formula, though.
I don't expect most of these to be part of the service, if at all. But some of them have multi language descriptions, such as Mega Man 1 to 6 including Special Versions, somewhat.
Just seems that Nintendo has those ready to be added anytime the greenlight is given.
Mega Man will not come, since it's already released on classic anniversary edition or whatever it's called. All on the e-shop and in retail.
I highly doubt these rumours by now. It's a good thing to be skeptical about these kind of things. All 6 Mega Man games? I really don't think they would ever add all of them. Castlevania and Mega Man are all available in their collections, so it's more likely they'd release a couple of them to entice people to buy the collections. Just my 2 cents
Like others here have said, I can’t see Castlevania or Mega Man coming to NSO given their respective compilation releases (which are great), and there’s one on the way for Pac-Man (as well as the previously released Namco Museum and two digital-only Arcade compilations).
It’s quite possible that Konami/Namco/Capcom had considered NSO releases for these titles much earlier on in the Switch’s lifespan, but had since reconsidered when curating their own compilations.
Now, a retro Tetris collection would be overkill (doesn’t the Switch have enough Tetris games already?!), but being the sucker that I am... I would still consider it.
But I’d be much more keen on a Panel de Pon Collection, or better yet, a reboot of the Pokémon crossovers from decades gone by!
@Pillowpants Nintendo actually just supports as many games as possible and then think later if they're gonna be released or not, ever since Virtual Console on Wii, there's lots of evidence and I doubt most of these games would ever be on NSO in the future.
This leaked build should not be taken as evidence of what the future could bring, but rather for what they have internally.
@LuigiBlood Hence why I'm saying I'm skeptical. Sure, these could be for internal use. They could also be fake. We can only know for sure until they actually announce and release the games we are hoping for. That's all I'm saying.
If Nintendo wants to treat their back catalog as a streaming service, they're going to have to make larger drops. Imagine if Netflix or Hulu started today and said, "Yep, we have 40 things you can watch. Next week, we'll add two more."
@sleepinglion To be honest if they added 2 more games every week it would still be much more than what they ever did in the entire life of the service lol
I don't believe they will add MegaMan and Castlevania, because there are already Megaman and Castlevania Collections in the Eshop.
Nice. I don't see why Mega Man and Castlevania can't be on the service. They are iconic NES games. Anyhoo...despite all the moaning from children in the comments wanting everything straight away, the online games catalog is growing rather nicely. To me, what with the GBA games as well, it feels like there is going to be a decent influx of games maybe in a Direct.
@kkslider5552000 I always thought the same thing as well and that might still be the case with Capcom, but I'm not so sure about Konami because they put Castlevania Bloodlines and Contra Hard Corps on the Genesis/Mega Drive NSO.
You're telling me we got ones like Rygar, The Immortal and City Connection when they've had ones like Tetris, Mega Man and Castlevania in the background!? That we may not even get now!? Mamma mia....
This is being exaggerated in its impact. The majority of the games listed as unreleased are third-party titles that either have been released by their owners in a collection (Pac-Man in Namco Museum, Castlevania in the Anniversary Collection, Mega Man in the Legacy Collection) and would probably not want them in a $2-a-month app with little residuals when they can sell them for more. With Tetris, Nintendo already offer Tetris 99 as a title, and would probably prefer attention on that.
I’m always up for a game of Tetris but I wish there could just be a basic version, full screen portrait mode. It would look great!
All I want is SNES Act Raiser, I would even pay extra.
I dont buy it. Specially the Megaman games and Castlevania. Konami and Capcom sell this games in their own collections, dont think they are interested on letting these for the online Service.
I hope Im wrong, but if this leak is real it may be only early tests before getting a deal with Konami or Capcom.
@NinChocolate Input delay? Never once noticed
@Brady1138 For sure. And you’re better off for not noticing it. And that’s not a comment on skill either. You’re probably playing the games well, jumping and shooting at optimal times, and so a few extra frames delay doesn’t hamper it. I’m bad at games so I need all the responsiveness I can get, lol
Hope some n64 games leak
@blackknight77 Man, I’d like Adventure Island also, but why oh why couldn’t Adventure Island 2 have been in the leak? Ever since NSO got announced, I’ve been waiting!
Gauntlet pls thx
@Fizza tbf, rygar's a bit of a hidden gem
It makes zero sense that Capcom would release all 6 NES Mega Man games to the service, when they sell all 6 games together as a single package, with literally no other game as a part of that package. Now if they gave us 1 or 2 Mega Man games, I could see that, but all 6 just doesn't add up in my mind.
@NinChocolate lol exactly
