There aren't many puzzle fighters out there, but it's still quite bold to come out and claim you're bringing the 'cutest puzzle-fighter ever' to Switch - Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo fans won't be amused.
Bold claims aside, Aloof - published by RedDeer.games and developed by ButtonX - is heading to Nintendo's system later this year. As you can see in the trailer above, it's more about precision than speed, with puzzles that have end-goals such as creating islands for safe passage, right down to boss battles.
Below is some of the official blurb:
- Cute and competitive puzzle-fighter – challenging puzzle game like Puyo Puyo Tetris, but plays completely different: Summon and defend small islands all the while you build combos against your opponent.
- 23 challenging levels with multiple win conditions – destroy your opponent’s islands, seize all islands or take a risk and defeat your opponent before they seize a single island!
- Charming animals – you play as a cute and brave little bunny that battles opponents from the world of animals.
- Solo and couch co-op campaign – experience challenging adventure alone or compete with your friends in local co-op mode.
At the moment this is only confirmed for Switch and looks intriguing; let us know what you think in the comments.

Is a puzzle-fighter when you stomp on old men doing a sudoku?
@nessisonett LOL! I'm just perplexed as to what exactly a puzzle-fighter actually is... probably because I'm almost 52...
Gameplay looks good, but it can’t touch Critter Crunch and Puzzle Fighter II Turbo in the cute department.
@PoliticallyIncorrect. Qix, Tetris, and Dr. Mario all had VS. modes (aka puzzle fighting). Get some lion’s mane old man;)
@Spiders Hahaha! Just never heard the term before. I've played all those games before though! Have a great evening!
"Cutest Puzzle-Fighter ever" feels so out of place as a description. There's small cute animals sure, but it feels like the marketing team (if there is one) had no idea how to advertise the game at all. I mean look at it, it looks pretty damn solid, doesn't it? Pretty great artstyle and looks like it could be fun. Why not emphasize that it's aesthetically pleasing and has a unique gameplay concept, which would describe the whole game instead of singling out one tiny detail of the game and acting like that's what defines it (assumedly because it would sell the game better). I'm interested in the game but whenever one thing of the whole package is so off, it makes me sceptical about the rest of it.
Cute and unique. Nice!
Looks like it's going for atmosphere, rather than just cutesy.
If you want cutesy-cutesy puzzle fighters, there's a ton of Japanese games like that, including the obvious Puyo Puyo.
@PoliticallyIncorrect I’m just teasing you I’m old too haha. Have a good one too!
I have this game from Steam and it's absolutely great fun for me and friends. Thx RDG for take it for Switch. I will take this funny game for trips!
