Apogee Entertainment has announced that it's bringing an open-world adventure game by the name of Elements to all the video game consoles next year, including Nintendo Switch. Coming from Wreckit Games, the developer's debut title will feature a girl named Nyah as a protagonist voiced by none other than Princess Zelda herself, voice actor Patricia Summersett.
The game was revealed for PC a while ago and is described in the latest press release as a massive 'open-world action-RPG'. It's giving us certain Breath of the Wild vibes in much the same way Ubisoft's Immortals Fenyx Rising did last year, although this game began life as a solo project for animator Devon Parson, founder of Wreckit Games.

Elements takes place in a land called Elemythia, "a vast, verdant land of sword, sorcery, and secrets", natch. As you can see in the trailer above, the story focuses on Nyah and Beckett as they fight to save their home using the power of eight 'Elemental Stones'. It's always some enchanted gemstones, isn't it?
Here are some more details, plus a clutch of colourful images from the press pack. Obviously, these no doubt look a lot crisper than the game itself will when it arrives on Switch, but they give you a good idea of the lush environments of Elemythia and the gameplay potential, at the very least:
In Elements, young Nyah and Beckett will find their destiny in a bold adventure of each player’s making. Each Elemental Stone recovered will bestow legendary gear with powerful traits and new magical abilities. Craft equipment to enhance combat strength, or find leisure in life by building a homestead, where the siblings can farm, store items, or simply relax. After all, a tough road through the wild awaits. Take nothing for granted. Learn from failure. Leave the world better than you found it.
Looks nice, doesn't it? The game is set for a 'Q4 2022' release across all the current consoles, plus Steam. That full complement of platform launches sounds like a tall order, especially for a debut developer, so it'll be interesting to see if this ambitious-looking game slips into 2023. On current evidence, it's certainly looking like a promising project, though.
In addition to the debut trailer above, a short video featuring more footage with Patricia Summersett discussing the game and her character, Nyah, has also been released. Check it out below:

2024 if they're lucky.
Looks way more Immortals than BotW but I suppose that's a mighty slim distinction.
Makes me miss the Skylander games. I'm a sycker for those 3rd person cartoon graphics. Also has a hit of of Troll hunters vibe. Which is nice, but I'm kind of getting suck of that same green crystal showing up seemingly in everything I watch or play.
I wonder how many more years before everything starts getting pulled from the Switch like it did from the Wii U?! I know the install base is exponentially greater but at some point next Gen games will start running like Cyberpunk on PS4. Maybe we'll get Switch 2 by then. Anyway, this game will run fine, just thinking out loud about the future.
Looks nice, doubt I will grab it on the Switch as I didn't enjoy playing Immortals with the downgrades.
Sometimes i'm not sure if so many new games are inspired by the Fortnite aesthetics or if it's just that with Fortnite being this popular, the comparison is inevitable. Either way, i really dislike the Fortnite-ish look that i personally feel - feel free to disagree. Other than that it looks interesting.
The more the merrier, I say
The whole trailer experience was a 50:50 of back and forth between "this looks a lot like Zelda" and "this looks nothing like Zelda"
I hope it delivers
I'm glad to see colours and not the washed out pastels Ninty seems to be in love with.
The graphics are awful 😢
The art style is really charming!
@Yorumi Not on this site! LOL
@Yorumi Well yeah, Zelda 1 comes to mind
Apogee in 1998: Dead
Apogee in 2022: **Earth wind and fire intensifies*
Looks like the publisher has a lot of confidence in this game.
Not a huge fan of the Fortnite-like art style, but the game looks pretty good! I will follow it, let's hope it turns out well.
@Yorumi That's true, the original Zelda from NES is forgotten too often, although the style of the world and the way you move around reminds quite a lot to BotW. That's not a bad thing, though. I prefer this much more than if it looked like an Assassins Creed game.
Building your own town looks interesting
@Yorumi None of them did it as wonderfully as BotW. And I was a huge Fallout 3 fan that easily gave the nod to BotW as the new king. You might not like the Zelda flavor but the gameplay is way beyond anything before it.
Looks like it has potential! Will keep an eye out when its out
@dartmonkey Is PS4 one of the planned platforms for this game's release?
@Jamie_R go look at Pokemon Arceus, made by a much bigger and financially stable team, and rethink that statement.
@TowaHerschel7 Yep!
Okay, this is not my favorite art style, but if it runs smooth, and switch doesn't suffer visual downgrades, then maybe.
Any game with a purple haired protagonist looks good to me, right Shantae?
Lol; looks like the characters from Portal Knights with a sword based combat that you get from a stone like BoTW all within an open world with all kinds of side quest and main quest like World of Warcraft...not sure if I have seen these elements before...but I enjoy all the latter so will enjoy this too!
Are we just calling every open world released after Botw a "botw style" one??? People are acting like Botw invented the genre.
@iLikeUrAttitude Pretty Much
1:10 is all you need to see from this game tbh
Zelda's English voice acting was probably my least favorite part of Breath of the Wild. I definitely don't imagine that voice acting when I think of Zelda now, though.
This has a lot of potential for me, if the graphics and performance hold up on Switch.
I actually held off on Immortals Fenyx Rising due to negative comments about graphics and performance when it first came out on Switch. A month ago revisited the reviews, then bought it on sale. Once I got past the prologue haze and short draw distance (which I wasn't expecting), and the graphics opened up, I have been really impressed with IFR.
Trying to remember the name of another upcoming 3D action game with a similar female protagonist and cutesy critters (for toy marketing I imagine).
BOTW clone with dungeons? Sign me up!
Hello, I am a serious internet commenter. For the life of me I can't imagine why this game isn't described as Fallout 3-style or GTA V-style. I mean those are open world game too. Open world is obviously the only similarity between this game and BotW. I mean you could literally pick any open world game to compare this too.
Thank you for your time. See you all again when I notice a pattern I can get bent out of shape about. Until then:
Yours in Metroidvania,
A serious internet commenter.
This looks intriguing. A ways off, so I’ll probably completely forget I saw this preview for a year or so until the release date is closer and I can start to get more excited for it.
@rjejr My first though was Skylanders meets BotW lol. Looks interesting enough to look at reviews when they hit.
She seems lovely, but her English accent and acting in BOTW were really bad. Totally spoiled the cutscenes
Mixture of BOTW and Immortals combined. Could work if they do it right.
@Yorumi
BotW just took the best out of many open world games and combined it with the Zelda formula. Unlike many open world games that focus on progression for exploration and combat, BotW relied on skill, which ultimately gave a greater emphasis on exploration rather than objective. This system allowed people to explore "difficult" locations without being forced to use exploits or grinding for higher stats. With that in mind, BotW had a much simpler, easier-to-learn combat system.
There are two reasons why XCX isn't brought up. One of them is obviously because barely anyone had a Wii U and Monolith Soft hasn't ported the game over to the Switch yet, and the other is because the game still utilizes a traditional RPG system derived off of the other Xeno games. It's not straight-up combat like in BotW.
I also do want to mention how XCX was a game not designed very well for the Wii U's hardware (well, all three Xenoblade games don't work as well with Nintendo hardware as most other big Nintendo games) in comparison to BotW.
@Purgatorium
Because of the climbing and gliding mechanics that those Open World games you mentioned don't have.
The art style and tone is brutally generic. I hope the gameplay elevated the package.
@Yorumi
Once again, I can't stress this enough, but exploration is the reason BotW is unique, not objective. It doesn't matter how little there is to do in BotW, because most of it involves exploring Hyrule, not completing quests across it. It's not just about completing the main story.
And keep in mind, everyone who praises BotW are already aware of the issue that the game just lacks stuff to do. They already know the world is empty, but their enjoyment of the game outweighs their complaints.
Most other open world games INCLUDING The Elder Scrolls doesn't fully allow you to explore without grinding the game. You can technically access any area in Skyrim, but you're more than likely to die simply because of the lack of stats, and the combat system doesn't allow much of a workaround unless you grind. Compared to BotW, where you have mechanics such as the Perfect Guard and Flurry Rush, which ultimately act as viable methods of killing off difficult enemies. Genshin Impact is a great example of what Breath of the Wild could be, but at the same time, you can't explore certain areas until you're a certain level.
With Breath of the Wild's Stamina system, there is one very obvious way to get around that issue - cooking. Besides, very few locations in BotW actually require much stamina to climb, because in most instances, there is always an alternative route to climbing a certain area.
@GoldenSunRM I was being sarcastic. I thought I was being over-the-top enough to make obvious but I guess it's hard to satirize these ridiculous people lol.
@Purgatorium
Oh sorry, I just saw so many people actually serious about it to completely lose the ability to tell when someone is being sarcastic.
I feel like many people here just have fun saying the opposite of the newser.
Like if the news don't say anything about being similar to BotW, the comment section will be full of "OH MY GOD THIS GAME IS SOOOOO RIPPING OF BOTW".
But if the newser talk about it, there's full of comments like:"WTF WHY DO YOU GUYS THINK THAT EVERY OPEN WORLD IS A BOTW COPY".
@GoldenSunRM For sure. Some people just like to complain for the sake of complaining. I don't for a second believe they actually care that many games are described as Zelda-like or whatever. They just notice a pattern and take the easiest route to satisfy their need for attention.
@Spoony_Tech You can always tell the dad posts. 😉
@k8sMum "I 'm glad to see colours and not the washed out pastels Ninty seems to be in love with"
Fair warning - don't watch any of the Pokémon trailers. I swear they are still making 3DS games and just porting them to Switch. 😂
This is a day-one purchase for me!
@rjejr How nice of you to spell colors properly for those from EU.
@Spoony_Tech That wasn't me, that was @k8sMum she's from your neck of the woods or their abouts. Though I have been typing it that way for several years now, I kinda like it. Very Sylvando.
Voice of Zelda as in the one from BotW? Uh... yeah I'll pass. Lol. I had my issues with that game in general, but enjoyed it for the most part. The voice acting, though, was unforgivably bad and cringe-worthy. Oof.
Is that you Fenyx?
The character is called Nyah as in Edward G. Robinson. “Nyah, see?”
@Yorumi
Go ahead and jump to conclusions about my opinions. I was only being observant of what the others think.
BotW is different, so is every game. Every open world game isn't worth comparing with each other if they're meant to be different. With that in mind, it doesn't matter how popular one game gets over the other, or what people may think of it even though some of the things simply aren't true. If people praise BotW, they praise BotW. It has absolutely nothing to do with your own opinion on it and other games.
