UK physical chart data is now in for the week ending 24th July, revealing that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD has fallen to second place in its second week on sale.
The game managed to go straight in at number one last week, beating other newcomer F1 2021 to the top prize, but after a 74% drop in physical sales for Zelda this week (thanks, GamesIndustry.biz), the two have now switched positions. EA's racer sold best on Xbox Series platforms, followed by PS4 and PS5 respectively, and ultimately shifted more copies across the board than Skyward Sword this time around.
Nintendo enjoyed another strong week overall, however, with five Switch exclusives finding their way into the top ten. Further down the pack, Cris Tales has debuted at number 36, with the Switch version outperforming all PlayStation and Xbox editions at retail.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:

I'm wondering a little why the Switch edition of Minecraft in particular keeps selling so well. I'm going to guess most people who would want it on PC already have it on there. Or do these charts just not include PC game sales?
Number-rise, how relevant are the UK sales? I get the importance of the order, but what's the total and how that stacks in comparison with the whole Europe, Americas and Asia?
@Yosher Physical only - I'd guess the vast majority of PC sales are digital at this point.
Interesting that Cris Tales sold more on PS5 than it did on PS4 though according to the linked article. Worth mentioning that it was also day-one on Game Pass, which might explain the relatively low sales on XBox.
@Yosher Maybe because it's the only handheld version of it that doesn't totally suck, like the mobile ports with touch controls, and has full parity with the other platforms
@Fidodemo about 6th place worldwide, behind South Korea and Germany and ahead of France and Canada.

@Fidodemo With so much nowadays being bought digitally, and the U.K. only doing physical charts, they really have little relevance anymore. There is supposed to be a digital charts for the U.K. but I haven’t seen anywhere report these charts.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was on 3rd place. 😊
Oh wow, interesting to see F1 2021 doing so well. I do love those games though, very well made and lots of fun. Perhaps the more open season is getting more people interested in the sport.
I'm not buying Skyward sword as yet, it's far to pricey for an old Wii game.
What I will be getting in September is ColorsLive, it looks like an awesome drawing application.
@Fidodemo Check out the site vgchartz for that info
@nessisonett This season must be helping. It's been great so far. I think Drive to Survive on Netflix has really helped the sports popularity in general also.
@Flashlink99 @dmcc0 Yeah that both makes sense. Thanks.
@uptownsoul Ah thank you. I don’t know why sites like this don’t do these roundups for each month when it shows a much fuller picture of the sales - even if Nintendo doesn’t provide digital.
Nice to see the ps5 being a bit busier in the charts since there are more actually being played than just sitting in the sheds of scalpers. Likely won't see Xbox titles there due to gamepass, but competition from other formats is only a good thing for gamers.
@FragRed I think you've asked and answered your own question. Agreed that it would be better to see the fuller picture though now that so many people buy digital. Personally I still prefer physical when I can.
off topic.
will nintendo life be reviewing Samurai Warriors 5? if it dosen't have any major performance issues would rather get it on the switch?
@Okko they rarely drop in price later on, in fact in the UK the best deals on new Nintendo first party titles can be found at launch, the likes of Currys PC World usually come through with a good offer/voucher code shortly before release date.
If you're willing to sell it on at completion you can play most new Nintendo titles for free (or at the very least the cost of a cheap rental back in the day) if you buy wisely at launch.
Thoroughly enjoying Skyward Sword HD.
Amazing port Tantalus, Thank you.
For the people who say "Stop caring about other people's money", because people buying bad products does not affect me, it does.
Skyward Sword cost $50 on the original version, the Switch version costs $60, the original Skward Sword was good, but not that much, the worst of all the mainstream 3D Zelda games, and while I get that this version has a lot of fixes and is better than the original, still not enough to jusfify.
This should have been a collection with Wind Waker + Twilight Princess + Skyward Sword, but now we are getting just Skyward Sword, people buying this means Nintendo will keep giving us expensive ports that don't have enough new content to even justify the port existing, all those Wii U games deserve ports, it failed, only sold 13 million copies, they are new games for 71 million people, but the Wii sold 100 million.
@dmcc0 No one buys PC games on physical copies anymore except in niche markets, especially since physical copies are mostly fake, you still have to download the game and the disc is just the software to download it, plus, Blu-Ray drives on PC didn't catch on, the few PC physical copies that do have the contents on the disc, are coming in many DVDs.
@JohnnyC Yeah I kinda did but as you said, at least it would provide a somewhat comparable. The results are pretty different to what we see in the weekly charts.
After being released 3 times already (on Wii, virtual console on Wii U, and finally on Switch), and me buying it for both the Wii and Wii U, I have no need for a switch version. The 60fps is great though for those who never played this game.
How do you keep doing this Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?! Is everyone on planet earth buying a copy every week?!
@nessisonett That is one reason. Another is the new story mode, which I've heard is relatively short but sharp.
@Flashlink99 That is so incorrect (apart from the touch controls, but i like them) - the Switch version of Minecraft is riddled with bugs, like deleting your world if the save gets too big for example. They fixed it once when everybody complained about how horrible that version was, then it ran great, then became horrible again and it recently got partially fixed again.
Just to be clear - "Minecraft (Switch Version)" was great. But since you're talking about the one that has full parity in terms of content with the other versions, you're talking about the Bedrock version they later changed to and that's the one with all the issues.
Sorry, i sound unnecessarily passive aggressive.
That sales trajectory. It certainly isn't pointing skyward....
@Yosher Both my niece and nephew have Minecraft on PC but also have it on their Switch's. Tried to get them to share one copy, but no! they love and play it enough to warrant one each.
Guessing a lot of other kids (and adults) are the same.
@Scoopz VGFarts champions made up numbers through their “network of experts and their proprietary predictive algorithm” (lol), they’re absolutely worthless and actually a detriment to sales discussion with them continuously poisoning the discourse with fake info. This has been demonstrated countless times, just do some research if you want to know the nitty gritty.
@DashKappei How has this been demonstrated and by whom?
@StefanN it’s alright, Bedrock edition is plaguing every platform from mobile to PC. The previous console editions were much more stable and not full of Marketplace junk by Microsoft. Switch port is better to me than nothing I guess, after years of playing on iOS with missing features from the other platforms
Stateside here. Thankful I saved up, and picked up Skyward Sword HD. I didn't own a Wii, when it was first released, I was not too crazy about the Wiimote. I am close to 20 hours of time played, Fire Temple. Enjoying the journey thus far. Also obtained two posters as well for pre-ordering.
I enjoy both the motion, and button controls. Love the music, gameplay, visuals, and atmosphere. Happy to own my copy.
For those who pass on it, totally understandable, some feel it's too expensive for a port, or were not a fan of it. I feel it was a worthwhile purchase. I do agree, price was a bit steep, but it's the way Nintendo does things lately. But to have it in my gaming library, I am thankful.
So F1 across all platforms beat a switch game? Wow. Also, ofc cris tales didn't sell well on Xbox where anyone who has a lick of common sense & doesn't need to have a physical copy (meaning the vast majority of gamers) can play it on game pass, even w a 1 month of 2 week trial. Why would anyone buy it?
@Scoopz
Just do your due diligence and look it up yourself, it’s not exactly a secret. By whom? By the real numbers provided by NPD, Famitsu, Media Create’s White Book, GFK, ASVI… They constantly went and deleted all mention/web pages/etc of the made up numbers and changed them into the real ones without any explanation each and every time the real sources provided numbers in the open… Anyway, I wanted to give you the notion and tools to verify it yourself, don’t have to convince anybody, if you enjoy reading a bunch of made up fluff by iOi you’re free to do that lol
@DashKappei Bro drop the attitude. If youre gonna make assertions then its standard practice to back it up with evidence. Dont get arsey or act like me asking for some reference (which you really shouldve provided yourself) is some kind of affront. Share knowledge and make this a respectful community. Throw that arrogance in the garbage
@Scoopz it seems to me that the only one with an attitude it’s you, “bro”.
It’s been common knowledge for 15 years, I shared a notion with you and after that it’s up to you to do the work, I’m not going to do that for you especially with that first reply attitude. I don’t care about changing your opinion, that’s up to you, but I will always fight fake numbers in any sales discussion.
I’m not sure you know what hersay is, because if it’s true then it’s not hersay which is why VGChartz has never done anything about it.

@DashKappei There was zero attitude in my 1st reply. You made an assertion without referencing any evidence and I simply asked how was your point proven and by whom? A straight question. Zero insinuation, no words used that could be interpreted as "attitude". You however then took being questioned as an affront (which speaks volumes about your character) and then went into a big rant about how people need to go off and do their research and you dont have to prove anything to anybody. When in actual fact its a universally accepted practice to back up any assertions you make with actual evidence. Especially so when youre attempting to correct someone. 🙄
When i proceeded to take you to task on your arrogance and questionable response you doubled down on the poor behaviour but then proceeded to produce links to the evidence you shouldve provided in the 1st place, thereby highlighting how pointless and unnecessary your initial song and dance was. Well whatevers going on in your life right now that triggered this farce, i hope youve got it off your chest now and know to do better in the future. Enjoy your day ✌
@Scoopz you should really work on your reading comprehension and anger issues. ciao
@DashKappei An ironic response given your angry rants and your claim of an attitude in my 1st message despite zero words or phrases used to justify such an interpretation. To sum it up youre just arrogant and got defensive when some dared to question you. Do better
@Scoopz ok
Fall off seems about right, the majority of people buying this probably never played it (like me despite owning a wii, gaming was my last priority at the time) and die hard Zelda fans that just buy all games in the series to add to their collection.
