While Nintendo was busy unveiling umpteen indie delights during yesterday's Indie World Showcase, United Label was also busy launching a new trailer for Tails of Iron, an RPG headed to Switch next month.
The clip gives us another look at the game's dark, foreboding world, as well as a glimpse at its combat, described by the development team as "punishingly brutal". Players take on the role of Redgi, heir to the Rat Throne, and must embark on a perilous quest to reclaim the Kingdom alongside a band of brave companions.
FEATURES:
- Master brutal combat, inspired by the souls-like genre, featuring dodge-rolls, parry bashes, and fatal executions!
- Explore a vast and treacherous Kingdom, comprising six distinct biomes, each with its own hidden paths and secrets
- Immerse yourself in a compelling story, narrated by the deep, raspy vocals of the legendary Doug Cockle
- Customise your attack style with a vast array of distinct weapons and armour
- Assemble a band of brave companions, ready to aid you on select missions
- Complete side quests to earn additional gold-on-the-side
- Unearth special blueprints to forge new and powerful weapons
- Collect rare ingredients to cook up health-boosting feasts
- Overcome savage boss fights against the Frog Clan’s deadly, oversized generals
- Lose yourself in the gorgeous and lovingly-crafted 2D hand-drawn art style.
We've had an eye on Tails of Iron since it was first announced for Switch back in July, and feel that it might be one worth adding to your wishlist. The game launches on 17 September – will you be checking it out?

Seems a bit weird having Geralt do the voiceover, like... get another voice, voice actor!
I love everything about this apart from the paper pin animation.
I feel like the animation loses some dynamism because of it.
I love the art style! Although it's a little strange how stern the presentation is despite the characters being more cute. I mean...it still works, but it almost doesn't. Maybe i'm missing an acknowledgement that they're mice? Maybe that's even the point, weak little mice and evil toads (which have the cliché of being somewhat nasty) but then it's not being incorporated into the presentation and story. Anyway, that's just a minor point in an overall really interesting looking package, definitely wanna play this!
EDIT: rats, not mice. Still cute 😄
big Mouse Guard vibes.
@GrailUK I felt the same but couldn't be bothered to articulate it. Well done and thanks. The animation is just a little disappointing.
I really love the art style. It reminds me of Ivor the Engine!
@gcunit welcome
I have the physical of this on preorder. Looking forward to it.
@GrailUK Definitely a personal preference thing, I looked at it and enjoyed the animation.
Same. I enjoyed the animation. Some paper stick animations are really bad but those in the videos are OK. Maybe because the art style feels like painted paper. When the paper animation are done with realistic aesthetic then it becomes unbearable.
@FantasiaWHT Oh, absolutely. Blimey, I hope I didn't come accross as a voice everyone must obey! (I would run away if that happened lol) Like I said, I'm still going to get it at some point. I love everything else (including the art style.)
@SuperNoob Yep, that is a very valid point. G 'n' G sold it by a story book coming alive. It can be creatively executed. For telling stories in physical media / performances it's beautiful. But to play it. sometimes it's the gameplay can feel a tad awkward. (for me)
Looking good, may check it out later this year.
Really looking forward to this. Day one buy.
Definitely reminiscent of Mouse Guard, but I'm also reminded of a tabletop game called Mice and Mystics (which is a very solid, if somewhat basic, RPG-style minis game, if anyone here is into that type of thing).
Looks pretty good to me and is on the list, but there are so many things I need to catch up on right now, this will be a lower priority for me.
