Re: Review: Portal Knights (Switch)

@Fake-E-Lee glad you are enjoying it so far! I had a lot of fun with this game, especially the building aspect (my second house was an Enterprise-style building on a space-themed island). The combat is really nice, and--at the time--it filled in the Monster Hunter-sized void in my Switch collection.

I've since moved on from this game, but not without fond memories (and a ton of screenshots).

I hope you have endless hours of fun with the game! The ending portion of the story is a real trip. ^_^

Re: Nintendo Enforces Takedown Of Fan-Made Game Creator Pokémon Essentials

@KingdomHeartsFan pirates or not, profit or none, they (we!) don't own the copyright.

Is it the same as someone making fan art of an existing IP? Yes and no. The fan art is your work (that infringes on existing IP). The sprites are the actual ones taken from the game. Which is unauthorized use of copyrighted material.

In the situation of fan art, the copyright owner can choose to issue a C&D to the fan artist just the same.

Why does this NOT happen a lot in comics conventions? There is something called an implied license, in that the main company is not actively suing fan artists for the sake of growing the community. (e.g. Marvel not suing people who make fan art) But when they do send out a C&D, it must be followed.

Would Nintendo benefit from fostering a fan community? Definitely. Are they at fault by pursuing legal actions? Definitely not.

Build the future, protect the present. Remember the past.

"The world is thrown for a loop when gigantic, blocky monsters from another dimension suddenly invade our reality.

Meanwhile, a girl from the suburbs (Mila Jovovich) discovers the true secret to her lineage. Wielding a pickaxe, she is the only hope of humankind. She must answer the call of her ancestors, those blessed with the powers of... the Minecrafters."

Re: Dress Up As Link When Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate Arrives On Switch This August

@Preposterous very true. MHXX Switch Ver. was just a quick upgrade to act as a stopgap, and especially since they were gearing up to promote MHW.

I suppose the main reason why people are griping about MHGU looking dated is because it's 2018. Had it come out in mid-2017, there would have been far fewer complaints. (And this is my main issue with Capcom delaying MHGU this long. It just attracts more negative comments.)

Ultimately (no pun intended) though, fans of the series have been waiting for this and will most likely play it (I know myself and all my friends will! I pre-downloaded it, already.) The people complaining are likely not going to be buying it, anyway.

To everyone complaining: As long as there is no other MH game on the Switch, this is the best we have. Hopefully there will be a more modern MH coming soon, but for now us hungry fans will have to make do with this. (And I'm completely fine with that. Looking forward to hunting "Jet Magala" soon.)

@Kevember yes people can easily avoid them. Which is a problem in itself. If you avoid even 1 out of 5 articles because of it, that's a 20% loss in clicks for NL.

If they make 5 great articles instead, the views would increase (in this hypothetical situation, anyway.)

Also good on you for disabling ad block! I do the same, and even click on ads here from time to time.

*"...insightful or inciteful..."

Nice phrase. I'll use it if you don't mind, @NEStalgia, hehe.

@Mii_duck the click-bait concern is not just for the sake of the readers. As others have said, it lowers the standards of the site (tabloid vs. journal) so for prestige sake, Nintendolife would benefit from less of that stuff.

True, we can quickly detect and avoid such articles, but that leads to a bigger problem: it causes viewers to go elsewhere. Plenty of comments on this article indicate that it's exactly what is happening. People are turning elsewhere for non click-bait content.

I'd also like to add that I'm sure everyone would like to maximize the content that they find useful on this site.

A front page showing 5 informative and soulful articles is much better than one informative, one soulful, and 3 clickbait articles.
