If you’re a fan of the original Overcooked, you’ll no doubt be aware the sequel to the fast and frantic multiplayer game about food preparation arrives next week on the Nintendo Switch.
Rewinding to last week when Team 17 shared a new trailer of Overcooked 2 revealing five chefs for players who pre-ordered the game, Nintendo has now issued a reminder there'll be an additional chef exclusive to the Switch version of the game.
If you pre-purchase prior to the release of the Switch version, not only will you get five exclusive chefs, but you’ll also get a Platypus Chef. You can spot the Aussie animal at the very end of the trailer below:
Overcooked 2 includes local and online multiplayer, a new ‘throwing’ mechanic, new level mechanics, dynamic level design, an interactive world map, new kitchens, recipes, and chefs. For more information about the game, make sure you check out our recent hands-on preview.
The title launches on Nintendo Switch on 7th August for £19.99 / €24.99 / $29.99 with a boxed retail version also on the way. Pre-orders are available right now.
Is this exclusive Switch character tempting you to pre-purchase the game? Have you already pre-purchased the game? Or will you be picking it up on release? Tell us below.

I dig the platypus.
PREORDERING NOW.
Wish it was a Nintendo themed chef... would have loved to see Link or Mario as the bonus
I don't like pre-order exclusives for actual in-game content. They can be unlocked early for pre-orders, or even held back for X number of weeks - but any content on the game should be obtainable regardless of whether you pre-order a game.
does it work if I pre-order at a store? like bestbuy for character's.
I don’t like these pre order bonuses
@Eef when I checked earlier at other sites they said for digital only for the bonus.
This seems to only show up for the US, any joy for us in the UK?
When I switch Nintendo stores it gives me no Pre-Purchase Specials
@JnFnRu I preordered this a few days ago and I received a confirmation of the characters after my purchase and I’m in the UK using the UK store.
@Iamcardboard Ah so just on the official website? https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Games/Nintendo-Switch/Overcooked-2-1388792.html ?
Can i still get those chefs f i don't pre-order the game ?
Maybe like DLC Updates.
@JnFnRu Hey! Yes, UK e-Shop pre-orders are eligible too.
@Anti-Matter They'll be available to purchase from launch.
I'm going to wait and see how this one runs on the Switch. The original was an utter joke, dropping to sub 10fps when things got busy. Even during normal play it spluttered along at around the 20fps mark. Totally unprofessional and nothing should ever be released in that state.
@EasyDaRon Mind your language!
@ramu-chan Me and a friend just recently played the original to get ready for the sequel and experienced no frame drops. So I'm guessing whatever issues you had are fixed now.
And come on Nintendo Life. Me and others told you the US price is listed at $24.99 on your other article and even linked to the official Nintendo US store page at $24.99 but you still have the wrong price listed.
Once again for clarification: https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/overcooked-2-switch
You even have the correct price on your own site under the game's page. Now I'm even more confused why it's wrong. https://www.nintendolife.com/games/nintendo-switch/overcooked_2
I am really against in-game content locked behind pre-order bonuses. It turned me off to buying this game at all. I had heard the developers discussing the sequel on a podcast so I was really interested but this is too much of an EA move to support.
@Eef but I'm not in the uk I in the usa
