Re: Breath of the Wild Developers Discuss the Zelda Timeline

SomeWriter13

We should consider that Zelda isn't always just about the video games.

I imagine people care about the timeline for LARP or DND style RPs set in the Hyrule universe. Or fanfic. So timelines and lore matter to them.

Let's not dismiss those fans with "ROFL LOL JUST ENJOY THE D$%N GAME."

Edit: on a sidenote, this is why Wizards of the Coast pays attention to their timeline, because they have plenty of fans who don't play Magic: the Gathering, but follow the lore and collect cards accordingly.

Re: Nintendo Has Reportedly Delayed the Roll-Out of 64GB Switch Game Cartridges

SomeWriter13

@Anti-Matter I haven't experienced major framerate drops since the first few days of playing the game. Just the occasional short slowdowns, but nothing too bad. There were also memory issues regarding large islands, but thankfully I never encountered them.

Honestly the game is so chill and relaxing that I didn't mind when the game struggles a bit every now and then.

Re: Nintendo Has Reportedly Delayed the Roll-Out of 64GB Switch Game Cartridges

Like many here, I've invested in a large capacity SD card to prepare for digital download games as well as patches. So far so good. Enjoying my slim Switch case since I don't have a lot of cartridges these days. Portal Knights, Overcooked, Spelunker Party, and Golf Story among other indie games fit comfortably in my card.

But unfortunately, 16gb games and up are a bit too painful to both store and download on my incredibly slow DSL connection.

Because of those reasons, I prefer physical for large games. Mandatory 10gb and higher patches are excruciating for the same reason. So I hope developers are able to afford cheaper 32gb+ carts and we have better choices in the future.

Re: Editorial: Trying to Play Monster Hunter XX in Japanese on the Nintendo Switch

@JaxonH I played the heck out of MH4U. Truly one of my favorite 3DS games of all time. Last I checked my old XL, it said I poured 1,105 hours into that game. A combination of adult life and a lack of G-rank caused me to pour in only 350+ hours into MHG. I was hoping to put more into MHGG, but alas, Capcom decided not only to make MHW a non-Nintendo game, but they didn't even bother bringing the old MHXX into either Switch nor even the 3DS. (I know I'm preaching to the choir, sorry, but it bears repeating, salt or otherwise.)

I'm still optimistic we'll get MHXX localized in the future, as Capcom seems fine with releasing old (hopefully not "very old" by the time) titles on Nintendo consoles these days.

Re: Editorial: Trying to Play Monster Hunter XX in Japanese on the Nintendo Switch

@Agramonte and @ShadJV I gotta agree, adult life seems to be getting in the way of my gaming habits, as well. But gosh darn it, I'm going to try and cling to the memories of my youth and find ways to play local co op whenever I can, hehe.

I suppose I've been blessed that many of my gaming friends happen to be coworkers (and former students), so we see each other often. I do feel for @Agramonte 's situation, though. Keeping the spirit alive through online play is admirable and also fun.

@ShadJV if only we could still play the previous title (MHXX) localized, that would be perfect. I don't mind nor hate MHW because why should I. Rather, I wish Capcom would also give Nintendo some love (again.)

EDIT: sorry, meant MHXX, not MHWW. XD

Re: Editorial: Trying to Play Monster Hunter XX in Japanese on the Nintendo Switch

@Agramonte I play MH4U and MHG local with 4 friends so voice chat isn't necessary. Honestly hanging out with 4 friends playing MH is one of the best feelings in the world.
I'm not going to buy another PS4 (though i did buy a new TV this holiday) and convince my friends to bring their consoles and TVs just to play local. Online just doesn't feel the same after you hunt locally.

Re: Review: Bloody Zombies (Switch eShop)

SomeWriter13

Reading through the review was quite interesting. The tone went went from glowing to meh in a heartbeat.
I'm disappointed the reviews for this game isn't as good as I hoped. Shame as I'm always on the lookout for 4-player co-ops.

Re: Super Sonic Is Coming to Sonic Forces as DLC

SomeWriter13

@carlos82 like many others, I too skipped the WiiU (and the PS2/PS3 and all XBOX eras as well actually) so yeah I agree with you. I wanted a lot of cool stuff for BotW and I ended up purchasing 7 Zelda-related amiibo.

Looking back at it, I spent a lot for toys that mostly look pretty on my table at work.

The upside to this DLC/bonus model is my younger brother, friends and coworkers all benefit from my amiibo.

(Come to think of it, maybe we should just pool our money for future amiibo, haha.)

Re: ARMS Version 5.0 Is The Last Content Update The Game Will Recieve

SomeWriter13

@vio maybe not as impressive as the others you mentioned, but do take note that those games are Two and Eight of their series respectively. A new title hitting 1.35M (as of September) is no slouch. That's more than a 13% install base.
Tekken 7 on the other hand, came out in June and has surpassed 2M for the PS4 and XBox1. Given the 97.5M units out there, that's around a 2.1% install base. Yet it's considered a hit by the publisher.

Re: WorldNeverland: Elnea Kingdom is Coming to Switch Next Year

@BlakeMorris I have the same gripes as you do! Particularly with your second point, as it would have been cool to "solve" the game purely as a Tailor. Alas, your "fantasy life" still entailed bearing arms. I was hoping for (ahem) tailored storylines for each job as well.

The radial map design makes sense from a castle standpoint, as I imagine it would really be the center of town. From a gaming standpoint, it did require a lot of backtracking. Fortunately I had my trusty Alpaca mount. The side quests being a bit vanilla was mostly bearable because I found the world so cute that anything I could get out of it was great.

I have very fond memories of that game. It was hilarious with fantastic witty dialogue. And shockingly, it was very emotionally moving, as well. I found myself nearly tearing up at some points. It's definitely in my top 3 favorite 3DS games.

Re: ARMS Version 5.0 Is The Last Content Update The Game Will Recieve

SomeWriter13

@Ralek85 right on. While I don't own the game, my friend really enjoys ARMS. And going up to 5.0 is already something to be thankful for in terms of support. As for the sales-vs-development, I'm more inclined to think it's the latter. Maybe Nintendo wants the dev team to work on something new. That sounds quite exciting to me.

Maybe ARMS still has an e-sports future, or maybe Nintendo just wants it to remain a living-room brawler. I can live with either.

@NintenNinja16 those are indeed really good points. I suppose since ARMS came out in the Switch's infancy, it may have been more important to establish a solid base, and it really may be too ambitious to dedicate a lot of long-term resources to. Given the Switch's incredibly impressive upward trend, I do think ARMS 2 (if it gets made) will enjoy a bigger audience (and install base!) and also a bigger roster.

Re: ARMS Version 5.0 Is The Last Content Update The Game Will Recieve

SomeWriter13

@ItalianBaptist actually, A.R.M.S. had sold 1.35M units as of September. (Can't find a more recent figure though) which is not bad considering the established Tekken series entry (#7) has 1.9M spread over two consoles with much-larger install bases. I'd say it did fine. As for its future, that's another thing entirely.

Re: Review: Crawl (Switch eShop)

SomeWriter13

@roadrunner343 in contrast, I love 16-bit style. In my opinion it has a better mix of nostalgia and detail than 8-bit. Sadly, there aren't a lot of new games that use it.

Re: ARMS Version 5.0 Is The Last Content Update The Game Will Recieve

SomeWriter13

@NintenNinja16 I share your opinion. While @Ralek85 noted the difference in the commercial model of OW and ARMS, it seemed like Nintendo implied that ARMS would have e-games potential in the Switch launch videos and event. Constant updates and balance tweaks are a great way to keep interest, and it's sad that ARMS will lack one of those from now on.

Re: WorldNeverland: Elnea Kingdom is Coming to Switch Next Year

SomeWriter13

I can imagine why this would get glowing reviews on mobile. It probably looks fantastic on a phone. On the Switch...maybe not so much.

But why are we knocking this game's "old" graphics when we praise 8-bit style? (Then again I'm pretty biased towards 16-bit style. Love me some Chronotrigger.)

Having said that, I'm more a local coop guy (Portal Knights) than an online player (this game), so this is a pass for me.

Re: Nintendo Switch Reaches 10 Million Global Sales In Its First Nine Months

SomeWriter13

Really good news! I hope this continues and Nintendo manages to build a very large userbase, to keep attracting developers.

Inviting indie developers to come on board early in the console's life really helped set a nice foundation alongside some big studios.

Being pessimistic is fine, but being negative and deliberately dismissive and abrasive isn't good manners. You wouldn't act like that at a party and expect people to stick around you.
