Re: The Internet Is Pouring Some Serious Salt On That PC Port Of Chrono Trigger

Man, hands down my favorite game of all time. I still have the SNES cart of this game (though I'm sure the battery and my saves are long dead by now.)

About 15 years ago I managed to get a ROM and an SNES emulator, and I've been playing that version on and off ever since. If they make a physical copy of the original game (I prefer the old names like Shiva Edge to Suzaku, and Dark Ages to Tranquility, for example) for the Switch or 3DS, I'll definitely buy several copies of the cart.

@RetroGamerAndrew oh no. The review got me a bit pumped up (grinding, loot, local multiplayer) until I saw the rating and your comment. So now I'm not sure.

If I may ask, what parts let you down?

Edit: the MonHun shoutout piqued my interest in particular.

@stevenw45 now imagine several thousand people mashing on those two Game Boys at the same time and you couldn't stop it.

A giant, clusterpoop of sweaty, smelly, hands, just reaching out trying to push the player down a ledge, snickering, smiling, laughing, farting in your face. There is no space to breath, no space to move. You are surrounded by pure chaos (and bellies, because you'll likely be kneeling on the floor as people surround you like a sick, twisted nerd orgy.) Sure, you can beat two games solo, but can you beat off the other players? (OK I meant fight off, but beat off was funnier.)

That's essentially Twitch Plays Pokemon. And it is hilarious. Bird Jesus forevah.

Re: Capcom Sees 36.9% Operating Income Surge, Ultra Street Fighter II On Switch A "Smash Hit"

@DEZn00ts whoa, whoa, calm down. It's not the size of the text (which they said they'll fix on Octopath Traveller, thank goodness) it's the overall layout that concerns me. Would require considerable overhaul of the UI to look good on handheld, and, well, I don't have much faith in Capcom doing anything at the moment.

Text aside, MHW is a really massive game which is taxing even the PS4. So I wouldn't fault Capcom for not bringing it to the (honestly weaker, but still lovely) Switch.

MHXX for the West is another matter, though. I'm upset they have not announced that.

@CaPPa I wish that were the case! But they really went all out on the game design of MHW, and there are a lot of things going on at the same time.

Regarding the areas, they aren't really that "separate" anymore. Many are linked with tunnels and narrow passages, each with its own gathering nodes. I suppose they could move those nodes to other areas, but it would change the layout of the maps. And the monsters can chase you down those passage ways. (Which is quite an exciting experience!)

There's also plenty of bokeh effect for various shots, though I'm sure Capcom can easily remove those.

The menu layout is also really full of text now. (more real estate on the TV screen) which as we've seen on Octopath Traveler Demo's tiny font, is a problem for the Switch. Capcom probably could redesign the layout, though given that it's Capcom, I am not optimistic of that happening. :/

Honestly, if they would just give us localized MonHun XX on Switch (or even 3DS!!!) that would tide me over until a proper MonHun for Switch is developed. Really hoping Capcom is just protecting the MHW hype for a while and will eventually announce MHGU.

After seeing my younger brother play MHW on his PS4, I now understand why Capcom is non-committal about a Switch port. As good as our beloved Nintendo console is, I really doubt there is a way for it to run MHW, even with toned down graphics.

The size of the game is just too much, unfortunately.

MHGU would be a safer bet, but Capcom has been maddeningly non-committal about that, as well.
