I still really like the feel of the Wiimotes. When a game was designed to take advantage of them, there was a real difference. I'll also admit to enjoying sparingly used waggle controls. For games like Galaxy, the Zeldas, Metroid Prime, and maybe Pikmin, the pointing or waggling had a nice impact.
This situation is completely ridiculous on both sides. Shame on the guy for how he's acting and shame on Nintendo for such ridiculous moderation. If someone is really that bothered by "poo", I just wonder how they live. I will agree that "poo" does make me uncomfortable for a little while though. Also, does this mean that a level called "Level Number 2" could be taken down? It's sad to think that could definitely be the case...
Can we not delve into the Wind Waker initial reaction argument? That was due to the tone and visuals of the game (silly and cartoonish), not the gameplay. People can make a reasonable guess as to what Color Splash will be from what was presented and they don't think it's what they're looking for. We won't be completely sure, of course, until the game hits shelves, but so far doesn't seem to indicate that it's straying too far from what Sticker Star established. There's some hope, but it's not doing anything to indicate otherwise either.
@WhiteTrashGuy: I don't think you realize that Monolith Soft helped with Skyward Sword and ALBW as well as AC:NL, Pikmin 3, and Splatoon. It's not a new thing for them to help Nintendo develop games. The comment on "Bethesda of the East" is open to a few thousand interpretations, but an easy one is "we want to make large scale RPG's of a high pedigree in our own interpretation of the genre". Monolith Soft is more "Western" in style than Square-Enix, but their games are still have very different approach to game design. I can tell you, we aren't waiting on The Zelder Scrolls to come out, but I large scale marrying of the original Zelda and ALBW in terms of progression (with some differences, but comparable), Skyward Sword and Wind Waker in terms of map exploration (with potential parallels to Shadow of the Colossus' map exploration, but with enemies). Going off of the footage and information so far, that should be close, although the game is subject to change.
"I didn't know that every American Indian dressed up in this way and carried a Tomahawk. Thank you Bravely Second for informing me that all American Indians are exactly this way and did not have varying jobs and purposes in their society."
If there are people who actually think this way or think that the game is suggesting this, then there is a problem.
You know what prediction that he did make that was wrong? He never got into Smash. I'm calling BS on this rumor though. Cramming all of the components into a Gamepad-sized controller may be possible, but the weight, battery consumption, cost, and potential cooling make this seem far-fetched to me. I'm not even on the whole "Hybrid" train in regards to the NX. And I will say, those analogue sticks terrify me.
I will definitely be grabbing Pikmin 3. The 3D World and Tropical Freeze are pretty appealing at that price. OoT 3D is getting a maybe from me. This is the best news Nintendo has put out in a while, actually meeting market demand with a good deal to boot.
Eh. Environment and lighting effects, pretty good (and a part of the engine I assume). The modeling by the guy, his camera placement, character animation, and the lighting (in terms of playability), pretty awful. The environment is mostly good, the bridge, castle, and lightning being my biggest issue. It's okay, decent when still, terrifying in motion.
I'm definitely getting some The Last Story vibes from the art ( from the hands, forearms, weapons, boots, and weird fabric hanging to the side to be specific). I wouldn't mind seeing them expand on what they did in that game, I'd probably be Day One on it.
I've put a ton of hours into the first game and I'm still not done with it. I have my issues with the game (not sure if it's my fault or the game's), but I have enjoyed it. With this glowing review, I'll definitely consider picking this game up though.
I can't believe Nintendo included Wario in this game. Until Wario is removed, I refuse to buy this game. He is vulgar, encourages flatulence, promotes obesity, growth defects and greed, yet Nintendo presents him as such an attractive, sexy individual. This is where the corruption of society begins. Wario seeks to undermine the perfect society that we have created and Nintendo willingly allows him to continue corrupting our youths. Please, join my cause to remove Wario from this game and stem the corrupting tide which flows from him! (This is probably trying too hard, but maybe it'll give someone a good chuckle.)
It's simple. Localization and censorship are two different things, but censorship can be an aspect of localization. Localization is more or less translation, taking something understandable in one culture (language, symbols, etc.) and then making it understandable in another culture. Censorship is specifically when the localization changes or omits something that culture (socially or legally) views as unacceptable. The issue has been that people are using them as justification words: "I don't like this, so it's censorship." or "I like this, so it's localization."
I can't call myself a fan of the redesign, It's got that "blown up mobile app" feel to it and I'm not a fan of the stark white spaces that take up large portions of the screen or the comments section sitting on the right side of the screen. I'm curious to see how you refine it over time, but for desktop users, keep in mind fitting a large amount of information comfortably and visually grouped it better than having to search for everything by scrolling around. I'm extremely happy about the lack of video ads so far though. I might not need to repeatedly kill Adobe Flash player to use this site now.
If I ever buy this game, I would get it through the special edition, but that seems off the cards now. I'm curious to see how some of the new mechanics will affect the game (and hopefully improve it from the mess that was Awakening) and if the map designers have developed any understanding of a good map (rather than the large, empty field randomly dotted with enemies approach), but I don't know if I'll get to. I still have reservations, the seemingly short development period, Tomes having the upper hand on Bows (the 1-2 range weapon having an advantage over the dedicated 2 range weapon), the continued lack of a Magic Triangle, and the large number of maps (which hopefully won't embrace the Awakening map design style), and what seems like a decrease in management aspects of the game. Maybe, if they reprint the whole physical version and some of the people I know disliked Awakening enjoy it, I'll get it.
I just want to know how much of the game budget went into those models/animations. For such a minor, side thing, it seems like they paid a pretty penny for those. I'm glad to see some of the weird-fanservice junk getting removed from the game, not that that will improve the core gameplay mechanics. Awakening was definitely a case of a series, more or less, selling its soul for popularity, but now it seems like the series is just going off the deep end. I'll remain cautiously optimistic, about the series, but I get the feeling I'll be stepping off.
@TingLz: I doubt this will do anything to change your mind, but complacency or just not caring about something you are, as part of a larger group, affecting is pretty reckless. Keep in mind that your choices do have, at least to a degree, an effect on where the game industry, and Nintendo in particular, goes and just not caring could take the game industry in a direction you despise. At least, while waiting in line at the register, or while being harassed about getting a Gamestop subscription and shaking your head, briefly consider what business practices your purchases may be supporting.
What amiibo is for someone depends on why they're buying it. Some people buy them simply because they want a figurine of some video game character, and couldn't care less about the microchip inside the figure (I'd imagine there are even some who own the figures without a Wii U or New 3DS), and for others, they only want the chip in the figure (and could even see the figure itself as unnecessary clutter). So, for some, amiibo is quite literally $13+ DLC, while also, for others, being "a freaking figure".
If I was going to pick up a copy of this game, I'd pick of the SE version, but I plan on waiting to see fan reactions to the game (because Awakening completely shattered my trust in the series). If opinions were favorable enough, I'd pick up the SE version. Doesn't seem like I'll be picking this game up unless Nintendo gets the idea that not everyone intermittently checks for the ability to pre-order something every 30 minutes or so, and may want to buy a product at a later date. I hope it's a good game, I hope y'all enjoy it, but I'm doubting Nintendo will get any of my money from it.
@Socar: It's not like the game is available anywhere outside of Japan. Even if you bought a copy secondhand, that money would not be going to Nintendo. If you absolutely want to play the game legally (although laws may be different in your country), your best bet would be to buy a secondhand copy from Japan, use a device to copy the ROM data, patch the ROM data, and play the games on an emulator. As long as you don't distribute the ROM files with friends or something, at least in the US, it's legal.
@YorkshireNed: That would not have been the case, at all. Lin could have been somewhat problematic (and to be honest, I'm not bothered by the censorship at all, except that it looks stupid/ridiculous when she's wearing a bikini over a bikini/bra) but, this game isn't a high profile release so few people would have actually noticed as long as Nintendo didn't advertise a bikini-donning 13 year old as a main feature (and it isn't). I can get Nintendo trying to completely avoid stirring up anything about it, but no store is going to refuse to stock the game unless they feared they would lose profit by stocking it (which would require a MASSIVE controversy). They probably got more attention along with a few attaboys from a handful of people by censoring her. The breast slider was a non-issue. Plenty of games have them, said games aren't currently being boycotted, and all it did was draw more attention to it. If you go to Google and type in "boob slider", your first page of results is almost entirely about how it was removed from this game, not about the other games which do feature one.
I've found these Western interpretations of Link to be interesting. I liked the one previously shown (343 Studios) one for it's distict "Hobbit-esqe" take on Link. This one, I'm not the biggest fan of the face, but otherwise an interesting interpretation. I can't say I'd want this Link in a game (I'd need a full pitch in this artstyle), but as an individual image, I like it.
Linkle (please change that name) could be an interesting side/support character. I'd be interested to see what Nintendo could do with that. I'm not giving her any support in replacing Link at any point though.
I can't say this game looks great, but no this game looks much better than a PS2 game. The sharp angles have produced a kind of low-poly appearance, and some areas are visually anemic, almost disturbingly uneventful and clean, but that desert landmaster scene looks great. Hit and miss so far, but to call them PS2 graphics, you should get an express ticket to an acting class.
They are using sharper textures, but this is much more of a port than a complete remaster/remake. I'll wait on reviews to see if they've made any worthwhile changes, but I still doubt I'll buy it. Seems to be the least of this generation's Zelda remakes.
Considering her age, that outfit, and the fact that they are pursuing a T rating for this game, I can understand the reasoning behind this fairly well. I wouldn't call this a case of censorship for the sake of censorship, as we saw with Fatal Frame.
Just a recommendation to all of the commenters; If you are going to drop your email, don't put the address down directly, chances are a spambot, phisher, etc. will start sending emails. Formatting it like so:
I can't say I completely understand the entire situation (or copyright laws for that matter), but good grief, seems pretty harsh. I get that the Pokemon Company has to protect its IP, but going straight to court and denying a payment plan, absolutely harsh. I'm predisposed to support a single individual over a large business, but even then, I just can't follow the motivations here, except "Let's screw this guy over." Heck, people were paying for a party, and it was simply themed around Pokemon. Seems pretty murky to me. I can get a company protecting itself, but how they responded seems unnecessary. I'd definitely like to see this murky area of copyright/IP defined, giving support to people creating content based around or events themed around certain IP, while still protecting company IP at higher levels, but I can't say I understand much of law at all.
Eh, I can't say I like this. User generated content for a free game doesn't really bother me, but when developers are doing it without any known consent and plastering if up on their Twitter falls a bit past "fun little homage" into "hey look uninformed consumer, Disney Infinity 3.0 also comes with Splatoon" territory. I wouldn't call this sue-worthy (especially considering Disney's lawyers), but Nintendo should at least give a strong "suggestion" for Disney to not promote the game with it.
I'm glad law enforcement was able to prevent anything from happening. Hopefully these idiots will receive a more than adequate punishment. I hate it, but I'm sure the media will drum up some controversy following this. I imagine Hatred will get the blame this time around. At least there was no opportunity for anyone to be hurt though.
I won't be able to participate (I don't own Splatoon) and I've never been a fan of Transformers, but this is a fairly neat and clever promotion. Y'all have fun.
I'm not going to agree with Sakurai here. This may seem like a minor aspect to the gameplay (and if I actually ever get this game, I plan to avoid it) but I can imagine a hefty amount of resources were required to put it in the game. High quality models and animation, seemingly unique voice clips (writing and voice actors), and at least a bit of separate programming (although I can't imagine it being too much) for however many characters are in this game. I'm sure the money and resources used could have been put to better uses.
Well, I was grinning like an idiot for most of that video. As long as the script is as funny as this year's, I'd be glad to see the puppets come back again.
@Yorumi: It wouldn't be as simple as you are making it sound. Zelda Maker is possible, but the difficulty of it is in making a tool that is easy to use and understand. The challenge of developing the game would be in making a UI that would be simple enough for anyone to understand it, yet still offer robust enough capabilities to build a fun Zelda... something. It would be the process of simplifying this into something as simple as this. It's possible, as Valve changed to process of making a Source map from this to this (although at the cost of many of the capabilities of the Hammer editor). That's the challenge of making a Zelda Maker (although I still consider it completely possible).
The other concern is why Nintendo would create Zelda Maker. Would it be a viable product to sell like Mario Maker? Would it allow for Nintendo to expand the content available in their current games through user generated content like Bethesda's Creation Kit (which just looks like a released version of their own development software)? Why does it need to exist?
@Yorumi: I'm assuming Bethesda's Creation Kit is the tools used to make their games and so people can create Fallout 4 mods. I may be completely wrong about this, but I'm not in the mood to do research. I doubt they simplified the tools into a simple, easy to use UI. With tools like Portal 2's level creation tool (not-Hammer), Zelda Maker should be completely possible to make, but would require far more dedication from the user to get anything out of it than something like Mario Maker or Portal 2's level creator. I doubt it would be a viable product for Nintendo.
As beneficial as Early Access can be, it usually just results in a flood of crappy games being released. If Nintendo is going to pursue an Early Access program, they are going to have to heavily supervise it.
Well, I'm playing the original Thief right now (and will be following it up with the rest of the original trilogy) and bought System Shock 2 and Deus Ex along with them this Steam Summer Sale (without realizing that they all basically came from the same group of people). It's nice to hear from one of the influences behind the games I am and will be playing. The insight from Specter was very interesting and meaty. I'd be happy to see another interview of him. He has certainly earned some of my respect.
@DESS-M-8: Reggie's statement, that VR isn't fun, isn't a fact and is about as far from being a fact as something can be. It's an opinion. Many other individuals clearly enjoy using VR, their opinion. Contrary to your statement, Reggie is insulting current pursuits of VR. He says "but at least based on what I've seen to date, it's not fun, and it's not social. It's just tech". The key here is the last sentence, "It's just tech". He's stating that current VR pursuits are nothing more than a display of technology. He's belittling and simplifying them through that word, "just". There's no reason for one of the head representatives of a company to subtly attack other companies for trying something. VR isn't very suitable for Nintendo. It's costly to develop, still has some issues to iron out, and appears to have limited potential outside of First Person games. I won't fault Nintendo for not pursuing it, but I will fault Reggie's unprofessional behavior for trying to put others down for pursuing it.
Sony, Microsoft, Facebook (by buying Occulus ), and Valve (in partnership with another company) are all investing in VR. Those are some big names and wallets all investing in the technology. If Nintendo doesn't find it to be a financially viable pursuit, then they can say that, but to insult it is childish.
I don't necessarily understand why 9 and 10 aren't being included, but it at least makes since for 7 and 8. They're rebuilding the games on a new engine, not just emulating the ROMs. I'll probably grab this during a Steam sale. By "HD Graphics" I think that they are talking about various graphical oddities in the Mega Man games, such as the flickering/invisible sprites and the effect near the edge of the screen on scrolling levels. While there is some charm in those glitches, the games will be much more playable without them.
EDIT: After watching the trailer, it seems like they will be adding some HD effects to the game. I'm not entirely sure.
@Yorumi: Trust me, I'm going to miss the management element of Fire Emblem if I get this game. That was simply to explain how they are at least balancing it.
I'm interested in this change, but I don't think Magic should be superior to bows. Mages are a far more versatile and powerful ranged unit anyway, so giving them superiority in ranged combat is going to make archers useless, unless their stats are changed to give them a very different purpose.
Ummm... what now? Phoenix mode isn't going to ease any player into the game or teach them anything. Good level design and a smooth difficulty curve will. All that's going to do is encourage a player new to the series is not learn anything and develop some bad habits, since they aren't going to be punished for anything. I can understand infinite weapon uses to a degree. They hardly matter in an nonlinear Fire Emblem game, since you can just grind money and buy better weapons between maps, but it still balanced out weaker and stronger weapons. The entire weapon system is going to need some MAJOR restructuring in this game. I'm interested to see what happens, but rather scared. It seems like IS is loading down the new games with systems and trying to make each game different, but abandoning some of the fundamental aspects that made the previous games fun, well designed experiences.

The sharp angles have produced a kind of low-poly appearance, and some areas are visually anemic, almost disturbingly uneventful and clean, but that desert landmaster scene looks great. Hit and miss so far, but to call them PS2 graphics, you should get an express ticket to an acting class.
Re: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Is Receiving A High-Definition Face Lift
They are using sharper textures, but this is much more of a port than a complete remaster/remake. I'll wait on reviews to see if they've made any worthwhile changes, but I still doubt I'll buy it. Seems to be the least of this generation's Zelda remakes.
Re: Nintendo Is Making Female Characters Cover Up For The Western Version Of Xenoblade Chronicles X
Considering her age, that outfit, and the fact that they are pursuing a T rating for this game, I can understand the reasoning behind this fairly well. I wouldn't call this a case of censorship for the sake of censorship, as we saw with Fatal Frame.
Re: Yes, Fatal Frame's Lingerie Outfits Have Been Removed From The Western Version
I'll just say this, only because Nintendo (of America) removed the lingerie outfits do I even know now that they were in the game in the first place.

Just a recommendation to all of the commenters; If you are going to drop your email, don't put the address down directly, chances are a spambot, phisher, etc. will start sending emails. Formatting it like so:

Re: The Pokémon Company Sues Fan for Copyright Infringement, Demands $4,000 in Damages
Re: Disney Infinity 3.0's Toy Box Mode Offers Blatant Splatoon Clone
Eh, I can't say I like this. User generated content for a free game doesn't really bother me, but when developers are doing it without any known consent and plastering if up on their Twitter falls a bit past "fun little homage" into "hey look uninformed consumer, Disney Infinity 3.0 also comes with Splatoon" territory. I wouldn't call this sue-worthy (especially considering Disney's lawyers), but Nintendo should at least give a strong "suggestion" for Disney to not promote the game with it.
Re: Potential Massacre Averted At Pokémon World Championships
I'm glad law enforcement was able to prevent anything from happening. Hopefully these idiots will receive a more than adequate punishment. I hate it, but I'm sure the media will drum up some controversy following this. I imagine Hatred will get the blame this time around. At least there was no opportunity for anyone to be hurt though.
Re: It's Autobots vs Decepticons in the Upcoming Transformers Splatfest
I won't be able to participate (I don't own Splatoon) and I've never been a fan of Transformers, but this is a fairly neat and clever promotion. Y'all have fun.
Re: Masahiro Sakurai Tackles Criticisms of Bonus Features in Games
I'm not going to agree with Sakurai here. This may seem like a minor aspect to the gameplay (and if I actually ever get this game, I plan to avoid it) but I can imagine a hefty amount of resources were required to put it in the game. High quality models and animation, seemingly unique voice clips (writing and voice actors), and at least a bit of separate programming (although I can't imagine it being too much) for however many characters are in this game. I'm sure the money and resources used could have been put to better uses.
Re: Nintendo Wraps Up Another Patent Win in Defence of the DS and 3DS
Can someone please get a patent on patent trolling and take all of these patent trolls to court for infringing on that patent?
Joking aside, I'm so sick of hearing about these things. Good on Nintendo's legal team for making another patent troll waste their money.

@link422007: You're already late, but you'll be "inb4" this one:

Re: Video: Shigeru Miyamoto Visits Jim Henson Studios
Well, I was grinning like an idiot for most of that video. As long as the script is as funny as this year's, I'd be glad to see the puppets come back again.
Re: Super Mario Maker Producer Tells Fans Not To Expect Zelda Maker Any Time Soon
Re: Super Mario Maker Producer Tells Fans Not To Expect Zelda Maker Any Time Soon
Re: Nintendo Is "Exploring" The Idea Of Early Access Games On Its Consoles
As beneficial as Early Access can be, it usually just results in a flood of crappy games being released. If Nintendo is going to pursue an Early Access program, they are going to have to heavily supervise it.
Re: Interview: Warren Spector Discusses Game Choices, Development Leadership and Shigeru Miyamoto
Re: The Current State Of Virtual Reality Just Isn't Fun, Says Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime Â
Re: The Current State Of Virtual Reality Just Isn't Fun, Says Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime Â
Re: Super Mario Maker Will Allow You to Unlock amiibo Mystery Suits for Figures You Don't Own
Well, this is already the best use of amiibo to me. Not excluding anyone, but still essentially rewarding the buyers.
Re: Capcom Reveals E3 Plans and Mega Man Legacy Collection for 3DS
Re: Fire Emblem If Changes The Traditional Weapons Triangle
@Yorumi: Trust me, I'm going to miss the management element of Fire Emblem if I get this game. That was simply to explain how they are at least balancing it.
Re: Fire Emblem If Changes The Traditional Weapons Triangle
@Yorumi: The way that weapons act is a bit more unusual and different. This is, according to Serenes Forest, how it's going to work:
Bronze Sword: Cannot critical, but boosts Critical Evade by 10
Iron Sword: Nothing special
Steel Sword: Avoid -5, double attack threshold -3
Silver Sword: Critical Evade -5; after using, Strength and Skill -2 until next turn
Brave Sword: Allows 2 consecutive attacks, Defence and Resistance -4
But yeah. I'm still giving it the benefit of the doubt for now, but I'm very cautious toward it.
Re: Fire Emblem If Changes The Traditional Weapons Triangle
I'm interested in this change, but I don't think Magic should be superior to bows. Mages are a far more versatile and powerful ranged unit anyway, so giving them superiority in ranged combat is going to make archers useless, unless their stats are changed to give them a very different purpose.
Re: Famitsu Reveals Some Fresh Details on Fire Emblem If
Ummm...
