@rushiosan @Blizzia: Y'all should know that some of those glitches are frame and pixel perfect. There are glitchless categories for a reason.

Not to add a somewhat cynical side to this as well, but it should also be understood that a large portion of Nintendo's primary market would be unable to see the Direct currently. I really enjoyed the original. The sequel less so (had to play on keyboard). Runner 3 looks good and there hasn't been a ton announced about it, but I just hope that enough additions have been made to justify the game. Runner 2 definitely did.
Considering how Valve operates, that meeting could have been about anything. While there's a possibility that Valve was looking to see if Steam could be the digital distribution platform for Nintendo, given Newell's obvious respect and admiration for the company (see interviews) and Valve's general style of doing whatever it wants to do (including partnering with J.J. Abrams for... something), this could have very well have been about anything.
Optimization is a far more complex matter than anyone in this comments section seems to be making it out to be. I imagine this is far more than just "lazy code." I don't really know how much manpower went into this game, but considering it was an indie team on a limited budget working on a game with no guarantee of success, optimization on the level of something like Breath of the Wild was never on the table. I'd expect is has far more to do with poor world layout for optimization or something to do with LOD. I somewhat suspect the visually simplistic style of the game might be so they didn't have to create assets at various levels of detail while still getting just good enough performance to release the game on consoles (that is PS4 and XB1).
Their answer was absolutely proper, they explained the reason why the game runs as it does and explained the reasoning behind their decision. They didn't blame the console, and made no excuses. And as far as I'm concerned, releasing it, even in this poor state, was a better choice. There would have been just as many comments complaining and criticizing them if they had canceled the Switch version citing performance issues. Just as many claims of them being lazy devs would have been made. At the very least, as long as the consumer is informed in their decision to purchase the game, the consumer at least has the option to purchase the game.
While I don't really understand fully what this group of people will be discussing, it seems like limiting it to just those who are good in tournaments wouldn't be the best course of action anyway. Pros aren't always the best at knowing how to grow interest in the thing they enjoy. I don't know all of these player's backgrounds, but adding more people or people who are going to have different opinions is probably going to lead to the most fruitful conversation. So honestly, I don't see why they just can't add a few more chairs and let those credible individuals in as well.
I like my N3DS to a degree (was one of the lucky individuals who scooped up the Black Friday one), except my D-pad is really finicky with diagonals (although maybe that will wear down with time and start to feel better) and a tad mushy. My biggest problem is that the screen my unit has suffers from EXTREME ghosting/motion blur.
@MarioBrax: Is that it? You can get all 126 functionally different weapons for $1 or less, easily. And even then, the default primary weapon is usually the best overall. Only the secondary and melee slots matter. Everything else was either cosmetic, counted kills, or was dirt cheap (weapons) through trading.
@psycho_punch: The fact that they're also blocking Rocket League seems proof enough that there is more to this than you're suggesting. I find it unlikely that Rocket League's creators would be using Microsoft of Xbox Live to provide this service or would require an Xbox Live account. So yes, this is probably little more than a more than Sony's decision to hold it's player-base captive to its platform.
The lighting, a few textures, and the way objects in the background move are the few graphical things that bother me. The game has a kind of "early PS3 game look" (albeit a bit better) to put it simply. I'm not all that concerned about the gameplay. From everything I've heard, Iga is a good developer. My only concern is that "20% complete" figure he offered. His budget isn't going to last forever and once it's about out, the game is either going to suffer from cut content and potentially rushed content.
At this stage in its lifetime, it could honestly add more than four games a year. All of the nominees will likely, at some point, find their way in. I didn't quite get why Halo made it in at first, but the explanation was more than valid (basically, one of the first shooters to become popular on console, launch of Xbox, online gaming).
I honestly can't blame Nintendo on this one. While glitches and glitch levels open up awesome potential and can be really fun, such exploits can just as easily be abused or mishandled in ways that would ruin the fun of the game. It sucks, but it seems necessary. And I mean, honestly, with the number of troll levels, would anyone really want to be subjected to a troll level which also had glitches at its disposal?
I feel like the standard sized New 3DS would be just as viable as an "in-between", but apparently this model was determined as a necessary worldwide thing. I like it, but I'd rather not have to concern myself with protecting my N3DS from damage or significant wear, since it would be difficult and expensive to replace...
I'm still calling BS on this. Sure, Nintendo doesn't have "unlimited" resources, but they have more than enough to produce enough of this product to meet the obviously unmet demand. When a company isn't producing more of a product that they KNOW is still in high demand, it means there is more value in its discontinuation to them. Unless this had to do with licensing, this is fully on Nintendo. As for me, I'm disappointed. I would have enjoyed owning one of these things, but more than anything, I just want one of those controllers. Can we at least have those?
I had a really strange experience with this creature. I had heard about it on the internet, but my first hike up the mountain happened to be one of the times he appeared. I mounted him fairly easily and started making my way down the mountain with him. A thunderstorm had rolled in, and as I reached the base of the mountain, as the Lord of the Mountain carried me at a full sprint, I was struck by lightning and thrown from him. Naturally, he vanished, and I simply tried to understand what had happened. I was not wearing any metal and no sparks had appeared before I was struck. The lightning barely damaged me. I couldn't help but wonder if nature itself had prevented me from taking that creature from its sacred mountain.
I feel like r/place deserves a mention. It's obviously just due to user input, but Nintendo is getting some massive representation there. Just be careful, there are some less family friendly things there.
Shield surfing (without a sand seal) is also surprisingly viable in the desert. You have to use the gentle slopes of dunes to your advantage and stay in the troughs between dunes, but it's a surprisingly fast, challenging, and fun method for navigating the desert.
For anyone who hasn't played the game, don't forget that you can still download the original version of the game from the internet (http://www.cavestory.org/download/cave-story.php). It obviously has the original (more pixelated) graphics and audio, but it's still a solid way to experience the game (any I'm still prefer the original soundtrack over most of the remixes). That said, if you haven't played this game, go play it right now. I've lost count of the number of times I've replayed it, but I'd estimate around 12-13 times. It's worth it, original or ported.
And if the idea of not being able to play with a controller puts you off, as long as your computer has Bluetooth connectivity and you have a Wiimote, you can use a program called GlovePIE to play it with a Wiimote. I can help if you're having trouble setting it up.
My 3DS is so stable now that it upgraded itself to a New 3DS with Super-Stable 3D. If any of you who own(ed) a New 3DS find that it has disappeared, just assume it has ascended to a higher plane of stability. To reach the level of stability it needed, it had to move beyond this unstable world. Give it your best wishes on its journey to complete stability.

Will be pushing to keep Ike and Lyn in their first place positions. I was rooting for Ike since he's the emblem of my favorite games. Lyn is denying a Fates/Awakening character from winning, so while I haven't played FE7, I'm completely down with a classic-series character taking the win.
I'm always a fan of this. Loved it with Square PS1 games, the Grandia II Dreamcast case might be my absolute favorite case to ever hold a game. Hope this will be the norm.
I still don't entirely understand what "HD Rumble" is. Is it simply rumble that can be localized to specific parts of the controller? Can it simulate the feeling of various surfaces and temperatures. I'm a huge fan of rumble and generally on board with the idea, but I still don't entirely understand what the heck it is.
@dodgethis : Even a playground has rules, and I recommend that you brush up on this one's. Heck, I'll even direct you to the most relevant ones:

If your goal is to get placed in the permanent time-out corner, you're well on you way. You can probably get there by this week's end if you keep up the pace. You have a fairly impressive control of language. Reasonably clear voice, somewhat confusing tone. Just use it to add a bit to the topic at hand rather than lashing out at the users in this comment section and you'd be a nice addition to our little argumentative family.
(Sorry to you, mods, if I'm unwelcomely trying to do your job for you. Let me know if you'd prefer that I restrain from this kind of activity in the future.)
Stock markets are a silly and fickle thing, but with the money at risk and the nature of how the market overreacts (you should simply sell if you think other stock owners are going to start selling), it's understandable that these kinds of things happen. The pre-orders and public perception (beyond our Nintendo bubble) are the best sources we have of gauging the Switch's potential success at the moment. What I'm seeing right now is that Nintendo is failing to gain the support of its core fanbase, muddling the message of what kind of console the Switch is meant to be, and making a reasonably appealing piece of hardware (but which has a lot to prove) more expensive than the already popular PS4 and XB1. There's a lot going against it, and the attitude that it's going to fail might just bring that very prediction to fruition. I'll be curious to see where it goes from here.
Also, to point out something obvious but interesting, that long shot at the end was an obvious reference to the Title Screen and Box Art of the original. From the tilt of the Monado, the grassy field and the towering figure in the distance. Curious to see where they'll take this game though.
Glad to see this here. Hopefully there's nowhere near the wait between announcement and release as XCX. Not sold on the character art, but it's Xenoblade. This basically means that I have to buy a Switch.
When it comes down to it, I just want to play a good game. Nintendo needs to find a better method to handling these fan games than a C&D letter though. That's a ton of man hours put into quality games that are appealing to some audiences more than the latest titles in those respective series (in the cases of AM2R and Project M, specifically). The only thing this is accomplishing is turning hype and eagerness for something into anger and negativity toward Nintendo. I understand that Nintendo has to do this under law, but they still could have let the full version slip out then promptly C&D'ed it. I gave them the benefit of the doubt due to how AM2R went down. I even understand that it's difficult to set a precedent on handling these matters by other means, but that effort to do so could make some great games much more accessible, reward the company, and reward the hard work of these developers. That sounds like a win to me.
I have to take a moment and point out the true irony in this. Most of the people who are suggesting that these developers should just "make it their own thing" would likely be the same people who would condemn the game for being "a blatant clone with no originality" if they actually took their advice. It would be better if he hadn't been taking donations, although I don't know if he was asking/making accommodations to specifically allow for it. I'm glad he just wants to make an enjoyable game for a ton of people. There has to be something more than seeking profit to be working on a game for eight years knowing it'll have to be released for free. I hate that it had to get shut down so close to completion though.
Nintendo needs to keep rolling out content. There isn't that much right now and the game will quickly fall out of attention otherwise. Just adding more levels occasionally could keep the game pretty fresh and interesting. There's only so much 24 levels can do... You collect the coins three times and then learn the optimal route in Toad rally. You grind that for a while, then what?
Well, I just realized that FTL: Faster Than Light (Advanced Edition) and XCOM: Enemy Within are both $10 on the App Store. Those are both premium quality games with hours of content and near limitless replayablility. Yes, both of these games are considerably more niche, but set the bar astronomically higher for what $10 on the App Store should be. That and $10 can go a lot further, without sales, on Steam. When you look at it through those lenses, Super Mario Run is, in its current state, certainly overpriced.
If the game continues to receive support (new levels, options, etc.), I think the $10 price tag could be justifiable. As it stands, if I could buy this game, I'd certainly pick it up for $5, but think $7.50 would still be reasonable. Shame on Nintendo for blocking off Apple Family Share though.
This looks like Google cardboard, but if it's a 720p screen and a massive, not so light piece of hardware, then this will easily be some of the worst VR tech on the market. Hope this venture isn't pursued, it can only lead to disappointment.
Look, any website can post some garbage rumor to bring in the ad revenue. With how questionable the article already is, let's not give it any validity. The Switch has had positive reception from Third Parties so far (although the Wii U also had that), but this is in response to the next console coming from a company that just released an absolute flop of a console rather than the Wii. We'll have a better idea come Jan. 12th/13th, but it's silly to treat this as true. It's reasonable to expect the Switch to be somewhere between the XB1 and PS4 in tech, but where it will fall is hard to determine.
@jimi: I wouldn't use platinum rates as a good indication of difficulty. The demographic that Dark Souls appeals to are the people looking for a challenge. The people who are going to play Dark Souls 2 are the kind of people who are looking for and enjoy facing challenges, so they'd be more likely to pursue that Platinum Trophy. On the other hand, Uncharted is getting bundled with most PS4s right now and has broader appeal. People are going to be content playing through the story once and won't find any need to get Platinum. I'm not here to debate you on anything else, but that's a flawed point.
If this happened and the rest of the Switch library looks good, this could bring me to purchase a Switch far sooner than I've been considering. It'll be interesting to see what comes from it.
I only played the first one and I'm a bit surprised to see yet another game coming out, but BOXBOY was a brilliant little game. I honesly wouldn't mind seeing an occasional, small release, but I can see how you can run out of ideas for it.

Re: Investors React Negatively to Nintendo Switch Launch Details
Re: Guide: A Breakdown of Confirmed Nintendo Switch Games and Release Dates
I'm really happy to see Syberia 3 in the listing. If I can't have a good rig in time for it, the Switch might end up being my way of playing it.
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Is Currently in Development
Also, to point out something obvious but interesting, that long shot at the end was an obvious reference to the Title Screen and Box Art of the original. From the tilt of the Monado, the grassy field and the towering figure in the distance. Curious to see where they'll take this game though.
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Is Currently in Development
Glad to see this here. Hopefully there's nowhere near the wait between announcement and release as XCX. Not sold on the character art, but it's Xenoblade. This basically means that I have to buy a Switch.
Re: Masahiro Sakurai's Recent Toy Purchase Is Related To His Current Project
Well, it sounds like there might be more to Project Giant Robot than we expected.
Re: Fan-Made Pokémon Prism Game Leaks Online After Nintendo Shutdown Notice
@Syrek24: Funny how some of those developers get started. http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/halloweenhack/halloweenhack.htm
Re: Nintendo Has No Plans For Additional Super Mario Run Content
Nintendo needs to keep rolling out content. There isn't that much right now and the game will quickly fall out of attention otherwise. Just adding more levels occasionally could keep the game pretty fresh and interesting. There's only so much 24 levels can do... You collect the coins three times and then learn the optimal route in Toad rally. You grind that for a while, then what?
Re: The Era of Meme-Filled 'Parody' Runners on Wii U Isn't Over - Here's Zombie Brigade
Well, they beat Meme Run at it's own game...
Re: Review: Super Mario Run (Mobile)
Well, I just realized that FTL: Faster Than Light (Advanced Edition) and XCOM: Enemy Within are both $10 on the App Store. Those are both premium quality games with hours of content and near limitless replayablility. Yes, both of these games are considerably more niche, but set the bar astronomically higher for what $10 on the App Store should be. That and $10 can go a lot further, without sales, on Steam. When you look at it through those lenses, Super Mario Run is, in its current state, certainly overpriced.
Re: Review: Super Mario Run (Mobile)
If the game continues to receive support (new levels, options, etc.), I think the $10 price tag could be justifiable. As it stands, if I could buy this game, I'd certainly pick it up for $5, but think $7.50 would still be reasonable. Shame on Nintendo for blocking off Apple Family Share though.
Re: Nintendo Switch Patent Provides Insights Into VR Accessory and Console Touchscreen
This looks like Google cardboard, but if it's a 720p screen and a massive, not so light piece of hardware, then this will easily be some of the worst VR tech on the market. Hope this venture isn't pursued, it can only lead to disappointment.
Re: The Nintendo Switch Power Debate is Back - Report Suggests It Won't Quite Match PS4
Re: Rumour: Dark Souls 3 and Trilogy Possible on Nintendo Switch, If System Sales Are Solid
Re: Rumour: Dark Souls 3 and Trilogy Possible on Nintendo Switch, If System Sales Are Solid
If this happened and the rest of the Switch library looks good, this could bring me to purchase a Switch far sooner than I've been considering. It'll be interesting to see what comes from it.
Re: Goodbye! BOXBOY! Has Been Announced for Nintendo 3DS
I only played the first one and I'm a bit surprised to see yet another game coming out, but BOXBOY was a brilliant little game. I honesly wouldn't mind seeing an occasional, small release, but I can see how you can run out of ideas for it.
