Dang! I need to see how some of the other characters in The Last Story play before the servers go down. This seems way to early to be shutting servers down, the huge majority of people haven't migrated yet.
@Frapp: Rare sold themselves out, so I don't understand what you're even trying to say. Retro is a different company from Rare, so stop expecting one thing out of something different.
I'm not very impressed by the level design, even if this is only supposed to be World 2. Also, why the heck does this game visually look worse than it's predecessor?
Is this going to be Nintendo's new strategy? They should have already learned that the Blue Ocean is only a temporary solution. Why didn't the slew of "gamers" they brought in with the Wii move to the Wii U? Stop creating markets and letting others take them over; You have to use brute force if you want to keep a market.
It's been confirmed this has online play since they showed a chatbox within the first few seconds of the first trailer. I'm more concerned that these urgent job postings are for such important aspects of the game.
My mother's uncle's nephew's pet jellyfish's cousin's sister's uncle's owner's best friend's co-worker's sister, who works at Nintendo said Zelda U, Metroid Prime 4, and Ice Climbers would be revealed tomorrow.
Ugh... that Super Inhale ability or whatever looks terrible. I don't want to be forced to hold a button to watch a cutscene, or engage in the activity of solving obvious puzzles by pushing blocks in 2D. The rhythm game and new power-ups look fine, but Super Inhale...
@grimbldoo: Your soup metaphor is flawed. Sakurai and his team can't sit back and let the game make itself. Man hours are the only thing that bring this game closer to being complete. Assembly lines are a faster method than a single person making a whole product, this isn't any different in prospect.
@DarkwingLz: More than aware. I was literally trying to figure out how you would prevent the unwavering fanboys and casual market from buying anything, besides actually growing the thing.
I have to agree with this guy. Smartglass is far too cumbersome to be used or practical gaming, but the Wii U hasn't really justified the existence of the Gamepad yet either. I definitely think the Gampad is one of the smarter approaches to second screen gaming, but so far, not game has made the second screen and integral part of the gameplay. If anything the Gamepad has only been treated as a single, more flexible screen.
There would be advantages to Nintendo publishing on other consoles, but there would also be problems resulting from it. The one flaw with all of this is the assumption that Nintendo will, from this point onward, make weaker systems. We'll have to see how the Wii U follows course, and if it doesn't cut it, Nintendo will need to reexamine their strategy.
@everyone: This guy became president when THQ was already sinking, he did a good job of laying them to rest, not killing them.
This game looks to be incredible, unfortunately I don't see it becoming much of a success in today's market. It's nice to see a big developer take some risks though.
Wow, this seems like a smart move. If Nintendo gets enough Wii U's into peoples houses, they can start pining for the "Wii Effect", as in people actually playing the console, and making them go out to buy one.
@unrandomsam : Smartglass is an optional function, one that will likely be ignored for the most part. The Wii U essentially forces the developer to try and use it in some way. Also, there is a distinct lack of physical buttons on tablets and phones. You think setting up a Surface as a second screen and using an Xbox controller would work? That is far too ridiculous of a set up to be practical. Would it work for off-screen play, sure, but as a dedicated dual screened game... ugh, I don't want to imagine that. Key Point: Smartglass is optional, not everyone has a Windows 8/RT/Phone/Device. The Gamepad is consistent between Wii U's and directly integrated into the console.
@Mahe : What are you, a broken record?
"Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad. Nintendo needs to get rid of the Gamepad. Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad. Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad."
We get it, you don't like the Gamepad, but getting rid of it would be suicide. What would be the selling point? Sub-par specs? Not as pretty HD? Motion controls that require a remote instead of the Kinect? I don't love the Gamepad, but with enough effort, it could be used to provide an experience that can't be offered with raw technical power. What you're asking Nintendo to do is make a console with a small library to compete with the massive library and lower prices of the PS360. That would effectively murder the Wii U.
@Kodeen: Thank you for attempting to help me, but I was making a reference to the ludicrous number of emails Nintendo Life gets regarding the release of Ashes Cricket in the Americas.
The Wii U is a perfect example of a good idea with flawed execution. When the rumors about Project Cafe were flying around the internet, I couldn't wait for it to be revealed. Everyone agreed that there would be a touchscreen, and I practically dreamed of everything Nintendo could have done with it. Instead, the Gamepad has simply become an extra TV. I bought a HDTV for my Wii U! If I don't want to play games on a TV, I use a handheld, it's as simple as that. If Nintendo wants to justify the existence of the Gamepad, they need to make a game that would be impossible to play without it.
@Emblem: I never state that Nintendo needs to make a high-budget commercial and show it in movie theaters. Nintendo needs to advertise their console in other places than Wikias and these commercials. They've been handling 3D World well, but if they want to get the general "Wii Effect" to occur, they need to put far more Wii U's in people's houses, not to mention a true casual "killer app".
It's always nice to hear there is good in the world. Even though I haven't played Earthbound, I have a deep respect for Itoi just because of how much passion he puts into his work. Hopefully his signature should be enough to make that cartridge's price skyrocket. Hopefully, James Hensiek will recover, and not be in any significant debt.
Well, if there were actually bombs planted, I'm glad they caught this guy. It's sad when people have such a problem with something, or want attention so badly, that they're willing to murder people.
