Re: Rumour: Smash Bros. Heading for a Spring 2014 Release

@grimbldoo: Your soup metaphor is flawed. Sakurai and his team can't sit back and let the game make itself. Man hours are the only thing that bring this game closer to being complete. Assembly lines are a faster method than a single person making a whole product, this isn't any different in prospect.

Re: Epic Vice President Mark Rein Remains Unconvinced By Second Screen Gaming

SomeBitTripFan

I have to agree with this guy. Smartglass is far too cumbersome to be used or practical gaming, but the Wii U hasn't really justified the existence of the Gamepad yet either. I definitely think the Gampad is one of the smarter approaches to second screen gaming, but so far, not game has made the second screen and integral part of the gameplay. If anything the Gamepad has only been treated as a single, more flexible screen.

Re: Former Naughty Dog And THQ Head Jason Rubin Says Nintendo Is "Irrelevant" In The Hardware Arena

There would be advantages to Nintendo publishing on other consoles, but there would also be problems resulting from it. The one flaw with all of this is the assumption that Nintendo will, from this point onward, make weaker systems. We'll have to see how the Wii U follows course, and if it doesn't cut it, Nintendo will need to reexamine their strategy.

@everyone: This guy became president when THQ was already sinking, he did a good job of laying them to rest, not killing them.

Re: Xbox One UK Sales Set to Pass Wii U's Lifetime to Date Figures

@unrandomsam : Smartglass is an optional function, one that will likely be ignored for the most part. The Wii U essentially forces the developer to try and use it in some way. Also, there is a distinct lack of physical buttons on tablets and phones. You think setting up a Surface as a second screen and using an Xbox controller would work? That is far too ridiculous of a set up to be practical. Would it work for off-screen play, sure, but as a dedicated dual screened game... ugh, I don't want to imagine that. Key Point: Smartglass is optional, not everyone has a Windows 8/RT/Phone/Device. The Gamepad is consistent between Wii U's and directly integrated into the console.

@Mahe : What are you, a broken record?
"Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad. Nintendo needs to get rid of the Gamepad. Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad. The Gamepad is the only reason people don't buy a Wii U. Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad.Gamepad is bad."

We get it, you don't like the Gamepad, but getting rid of it would be suicide. What would be the selling point? Sub-par specs? Not as pretty HD? Motion controls that require a remote instead of the Kinect? I don't love the Gamepad, but with enough effort, it could be used to provide an experience that can't be offered with raw technical power. What you're asking Nintendo to do is make a console with a small library to compete with the massive library and lower prices of the PS360. That would effectively murder the Wii U.

Re: Talking Point: The GamePad and its Role Defining the Wii U

SomeBitTripFan

The Wii U is a perfect example of a good idea with flawed execution. When the rumors about Project Cafe were flying around the internet, I couldn't wait for it to be revealed. Everyone agreed that there would be a touchscreen, and I practically dreamed of everything Nintendo could have done with it. Instead, the Gamepad has simply become an extra TV. I bought a HDTV for my Wii U! If I don't want to play games on a TV, I use a handheld, it's as simple as that. If Nintendo wants to justify the existence of the Gamepad, they need to make a game that would be impossible to play without it.

Re: Video: Let's Round Up The Latest Celeb and "Pitch" Nintendo Commercials

SomeBitTripFan

@Emblem: I never state that Nintendo needs to make a high-budget commercial and show it in movie theaters. Nintendo needs to advertise their console in other places than Wikias and these commercials. They've been handling 3D World well, but if they want to get the general "Wii Effect" to occur, they need to put far more Wii U's in people's houses, not to mention a true casual "killer app".

Re: Signed EarthBound Cartridge to Be Auctioned Off for Cancer Patient

It's always nice to hear there is good in the world. Even though I haven't played Earthbound, I have a deep respect for Itoi just because of how much passion he puts into his work. Hopefully his signature should be enough to make that cartridge's price skyrocket. Hopefully, James Hensiek will recover, and not be in any significant debt.
