Re: Game Designers Reveal How Super Mario Bros. 3 Would Work As A Free-To-Play Mobile Title

SomeBitTripFan

@Archgamer :
I was talking about Fire Emblem: Awakening. I know my opinion will likely be beaten into the ground by someone too blind in their love for a company than to actually see that Nintendo has already shifted in the direction of Free-To-Play style games, just without the limitless potential for stealing money from people, but charging for them at the price of a regular games and being under an obscuring veil hiding that the games at their core are designed to make you buy the DLC, whether by taking advantage of the compulsive need for things to be complete or by locking the best content or content that makes the game more enjoyable behind a paywall. Think about FE:A. The maps are designed so that grinding takes precedence over strategy. "To save time why not buy the DLC that nets you more experience so you can grind faster? But, if you can get that DLC bundled with other DLC for cheaper, so buy the bundle." The game pretty much forces you to buy all the DLC, which ends up costing $50.50, more than the entire game, at least. And yet Nintendo fans love the game and bash all other games because the DLC should have been, "included in the original game". If people care about Nintendo, they should be telling them to not do this, as it will hurt customer loyalty, but for some reason, when Nintendo does something, they are always right. If Nintendo announced a Free-To-Play Super Mario Bros. 3 just like the description in this article, they would be lavished with praise for making a game available to a new generation.

Re: Soapbox: 'Vintage' Used Game Prices Do Nothing to Encourage Customer Loyalty

SomeBitTripFan

I have to agree, I don't like what how much Gamestop has inflated the price, nor do I like that they withheld copies from the market, the problem is they are charging less than most every other retailer I've seen sells it. I don't understand why this has become such a big deal. From my understanding Gamestops has been doing this for years, just without the price hike.

Re: Review: Galaga (Wii U eShop / NES)

SomeBitTripFan

I wish they would put Gaplus on there instead. It was so much better than Galaga and I have to agree with @rjejr Gyruss would be a welcome addition. There are only two machines that play it where I live and I hold the high score on both.

Re: Call of Duty: Ghosts Multiplayer Outlined in Lavish Presentation

SomeBitTripFan

@mariobro4: Yeah, true. I'm forgetting what consoles this is coming out on. The game does sound relatively fun, but once they have announced the new game next year, unless they're making some major changes, I'll be right back to thinking that. Imagine if Activision spent three years making a CoD game that evolved the franchise instead of milking it into stagnation. Or if they just kept expanding Ghosts and added campaigns as DLC. Even if the stories weren't connected, that would likely be a great game. I doubt it will happen, but sometimes it's good to try and be a little bit optimistic.

Re: Shigesato Itoi Elegantly Explains What EarthBound Means to Him

SomeBitTripFan

That was absolutely incredible writing. I already want to get Earthbound, (unfortunately I don't have the time to play it now) but reading such passionate, deep, and simply beautiful writing as such displays just how much was put into that game. It is when I see how much something means to someone, as Earthbound does to Itoi, that I want to experience his work and delve into the world of his mind. I hope to play Earthbound soon.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Shaping Up To Acquire Troubled Atlus

SomeBitTripFan

I think it would be a great move for Nintendo. With Atlus, they would cement their future handhelds as successful in the Japanese market on top of luring some Sony fans to the Wii U, as they clearly love Atlus. To any skeptics, who ever expected Nintendo to buy Monolith Soft? They put out Xenogears, which is known for being fairly controversial. I think Nintendo will do it.

@citizenerased :

I edited it for you. When I'm up late and angry, paragraphs are the last thing on my mind.

@Geonjaha :

“I don’t think Nintendo fans are so stupid they would buy a piece of cardboard. A box on the other hand, that says Nintendo on it, they probably would. Remember when you were a kid and you get gifts, and when you’re really little you like the box better than the gift? That’s how I think of Nintendo fanboys.”

-Michael Patcher

I can't help but agree with you. How is this just his job? He must have some personal bias against Nintendo fans, otherwise he wouldn't have made the above quote.

@kotetamer :

That's part of his bias. He's using only the information he wants, as any biased anyone would.

Also, in defence of my above post.

When replying to a topic, don't; unless you have something meaningful to say or something that will contribute to the discussion. Posts such as "Yes" or "I agree" or "LOL" are useless and are wasteful on the servers.

I have replyed constructively to this topic bringing in my opinion, with evidence.

I have not harassed any users, and once again, I have contributed constructively to this topic.

Do not "flame" others. Blatantly offensive posts directed at others will not be tolerated. While we do allow members to debate and voice their own opinions, there will be a limit to how far a heated debate can go before it is closed by staff.

I have voiced my opinion through fact. While I have made some strong jabs at Patcher in my above comment, has he not taken jabs at me as a Nintendo fan?

Thank you for you understanding. (Know that I am not saying this mockingly. I sincerely hope you will understand my view on this subject.)

Re: Pachter Predicts Wii U Price Cut, Feels Nintendo Is Losing "Non-Traditional" Players To Social And Mobile

SomeBitTripFan

Honestly, whatever "logic" Patcher has, I cannot see it. From my understanding, the Wii U has been sold at a loss. While cutting the cost would boost sales, Nintendo would lose money. And while the number of consumers would be greater and profits made from software grander, it could still be a risky move that could overall still harm Nintendo. If I had the numbers, I could determine the risk.
Continuing, I don't see how he can predict such high sales for the Xbox One and PS4. On average, a household owns one MS or Sony console and one Nintendo console. The Wii had a giant combination of factors that allowed it to sell as well as it did; It was cheap, it offered something completely different from the competition, and featured powerful exclusives. I don't see anything about the PS4 or Xbox One that makes me want to buy either. Is it possible that I'll get a PS4, possibly; An Xbox One, not at all. And it seems I'm not the only one with this opinion. Since the reveal of the Xbox One, on Amazon UK the Wii U's sales spiked by 875%. As of right now, I cannot imagine the Xbox One possibly selling more units than the 360, based off of the consumer responce to the One. I'm in no way saying the One will fail, but I certainly don't see it selling 100 million units.
As for the handheld market, while I admit smartphone and tablet games may harm the handheld industry, they will not cripple the market, simply because what the two offer are so very different. I myself would argue smartphone and tablet "gaming" might help the handheld market by causing general consumers to become interested in gaming and yearn for deeper, more complex games not present on such platforms. Handhelds offer much more complex, deeper games: RPG's, Ridgid Action Games, various Action/Adventure games, or platformers. These kinds of games, for the most part require, quick, precise, and physical control schemes. Being able to control something without looking at your hands is a necessity to many genres of games. Some simple games can feel comfortable to play, but others are an absolute mess. Such technical problems could be solved, but still the target audience of handhelds versus tablets or smartphones is still drastically different.
Tablets and smartphones are designed for nothing in particular other than the consumption of media, which consists of a large and various scope. Handhelds are designed to play games. So logically, the target audience of tablets or smartphones is the general consumer, while the target of handhelds are people who want to play games. To prove this point look at the game Gunman Clive on Android and iOS platforms. Upon being ported to the 3DS download platform, known as the eShop, it was able to outsell the total number of sales on both Android and iOS combined, despite the large number of high quality games competing with it on the eShop. Handheld gaming is in no way on the decline.
So to conclude this essay-of-a-comment, I would like to advise Patcher to not express his biased opinion, but do research, which doesn't include reading the Gamespot and IGN forums.

Re: Poll: Do You Follow and Watch Rival Console Reveals?

SomeBitTripFan

I might watch it, not that I ever plan on getting Nextbox/Durango/720/Infinity. XBOX has no variety and few exclusives that interest me. I'd just use a PC before getting one. I'm watching to see what it will be like and what Nintendo will be up against. I'm considering a PS4 for its exclusives.

Re: FIFA 14 is Skipping Wii U Because of "Disappointing" FIFA 13 Sales

SomeBitTripFan

I don't really care about EA or FIFA or sports games in general, though this will definitely hurt the Wii U. The one thing that could easily save the Wii U from this is if SEGA brought back SEGA Sports and made it exclusive to Wii U, not that it would ever happen. The Wii U is really looking like the Dreamcast right now. At least Nintendo isn't in the same condition as SEGA around that time.

Re: Check Out This Comparison Between The New 3DS Zelda And Link To The Past

SomeBitTripFan

This being my favorite game from my childhood, I'm pretty excited. Hopefully the world isn't completely "copy-paste". I don't care for the art style at all. A 16-bit look in 3d would be far more nostalgic I think.

@Five-SeveN: I don't think you really want that. Besides it already came out.

I get what you really mean, but a sequel wouldn't exactly be possible becouse of Samus'... obsession. Ba-BOOM!

Re: Tales Producer Says The Series Could Eventually Make It To Wii U

SomeBitTripFan

Honestly, I fear they won't do anything for the Wii U. I'm hopeful, but Namco gives PS way too much love. It seems every Tales game gets ported eventually to PS2/PS3/PSP/Vita. Hopefully we will see a mothership title make it onto Wii U, not an escort title like Dawn of the New World. That game was broken, the best part of the game was the skits (generally the things everyone skips over).
Maybe SSB4 will make Namco some money and they'll start supporting the Wii U. We can at least hope.

Re: Tales Producer Has No Immediate Plans To Bring The Series To Wii U

SomeBitTripFan

I hope the Wii U gets a Tales game. I've played more Tales of the Abyss on PS2 alone than anything on Wii U combined. Port Tales of Xillia to Wii U and I'll be happy (as long as it isn't ported poorly). They should be able to port it well (not like the 3DS port of Tales of the Abyss which was very give-and-take, not to mention the typos) like how their PS ports of Tales of Symphonia and Vesperia add plenty of content.

Re: Square Enix Teases New Projects on Anniversary Website

SomeBitTripFan

Ten years ago, two titans in the video game industry combined to create... a bigger but not better titan. Being bigger, its ears were too far from the mouths of those who kept it alive, and its rear could drop much more crap faster. When it tried to do something big it was horrible (and had the number XIII upon it). The small things it did were incredible, and there was one big thing it was doing that had potential. However it hadn't come to be. The titan tried to do what his two halves used to, but as one body, its capabilities were in truth limited. It still had a chance though. It would need to act differently as it couldn't be two and use its strengths to return to its glory as two. It would be a hard journey, but one still feasible. Best of luck Square-Enix.
