@Panopticon Trust me, that’s an empty promise on their part. If they’d really intended to be a “spoiler-free” zone, they wouldn’t have even posted about the starter leaks in the first place. Alas, they opted to get as many clicks as possible from the rabid fans eager to have more information prior to game launch
@UmbreonsPapa Right? By posting the pictures of the leaked starter evolutions, NL has already broken their assurance to the readers to be “spoiler-free” unless they opt to remove the article (and we know they won’t because that got them a crap ton of clicks)
I get the upset for the sellers but it’s also funny any would claim Amazon is selling them for a higher price. A lot of sellers on Amazon are notorious for insane markups
If Europe has an extra surplus of steelbooks, they may very well give some at the Nintendo Store launch in NY. They did the same with the Europe exclusive pokeball game cart cases for X and Y
@Heavyarms55 Yeah, broken street dates feel like the only way anyone will get early info. The owner of that link/site is one of the biggest console hackers in the gaming community and he put this info up with an update tonight to reaffirm that it couldn’t be done after giving it a try
@Heavyarms55 Lol. I’m going to be in that line from 6am to midnight, so I’m going to need a distraction. And I remember for the X and Y launch, people were in line with physical copies of the games hours before midnight because a local shop a few blocks away had started selling ahead of time. If we don’t have leaks before then, I can only hope I don’t have people craning over my shoulder or asking me about the starters. Might play strictly in Japanese for that very reason
@StarViruZ Not possible given the three stages of encryption on preloads to prevent access. They’re missing the access title key one gets when you purchase digital titles on the day of release and require an internet check to tell the system it’s time to unlock the game on release. And the preload has segments of missing data as well until that key gives permission to access, putting the last bits of info in place. We’re more likely to get leaks from physical copies shipped too early from overzealous retailers. And strange... I saw Shield present when I downloaded just a little bit ago
Downloading under my Japanese account as we speak. I’ll be going to the Nintendo Store for the midnight launch but perhaps I’ll be able to play the Japanese version while in line since Japan will be 14 hours ahead (Daylight Savings Time starts this weekend)
@Heavyarms55 Same. I’m looking forward to launch. My husband offered to keep the kids while I spend the weekend in NY. Going to attend the launch and play all weekend while staffing a booth at the anime convention up there
I really miss the animated title openings/screens. I still remember Ruby and Sapphire and the joy that gave my heart as a kid. Really wish they’d do that again.
@klingki It’s slowly but surely coming down. Last week I saw it for near $450 and now it’s $389.99. I intend to get one or two (multiple switches) by the time Pokemon comes out (or buy the second one around the holidays)
Yep! Grey Lite, Case, Hori clear protector and screen protector en route from Amazon to my job as we speak. I’m still debating if I’ll transfer from my launch day model or just make a second account to use as a primary for the Lite. I also will be getting the Sword and Shield Lite in November
But didn’t Level-5 put the original Yokai Watch on smartphones in Japan? And back during its development phase, its original trailer and gameplay was shown running on a Ps3 before it was repurposed to the 3DS exclusively. So, by that logic, it long since lost that exclusivity.
@Erufuda Am I supposed to be bothered? I have four children that act far more mature than the poster I replied to. It’s not that I care about the complaints, per se, but the fools walking around (like the poster) saying people shouldn’t be buying these games and essentially attacking those of us excited to play them. They’re games, not life or death. It is seriously not a hill worth dying on just because a developer chooses to go a different direction after all these years.
Get stuffed and get lost. Nobody but you and the other man-children whining about the dex and graphics and animations cares. Many of you are getting bent out of shape over a VIDEO GAME still marketed primarily at children like it’s life or death. Game Freak did not lie. None of your youtube people have the games on hand to hack and break down anything. Side by side? Video editing is a thing... If you believe random youtubers, you are what counts as these sheeple you are ready to call others out to be.
@Yorumi Ok, absolutely fair. And I’m by no means saying they’re perfect and without some degree of criticisms and whatnot. We know they could, or rather should, be doing a little better as a developer and pushing themselves to offer a great experience. But on the other hand, I do still see the love and effort that has been put in and I’m willing to accept what changes have been made if the overall experience appears worth some degree of sacrifices. So far, I’m pretty happy with what has been shown. And I still give them the benefit of the soubt that this is their first major going on the Switch. X and Y weren’t the best when they did the first 3DS games but they brought new things to the table for the series. I’m sure with proper feedback and critiques (not just ramblings, threats and harassment from the more angry fanboys), that perhaps they’ll grow and utilize the system better down the line. I just wish people would step back and look at the games as a whole and not focus on smaller parts of it before even really having reviews or giving it a try themselves (even if that means just borrowing a copy from someone or something if they don’t purchase it)
Well, my kids and I are beyond happy with what we’ve seen so far and nothing in the recent footage looked anything like a 3DS game at all, so... We all have our stances and I’m happy to continue having Pokemon in my household for my kids and myself to enjoy. Games evolve, things get taken away or re-added, new features given a chance. I have a full living dex that I’ve been maintaining since childhood but don’t really care that they opted to stop having all creatures in the game. It’s beyond unreasonable in my honest opinion as the count keeps going up.
It is totally worth it. We made Poffins, pokeblocks and i believe we did the smoothies or whatever in soul silver/heart gold for the pokethelon. Cooking and interactions are not new but being further touched upon as the series progresses.
Just like with the recent Fire Emblem, it’s nice to have a break from just battling and playing the story. Some fluff is good for games and doesn’t necessarily detract from the overall experience.
And given the circulating leaks have been spot on so far, then we’re looking at at least 700 pokemon in the game. That is a very substantial amount to have as far as I’m concerned.
@Brianst0rm Uh, that’s a goddamned lie. Was just at the world championship last weekend and there were a lot of kids. AND all four of my children and all of their friends are Pokemon crazy. Don’t spew utter bs just because you want to be a salty fanboy that’s not getting his way...
Pokemon (both) Fire Emblem Astral Chain Kill la Kill Link’s Awakening Dragon Quest XI S Rune Factory 4 Special Ni no Kuni Omega Labyrinth Any otome games
I still have yet to make a decision as to which house I’ll choose. Given I’ll be female Byleth, I’m torn between Blue Lions and Golden Deer. But I do also admire Edelgard as well in Black Eagles.... Ah well, sounds like I’ll be making multiple play-throughs on this title....
I’d say my only disappointment is that after Awakening and Fates there’s no customization to the player character this time around. Still gonna play it, but I feel if we’re supposed to feel like the avatar is us for the sake of emersion in the game, customization should be included.
I’m eagerly anticipating this! Two weeks to go and happy I got special editions from the US, Europe and Japan for my gaming collection. Will also be getting Kill la Kill and Rune Factory 4 Special that day as well
This is going to be like the 3DS for me all over again as I will purchase the differing variants and themed models for my gaming collection. I’ll get a black regular lite, the Pokemon lite and whatever themed version comes to the regular switch for Pokemon
@Taarna @RiasGremory Oh, yes, some people are mind-boggling when it comes to games like this and being so judgmental. I remember someone here had the audacity years ago to say I had to be a horribly unfit mother because I had been excited for one of the 3DS Senran Kagura games and I was ready to knock teeth... Mind you, this was a game that I was purchasing for myself to play outside the presence of my children.
Edit: nevermind, just saw only certain pokemon gigamax. But I’m still loving the concept either way. Would have been nicer if it could happen with all pokkemon. Would take away some of the National Dex sting
Bea and Allister have my heart! Loving the gigamaxing as it’s essentially giant mega-evolution pokemon for ALL the pokemon. Kinda puts into some perspective why all the pokemon aren’t included now. I mean, we still don’t know the grand total of the Galar dex, but if each and every pokemon has an alternate form for Gigamaxing, then that’s a bit of work put in on top of general Dynamaxing.
Also loving that Bea and Allister are version exclusive gym leaders kinda like from Black and White. Only difference was it was the same gym type but different leaders
I’ve been playing my import of the game since release and it effectively tackles a lot of the criticisms many players had regarding combat from the 3DS titles (i had loved that combat even though it was a nightmare for an unprotected touchscreen). I can say the changes to combat, updated graphics and engaging story and smorgasbord of side quests were made for the better and easily takes place as my favorite of all four main games. My kids are all having a ball with it, too, and were thrilled to hear it’ll be released here as well. Just wish we had even a vague timeframe and confirmation on if we’d get Shadowside (movie and/or anime) and Forever Friends so that anyone who purchases the new game would have proper back story on the newer characters since the game spans four different worlds
YW4 has been great since importing it last week. My kids and I are enjoying it immensely and it’s still littered with that remarkable Level-5 charm as the first 3 (7) titles were. The battle system is so much better compared to the first, a boon for any of the naysayers of the 3DS titles whom griped about the mechanics. News is that Level-5 will be hosting a panel at Anime Expo next month, so here’s hoping we get localization news
@ShadJV: Well, at the end of the day everyone does have their right to their feelings. I just hope that in time some of the ones spewing the hottest fire will at least wait to hear out any and all pertinent information before wanting to but GF to the ground... Like I said, I get it... GF is not a perfect company and they still have a ways to catch up to the modern standards of game development. I mean, just look at the newest Yo-kai Watch on Switch (which I’m playing at this very moment). It looks gorgeous and has so much going for it that GF should be taking notes on graphics and gameplay-wise. And I’ve held these sentiments since the very first YW game as Level 5 has taken great care to put detail and effort into their titles. But I still will love and play both
@MrBlacky: Meh shrugs Let the chips fall where they may.... At the end of the day, my entire household will be playing Pokemon at launch (while mom has a full weekend away from the kids and attends the inevitable launch party at Nintendo NYC)
@MrBlacky It’s odd and yet one of the reasons I think so many are blowing the Pokedex issue out of the water. We don’t know how many pokemon are in the games (Masuda himself said the Pokedex for the region would not be an easy feat to fill) and what pokemon are in and what are out. I have a full living dex and have transferred from game to game but I’m not going to let what I consider somewhat trivial in the grand scheme of it all stop me from playing the upcoming games. My kids didn’t even give a crap when I told them they might not be able to have all their favorites in the next games. They just shrugged and said they cared about the new pokemon and region and new features more than anything else. I mean, I get the upset to some degree, but it’s totally not the end all be all...
I suppose my kids and I are just excited and going to go all in with open minds. And of course as a gaming enthusiast, I will keep tabs on any and all information that comes out for the games. We don’t know everything these games will entail and we’re less than five months away from release. There’s still much to learn before everyone truly raises their pitchforks
Yo-kai Watch 4 please! I’ve got it preloaded onto my Switch for this week and copies coming in for myself and each of the kids. Will happily double dip for an English version. Also hope to hear more about Snack World at long last
So here’s hoping Rune Factory 4 news/release info is mentioned in the direct since Japan gets it next month. I’d say though that leaves news on 5 until later in the year or at the new year’s first direct... Anywho, I want RF4, more Pokémon info, Oninaki, maybe ports of the Bravely series or a new entry for Switch, Yo-kai Watch 4 localization news and perhaps a new Zelda title (not just Link’s Awakening) and Animal Crossing of course
So happy to see the Wild Area with Pokémon in the overworld. And I liked the hints in the trailer showing different ways to get them which included whistling to draw attention to a Stufful in the grass, shaking a tree for berries (I imagine an agitated Pokemon will lunge out at you), seeing a more up-close animation for fishing, traditional random encounters....
And omg, bikes are back! Thank the gods! Both land and water, so I can’t wait

As I mentioned above, impossible to datamine from a preload. Several renowned hackers have already established this: https://pastebin.com/c9LikXQj

And omg, bikes are back! Thank the gods! Both land and water, so I can’t wait
