Already pre-ordered my Manaka set from Play Asia! As a girl, I find the LovePlus series endearing and it's a good tool for showing how to properly treat women. There is nothing sexual or maturely themed in the games at all. I import them for 1. Collectibility and 2. use as a practice aide for studying Japanese since I take lessons (have an entire bookshelf's worth of imports for ds, 3ds, vita and ps3).
Oh, and those saying the dating sims are responsible for the declining birthrate need to do their research. Japan is restricitive to women that want progressive careers (once married, women are more often than not kept at the same position at their job. Once pregnant, they are pretty much expected to leave the workplace and become typical housewives) and both genders are finding it bothersome to have relationships at all outside of casual flings. This is just one of the multitude of reasons for the declining birthrate. Otakus are not the sole reason this is happening.
I know what you mean. I was considering doing the same myself, but since I have already paid it off at the Gamestop I work at, I just decided to keep my reserve in place (also beats getting up in the early morning on Friday to be at a Walmart to purchase the bundle since I'm sure there will be scalpers at the ready to buy as much stock as possible). At least my boss told me I can come in at the midnight launch for the xbox 1 tonight and pick up my Zelda stuff (bundle, physical game and the collector's edition guide) since it is technically the release date come midnight. And, being an employee, i get a discount on the physical copy of the game.
The wait for next week is killing me! Reserved both a physical copy of the game and the 3DS XL bundle (will be selling the download code to a friend for $25 so he's getting a major steal)
@Benjamin i never said we couldn't be upset. Hell, I used Swapnote to keep in touch with my penpals in Japan. But those that are stating keeping children safe is a worthless endeavor clearly do not want to acknowledge there is a problem that needs to be addressed. Our FCs are tied to the system, not an actual account, making it harder to actually discern the users and ban them outright.
Let me ask you something: Do kids always listen to their parents? Answer: No. You can teach a child valuable lessons for life to ensure their safety but it is ultimately up to said child if they absorb said lesson and do so. As the saying goes: You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.
And seriously, most kids/teens today are so much more tech savvy than their parents, it's not even funny. I admit, when kids get a new piece of tech for their entertainment, the parents should take it upon themselves to know what that tech can do and what risks are present. By that logic, parents shouldn't allow their kids and teens to have cell phones or tablets as the temptation for misuse is always there, no matter how much a parent tries to teach their kid to do the right thing and be responsible. However, a lot of adults see Nintendo products as for kids (even though we know they're used by all ages) and so either don't think of a danger being present or don't honestly know. They might not know of the parental controls at all.
Point is, many of us are not happy about the Swapnote situation, however those of us with clearer heads and not just outright rage are doing our best to look at both sides of the story and all angles of the problem that caused this. It is easy to say one should've done this or that to prevent the stuff that happened. But in truth, nothing is as simple as black and white.
I know, right? People are acting like Nintendo is intentionally slapping them in the face because of the idiots that abused the service. If I were in charge of any company that had a service being abused in such a manner, I'd do the same thing too. Is the action about saving face, yes. But it's also about safety of children. And all the people saying the parents should be monitoring their kids... Let's get real. Kids today are far more techno savvy than their parents (unless the parents are young enough themselves to have grown with today's technology) and many parents actually do not know of some of the safety features in place to keep their kids safe from online predators (or to keep them out of horrendous mischief in general). A lot of parents buy their kids some of this tech without knowing what it's really capable of doing ("Oh, this is the new game system you've been asking about? sure, we'll get it so you can keep yourself entertained with innocent fun."). There is blame to be had all around in the case of the misuse of Swapnote. For kids and their parents, it could be A) the child bypasses the security or doesn't tell their parents about said feature so they have free reign, B) Parents can be naive/uncaring about what their kids do online until the s*** hits the fan when they come across (accidentally or purposefully) what's been occuring. For the sick adults lurking online, they know better but don't care until they get caught. As far as I'm concerned, Nintendo did the right thing. They never said it was a permanent choice either, so people are getting their knickers in a twist over something trivial that is likely temporary until a solution is found. I am no hardcore Nintendo fangirl as I have some issues with the company's choices in the past year, but I will wholeheartedly not let pure emotion (read as Rage) cloud my understanding of the reasons behind this move with Swapnote.
I need this in the US! Nintendo, please don't make me dish out more funds to import this from GAME! My wallet can't handle anymore after pre-ordering the Zelda XL and physical game from Gamestop!!
It may be the minor's fault (and the inattentiveness of their parents) for intentionally sending such content.., However, the ADULT on the receiving end is just as guilty. And it's not always minors sending the stuff, I'm sure. Pedophiles do pose as younger people online to lure another into a false sense of security. The issues that happened to lead to Spotpass content of Swapnote being disabled is an entirely two-way street. You cannot blame one without the blaming the other. There could be kids sending stuff to kids, kids sending stuff to adults, adults sending stuff to kids and adults sending stuff to adults. There are so many potential factors of what may be going on with the abuse of Swapnote that Nintendo is likely playing it safe for the time being until a solution can be reached to prevent this crap. It is upsetting that I can no longer send fun messages to my penpals outside the US, but I'm understanding of the reasoning behind the move by the company.
I got to NY from DC at atound 1:30 pm on Friday the 11th. Met up with friends and we headed to the store, getting in line at roughly 1:45pm. They handed out wristbands for the event at 5 pm and my friends and I got the black ones which were slotted for 12:30 am purchase time and we were at least 200 feet from the start of the line. Now, when it was time for people to line up for purchase, it was a hectic mosh pit of people crowding near the doors of the store (which was worrying for me as I had to make sure I caught my 1:25am bus back to DC as no other bus left until 6:30 am). Despite the chaos of the crowd, my friends and I were in the store by 12:15 am and out by 12:50. Now... The line of people waiting to purchase the games after the event ended.... That was one long line stretching around the entire block and I have a feeling those people really had a multi-hours long wait (most looked like they had come from NYCC even though the Nintendo booth at the convention would be selling the games as well on the 12th).
I guess my point is that, yeah the line for the launch event was long, but it was possible to get there on Friday and get in to the event depending on when you arrived during the day. Though I do know there were instances of line-cutting where people were letting their friends who came late join them closer to the front of said line....
Be happy. I wish I still had school to occupy my time. It actually makes the day go faster when you're busy with something else while waiting for something highly anticipated
I was referring to "stereotypical" in reference to many people, when they think of darker-skinned people, think of brown eyes. I'm aware that genetics play a major part in determining a person's features. But, just as every lighter skinned human doesn't have blue eyes and blonde hair, not every darker skinned human has brown eyes and black/brown hair (as in my case since I have violet eyes and dark blonde hair). That was why I was happy to hear about contact lenses in the game.
For real?! Contacts?! Can you list some colors? I'm gonna play as the tan-skin female but I don't want the stereotypical brown eyes (I'm bi-racial and have tan skin but violet eyes)
Both pre-ordered with GameStop but gonna cancel since I've decided to attend the Nintendo World Store release event next Friday. So hyped! I'm gonna attend dressed as Serena
Picked my bundle up this morning as soon as Gamestop opened! Letting the gamepad charge up now before firing up the system later (which allows me to get a little cleaning and housework out the way so I can play uninterrupted once I start gaming)
Makes me wonder what that could mean for Ace Attorney Dual Destinies. Would be rather frustrating to find a couple months after release they would finally make a physical version after the majority of fans downloaded it....
I'd have preferred one legendary per console. The current design seems a little...cluttered...in my honest opinion. Had it been Yveltal on Red and Xerneas on Blue, then I'd be rushing to Gamestop right now. As it stands, I'll stick with my Pikachu XL and import the gold system from Japan (getting Japanese region copies as well so I can play my US copies in English and use the Japanese copies in Japanese for my language class)
B/W &B2/W2 were "DSi Enhanced" and the first region-locked games of the series, so it might have something to do with the games' coding... Of course I'm no expert
People complaining about the fact that Pokemon Bank will cost a fee... Do you seriously not realize that ongoing upkeep for services does cost money? They stated the service is supposed to be around for years and be useful even for future installments of the franchise games. So if it were free, chances are it might be lackluster and then people would gripe and groan if that was the case.... I doubt it would be an exorbitant fee as they know a lot of kids would need their parents' permission to use the service (unless you can use eShop cards to fund the fee). Also, the fee is annual, not per use. Quit crying until we get more solid details.
This! This is what I'm hoping for! A demo will reach the eager rabbid fans (speaking for myself) that don't have the chance to attend the expos or the tour coming up that have the demo available
Now that I think about it, it was pretty smart of GF/Nintendo to host the direct so early. They know people are back in school, so they're hoping to catch the kids, teens and college crowd while they're up and getting ready (or in the case of those in Japan, when the target audience has finished dinner and homework)
@TeiselBonne
Maybe that's why they said image subject to change? I don't condone the taking of someone's work but I suppose it was meant to be a simple placeholder until the official images are out, especially considering neither Yveltal nor Xerneas are pictured on the handhelds.
Yes! I shall be awake and ready at 7 am! Or I'll just never go to sleep during the night and sleep after the ND is over. Give us some good news! Announce a demo for the eShop! The wait is having me foam at the mouth (so far the only thing that will help alleviate my anxiety for X and Y will be my importing MH4 this month or, if it were to come out this month, playing Ace Attorney Dual Destinies)
Already put my deposit down at GameStop for my WindWaker bundle. So far, the only games that really catch my attention on the WiiU are Bayonetta 2 ans Smash Bros. but SM3DW might possibly sway me....
