@KevinLo9 @Brumblescope Trust me, Covenant 25 is insane compared to the lower difficulties.
Slowly yet surely I'm gradually trying to beat C25 (plus Last Divinity) with all the clan combinations (9/30 combinations down thus far) because I'm a masochist like that lol. I still love the game regardless though, 214+ hours in according to my 2021 'Year in Review' stats.
So my top 3 most-played games are roguelites (unsurprisingly): 1. Darkest Dungeon (381 hours, 'top active player') 2. Slay the Spire (264 hours) 3. Monster Train First Class (214 hours, 'top active player')
But seriously, what does 'top active player' mean?
Total hours for me this year is 1,361 (swap the middle numbers and you get my hours for last year, 1,631 lol).
Will do the Mario Party Superstars event in Tetris 99 in a bit, before going back to finish Inscryption (on Steam) today hopefully. Very mesmerizing card-battler that one, both with a great spooky ambience and cool soundtrack.
Afterwards, will continue playing Loop Hero (on Steam). Thought I may as well start it a couple days back when it released on Switch lol.
@Anti-Matter Insightful Treasures I believe they're called? (the one that levels yokai really quickly.) I remember by the time I reached the story's final boss, my team were already around 35ish levels above recommended level lol.
Been focusing a bit on Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ on Switch (doubt I'll be grabbing Repentance soon though), and recently started Darkest Dungeon and Inscryption on Steam (the former I've already invested 480+ hours on Switch).
"...a strange, mysterious, might-be-full-of-hints book has appeared somewhere in Prisoners' Quarters. However, its sayings look quite cryptic and incomprehensible..."
Just finished my Daily Run in Slay the Spire and will play more Tetris Effect in a bit (weekend Ritual/Full Moon starting shortly).
Only this morning did I look up a guide on how to perform the tricky T-Spin manoeuvre, will definitely need to start practicing on that sooner than later.
@Bobobiwan Previous themes can be purchased with 30 in-game tickets, if I'm not mistaken.
I too have been addicted to Tetris Effect lately; I'll still do this event though, before heading back for more weekend Ritual/Full Moon event in Effect.
Obtained the theme last night. Music used is Shrine Ruins, Magnamalo and Proof of a Hero respectively. I kinda hoped they used the Rampage theme (maybe for remaining 50 players?), but alas. Background looks cool though.
More Monster Train. Finally cleared Covenant 25 a couple days back, so am currently aiming to get C25 'Divine Victories' with all clan combinations. It's already tough going.
@BenAV I've made it to A19 thus far with Silent (other characters are at the A10 mark). A17 took me quite some time to beat, being the difficulty spike that it is.
Will be playing more Monster Train and Slime Rancher (maybe more Spiritfarer as well). Just cleared Covenant 14 in the former.
And yet, no love for Monster Train; such an addictive roguelike card-battler and an easy recommendation to Slay the Spire fans, or anyone that's least bit interested.
@KevinLo9 I'm definitely with you! I even recently changed my profile icon (which is currently the Queen's Impling from Monster Train) to show my appreciation for the game.
Easily one of the very best card battlers/roguelikes to date.
@NDragon1412 I second One Step from Eden. Fast gameplay and especially a great soundtrack to boot.
I enjoyed Ring of Pain also. A turn-based roguelike with an interesting concept (items/enemies are all arranged in a literal 'ring', so you'll need to strategize and move accordingly) though it doesn't have a lot of replayability. There's a demo if anyone's curious to try it.
Also, Slay the Spire. An absolute steal at that price and easily one of the very best indies/roguelikes out there.
Been hyped for this since its announcement 2 weeks back (given Slay the Spire's my favourite game on Switch). Played my first 2 runs last night; looks and plays great (no performance issues) thus far. Soundtrack's pretty good too.
@Spiders Given Monster Train's mechanic of boosting units/spells with modifiers as one sees fit, I wouldn't be surprised if I come across a broken run sooner than later. Slay the Spire on the other hand; the number of times I've had to face Time Eater with a shiv deck is unreal >.<
I'll hold off getting the Spelunkies for now, might wait for a sale. Monster Train's out next week (Slay the Spire-ish roguelite), so I'm hoping to get super invested into that.
I kinda doubt Silksong will be shown. If Hollow Knight was announced during a regular Direct (E3 2018, if I'm not mistaken), I bet Silksong will get the same treatment.
Hoping that Solar Ash will be announced. Set in the same world as Hyper Light Drifter, easily one of my favourite indies to date.
@Teksetter I absolutely love Darkest Dungeon. Played it for 450+ hours, having beat the game twice already. And agreed, narration (and art style) is fantastic, and touchscreen controls work great too.
@JasmineDragon Awesome that you've mentioned that quote, that's still currently my GameFAQs signature since last year.
Started playing Glyph yesterday, so will likely make more progress on that. (Even in the initial levels, grabbing those cosmetic avatars are no easy feat in the slightest!)
And will likely also play more of my roguelike chill known as Darkest Dungeon.
For a moment I was expecting to see a protagonist (or more) from Slay the Spire, but found Neow (below Tricky Towers) instead.
Also didn't expect to find Owl at all (from Ring of Pain), next to Castle Crashers. I thought Ring of Pain just wasn't that popular to be on there. Great roguelike though.
Edit: Or I could be looking at Chica (Five Nights at Freddy's) instead. I dunno, both look similar.
Guess for me it's either the Smash Bros (3DS/Wii U) soundtrack or those assorted colour Wiimote straps I used on my 3DS even. That and I still have my sheet of New Super Mario Bros. Wii stickers (still fully intact) framed on my bedroom wall.
I really wanted to grab that Golden Wii Wheel especially. But by the time I saved up enough stars, it was sold out indefinitely.
Also jumped back into Darkest Dungeon after a few months; currently on my 3rd run (Darkest, no DLC), and if I can beat that fairly quickly (in hopefully under 86 in-game weeks), I might start Stygian difficulty for the first time after that. Maybe.
I'll wait for a sale on this one then; currently playing Slay the Spire on touchscreen so to speak.
Also wasn't very impressed with the audio upon playing the demo. Battle music seems very non-existent, and there could've been a better choice for enemy voices than just high-pitched grunts.
A mix of The Longing, Into the Breach and Evergate this weekend (but mainly ItB, dang the 'one more try' on this roguelite is real).
And maybe either this weekend or the next, I ought to replay Hyper Light Drifter again (beat it 6 times last year, and easily one of my favourite indies ever).

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Ports Of 2021
Tetris Effect's soundtrack is quite the something else...
undeniably beautiful.
Re: Feature: 9 Switch Games Guaranteed To Get You On The Naughty List
@JasmineDragon Yeah, I can second Darkest Dungeon. Not sure about it being for 'all ages' though xD
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 18th)
More Loop Hero (maybe also Darkest Dungeon) on Steam, with some Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ and Monster Train on Switch on the side.

Re: Reminder: Unlock A Special Mario Party Superstars Theme In Tetris 99
@Clyde_Radcliffe The 'in danger' sound effect this theme used got annoying for me too quickly (more so than the generic equivalent).
Thankfully I've unlocked the theme last night, but my favourite will likely remain as the GBA Tetris one (aka the first Special theme).

A possible Slay the Spire reference?
Re: Loop Hero Finds Its Time With A Switch Release Date
From the PC gameplay I've seen, it looks (and sounds) utterly fantastic. It's definitely going on my wishlist.
Though given my current focus is buying Xmas pressies for family, I might not be grabbing it Day 1. Might get it come Xmas Day instead
Re: Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects - October 2021
Tetris Effect's soundtrack is simply incredible. Just saying.
Re: Feature: Spookiest Video Game Music - Halloween Playlist
What about Submerged Castle from Pikmin 2? One of the hardest dungeons in the game, in addition to the feeling that you're not alone...
Also, one of the Trial areas (forgot name) from Pokemon Sun/Moon is rather unsettling; listen with headphones and you'll know what I mean.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Roguelikes, Roguelites And Run-Based Games
The lack of Monster Train still makes me sad
Re: Nintendo Download: 21st October (Europe)
Will almost definitely be picking up Skul: The Hero Slayer next week. Easily one of the standout indies I saw from the April(?) Indie World showcase.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 16th)
Tetris Effect for more visual/audio goodness (man, it's so good!); will also do this weekend's Ritual whilst I'm at it.
And more Monster Train, gradually working on getting more Covenant 25 Divine Victories with all clan combinations (7 down, 23 to go).
Re: Reminder: Tetris 99 Is Hosting A Monster Hunter Rise Event This Weekend

Re: Review: Tetris Effect: Connected - Mizuguchi's Masterpiece Finds Its Ideal Platform
Great, now I might be tempted in getting this xD
I just finished the Monster Hunter Rise event via Tetris 99, so maybe a more relaxing Tetris like this one might be a welcome change of pace.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 2nd)
More Monster Train. Finally cleared Covenant 25 a couple days back, so am currently aiming to get C25 'Divine Victories' with all clan combinations. It's already tough going.
Re: Side-Scrolling Platformer Lumione Looks Like Underwater Ori
Looks good. As well as Ori, it also reminds me of Evergate, another tough yet beautiful and creative platformer.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 18th)
Monster Train, currently trying to beat Covenant 19.
Also obtained the Warioware: Get it Together! theme from Tetris 99 last night, and played a bit more Slime Rancher earlier today.
Re: Halloween's Coming Early With All This Festive Pokémon Merch
Aww, that Mimikyu sweater's already sold out?
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 11th)

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Week? (August 28th)
Monster Train, no doubt. A very easy recommendation to anyone with a slight interest in card battlers and/or roguelikes (and Slay the Spire fans).
Currently on Covenant 6; steadily climbing my way up.
Re: Review: Spelunky 2 - A Masterclass In Great Roguelite Game Design
As much as I do like roguelikes, I'll pass on this for now and wait for a sale. Monster Train (came out last week) has got me covered.
Re: Random: This Pusheen Skin For The Nintendo Switch Is So Sweet, You'll Get Cavities
My older sister saw this earlier and fell in love with it (the espresso one in particular). Sadly though, it doesn't ship to the UK.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 21st)
Focusing mainly on Monster Train (with a bit of World of Goo as well).
Re: Deck-Building Card Battler 'Monster Train First Class' Is Out Now On Switch

Re: Hades Is Getting Its Very Own Power-A Switch Controller

Re: Switch eShop Lists Spelunky 1 And 2 For Release At The End Of August
I'll hold off getting the Spelunkies for now, might wait for a sale. Monster Train's out next week (Slay the Spire-ish roguelite), so I'm hoping to get super invested into that.
Re: Switch eShop Lists Spelunky 1 And 2 For Release At The End Of August
@EarthboundBenjy I checked both listings earlier and yep, Spelunky 1 is rated 18 for 'simulated gambling'. The latter is rated for 'mild violence'.

Re: Talking Point: What's That One Switch Game You Can't Bring Yourself To Delete?
Slay the Spire. Just like the protagonists, my fate has already been sealed. No escape from the Spire, ever.
Re: WarioWare: Get It Together Brings Mini-Game Mayhem To Switch In September
@boxyguy Yeah, definitely agree with the new character control too. Might give this game a shot, seeing I haven't played WarioWare since DIY.
Re: Shin Megami Tensei V Is A Switch Exclusive Launching This November

Just Spiritfarer for me this weekend. Such a chill and delightful indie.
Re: Review: Rise of the Slime - Slay The Spire Lite, With Tiddly Text

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 15th)
Evergate, Into the Breach and The Longing. Also finishing Hyper Light Drifter (for the 7th time, it's that good).
