@Fizza In Yokai Watch Blasters (Red Cat/White Dog/Moon Rabbit), there does exist a boss variant of Jibanyan known as Red Paws (who resembles a lucky cat), so the tweet looks like it could be a befriendable version of that boss perhaps (considering the number of befriendable bosses from YKW2 and onwards have been steadily increasing).
More Hand of Fate 2 (Switch) and Against the Storm (Steam). The former I'm currently focusing on progressing companion questlines and doing more Endless mode. The latter I'm currently doing a run on Viceroy difficulty. Should I beat that, I can finally move onto the Prestige difficulties.
To answer Gavin's question, I've played Rain World both on Steam and Switch, but haven't gotten far in either. Love the wasteland-like atmosphere that is has, though expect to die a lot as the game's difficulty will get brutal. I'd say exploration is the key premise here. Don't try to rush and just soak (pun-intended?) in the atmosphere as you find food and head to the nearest shelter to avoid the inevitable rain. Also, slugcats. They're adorable.
Taking down the Northern Area's boss in Hyper Light Drifter (New Game+ difficulty). Said boss on Standard difficulty is annoying enough as is (in my opinion the hardest boss in the game), but on New Game+, where your protagonist has at most 2HP instead of 5HP? Ugh.
'Ascending' almost any specialization in Siralim Ultimate. Ascending requires that you beat all 30 gods when they are 15x your creatures' levels (Lv.1500 vs Lv.100). Granted with a well-planned team, most gods are actually not that hard to take down, until that is you're up against the goddess Muse. Abuses her minion army at your team like she's constantly laughing in your face.
Not sure if the update will fully convince me back into finishing this game though. Good game no doubt, except I felt it was overstaying its welcome a bit (especially given the grind required for the later legendary dungeons), so decided to play something else.
More Hand of Fate 2. Before playing (beginning of this month), I had a feeling this game would be rather special, and now it's already been surpassing my expectations despite I'm perhaps not halfway through the campaign yet.
Was defeated at a particularly fiendish level last night. But I am determined to see this game through to the very end. You have my word Dealer.
Might pop into Splatoon 3 for a few Big Run matches.
Otherwise, more Siralim Ultimate on Steam. Granted I also have the game on Switch now (since its release last week), but with the performance compared to Steam being night and day at the moment (with Switch version running much slower), I'll continue to play on said Steam for the time being.
Siralim Ultimate, without a doubt. Played 450+ hours on Steam version already and I can say with confidence that it's easily become one of the best RPGs I've played in a long time.
And yes, the amount of game content is legit massive.
More Siralim Ultimate on Steam (prior to the game's release on Switch in 6 days time, cross-save included meaning I'll be able to continue my Steam save instead of having to start over), and more Nobody Saves the World on Switch.
Main focus is on Siralim Ultimate (on Steam), perhaps now one of the best RPGs I've ever played. And now it's heading to Switch in under 2 weeks time, playing this on the go is a dream come true
Will endeavour to play more Nobody Saves the World as well, but with SU being as addictive as it is, I say to myself 'good luck with that', lol.
I definitely second the Submerged Castle. Music is sure unsettling at first, until the Water Wraith (which is completely invulnerable, at least until the final floor) falls in and the music turns almost Jaws-like in an instant.
Pikmin 3 has a similar vibe at the end as well, though not as anxiety-inducing as the former.
@KevinLo9 Haha, thanks. Such is why I love to welcome indies with open arms
Started said Letter Quest on Expert difficulty earlier. It sure already hits different (compared to Normal difficulty) from the get-go. Then again, Normal was a tad too easy for me, we'll see how this one goes.
More Splatoon 3 (mainly Salmon Run and possibly finishing Story Mode), and Slime-san.
And since it's October now, I might start up Letter Quest Remastered again today (seriously, great indie gem!) for a third playthrough, this time on Expert difficulty.
I'd add Slay the Spire to that list, considering it does have a sort of timeloop: Death means your character is once again resurrected by a giant whale, and it's back to climbing that Spire, again and again.
But of course, why is my profile icon still the Queen's Impling (from Monster Train) to this day? This game on Switch deserves way more respect than it's currently getting. Enough said.
@Daniel36 I'm already one of the backers for this game and whilst I don't know what Ultima 7 is, regardless I do love how the inventory system will play out here.
Based on the kickstarter page, when you approach a sack for instance, you'll actually 'look into' the sack and you'll be able to grab or move stuff around in said sack (i.e. to find hidden stuff like coins and keys), just like in real life. Additionally, you'll be able to move stuff straight from your inventory to someplace it can interact with (i.e. moving a piece of meat straight from inventory to a campfire will start cooking it).
@Slinkoy1 Yeah I'm not searching anything, but regardless, I'm getting video recommendations anyway for 'Salmon Run this' and 'Story Mode that'.
A few of them I spotted have black thumbnails with 'spoiler' written on it, and then I came across what looks like some kind of final boss right on the thumbnail...yeesh.
@Mrkittyhead Pretty sure Specter's Call is the European name for it, in a similar way that EU have Pandora's Box (another Professor Layton) whilst US call it Diabolical Box if I'm not mistaken?
Mainly focusing on Skyrim (on Switch) this weekend. My first playthrough, and so far it's going rather swimmingly as a firebolt-blasting high elf, no use of swords here (not for now anyway) lol. Only if I fancy, will I try and make more progress in Rain World. AI and environments are great no doubt, but the risk of getting eaten (and losing karma) almost every 20 seconds it seems lol, not so much.
Seriously though, whilst I really like its wasteland-looking environments and its inhabitants (with very realistic AI); as a vulnerable slugcat, you will most certainly die a lot, even on the easier Monk difficulty. And no, I haven't beaten the game yet.
Also, absolutely love Darkest Dungeon. Provided one is committed into learning all its mechanics and such; its lore, art style and of course the Ancestor (narrator) makes for one thrilling roguelike experience, hands down.
Played the Splatoon 3 demo for what seemed like 6 hours lol. My hands are a little cramped, but with the rank of Paper Ruler (yes I support Paper), I think I'll call it quits for this event now.
Will likely play more Skyrim later. Mainly focusing on adding more furnishings to my Lakeview Manor home and probably exploring more random caves as I see fit.
Jankiness aside, it looks promising. Maybe by next year, the animations and combat will feel a bit more polished (seeing this is just a reveal trailer).
But that said, I for one quite enjoyed my time with Gleamlight (a poorly-rated with a very similar aesthetic) due to its janky charm. Maybe I'm just weird like that.
Think I'll side with Paper for this fest, because whilst getting hit with a rock or getting a cut from using scissors is annoying, getting a slight and accidental cut from paper is one of the most frustrating experiences ever lol.
Whilst I don't think Metroid's my kind of franchise, the first game I played (a spin-off mind, and that's Metroid Blast from Nintendo Land) was surprisingly fun, and ended up obtaining all trophy achievements.
@Rykdrew I second Monster Train (if my profile pic wasn't enough, hehe). 350+ hours in thus far and still loving it; currently trying to clear all the Expert Challenges on C25.
Pikmin 3 Deluxe and Letter Quest Remastered on Switch.
The latter game I've already obtained all achievements on the Steam version (about 5 days back), so of course I decided to double-dip and play the Switch version too. A surprisingly delightful puzzler.
As for the former, last time I took down the boss of Tropical Wilds, so will venture into Twilight River next.
You mention that 'pre-ordering the game unlocks an exclusive skin', but I just checked the eShop and the game's still not yet listed under 'Coming Soon'?
@Daggot I know right? Truly, Dead Cells is a gift that keeps on giving.
And with that, I ought to double-dip this game on Steam in just a bit and jump right back in. Not for the reason that it's currently on sale, but out of pure respect for the devs.
> My favourite character is Silent. Kinda hard to tell why though, they're all good. > I'd say Watcher's a pretty advanced character to understand at first (i.e. knowing her 'Stances' well, and not accidentally throw yourself in an unwinnable situation due to not being able to exit Wrath stance in time), but after that her attacks can be pretty brutal and fun to utilise (looking at you, Tantrum). > My nemesis equals my hardest boss, and that's Time Eater. Every 12 cards played means he abruptly ends your turn and gains strength. Enough said. > Extra energy is great and all, but I think I prefer extra card draws that bit more. Probably explains why I especially like Silent, given her discard mechanics. > Biscuits? Were they custard creams or oreos by any chance? I like those.
About to start the current event in Tetris 99 in a bit, before coming back to my still addiction that is Siralim Ultimate on Steam.
Crafting a team that near-flawlessly wins battles before turn 1 (hence, 'Turn 0' or 'T0') is probably the most satisfying thing to witness in a monster-catching RPG
@Tingle_The_Great I second your comment, there are some enemies that will scale fairly quickly, so patience is not always key (or in the case of Act 1 Elite named Lagavulin, he will lower your character's strength/dexterity every few turns, so you cannot afford to stall the battle, just try to rush him down instead). And yes as others have mentioned, a small(er) deck is key! Strikes/Defends are no doubt any character's weakest cards in their deck, so the fewer of those cards you have (and replaced with better alternatives), the better.
I think this game is still on my Steam wishlist, but I'm just not sure on its artstyle (it took me long enough to start enjoying Binding of Isaac in spite of its gross appearance). Gameplay looks intriguing enough, so I might wait for a later discount.
Mainly just Siralim Ultimate on Steam. Beat the main story a couple days back, so am now getting started with what seems like a really long post-game (infinite, perhaps?)
Fingers crossed for a Switch port (with cross-save preferably) sometime in the near future
No love for Freakyforms it seems. Invested so many mindless hours creating some rather quirky 'formees', before having them wander about doing quests and pooping out gold as one would. Not sure if the original is digital-only, but its sequel Freakyforms Deluxe has a physical version.
Whilst I never invested much time into Colours 3D, my younger sister loved it greatly. I used to frequently check out its online gallery, and dang there were some really impressive artworks being featured on there.
@cyrus_zuo I second Streetpass Mansion. Also Streetpass Garden (unless I'm the only one who really liked it lol. Always felt satisfying to bloom those certain 'rare' plants in particular).
Finished Loop Hero on Steam yesterday. Pleasantly addictive gameplay, if you don't mind the slightly tedious grind needed to unlock all the buildings and menus within the campsite.
Hopefully looking to finish Loop Hero (on Steam) this weekend, whilst juggling between sessions of Slay the Spire, Monster Train and Binding of Isaac: Repentance (also on Steam) whenever I fancy.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 4th)
Hand of Fate 2 on Switch (about 4 or 5 levels to go now, maaaaaybe I might finish it this weekend, but we'll see).
Otherwise, more Against the Storm on Steam. The first citybuilder I've played, and what a surprisingly fun one at that.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 28th)
Drop down poll thingy isn't appearing for me :/
Anyways, focusing on Hand of Fate 2 and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX this weekend.
Might also play a demo or two on Steam as well.
Re: Talking Point: What Is The Most Frustrated You've Ever Been With A Video Game?
Two recent examples:

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Management And Tycoon Games
Spiritfarer's the first game that comes to mind on reading 'management'. Great indie.
Re: Talking Point: What Game Do You Replay Every Year?
Hyper Light Drifter for me. An underrated indie masterpiece with an incredible soundtrack.
I would say Slay the Spire as well, but being a roguelike (with natural replayability), it probably doesn't count for the list.
Re: Feature: Nintendo Life's Most Anticipated Games For 2023 (That Aren't Zelda)

Re: Zany RPG 'Nobody Saves The World' Coming To Switch This Month

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 2nd)
Focusing mainly on Siralim Ultimate (Steam) and a little bit more Death's Door (Switch). But otherwise, it's a Siralim weekend
P.S. Hyper Light Drifter is still one of my favourite indies, period. I ought to be double-dipping that game on Steam sooner than later.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 26th)
Mainly just Siralim Ultimate on Steam. Beat the main story a couple days back, so am now getting started with what seems like a really long post-game (infinite, perhaps?)

Re: Feature: 29 Best 3DS eShop Games You Should Get Before They're Gone Forever

Re: The IGF Award Nominations Are In, Celebrating The Past Year's Best Indie Games
I second Inscryption, a surprisingly refreshing take on the deckbuilder genre with a well-crafted lore.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Ports We'd Love To See In 2022
As much as I really enjoyed Inscryption on Steam, I have pretty big doubt of it porting to Switch; given some of its 'elements' would give the game less sense as a console port (unless they're completely reworked).
Re: Feature: The Best Hidden Gems And Underrated Switch Games Of 2021
@KevinLo9 Definite yes. If you've any interest in card-battlers and/or roguelikes, Monster Train demands your attention.
