It's been another fun week of the Nintendo Life, with some interesting news and announcements giving us plenty to chew over. A big one was the report that Nintendo is set to add Game Boy / Color to Nintendo Switch Online, there was intrigue around updated PEGI rating requirements around gambling, we shared our review of Sonic Colors Ultimate, there were rumours around an upcoming Nintendo Direct (of course), and the unhackable Wii Mini actually got hacked. And lots more besides, but you get the idea.
After all that it's time to chill out and discuss our weekend gaming plans. A few members of the Nintendo Life team have done just that below, so feel free to give our entries a read and then join in with your own via our comment section. Enjoy!

I need to make a long overdue return to The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles; so far I've reached the 4th case so it's definitely time to pick it back up. I may start a fresh playthrough of Luigi's Mansion 3 as well, it may not be Halloween yet but I just have a surprising desire to play it again.
Outside of Switch I'm still very much enjoying Psychonauts 2, and I've also started working through The Ascent as well, which is beautiful and simplisic - you just shoot a bunch of goons in a cyberpunk environment, and that's just fine.

This weekend, when I'm not unpacking even more IKEA purchases, I'll be playing Kitaria Fables (review coming soon). I know this is a small spoiler for the review, but I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying it! I hope I also get time to play more NES games — we just got the Commodore 1702 set up next to the flatscreen, because I want to play the game properly!

Hello. This weekend I’m going to be spending any free gaming time I get playing No More Heroes 3. I’ve just finished up my first ever playthrough of Desperate Struggle (loved it) and am just gonna keep the momentum up and blast straight into Travis Touchdown’s latest trashy adventure.
Besides this, and with new WarioWare about to drop on Switch, I’ve dusted off my 2DS and am planning to introduce my two kids to WarioWare Gold before getting them started on Get It Together! Have a good weekend, whatever you’re all up to or playing.

Hey folks! Another quiet weekend for me, so I'll be kicking back with a few games. I'm still working through Guacamelee!, really taking my time with it and enjoying every moment. I've also revisited Animal Crossing: New Horizons after an extended break, so it's nice to get back into the swing of things there too. Lots of new weeds to clear out, at least!
Elsewhere, I'm enjoying the heck out of Psychonauts 2 on the Series X; no joke guys, this might be one of my favourite platformers of all time. It's up there with the very best!
As always, thanks for reading! Make sure to leave us a comment below with your weekend gaming plans!

I just finished Xenoblade Future Connected. Wow, I am hyped for a potential XC3.
Now playing Paper Mario Origami King. Another game I got fairly cheap. I just started so let’s see.
I AM playing Doom Eternal.
Beat metroid fusion in 2.06 this morning and planning on having a mario kart lan party for my birthday tomorrow!
Not much time for Skyward Sword this weekend so just dipping into some Mario Maker 2, my usual go-to for bite size sessions!
Finished the beast that is Kirby’s Dream Land hard mode, going to finish Metroid Prime 3 this weekend perhaps and will start Metroid Other M afterwards
I decided to pick up Prinny Presents NIS Classics Volume 1 and Shadowverse: Champion’s Battle this weekend, so I’m gonna be starting those! I’ll also keep playing Monster Hunter Stories 2 of course. I’m on the third village and still having a blast with the game.
I'm gonna start my third Zelda game, the twilight Princess when it arrives this afternoon (hopefully)
The usual Xbox stuff like Halo 5, was going to be Sonic Colours Ultimate but physical is delayed until October 1st and the Digital Deluxe XB1 version I bought surprisingly has massive framerate issues so I think my XB1 hard drive may be on its way out (I'd expect a 2010 Wii game to run smoothly on a XB1 given XB1 is more powerful).
Gradually making my way through NEO: TWEWY and finally accepted that RPGs just aren’t my thing any more. I’ll see it to the credits just to see what the story is about but can’t be bothered with side content or post-game.
Finally finished Three Houses after about 90 hours. Really enjoyed the Golden Deer route. Was gonna have a break from it but nope, started the Crimson Flower route now! Amazing game.
Also playing Cyberpunk on PS5 and going smoothly so far.
Have a good one folks!
I played Wii and Wii U games for this weekend. 🤓
1. Super Mario Galaxy 2 Wii
2. Boogie Wii
3. Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival Wii U
4. Skylanders Superchargers Wii U
I have reached World 2 for Super Mario Galaxy 2.
I have unlocked ALL songs for Boogie.
I played for 30 - 40 minutes for Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival to continue the progress of my AC Amiibo figurines.
I have reached Chapter 10 for Skylanders Superchargers.
Designing a stage on Smash Ultimate and getting better at Rocket League.
This weekend very little gaming for me! I have to focus on progressing the development of my own game
No PC this weekend, but plenty of console plans as usual - from Tales of Eternia and Monster Monpiece on Vita to Endless Frontier and Fire Emblem Echoes on 3DS. Switch should see a dose more of Skyrim and The Outer Worlds, Bioshock 2 and NFS Hot Pursuit, Nelke and Warframe, SuperMash and Blossom Tales... maybe even a couple more rounds of Super Animal Royale - the obligatory wait between matches is still a tedious genre staple to me, but overall this is one battle royale that may remain installed for much longer than the others.
Got particular mobile plans as well - there's a good bit of story content I shamefully fell behind in Tales of Crestoria, and Atelier Online is proving to be a pretty enticing experience so far, so I'll be trying to tackle all the starter event tasks and maybe score myself a Ryza.
No more heroes 3. Wonderful game!
I finally finished Skyward Sword, so now i'm going finish Bowser's Fury. After watching @JonComms video about DLC, I'm going to go back and finish the Donkey Kong story in Mario + Rabbids, I got stuck at one point and moved onto something else.
Monster Train (and maybe some more Spiritfarer). Just cleared Covenant 10 last night.
I have been playing Nintendo Land with my kids. I remember getting it at launch and thinking "when the kids are older I'd love to play with them". Last week I thought about it, took the WiiU out of the closet and oh my god it's so much fun.
Finishing the first Psychonauts and starting the AC Valhalla - Wrath of the Druids DLC. I want to finish both before Eastward releases on the 16th.
Playing through kings bounty 2 and darksiders genesis. Got warioware and cruis n blast on the way very soon!
Psychonauts 2. Fantastic game that would be well at home on the Switch.
I love games that just make you smile.
@rottame I used to sometimes play Metroid Blast with my dad and occasionally my sister when I could convince them, always with me in the Gunship and them on the ground. I've barely played any local multiplayer since then tbh, no one else I know cares about games lol. Maybe I'll revisit some of the Nintendoland single player stuff, actually finish the Donkey Kong one
Xbox: Starting with psychonauts 2.
Switch: Maybe a new playtrough of let's go pikachu
On Switch, I'm playing Resident Evil Revelations 2. Going off of what I've played (almost halfway through), it's probably my least favorite RE game I've played so far (the others being 1R, 2R, 3R, 4, 7, 8, Rev1), but it's not bad. Just feels off compared to the others in my personal opinion. Not a fan of having to switch between characters often, either.
On PS5, I'm thinking about trying to get back to Horizon Zero Dawn to prepare for Forbidden West, but I'm kind of struggling to get into it after having finished Ghost of Tsushima's expansion recently. I like HZD, but I just feel like Tsushima takes the same formula and handles it better personally. Maybe I should have spaced the two out more...
I've been in a bit of a classic GameBoy/GBC kick lately, and while the physical games I've ordered obviously won't be here for a while, I did pick up Mole Mania on 3DS Virtual Console and I've been pleasantly surprised by how fun it is! I definitely want to play more of it this weekend. I'd also really like to get back to Final Fantasy III Pixel Remaster on Steam and make some decent progress before the FFIV remaster drops.
Bowser's Fury. What a gem of a game
I beat Persona 5 Strikers last week (which was rather awesome. It was way better than I thought it would be, possibly surpassing the original game), so now I'm playing Spiritfarer (which I just picked up on the 50% off sale). I'm hopelessly addicted to this game. Its very relaxing, but it has all of these tasks to do that overlap with each other that constantly gives you things to do. Micromanaging the needs of my guests, while in a constant cycle of travelling/building/harvesting/collecting materials never gets old. And I haven't even had to say goodbye to any of my guests yet, in which I could see being pretty gutting, as I really love the characters in this game. The visuals are also fantastic, the music is chill and atmospheric, and Stella's cat is just adorable. What more could I ask for?
I started Kitaria Fables last night but was too tired to get anywhere after a brutal week at work. I'll be going back to that this morning and hopefully not falling asleep with my thumb on the joystick.
I'll be continuing Shadowverse: Champion's Battle, as well. Playing the silver cup now, and I'm stuck fighting an amazingly obnoxious chef. So annoying.
I might also be doing some shopping for a new gaming laptop this weekend as I just got a pretty fat raise and feel like I deserve to indulge myself with something extravagant.
@VIIIAxel RER2 is really good in coop, but I agree when it comes to solo play.
Puyo Puyo Tetris 2... Working my way up the online Tetris League but it seems to be dead in Europe and America as I only ever play against the Japanese and damn they're tough!
I’ve just beaten the first Dragon Quest, I love the recent entries in the series and I was curious to sample the DNA of jrpgs. I thought it held up really well and was great fun.
I’ve realised I’ve not played a Fire Emblem game since 3 Houses, and I think that’s been 2 years. So maybe I will go for Echoes or Sacred Stones next, I’m leaning towards the latter.
Tate Mode like it's 1989
Finishing up The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles
Still playing Skyward Sword here and some quick matches of Pac Man and Tetris 99 and Sudoku
@Clyde_Radcliffe Did you play story mode to the end? If you did, what's your take on it?
I have a lot of work this week. Sadly, I'm haven't played any games this week.
@charlieonholiday have fun, Origami king really surprised me just how fun it was!
More Super Robot Wars X for me, where I’m liking the mix of anime they included this time. There’s a decent amount of focus on Aura Battler Dunbine, which is one of my fave old mech anime.
Also, Spelunky, where I love trying to die repeatedly as little as possible! Slowly improving and learning.
I think with the kiddos sleepover tonight we’ll watch Labyrinth (muppets and David Bowie 80s classic) and forget about back to school for a while. 😁
@rottame that must be a great time. My friends were hooked on Mario chase and Luigi's mansion alone!
finished no more heroes 3 this morning, really, really enjoyed it but i still think the first game is my favourite, i'll still be playing to finish up the stuff i missed in the open world, and i'm tempted to either go back to my ni no kuni playthrough with the sequel coming soon or continue on with miitopia
I'm in the middle of renovating my house, but managed to set up the n64. Just got Mario party 1, one of the last ones I hadn't played and I'm having an awesome time!! (It's one of those childhood dream come true things finally owning this! 😁)
For some reason I'm now marathoning the entire Professor Layton series. I'm continuing with BotW, with an aim to then (re)play every game in chronological order. There's also The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. I also started playing Gnosia, that's a real hidden gem.
I am racing: Need for Speed, Rush Rally Origins (I bought RR3 on sale, haven't tried yet), Skydrift and a little Rocket League.
But at 6 PM on a Saturday night, I will be listening to K.K.
Happy gaming everyone!
Switch - Playing my favourite game of all time, Super Mario Galaxy!
PS5 - GTA Online with friends!
PC - Gmod with friends!
Have a good weekend everyone!
This week I will be mostly playing
Age of Calamity
Mario + Rabbids
Two Point Hospital
@Hav
I've got a bit more free time on my hands lately, but yeah, I know the situation of working a lot and squeezing in some time to game. I usually revert to platform games where I try to finish two or three short stages a day.
@Vyacheslav333
Happy for you that you have work, but I hope you'll have some free time soon.
@John_Deacon I've not played that mode yet as I'm crap at Puyo Puyo but probably will as I'm intrigued by the characters! Some of their voice comments are quite funny. How did you find it?
Still want to finish Skyward Sword. Playing Axiom Verge 2 and Halo on xcloud.
Yakuza 4 (ps4/ps5) - almost done with this game, a lot of fun so far. I would rank it alongside 3, above K1 and FotNS and under YK2, Y0 and judgment.
Mighty gunvolt burst (NS) - had to go to the doctor because I was bitten by a horse-fly and only brought my switch so decided to replay it. Fun but frustrating.
Blood & truth (PSVR/ps5) - fun semi on rails shooter. Almost beat it. Would recommend.
Spider-man remastered (ps5) - finally gonna play this game after I bought the ps4 version at launch and kept postponing it and bought miles morales at launch and once again postponing it.
And like every week.
Pokemon shield (NS) - shiny hunting like always. Trying to breed a sandygast.
I've played through a lot of Metroid games this year. Just beat Prime 2 for the first time and started Prime 3 today. The motion controls works fine, but i prefer the gamecube style.
The Prime games never really hooked me back then but i like them much more nowadays. Might also give Other M another shot before Dread comes out
Bravely default 2!
Pokemon White. Hope to finish it this month. I've been playing Pokemon Shield again too. Getting excited for Diamond/Pearl remakes.
Have a good weekend everyone.
I’m down to the last 20 or so endings in Reventure. I have really enjoyed it so far.
And as always, I’ll be rotating Columns II and Islanders while listening to Creepypasta podcasts.
I'm NOT playing WarioWare, even though it's already downloaded onto my Switch.. RAWR!!!
Stupid Nintendo being all precise about their release dates.
Working trough Axiom Verge, mixing in the last part of the Let's go Pikachu story and some races in Paradise city and Horizon chase turbo. Also, I rediscovered recently Floor kids.
@immensechicken happy imminent birthday.
The mario kart lan party I always wished to do more was 8 player double dash.
Super Mario Maker 2 (Switch),
The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Master Mode (Switch),
Super Mario 64 (Super Mario 3D All-Stars Switch),
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout (PS4),
Rocket League (PS4),
Madden NFL 21 (PS4),
NHL 20 (PS4).
I just finished psychonauts 2 and what a ride that was! I’d say it’s a game of the year contender possibly. I may jump back and finish the first one. I got stuck on it years ago and remember loving it as well but got distracted somehow. I’ve also started playing on civilization 6 again. That game is a total time sink for me as I’m always up for one more turn. I just downloaded the last bit of dlc for it, the new frontier, on my series x.
Last story of Great Ace Attorney 1, and starting on the second game if I don’t get engrossed with Kitaria Fables… which I’m still on the fence about.
@nhSnork playing Vita is now convincing me to pull out mine for some Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir.
Not sure! I wrapped up the first Great Ace Attorney game last night (absolutely loved it), and I want to take a little break before starting the second one. My plan was to play Axiom Verge 2 between the two, but I started it last night, and ehhh…I don’t know. I kinda don’t want to continue. I’ll probably just do stuff like Picross and Mario Golf for a bit. Oh! Maybe I’ll go back to Skyward Sword.
@darkswabber during the week I played on yakuza 5 some. It’s losing me a bit as there’s just so much talking, and that’d be fine if I was more interested. 0 and 4 were the high points for me, 3 had its moments but it’s the only one I couldn’t finish so far, I found it very tedious in the sections.
After 240 hours of Monster Hunter Rise I’ve put it aside to focus on some SNES games. 30 year anniversary had me reminiscing. First one on the list ? Super Earth Defense Force
Playing: Hades, Mario Golf,Puss
Okey, okey, I'll tell you! I'm playing possum.
I had one more swan song with Super Mario Maker 2 before I sold it. Such a good premise, but such a slog finding great levels that use its best features. I've been back to Splatoon 2, and recently picked up Spiritfarer on sale.
Switch: Still working on Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana and entered chapter 6 recently. I believe I'm nearing the home stretch, so I plan to hit the game hard over the next few days. My hope is to finish it before I travel out of state next weekend.
Wii U: I've been playing Drill Dozer in small spurts and really enjoy the game! The best parts for me are that the rumble was translated to the Gamepad controller and that some of the soundbits are shared by the Gen 3 Pokemon games. Definitely a lesser known Game Freak gem.
Happy gaming!
Mostly Quake on Switch. So much fun going back to it.
I picked up a New 3DS XL from eBay last week. Love the 3D effect! Deciding whether to keep my New 2DS XL as my main system still or whether to transfer over. The system is in perfect condition (which seems to be pretty hard to find). The one issue I have is that sometimes the right speaker will rattle/distort. Looking around this seems to be a relatively common issue. The console is in such great condition I don't really want to send it back, so I'm thinking I'll just live with it. It also seems likely any other unit will have the same issue anyway.
I've been playing a LOT of Picross recently, bouncing between several Picross games. Tomorrow's my birthday and I'm getting Mario 3D World and the Japan-only Yo-Kai Watch 1 Switch port so hopefully I'll be able to play those as well.
Also been trying to play more Mario Maker 2 and Xenoblade Definitive but I haven't really had time for those. Hopefully soon!
Rocket League Focusing on what I can learn to stay out of Platinum. Seems harder to reach diamond this season. Also struggling to get to diamond tournaments this season. Seems like there's been a meta change. Plat III teammates ball chase and double commit & stay in the corner at defense much more than I'm used to seeing.
Luigi's Manasion 3 Picked up the game after a year+ of not touching it. Completed floor 11F.
Mario Kart 8 Kept almost winning then getting destroyed by shell after shell in Regional races. .So, I left and played some "no items, just skill" tournament" - where skill matters. I did well, except for switch user "herrik" who I often encounter. I can see he has 800 hours logged in MK8. On Royal Raceway, 150cc, no items/boosts, I saw him cut through the grass to hit the jump - never seen that done before without mushrooms/stars. Going to have to try that line for myself.
I'm about to finish M+R Donkey Kong Adventure, then probably get back to the main game. I may see more of what Lust for Darkness is about but that's about it.
Octopath Traveler! So damg good. The demo totally sold me. Developers would 100% sell more games if there were more demos.
I took a break from BG2: Throne of Bhaal & Pillars of Eternity to play through both Axiom Verge 2 & Ori & the Will of the Wisps (which I finished a couple of days ago). Now I'm working through Jenny LeClue Detectivù.
Finished Badland and so started Koloro for my artistic-platformer needs. Also playing some Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Planning to get back to Rogue Heroes which I played a ton of as a demo but barely at all after I actually bought it. May also continue on my extremely slow/few minutes at a time journey into Undermine.
Currently not feeling anything. Stuck to making music instead.
@Ear_wiG I agree Octopath had a great demo but some games (cough Balan Wonderland) actually sell less because they put out a demo.
Saints Row 2 (Xbox 360)
Soulcalibur 1 (Xbox 360)
Worms (2007) (Xbox 360)
Hydro Thunder Hurricane (Xbox 360)
Still working through Ori and the Blind Forest. It’s an incredible game, but I keep getting distracted by THPS 1+2 (and also…life). Hoping I can make some headway through the Forlorn Ruins this weekend, and still keep clearing THPS 1+2 with every pro. Cheers everyone!
Busy weekend for me, just have enough time to squeeze in Animal Crossing
Last night I ended up getting Street Fighters 30th Anniversary Collection which I am super excited to give a try! I had 924 gold coins and buying it gave me 75 more so I had exactly enough gold coins to buy quake for free! I initially wasn't gonna buy the anniversary collection just yet because I know it goes on sale all the time. But seeing that it would give me just enough gold coins for quake (which I REALLY wanted to try), and that it was the last hour of the sale...I just couldn't resist 😂
I’m finishing off Links Awakening DX on the 3DS. Really good game!
Minecraft dungeons 2 player with my bro and Loz Botw
Tetris 99 marathon mode. Standard.
DOOM Eternal, Ghostrunner, Smash Bros Ultimate, and something on the Wii U.
Ah the weekend is upon us…a long weekend at that for my fellow N.Americans! This week I’ll be continuing my play thru of NMH 3, been enjoying what I’ve played so far, Travis and co are still as crazy as ever! I’ve recently found myself getting back on the bike in Lonely Mountains Downhill, such a great game. It’s stressful but relaxing..highly recommend it! Who needs Pelaton??? Lol..Other than that I really should finish up Metro 2033 and get to work on my good ol friend the Backlog.
I keep complaining about my backlog and yet I’ve added 4 new games this week, managed to snag Spiritfarer, EverSpace, Danmaku 3 unlimited on sale to name a few…
Luigis Mansion 3 is another title I need to return too. It’s an amazing game that no one ever seems to complete?! Good tho g it’s a long weekend as I still need to try out all the new MH Rise updates, not to mention I have a couple fantasy football drafts this weekend!
Hope everyone has a happy and soulful weekend!
Lego marvel superheroes 2 and have 3 areas left to do.( wakanda,Manhattan noir, and the old west.) then I will go to ninja go movie or Jurassic world. Also going to finish rewatching the dark knight trilogy
@FishyS Risk vs. reward I guess; your game actually has to be good still! 🤣
@Grumblevolcano Your hard drive is fine. Sonic has issues across all platforms apparently, especially the Switch version. The game is just a shoddy remaster unfortunately.
Mahjong by Microsoft (Android) - I'm working on the Puzzle packs also the daily challenges.
Equalicious (Windows Phone) - Still playing on and off.
Rayman Fiesta Run (Windows Phone) - I'm surprised by how well this runs on a phone.
About to finish up Blaster Master Zero 3. I think I’m at the last area. Then I will start replaying all the 2D Metroid games in order starting with Metroid on the Famicom Disk System. Maybe a little Mario Golf Super Rush online tonight.
@Clyde_Radcliffe I actually haven't bought PPT 2 yet. I played the hell out of the first game and I'm considering buying the second one, but as I'm basically a solo player, I'd like to know exactly what story mode has to offer from someone who has played through it. Reviews usually don't give us more than a general view of story mode
Can't believe you guys gave Colours an 8/10 with the state that it's in. Same applies to most of the reviews for the game. It's even harder to take professional reviews of Sonic games seriously now.
Right now it’s Picross Genesis & Master System collection. And Pshyconaughts 2 on Xbox One X. And Maybe some Iki Island DLC in GoT on PS4. Have a great weekend!
Those comments make me want to play Psychonauts 2! I'm playing Rocket League, Bugsnax, Doom Eternal, WRC 9, and Pumpkin Jack. Most of those I'm enjoying at 120fps or 144fps. Playing games at such smooth frame rates is one of my favorite things! Oh, and I keep finding more and more great little Game Builder Garage games. It's awesome how more and more youtube videos keep coming out highlighting great games and including the download codes. My favorite one today is a 3D platformer time trial. I think it's called Adventure of Monty. You run faster by keeping the run button held down, and you have a fun air dash (r button) when you've already jumped and are in the air. I also like all the weird, Hard Drivin-like, racing games on GBG.
@immensechicken
1 - It's a wireless party, not LAN you dolt.
2 - Isabelle (the dog) is going to kick your butt.
3 - You will receive your birthday presents later on.
4 - You are old, birthday boy.
I have been playing Descenders since it got a pretty sizable discount this week, and I am addicted to it! Each run is different, and it is always satisfying pulling off a big trick on a tough course! I am also playing Risk of Rain 2 some more. I have already beaten the game 4 times, but I want to see all of the secret areas plus complete the game with every character so I have a good while of gaming to go. That is definitely easier said than done sometimes. I also beat Streets of Rage 4 for the first time with my brother. Good times. Happy gaming everyone!
On the last knockings of Skyward Sword HD. Took a couple of weeks away from it, too busy, got to the last dungeon on Friday…wow. Need to mop up a couple of side bits before I commit to it though.
I am replaying Ocarina of time 3D and after watching the DLC video I want to also replay octo expansion...that DLC has to be the best add-on I've ever bought for any game.
i was playing fortnite and zombie hill race
Since no one mentioned it, I played Baldo through the first dungeon, it is really a great game, tough as nail but not mean, bugs? Haven’t seen any. It’s overall fun and charming and it’s keeping me away from Skywards Sword... which I find a bit boring
Totally late for this one. It is Labor Day weekend here and it is Monday already, but wanted to say that I will be playing (or rather, did play) a lot of Metroid: Samus Returns on the 3ds for Dread. Just got 7 Metroids left to kill.
Tokyo School Life and Wolfenstein: Youngblood currently
