More interested in Labo now I've seen some youtube videos. The cardboard stands up to cat abuse. One guy made a guitar with Labo and a tennis racket with the Switch having the strummable strings. RC racing looks way more fun than it has any right to be. And the weird goofy animal in the cart in the house seems strangely moreish. It's the piano that first got my attention, yet it's everything else grabbing my attention. When get gonna build the RC first but then the house, which I had zero interest in, cos gotta play that platform game. The fish graphics look sweet in the rod game. And the bike game seems better than I expected. Many youtubers are complaining that it takes literally days to make everything. But they're missing the point. Building it is part of the experience.
I was worried original owners would be screwed with an excessive update price. But £ 3.99? Sensible, fair, and no doubt they're gonna have an extra £4000000 in sales of the DLC in pretty sharp order. Well done Sega!
While everyone waits for this, in the interim I strongly advise getting Riptide GP Renegade. Wave Race meets Road Rash by the Hydro Thunder team. And it's as good as that concept sounds. (BTW booted up last night and there was an update for the game. Not sure what for. Finally got partner to play multiplayer so possible related to that.)
Skies of Arcadia might be possible. There was a TON of people asking for .Hack on forum sites. NamcoBandai took note and did a full upgrade. Skies of Arcadia getting the same sort of buzz that .Hack was getting not so long ago. (BTW Skies of Arcadia is the only game my partner ever watched me play as enjoyed the storyline ).
Nice. But the fact it's going physical actually has me a bit worried, as in, what price point will it be? With so much awesome shooter business from the likes of Hamster that it's hard for me to get anything that breaks a tenner.
Want both GOW and Labo. They're very different propositions though. Any kind of comparison is kind of redundant. Two very different markets, with a huge crossover of people who like anything fun and worthwhile which both GOW and Labo appear to be.
Laser Ghost with joy con action. A Sega Ages collection featuring Shining Force both Mega Drive and Saturn games, plus I think there was a couple Game Gear games. Story of Thor 1 / 2. Skies of Arcadia for those that don't have the gorgeous GameCube version. Jet Set Radio, especially Future. The Sega Rally games. Manx TT.
While not for me potential system seller for some of my mates. My constant jabs about awesome retro games wasn't floating their boat, but THIS playable during work lunch hour? Well, conversations were good while they lasted.
I think it still surpasses many modern SHMUPs. And even a quality shooter like Danmaku can only claim to be as good as. Ikaruga is a sublime shooter that well justifies its reputation. It kinda hypnotizes you with its sheer awesomeness when you play it.
Me want so badly. First time I started calling verticals TATE was around 1999 when SEGA mags started previewing/ reviewing import shooters and always known it as TATE since then. I'm also kind of surprised many SHMUP fans weren't aware it was called TATE mode. However it could just be that it's an old term that went out of fashion, except by old fogies like me, which is now back as the Switch is the perfect TATE device. And those that don't like the term, well you gotta learn to love it.
Love BomberMan but hate the art style here, looks ugly. However I'm sure others will like it, so a pass for me, but there will be an audience for it easy.
Love Disgaea but already playe to death on PS2 and also own on DS or PSP. And as the graphics can't be much improved on the already awesome original, even with a few extra bells and whistles. Fast forward 2021 and I'll probably pick up for a tenner.
My favourite and most played shoot em up by far.Still got the gamecube version which I'll never give up just because of the many hours, weeks, years I've spent on this game. Still got a gamecube hoooked up to the TV for the likes of this (along with Mario Kart Double Dash, GBA player, and a good deal of other games including some awesome 3rd party releases). No issues what so ever double dipping for this.
Even I will admit I'm not in favour of censorship. Gotta admit I'm VERY disappointed in NintendoLife. They used PDP's name in the article when they didn't need to. They could have just mentioned the game and the developers. By highlighting PDP's involvement it was obvious it would get up some peoples backs. So they get a bit of controversy going, big numbers chatting. The by-product is NintendoLife gets discussions going about subjects that are ill suited to their 'family friendly' site. And so we all, on both sides of the argument, fall into their media savvy trap and by association PDP.
The problem with PDP is he used casual racism and anti semitism to further his own ends. He knew it would be controversial, garner colum inches, but worked on the basis of all news is good news. His 'apology' is not acceptable as he knew what he was doing from the word go. Although he acts like it he is not a child. He works in the media and PR and he made the decision to drum up publicity for himself in the most inflamatory way possible, using the get out clause of only joking, I'm sorry, won't d it again. Well at least not until he needs just that little bit more publicity. He's not an idiot. He's a self serving, arrogant, .... Those who defend him really want to think about whether they'd be happy for their younger relatives to listen to his nonsense when he next decides to do his Frankie Boyle for 12 year olds routine.
Wow! The cheat works! How awesome it was included on the Switch version. Nowadays an extra character would be sold as DLC. Any more games with cheats I need to know about?
I strongly recommend checking out some of the dedicated Neo Geo youtube sites with reviews of this game. A lot of people actively hate this game. It's also considered too difficult and unfair in it's mechanics. I may still pick it up as an example of when great ideas go wrong, and just because there is literally no other game like it. You may be better served by Magical Drop or the truly rather wonderful Gunbarich.
One of my favourite games on the Sega Master System was Cloud Master. A horizontal shoot em up where a guy rode a cloud shooting chinese symbols, scrolls and gods. Truly wonderful with graphics that even look good now. Tengai feels like a spiritual successor to Cloud Master and I'm loving it. Weirdly I prefer verical shoot em ups, yet 2 of my top 3 are horizontal.
Nordic released Darksiders dirt cheap on the Wii U. If they release this for say £15 it's worth a punt. Got the Wii U version and it's cool. Characters are actually pretty chilled. Not sure why it gets so much hate. I played this and DK around the same time. When I got frustrated with DK this was a nice leisurely alternative. If released at the right price, which I think it will, then it's kinda fun.
Secret of Mana Official Game Secrets. Got this with the game on a trip to York in GameStation about 15 years back. Paid £60, which seemed a bit much but having the game AND the book made it a must have.I lost the book in a house move 5 years ago. I'd stored a fair bit of stuff at my parents. Any ways, 2 weeks ago my dad brought round a few odds and ends from their place. Low and behold there was the Secret of Mana book, along with N64 Diddy Kong Racing in a slightly bashed box. Truly a great weekend - cheers dad! Any ways the book is written as a fantasy story to be read alongside the game, rather than a straight strategy guide. It uses cheap paper, and photo images are black and white, but like the game it oozes charm. Beats the pants off a wiki page any day.
My bet is a Snatcher remake. Killer 7 would be cool but not at the level of that game. Snatcher has the same sort of caché as Shenmue. Shenmue 3 was clamoured for and got. Snatcher hasn't had the same sort of calls for a remake. Not because people don't want it, but because no one would expect it in a million years. Gamers of a certain age would scream the roof down if it is Snatcher. We're bored of waiting for Half Life 3, Shenmue and FF VII are currently stuck in development (hell?), and if nothing else, Suda 51 is proficient at delivering games at a good steady rate and on time. The only reason I don't think the article relates to Killer 7 (although I think that may also be coming) is that the Gamecube version still looks pretty stunning to this day. (And I'm sure a book could be written on how Gamecube graphics and gameplay have aged better than any other console). He's involvement with Sdatcher shows a love for Snatcher so I'm starting to get a teeny bit excited. Oh, and anyone under the age of 35 wondering what the hell Snatcher is; google best Sega Mega CD games.
Hmmm. I'll wait, however when it does finally release it'll be much reduced on PS4. So I can see a scenario where you'll have a choice between £20 on PS4 and £50 on Switch. It's kind of a similar situation to Ys, however that game was very niche ( although I think it could be huge on Switch), so the PS4 version hasn't lost too much of it's new sale value. They could sweeten the deal by including any DLC, but as the Switch now established I can't see that happening.
