THQ Nordic has issued a light-hearted press release detailing its reasons for skipping E3 this year.
According to the PR, THQ Nordic's team have decided that it doesn't want to miss any of this year's World Cup - which is being held in Russia - and therefore won't be displaying its wares at E3.
Here's the full PR:
It is with great regret that we at THQ Nordic must report that we will be unable to miss a single moment of this great sporting event. Therefore, we will be forced to stay in our lovely Viennese beer gardens, blowing the froth off a couple, watching football and one or two cool press conferences on Twitch (looking at you, Devolver) instead of rocking it ourselves.
We have to admit, we are going to miss our 9 AM pint of beer in the "Ye Olde King’s Head" Pub in Santa Monica, where they show all matches live, but with the World Cup being held in Russia, it would mean a 7 AM beer – that’s too early, even for Austrians, let alone the Swedes.
We are looking forward to presenting all our great upcoming games like Darksiders 3, Biomutant, Fade to Silence or Wreckfest and even some unannounced titles for the first time at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany and shortly after at PAX West in Seattle.
Perhaps THQ Nordic will have some Switch-related stuff to show off at Gamescom also? Let us know what you think by posting a comment.

Well, that's definitely a funny way to declare a no-show.
Can't blame them
Absolutely love it, wish my work did this lol
The right move
I love watching the World Cup. I can't disagree with them.
We'll stay at the Winchester, grab a pint, and wait for E3 to blow over.
Love it.
The World Cup, and football in general sucks, and I hate living in a country that acts like it's the most important thing ever.
And Austria didn't even qualify...
They are missing the event just to see a bunch of sweaty men chase after a ball? #mindblown
World Cup? Oh, is that that European football thing?
@Dr_Corndog
It called soccer for those despicable Americans as your sport called American football ^^
Reaction to news
Is it just me or does this sound like bs. I mean just say ypu won't show up ,but don't say it because of the world cup
@Arnold-Kage I'm booking some leave next year for the Rugby World Cup in Japan. I guess the Austrians are on a high after a thumping win over Lazio yesterday
Fair shout. I'd rather be in a Viennese Beer Garden in June than some sweaty games show. Nice gaff, Vienna.
Fair play to them I suppose. E3 isn't as monolithic as it once was, there are plenty of other expos and events to attend. Though this sounds a bit more like a funny excuse because some of their announcements aren't quite ready yet.
I doubt if they're really missing E3 for the World Cup. They're just skipping it for other reasons, and just wanted to have a little laugh.
@ThanosReXXX i think it's evident that they're joking if you trust them a little bit more, there are more reasons to skip E3 than the World Cup.
Why aren't they professional athletes if they enjoy sports more than their job lol
I love every ounce of this! Joking or not joking, real or just an excuse, I wonder if it's in this developer's best interest to put up the money it cost to attend and actually have a presence at the event. I think this is especially true with the current state of social media. Nintendo proved that you can make a splash without actually having a huge press conference. THQ Nordic can produce a 30 minute video that they release the week of E3 or even the week right before E3 and it cost them a fraction of the price.
@TheDavyStar Of course that's clear, but the subject matter of the joke isn't really all that funny, so that kinda ruins the joke.
Thanks for trying to clarify, but it was rather unnecessary: I'm not THAT dense...
@Taffy
That makes sense in an way. Hope you enjoy yourself in Japan
I love this press release. I'm also excited about what THQ is doing these days.
I’m not even into football, but you know, fair play to them. Even I'll end up in a pub downing a few watching the game. It's the World Cup!
Are you guys really having having a serious political discussion here?
For what it's worth, I find it laughable that people actually compare Trump and Putin to Hitler and Stalin; neither of them have killed millions of civillians so it seems juuuust a little bit hyperbolic?
I'm just gonna leave it there though.
"It is with great regret that we at THQ Nordic must report that we will be unable to miss a single moment of this great sporting event. I swear to God, I'm currently picturing the guys watching the World Cup while high as all hell and so are all of you reading this sentence. Stoner THQ confirmed.
They probably heard what else was getting shown this year and realised their games would get heavily overshadowed anyway.
(crosses fingers for Cyberpunk and FF7)
So no Darksiders 3 at E3 this year. Will we get a announcement of a Switch-version though?
This site isn't the place for political discussion. Thanks.
Before I read their statement, I thought that that meant that these games hadn't progressed much since last time. But they said they'll still come out this year... but on Switch? I kinda doubt it
