Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2021 Nintendo Direct, Then?

Sabrewing

Famicom Detective Club and Legend of Mana were nice surprises, and Ninja Gaiden would have been if its existence hadn't been leaked weeks ago. That DC Heroines game is just weird, Mario Golf wasn't asked for but isn't bad either, and I can't really hate Pyra/Mythra in Smash because people kept demanding her or Rex when the game launched, so there's obviously a rabid fanbase out for them.

But here's hoping that pesky Eternal Darkness trademark gets used this year...

Re: Square Enix Is Releasing A Legend Of Mana Remaster On Switch This June

Sabrewing

@NintendoByNature In the opening cutscene, the world LOM takes place in, Fa'Diel, is destroyed. It's up to the protagonist to collect items known as "Artifacts" which have the "memories" of the land stored in them, placing them on a map in order to bring the area back into existence. It's a pretty deep system that factors into the game's crafting as well as what sorts of enemy encounters you find in a given location. Think of it like The NeverEnding Story, when Bastian is wishing Fantasia/Fantastica back into existence using AURYN.

On topic, this is easily my favorite of the Mana series, and hopefully they relocalized it so that the dialogue is less stiff. Wonder if they'll include the various save bonuses from the original too — you could get a pet Chocobo by having an FF8 save, and a couple weapons/accessories by having a SaGa Frontier 2 and Chocobo Racing save, IIRC.

Honorable mention: Dillon's Dead-Heat Breakers.

EDIT: Also Jake Hunter Detective Story: Ghost of the Dusk, but then, that franchise has always been pretty under-the-radar in America. The DS game getting two separate publications , Detective Chronicles (the bad one) and Detective Story: Memories of the Past (the one you actually want), probably didn't help matters.

Re: Nintendo Executive Blocked Remake Of GoldenEye 007, Says Former Rare Dev

Still not as messy as what Nightdive Studios went through in trying to secure the license to No One Lives Forever in 2015 — one tangled mess of copyright between Fox/now Disney, the original publishers; Activision, who acquired some assets after a merger; and WB Games, Monolith's current owners. Nobody knows who owns what part(s) of NOLF, but they're all chomping at the bit to sue anyone who tries to use it in any way.

Re: Soapbox: Grinding Is Poor Gameplay Design That Doesn’t Respect Your Time

Sabrewing

When grinding actually rewards the player with additional skills or spells, I enjoy it. Like back in ye olden dayes of Phantasy Star where you would get new techniques when you reached certain levels. If the game is instead structured to make you visit a guild or otherwise train your abilities in another fashion, then grinding just feels like a waste of time.

Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate's Next Event Brings Us "Energetic Yellow Spirits" On January 29th

Sabrewing

I hope the pandemic isn't what slowed down the introduction of new Spirits; I enjoy collecting them. I can't imagine uploading batches of image files and text to be a super stressful endeavor, but I don't know how it works.

Even if getting resources from a third party is a limiting factor, some StarTropics, Geist, Cruis'n or Endless Ocean spirits would be appreciated. They also have plenty of ROB spirits, too, but none of the characters from the actual games Gyromite and Stack-Up.

Re: Video: 7 Legacy Sonic Games That Were Never Rereleased

Sabrewing

I hope they eventually republish the Advance trilogy; THQ said that the publishing rights have reverted to Sega by now, and they're very solid 2D Sonics. (Even if Cream breaks the sequels wide open.)

The lack of an HD Heroes is kinda odd, considering it's the debut of the modern Chaotix, so having it around would help contextualize them for new players. Then again, Colors is still trapped on the Wii and that's one of the best 3D Sonics, period. Very odd decisions.

Also, call me crazy, but they should do a third Sonic Storybook game (Secret Rings and Black Knight were the first two). I have ideas about one based on the Labours of Hercules which would be hilarious with Sonic characters filling the roles.

Re: Feature: Best Wii U Games

Sabrewing

I know Xenoblade X is the main Wii U port remaining that people really want, with fewer votes for Fatal Frame V (and I guess people would want Star Fox Zero if it had normal controls), but Tekken Tag 2 would be really great too. Definitive version of the game with the extra costumes and Tekken Ball mode, plus just having it on the go would be amazing.

Re: Talking Point: Are You A Player Or Collector?

Sabrewing

I've turned from a player to a collector over the years. I often just buy a game just to support devs I like anymore, though I'm more likely to play a game if it's advertised as short. I just don't have the patience for things longer than 20 hours anymore unless they REALLY speak to me.
