Re: Panzer Dragoon: Remake Landing On Switch This Winter

Best news of the Direct for me personally. And with the promise of Zwei to come, it gives me hope that Sega will give serious consideration to how well Panzer Dragoon Saga performed in their AGES poll — it placed third all by itself, under Jet Set Radio and Shenmue I/II, and separate from Panzer Dragoon as a whole.

@vio To be fair, Gradius and Salamander were in an ARCADE-centric collection in this instance...

And I would say NES Contra remixed the game enough to be considered a pretty different entity from the arcade version. Levels were lengthened with enemy placements changed, and the Famicom version is infamous for using an extra chip which enhanced the graphics, as well as including stage intermissions and an actual ENDING.

Also, two of the games are Super Contra and its NES port Super C, so...

Great! Still eager to learn what the remaining four Contra games in that collection are. I'm 99% sure Hard Corps and Operation C are two of them, but the other two are question marks after the revelation of the Castlevania set. They keep distancing themselves from NES Contra 1, and I would be VERY surprised (and frankly a little disgusted) if they actually bother with Contra Force, since that never got a Japanese release.

Just to be "that guy", it bears mentioning, for those people who don't watch the video first, that Nick didn't actually pay the full amount for the games, even on a lark. He had to replace his 3DS after it had been lost to a disaster, and the minigames had already been haggled & paid for on his account before that struck; when he restarted his save file on his new console, he just picked the dialogue options to pay full price, which then redirected to the eShop page that just let him redownload the DLC at no cost, since they were still tied to him.

So if anyone else wants to replicate his experiment, just play the game as expected first, then delete/reinstall your game and start over.

Re: Feature: Our Favourite Memories Of The Original Game Boy

I remember being amazed when my dad came back from a trip to Japan with a copy of Quarth for the Game Boy, which was one of the few titles never localized over here. And it didn't need any sort of adaptor to play. Nintendo was so cool to keep their handhelds region-free for as long as they did, and now the Switch has gone back to that.
