Earlier this week, THQ announced it would be bringing Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning to the Nintendo Switch.
While we know the hit RPG will include three DLCs - The Teeth of Naros, Legend of Dead Kel and Weapons and Armor bundles, the official game account on Twitter has now further clarified things. There'll be a physical edition and it will include the entire game on the cartridge - with "no downloads required".
In saying this, THQ Nordic has plans for a brand new expansion for the game called 'Fatesworn'. There are no details about this at the moment, but obviously, it will need to be downloaded when it's released.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning arrives on the Nintendo Switch on 16th March. Will you be picking up a physical or digital copy of this one? Did you play the original back in the day? Tell us below.

Lol, that has to be stated nowadays? What a silly state of affairs.
Woohoo!! I'm in! Played this on 360, but never got to finish. Cant wait to be able to tackle it in small chunks on the Switch.
Reading this and thinking of the days when this was normal made me feel old. And I'm not old enough to feel old.
I want to see how the Switch version compares to the Xbox version before I get it.
Truly these people are doing god's work.
@Trialus Did exactly what you wrote there hahaha. Also super stoked to be able to play this on the go and finish it once and for all
Well March just got busy and wallet killing. Already have MHR Deluxe pre-ordered, now I gotta get this too! Never got to finish on 360 as I got distracted with Mass Effect.... time to give this a full go!
I had totally forgotten about this game, but I did play quite a bit of it in the 360 era. It's kind of a poor man's Skyrim, albeit exclusively in 3rd person. Worth it if you crave that sort of thing.
Considering how little the remaster changed the game visually, the Switch might even be the best platform for this game.
Just bought a physical copy on PS4 for $9.95.
I don't think it will be that cheap on Switch.
Glad to see it is coming though.
THQ has been treating Switch owners well.
As someone who thoroughly enjoyed this game before it's controversies, (Rhode Island helped fund the game which led to several problems when the studio filed bankruptcy) it is way better than it deserved to be. Kind of like The Warriors.
There's combat depth, a cool story, lots of explorable space, and interesting lore. So long as they don't screw up the port, it should be a wonderful experience for those who decide to try it.
@Deliesh
KOA has little to do with Skyrim. KOA has a beautiful open world to explore, and excellent combat. Skyrim has an ugly world that looks like it's black and white, and the combat is terrible. KOA was a flop because of youtuber AngryJoe, who did a childish review of it in which he talked about Skyrim for half an hour instead of actually reviewing KOA. It's a shame that he managed to influence so many people.
@TheWingedAvenger It also flopped because EA didn't promote the game at all because they were scared it will take people away from Dragon Age.
@Tasuki Basically it flopped because of EA.
@sanderev Pretty much.
Thats a buying Point!
@TheWingedAvenger It has NOTHING to do with AngryJoe. EA is at fault for abandoning an excellent game.
But we already know EA is trash so ...
Also I won't even comment on "Skyrim being ugly" ...
KOA was tragically denied its rightful place as a commercial giant of the 7'th generation. It's a terrific game. It features an immersive open world with a WOW-like fantasy aesthetic, a deeply customizable arcade-style combat system and music composed by Grant Kirkhope. It rocks!
I have this on PC and am heavily considering the Switch port. This would be an excellent game to take on the go.
@Nin10dood I don't think you bought the game at that price when it was released. You probably waited quite a long time to do it. If you do the same when the Switch version releases, you'll probably get it for that price too, or similar. That's how this business works.
@TheWingedAvenger AngryJoe is a idiot. He was just going for views more then anything else. Gotta love these "influencers."
Gaming preppers can add this game to their list for the bunker.
The PS4 version apparently had some game breaking bugs that needed patching so hopefully they won’t be included on the cartridge. It’s a great game though.
The appeal of this game always somewhat escaped me.
I'll take another look into it. :3
This confirms a physical edition, and a complete one. I'll probably buy this game day one, but Monster Hunter is so close... I cannot decide XD
So they confirmed a physical and it will have all DLCs, then say there's another DLC which isn't on the cartridge?
Therefore all DLCs are NOT on the cartridge.
Therefore download is required. They are lying in their own tweet
The one that's not on the cartridge isn't out yet...
They're making one new DLC, which is unusual for a remaster.
@TheWingedAvenger
If you genuinely believe the game flopped due to a review from a youtuber, you are delusional. Yes it would have had a bearing for some poeple, but it certainly was not the reason why it did flop.
Your points about Skyrim being black an white do not help your comment as it simply isn't true, yes the colour palette is somewhat monochrome but far from all of it, it helps establish the coldness of the world.
@Bunkerneath
Hardly lying... there are plans for an expansion, nothing saying it's in development, you are just being a pedant
@Bunkerneath
It could be worse.
The developers of Trine said everything would come on the cartridge on both press release and twitter.
Trine 4 ended up being a download.........a full ge vs an un released DLC.
Nothing was said about the switch till either after the release or like a week before (it was too late to cancel my order-I would have done as I already had the trilogy digitally on the PS4)
@Bunkerneath I know righty! How lazy of them not to include full dlc even stuff which isn’t released yet on cartridge. Lazy lying devs, won’t get a penny from me!!!!!!
Preorder placed.
Now how about Destroy All Humans for Switch, THQ Nordic?
@Dezzy A sad state indeed, especially when you consider some "physical versions" are just a box with a download code
Guess this is as close to Fable as I'll ever get on the Switch.
ah yes, it wouldn't be the nintendo switch without its late releases
@Taffy Damn right, they should go into the future and bring back a complete edition for release before the DLC release date
Come on people, cant you guys take a joke?
I'm glad they decided to port it. When the original remaster was announced I was confused why Switch wasn't mentioned after barely anything was changed quality wise. Hopefully under THQ Nordic they can turn it into a proper franchise it deserves.
I reckon I'm gonna pick this up if it's a complete cart release. I missed out on this game the first time around.
Can I just say how messed up it is that this even has to be clarified? Nintendo’s biggest mistake with the Switch IMO, is physical carts that don’t actually have a playable game on them. Well, and the availability of carts overall.
@jtmnm what about the gameplay makes it arcade like?
Will I be running around looking for it in an open world, or does this arcade (battles) gameplay happen a lot? Honest question.
@TheWingedAvenger My impression of the game came from playing it, not some random YouTuber. I picked up the game at the recommendation of a GameStop employee at the time. That was the only opinion outside of my own that I had heard. As others have already pointed it out, I won't go into your reductionist view of Skyrim.
While I never played it, I may actually buy it just because of the NO DOWNLOAD required and all on the cart. I support those efforts.
Looking forward to trying it!
@Tasuki
My brother has been replaying it so I popped my PS4 copy into my PS5. Visually, it didn't age very well. I honestly think it would look better on Switch in handheld mode where visual faults will be harder to notice on a smaller screen.
I just wish they announced it was being worked on back when the other versions released. It hasn't been that long, perhaps the publisher was hoping this would help persuade people to double dip? 🤷♂️
Bless THQ. Their Switch support has been great. I'm still have hope it's not too late for our version of XIII and they listen to the criticism of the other versions.
Wow - the whole game on the cartridge and no download required?? What a concept!! /s
Seriously though, I wish more companies would take the time to do the same with such re-releases.
Then also my tax dollars helped develop this game, so maybe I should get it just for curiosity's sake. It's a little bit of Rhode Island history!
I wasn't planning to double dip this game. But now I might.
@Deliesh
You're lucky that a Gamestop employee was kind and knowledgeable enough to recommend KOA to you. AngryJoe's KOA video got over 2 million views. I'm sure that made the game flop.
As for Skyrim, you can walk through the overworld for several minutes without seeing any colors apart from black, white, and the occasional bronze. I'm pretty sure the developers had a round-table discussion, and someone said, "How can we make a huge world despite the limitations of the Xbox360?". Someone came up with the idea of making half the world covered with ice and snow, which relieves much of the strain on the console. In other words, if you make half the game virtually colorless, your open world can be much bigger. The main reason I'm so hard on Skyrim is that people overrate it and then say that KOA is a lesser wannabe. That's like saying that the Ferrari Testarossa is a lesser wannabe of the Wolseley Hornet.
@Rosona
Do you really believe that a negative youtube review that got 2 million views had only a minor effect on the sales of the game? I don't think most people would consider me delusional for saying that. You also fail to consider that when a popular youtuber says something, the rest usually just parrot what he said. 99% of gaming youtubers don't know s_ _ _ about videogames, so they don't mind just repeating what their peers say. Almost no one on youtube gave KOA a good review. That matters. Maybe you don't watch youtube, but 95% of gamers do.
@nerdface KOA's combat is certainly part of the core gameplay loop. It's actually regarded to be one of the game's biggest highlights. It fuses RPG leveling systems and skill trees with combat based in button combinations.
I'd recommend checking out some YT videos if you're skeptical. I'm pretty sure KOA received a few trailers focusing exclusively on its combat system.
Good, it was so annoying that Bioshock games needed downloading. Makes putting the cart in a faff, might as well have got them digital! (Especially as games like Witcher 3 managed to fit on a cart)
Jim Sterling made a good video a year ago called "Ten Great Games That Deserved More Success Than They Got", and the second game he covers is KOA. Ironically, when the game actually came out, he didn't do a video review of it. Notice in this video he mentions how colorful it is. That's because a lot of these big RPGs cut corners by making the games dark and not so colorful.
Cool, but I still think it's sad that devs have to go out of their way to tell us that we don't have to download the physical game we just bought.
@Dezzy yup, blame the likes of 2k and Ubi who like to make us download 90% of their cartridge-based games.
@TheWingedAvenger I'm sorry, either you did not play Skyrim for long, or you're just flat out wrong.
Google Skyrim and you will see that what you are saying is not the case at all.
@TheWingedAvenger @Sabrewing no, one video from angry joe did not flop a game lmao
People seriously underestimate the power of YouTube and creators with 2m odd views. I suspect because they are the very same people that are so easily influenced.
@BadWaluigi2 ... Why did you include me in this?
The physical edition will have the FULL game on the cartridge, NO downloads are required
That's hard to believe as updates as show up down the line.
Great to hear but kind of annoying that I got it for $10 for my Xbox and this version gets announced. Might wait for a price drop if I'm eager to get it again.
