Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Four More Titles

Sabrewing

@MadmanMike One of MANY changes Jaleco made to the game during localization from the Japanese version was turning the music into ambient background noise, probably in some effort to give the game more "edge" or something. Definitely a dumb change on their part.

Also, it's hilarious how Rival Turf (the first Rushing Beat game in the same series as Peace Keepers and Brawl Brothers) got totally passed over for SNES Online upload. Even they know it's just a weak, weak game.

Re: Rumour: Advert Suggests Smash Ultimate's Next DLC Fighter Could Be Revealed By Early October

Sabrewing

@PikaPhantom Namco owns Heihachi, so they can drop them whenever they want; and since Min Min is a fighting game person, he's thematically appropriate. See also: Akira and Jacky's costumes coming back with Terry.

Point being, Squenix considers themselves too important to "just" let their old DLC come back on its own, since they "deigned" to give us Cloud and Hero. Geno and Chocobo outfits will definitely tie in with the related fighter.

Re: Rumour: Advert Suggests Smash Ultimate's Next DLC Fighter Could Be Revealed By Early October

Sabrewing

Since Ultimate has been bringing back the paid Mii Fighter outfits from Smash 4, that means there's likely one more Squenix character on the docket, to bring back the Geno outfit and Chocobo hat, which may or may not bring back Namco's Lloyd Irving and Tower of Druaga outfits with them since they're RPG/adventure-related. If they added Terra from FF6 to finally give Final Fantasy the music representation it deserves, that would be lovely.

My top three wishes are Alex Roivas/Pious, Klonoa, and Adol Christin.

Re: Review: RPG Maker MV - A Potent Game Creation Tool, If You Have The Patience Required

Sabrewing

I will admit that I had expected there to be a greater amount of non-human character options, at least on par with what RPG Maker Fes on 3DS offered by the end of its support lifespan, so my own game is on hold until I see what sort of downloadable content Kadokawa releases; I would have to change too much of the plot to acommodate the current limitations, which I'm reluctant to do because it's basically going to be a love letter to my favorite sci-fi/fantasy tropes.

Also worth noting is that the game does what Mario Maker 1 did and drip-feeds you extra customization options for checking into the Makers Forum on a daily basis, though I don't know if the reward list extends past the ten days currently available on the screen.

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About 'Limited-Time' Games From Nintendo?

Sabrewing

It's still too early to pass a judgment call. Considering each game in the collection is from a different platform, when March 31 rolls around, they could be split up and become the foundation of digital N64/GameCube/Wii releases on the Switch.

Then again, I just really want Nintendo to do something Eternal Darkness-related with the Switch, so I'm trying to see any hint of a silver lining.

Re: Collection Of SaGa Brings The Final Fantasy Legend Trilogy To Switch This December

Sabrewing

@Silly_G SaGa is very, -very- different from Final Fantasy. In this collection, only SaGa 3/FF Legend 3 plays even remotely close to one, and it was developed by a different team from SaGa's usual.

Also, time to relive the memory of putting an end to a crime ring smuggling that most evil of drugs — BANANAS! https://legendsoflocalization.com/were-the-bananas-in-final-fantasy-legend-ii-actually-drugs/

Re: Herzog Zwei Joins Japan's Sega Ages Line On 27th August

Sabrewing

I remember back when Electronic Games Monthly gave Herzog Zwei 3s and 4s out of 10. All because the reviewers were stupified on how this strange new top-down shooter from Technosoft, the makers of Thunder Force II, played... even though it was a real-time strategy game instead.

Definitely grabbing it when it leaves Japan.

Re: Has The Chibi-Robo Studio Skip Pulled The Plug On Development?

Sabrewing

Skip's work on the bit Generations/Art Style series is why I liked them as a developer more than Chibi-Robo. Great little bite-sized puzzlers.

With how bad the MyNintendo offerings are in general, using Art Style to make quick, exclusive little games you could acquire by redeeming coins would have given the service some actual value. Something lower-effort than, say, Doc Louis' Punch-Out!! or that weird arm grabby game, but enough to draw notice away from only having phone wallpapers and game discounts.

Re: Timed Switch Exclusive Murder By Numbers Mixes Phoenix Wright With Picross

Sabrewing

This was honestly my favorite part of the indie showcase. It's like those silly hidden object games which try and shove the DEEP PLOT angle into the proceedings ("Oh no! My uncle Ravenloft died on Friday the 13th and left me this haunted mansion! Now go find a pinwheel, a turtle, a snow globe, three birds, and the letter K."), but the picross puzzles in this game are themed after the mystery you're solving, making them much easier to swallow in context.

It also reminds me of James Noir's Hollywood Crimes on 3DS, which was a murder mystery with bouts of Professor Layton in the proceedings. I guess combining murder mysteries with game genres is just a good idea in general, hehe.
