It's Media Create chart time, in which we see what's hot and what's not in Nintendo's homeland. This week brings a new release on Sony hardware to the top of the software chart, though Nintendo hardware continues its recent lead.
Bandai Namco's Tales of Berseria is the newcomer, with its PS4 and PS3 releases pushing more established 3DS and Wii U titles further down the reckoning. Nevertheless Yo-kai Watch 3 continues to do rather well, in particular, while Minecraft: Wii U Edition is the best performer for Nintendo's home console; the top 20 is below with lifetime sales in brackets.
- [PS4] Tales of Berseria (Bandai Namco, 08/18/16) – 173,537 (New)
- [PS3] Tales of Berseria (Bandai Namco, 08/18/16) – 76,186 (New)

- [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf (Happy Price Selection) (Nintendo, 03/17/16) – 3,626 (81,823)
Moving on to hardware, the New 3DS LL (XL) holds a solid lead despite a dip in sales, while the smaller New 3DS swaps places with the Wii U - Nintendo's struggling console is back under 5000 units for the week. The results are below with last week's results in brackets.
- New 3DS LL – 22,437 (24,382)
- PlayStation 4 – 17,596 (17,433)
- PlayStation Vita – 10,027 (11,240)
- New 3DS – 5,400 (5,354)
- Wii U – 4,702 (5,593)
- PlayStation 3 – 1,192 (1,064)
- 3DS – 835 (931)
- 3DS LL – 135 (225)
- Xbox One – 52 (56)
The New 3DS LL (in particular) continues a solid run at the top, which a number of evergreen titles continue to dominate top 10 placings for Nintendo and some third-party partners.

@ThomasBW84. I think something is wrong with one of the numbers at 16 and 17. They're identical and I highly doubt that's right.
Would like to see where EO V is at.
Gonna be slow Nintendo news until either NX starts to be publicized or we get close to October and some games start releasing again
I think those are the most unchanged hardware numbers I've ever seen week to week in Japan. Seems like there is always something going on there to shake things up, holiday, bundles, price drops.
Microsoft has the highest selling game on a Nintendo home console. That ain't right. Nintendo should have made an amiibo sandbox game, either something obvious like Mushroom Kingdom or Nintendo World, or weird like Tomodatchi Life or Miitomo. Something. Or heck, Nintendo should have made any game on Wii U the past 3 months.
@Spoony_Tech Indeed, I hopped over to 4Gamer and put the right numbers in. This week's sales were very close between those two (4,636 and 4,436).
Thanks for the heads up.
@rjejr - if NX is loaded with titles over the 1st couple of years.....when they finally announce it.....then I can overlook the sad ending to my Wii U considering it's abysmal sales. Not that I expect to get an NX anytime soon but for now I have a lot to play on Wii U with a few more games to come. Hopefully NX corrects what Nintendo screwed up with Wii U. Although my screw up list is different then most.
@rjejr I've never seen a system be laid out to pasture without a little last minute push. The saddest system ending in a long while. I'm still looking forward to Paper Mario & BotW, but that being said, there's a whole HOLIDAY with basically 0 games.
@RoomB31
Well at least we get Zelda. Of course it's also going to NX and will probably be better on NX, but hey we get a Zelda...if nothing else....sigh I give my Wii U a lot shit considering all the shit it gave me (my Gamepad battery finally fully dying is the latest in all the BS it throws my way), but I do feel sorry for it.
I know xbox has never had a market share in Japan. But 52 sales in a week is dreadful. Nice to see Nintendo will always be number one over there.
@Gerbwmu Next month on the Wii U Eshop,we get Axiom Verge,Shantae,Steamworld Heist and FAST Racing DLC.As far as the Eshop goes,it's probably its strongest ever month. Its last hurrah perhaps.
@AVahne that's Kinda my point, since Nintendo decided to double book it, there really isn't any incentive to buy the Wii U version (not that we know of) unless you dont want an NX. Sure it's a nice Finally but will be overshadowed by the NX version.
@OorWullie if that's the last hurrah then I'm sad, not that im not excited for those games, but it's only september by that point...
@RoomB31 Yep,it's a sad way to go out.Along with those 2 Wonder Boy games, those may well be the last new releases I buy on Wii U.Paper Mario I'm not sure about,if it reviews well I may get it.Other than that, there's Yooka Laylee next year but I'm kind of hoping it'll be on NX too.
@OorWullie fair enough. Im def getting Paper Mario, I just hope it lasts me all Winter
@Gerbwmu "then I can overlook the sad ending to my Wii U considering it's abysmal sales."
I can't. Zelda was supposed to be out last year, 2015, then 2016, now it looks like it's pushed back until 2017 just to time w/ the NX release. Though maybe it's just nowhere near done judging from all we've seen so far, there's no there there, just a tech engine demo. But if Zelda had released last year as promised, and SFZ had released last year as promised, then what would Wii U have for all of 2016? Did Ntindo build a new console to sell for 5 years but only planned to make games for 3 years? Poor sales are Ntinedo's fault for doing a bad job marketing, the people that spent $300-$350 deserve some games. Shifting them to NX doesn't help those people, more like insults them. I got our money's worth out of our Wii U, bought it 10 months after launch, but I can't help but feel Pikmin 4 is done, Luigi's Mansion 3 is done, maybe SM Galaxy 3 is done, but WIi U owners are being punished b/c Ninteod failed to sell it's system. And now we have to buy another Ntinedo console to play games we should be playing on our Wii U b/c Nitneod screwed up Wii U marketing. .
@RoomB31 Well said. I don't do well said, I do long winded.
I bought Wii U on April 2016. Well, almost late but doesn't really matter. So far, i got 7 until 8 Wii U titles on my shopping list and i don't plan to buy NX soon. Just keep waiting for further information and game title list after NX launched.
BTW, glad to see Wii U sales a bit better than PS3. (Bye bye PS3)
@rjejr thanks I rarely get a "well said"
Yeah, releasing more games on NX doesn't redeem Nintendo in my eyes either. It will get them on a better footing for this new gen, but severely cuts into the current and near future use of my Wii U.
Like you I have also enjoyed my Wii U a great deal, but its because of that enjoyment that I feel disappointment in the lack of new quality Nintendo games.
I love Tales of Berseria so far. Much better than Zestiria imo. Don't really like its theme song, though.
Here's a cool suggestion Nintendo: make us a 3ds that's painted like the one on that box. And release it in Europe AND North America!!!!
@RoomB31
Well I'm one of the ones who likely won't be buying an NX, unless a dedicated handheld version comes out for a very cheap price later on(no expensive docking, screening, whatever gimmicks please), so I'll just grab the Wii U version. At this point my siblings and I aren't bothered at all about not getting the newest Mario Kart or the newest Smash Bros., so we have no need for the NX :/
Wow, Kirby: Planet Robobot is still selling. Huh. That's good.
About 30% of Berseria sales are on PS3....
I remember a time when the top 2 pieces of hardware would sell 200,000 units every week. What a drop off compared to today
@rjejr - You are correct in your thoughts. Nintendo screwed up a lot including underestimating the change to HD and probably assuming some 3rd party support through out the life as well. It all adds up to disappointment everywhere. It is sad to think of games that should have or could have been.
In reality though, I got more games, that I wanted, then I can actually play so I can't be mad because as you say, I more then got my monies worth. It's a stage of life though.....In college I'd be mad at what little options I had. Still I have SteamWorld Heist, EarthLock, and Zelda to go and I still haven't finished XCX or TMS....so Ive got some playing to do.
Zelda should have been out in December for Wii U. And then deluxe NX version later. Color Splash and then Zelda for holidays would have sounded better.
Wow, I'd buy the Super Famicom Edition box by itself.
Description of Collar X Malice:
"The protagonist is a policewoman who works in Shinjuku, which had become a dangerous city after a series of brutal incidents popularly referred to as the "X-Day Incident".
She had been busy working in her assigned area everyday in order to keep it safe. But one night, an unknown assailant attacked her and placed a collar built in with poison around her neck.
Amidst the chaos and right before the protagonist’s eyes were men with suspicious backgrounds. They’re all part of an organisation composed of former police officers and have taken it upon themselves to investigate the brutal cases.
Without knowing whether she should trust these men or not, she suddenly became the person who held the key to this massive case.
In order to remove the collar that places her at the edge of death and to liberate Shinjuku from the malice that binds it, she cooperates; beginning to investigate the incidents with the men.
Who holds her life in their hands?
Will Shinjuku ever return to its former glory?"
More of an otome game and apparently coming to the west in 2017. Official site: http://www.otomate.jp/collar_malice/
@Incarta The only time that has ever actually happened was during the first 2 years after the launch of the Nintendo DS Lite, when the DS alone was comfortably selling at least 150,000 units per week in Japan alone.
However, that was the exception, not the norm. No other gaming platform before and after the DS, including the DS itself after holiday 2007, has been able to pull off those kind of weekly sales figures ever again. Of course, that's not to say the dedicated gaming market in Japan hasn't declined quite a bit in the last few years.
@Gerbwmu "Zelda should have been out in December for Wii U. And then deluxe NX version later. Color Splash and then Zelda for holidays would have sounded better."
That's exactly what I've been saying, this time last year for 2015.
When the Game Awards showed that video in Dec 2014 where the 2 developers both swore/promised SFZ and Zelda would both be out in 2015, well holiday 2015 was going to be great for Wii U, maybe even getting the sales # up for the console. But if those 2 guys swore SFZ and Zelda in 2015, well what games was Ntinedo planning for Wii U in 2016 w/ NX in 2017? Nintnedo is still promoting Zelda, a game they twice said was supposed to be out last year in 2015 - E3 and the Game Awards. Surley thye musthave planned for some games on Wii U in 2016 after SFZ and Zelda released -as planned - in 2015.
2015 should have been the great holiday for Wii U, whatever was supposed to make the 2016 holiday great for Wii U must now be on NX instead. We are missing out on games in 2016 b/c Ntineodo couldn't sell Wii U in 2015.
