Last week, Atlus officially began the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Persona series by opening a special website.
The page teases seven different projects which will be revealed between September 2021 and Autumn 2022. While at least one of these projects is expected to be Persona 6, there's already been plenty of speculation about what else fans might get.
Although Nintendo systems don't have all that much history with the series, the hybrid system could possibly receive another spin-off like Persona 5 Strikers. According to the leaker Zippo, the 2013/14 fighting game Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (co-developed by Atlus and Arc System Works) will be remastered for "modern platforms" next year.
Here's exactly what they had to say over on their blog:
"With Atlus' recent announcement that Persona is getting some soft of shendig for it's 25th anniversary in September, people are obviously wondering what the announcements will actually be. I can tell you one, today.
"Arc System Works' Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is getting a remaster, and is coming to modern platforms. I haven't been told whether or not it will feature new content, but I would personally be very surprised if it doesn't. A release is expected next year."
Zippo has previously mentioned the existence of Metroid Dread ahead of its official reveal and also confirmed Sonic & Knuckles would be returning.
How would you feel about a remaster of this Persona fighting game? Leave a comment down below.

Why must you continue post fake rumors from these nobodies..
Oh, yes! I don't have PS3, so I was hoping for these to be remade at some point. These are the only P4 stories that I have yet to experienced~
I believe it. Zippo tends to be somewhat in the know and it kinda just makes sense.
OOOOOOO lets goooo.
I’ve been wanting P4AU on PS4 and/or Switch, so I hope this rumor is true. More fighting games on Switch is never a bad thing.
@Blooper987 I’m confused. I heard Zippo and King Zell are the same person, but I have no clue if that’s true. King Zell is the only leaker I really trusted, given his track record was spotless, and he was the only one who didn’t constantly want attention.
Would of thought they would go straight to Persona 5 Arena or something. But rumour be rumour and majority of them are fake. Least it's not Jeff Grub or Emily Rogers this time.
Can’t we just get P4G on consoles?
I have it on PS3 but it’s not fantastic. Too many systems in play but hey, that’s Arc System Works for you.
@jameswarrensaid When it comes to Persona, you may as well just watch the anime adaptations if you don't own PlayStation consoles or a PC capable of emulation.
Why are we getting the spinoffs and not the main entries?
I want to believe, I loved playing P4A!
I've been waiting for this
@Aurumonado
Probably has something to do with (timed) exclusivity rights of mainline Persona games on Sony consoles and mainline Shin Megami Tensei games on Nintendo consoles. Whatever's the case, it's virtually useless.
If this is one thing of seven, I'll take it! I'd love to play P4U, especially if they port 4!
@Hydra_Spectre I have Persona 3-5 on PlayStation consoles - I’d just prefer to see P4G get a remaster (or even just a port honestly) rather than Arena. Hopefully some of the other 6 announcements are more appealing to me personally.
Zippo is not a reliable leaker.
Interesting idea. I would much rather have Persona 4 Golden though.
I was just thinking a few weeks ago that I really should get the dlc for ultimax. If this rumour is true then I will defo hold off on it.
@Hydra_Spectre the thing is, the anime skips over loads of the game’s plot, and in the case of Persona 5’s anime, it’s not even worth watching.
@XenoShaun Arc Sys is probably too busy focusing on Guilty Gear Strive DLC to make a fully new Persona fighting game
My guess is that there probably won't be any new stuff and will just be the game with the DLC bundled in. Don't know who they can add to the game from P3/P4 unless they bring back some of the characters that died in P3. They could add characters from P1/P2/P5 but they'd have to come up with some crazy excuse as to why they're there.
Modern platforms makes it sound like ps5 and Xbox only. We’ll see.
The amount of persona 4/5 beggars is really astounding.
I kinda agree with @TheFrenchiestFry now. I hope it does not come to switch just to spite the people that want it. Go play persona 4 on you laptop (or even stream it to your smartphone) and buy or lend a ps3/ps4 for persona 5 if you “want to play” it that bad.
You may be thinking that Atlus needs to listen to its fans but honestly if you, still after years of being on, exclusively, the vita and just on pc and still not on other consoles, think that it will release on switch, think again.
I hope that playstation (5)also gets persona 6 as an exclusive game.
Yes everything but the actual games
Meh. Whenever they decide to bring the mainline Personas to Switch, we'll talk.
For now, I'm totally focused on Shin Megami Tensei. V is looking brilliant!
@jameswarrensaid exactly! Why just on PC and Vita?
@BrintaPap If you asked the entire population of the world which game they would prefer on current consoles Persona 4 Golden or Persona 4 Arena Ultimax the most popular answer would be, "what are you talking about?" but what do you think would be second? Guess it is cheaper to remaster Arena.
Why not just make a new Persona Arena Ultimax that includes characters from all the series (mainly 3-5)
Modern as in coming up to five years old, platform?🙃
@Enigk I think 4G is easier to port personally but both should not be hard.
But to answer your question I’d choose P4G on xbox and playstation consoles to see the salt.
Played the original but not Ultimax, so I would pick it up. More than happy to see the P3/P4 cast again anyway
-they better include the DLC though.
@BrintaPap I have it on my Vita already so would prefer a big screen experience too given a choice.
A new version with Persona 5 characters and rollback (which Arc is now the king of) is the best not-Persona 6 announcement they could make.
They'd be raked to hell and back for not including P5 characters.
I'm a bit confused and I can't seem to find the answer elsewhere so I'm asking you guys:
What's the difference between Arena and Arena Ultimax? I thought the latter was a sequel to the former but I also heard that Ultimax is an enhanced version of Arena?
@Kirbo100 That makes a lot of sense. Shame if ends up being the case, I didn't particularly enjoy P4 Arena much, the story just fell flat for me. Doesn't help it had big shoes to continue filling after Persona 4 main game.
But it is better than those cheap (yet overpriced) dancing games. So that's something.
@Conangiga From what I can tell it's both. A sequel which you can buy the original game's content as DLC.
this'd make sense for the september announcement given that it was yellow coloured, persona 4s main colour. it'd also be pretty neat, hopefully some p5 bonus content is thrown in there
I am hoping for a new arena game to be announced as one of the seven. But if it turns out to be this I’d probably still get it if it comes to Switch or maybe even Steam.
My PS3 is taking up a lot of space.
@Conangiga It’s a sequel. The original arena story was also dlc.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax on PS4 and PC? since Persona is a Sony third party exclusive franchise.
@Aurumonado because Persona is a Sony third party exclusive franchise.
@Giancarlothomaz the original and ultimax were on Xbox
@NotGeno i see
Atlus being Atlus. I love their games, and the whole Megami Tensei "universe" is cool as hell, but I'm not really interested in an arena fighter. When and if a mainline Persona game is on the Switch, I'll happily give it a shot. Until then I'm good with SMT, and P5S which I haven't even really dug into yet.
Hype intensifies... for SMT V.
Got it on PS3, never played more than 5 minutes, hope i get a free upgrade on PS5 -which i don't own yet- but i dont count on it)
Switch owners: WE WANT P5R! WE WANT P5R!
Atlus: We have heard you all and we are ready for you!..
Switch owners: GASP
Atlus: P4A REMASTERED FOR ALL PLATFORMS!
Switch owners: 😐
No way that’s true, I think that they will make an arena game but there’s no chance that it’ll just be arena ultimax, because why would they skip out on using the persona 5 cast and especially name considering persona 5 is the more recognisable between it and 4. It may exist but there’s no way they’d advertise it as a remaster, they’d say it’s a new p5 arena spin off
Why just Ultimax though? Arena and Ultimax aren’t the same games storywise with Ultimax taking place shortly after the events in Arena. Not to mention these games heavily spoil P4/G which is the biggest reasons I’m for a port of P5/R to come to the Switch before playing Strikers.
@Giancarlothomaz
No it’s not. Nowhere does it say it’s exclusive.
@Giancarlothomaz There isn't any known, written contract or agreement that mainline Persona games are Sony exclusive. It just seems to be how Atlus wants to do things.
@BrintaPap @TheFrenchiestFry Childish, don't you think?
@Hydra_Spectre @jameswarrensaid but the animes all suck except the persona 3 one that one caught me of guard I thought it was alright all 4 movies are free on YouTube so check it out and form your own opinion. I recommend emulating persona 3 portable if you don't have a PS4 or steam as a first persona experience because it works on anything from phones to cheap computers. Yes it's pirating but to be honest who actually cares do it if you want and don't do it if it bugs you. But seriously the movies were okay check them out on YouTube if you want I had a good time watching them despite hating the other ones
@MsJubilee childish? Yeah i guess that’s true but for me it’s not the end of the world , ,far from it, but for some people that are begging for years for mainline persona games on switch it is.
Modern systems only? So it's going to be PC exclusive? that's interesting.
It's a sequel of a fighting game from Arc System Works, the chances of it coming to Switch is greater than Capcom and Namco's fighting games. Besides a majority of these characters were also in BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle and the Persona Q series so these aren't completely unknown to Nintendo players.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax's story was all over the place and it's probably going to go over the head of people who haven't played Persona 4 and 3 considering one of the new characters is directly related to a Persona 3 character, but in terms of gameplay it's one of the best 2D anime fighters I've ever played and had amazing online
@GameOtaku Ultimax actually had DLC that covered Arena's story as a catch up thing for people who didn't play the original, so I'd assume a remaster would just come with that and all the DLC characters out of the box
@Conangiga Ultimax is a sequel to Arena. Its story takes place directly after the first game and also boasts a much larger roster that includes more Persona 4 characters like Rise, Persona 3 characters that didn't show up in the first game like Yukari, Ken/Koromaru and Junpei, and shadow variations of all of them
@MsJubilee I wouldn't say it's childish. Arena's actually a really damn good fighting game regardless of your familiarity with Persona
@ModdedInkling "Timed" is a pretty light statement considering Persona 5 is still only on PS3/PS4 and Persona 3 is only on PS2 and PSP and has yet to ever be re-released on anything else including modern PlayStation consoles
@TheFrenchiestFry
SMT 3 was only on PlayStation 2 until recently and its multiplat in its current state. Persona is not exclusive to Sony and in the same vein neither is SMT to Nintendo. Atlus must have the worst business sense to not port to more systems for highly demanded games.
@GameOtaku Honestly the "SMT isn't exclusive to Nintendo argument" really doesn't hold up anymore
Sony literally got nothing after Nocturne in terms of main entries. SMT Strange Journey, SMT IV, IV Apocalypse and V have all skipped Sony consoles and V in particular is actually being published by Nintendo in Europe which means they probably collaborated with Atlus on worldwide distribution and are a large factor in the game getting a simultaneous release which has never happened for any of Atlus' other games
At this point if Persona 6 is still only a PlayStation game, then I think the ship has sailed on Nintendo getting anything mainline related, and no amount of port-begging is probably gonna change that. Persona is essentially a glorified exclusive franchise in the same way No More Heroes is to Nintendo or even Final Fantasy was to Sony back in the day. It will always be on other platforms; the Q games are literally Nintendo-exclusives featuring the P3-5 casts, but until and unless the Switch lives out its entire cycle without a Persona port, Persona's practically exclusive to PlayStation without Atlus having to admit it
@MsJubilee Look if Persona comes to Switch, I'll double dip, but if it doesn't it's not the end of the world for me
I own a Vita for P1-4 and a PS4/PS5 for P5. These games not coming to Switch doesn't affect me at all even if it would be nice to see
(If true) ATLUS must be smoking crack. Instead of giving what EVERYONE wants (i.e. the mainline games) they keep pumping out spinoff that no one wants or asked for.
For the record I like Strikers but I'd much rather have the original P5 (as would many many others)
@Bizzyb "they keep pumping out spinoffs that no one wants or asks for"
Yeah it's not like Persona 4 Arena was a super well received fighter that had a sizable competitive presence and brought a lot of fighting game players over into trying out the main entries or anything
It's not like Persona 4 Dancing and Q literally happened because of fan demand for a Persona rhythm game or a Persona game on 3DS or anything
Bleh.. I don’t really care unless the main games come to Switch firstly.
@Aurumonado If you mean like P3 remaster or P4G on all platforms then those will most likely be revealed later on in the anniversary. If you mean like a new Persona game then we'll probably get a teaser for P6 like next year or something lmao. (Assuming that it's even gonna be showing up at all.)
Combine Persona 3 Fes with P3 Portable and I'll be happy.
@Indielink then why all mainline Persona games only release on Sony consoles, when others consoles got Persona spin-off.
Sounds Cool! Hope it comes our way
@Giancarlothomaz Dunno. But there has been no comment from Atlus or Sony on the matter and no proof of money changing hands.
I'll double dip, fighting as the shadow versions was pretty cool.
Please don’t start…
@TheFrenchiestFry @NotGeno @Grumblevolcano
Thank you for your answers. A remaster should include the DLC from the get go which means I can finally experience both games (if the rumor is true).
If there's no rollback I'll just stick to the PS3 version. I would gladly pay $60 just for added rollback, otherwise forget it.
@TheFrenchiestFry
I'm referring to the latest games in the series. Until the next game comes out, the current main game is stuck to a console.
With Persona 3, it's still bound to get a special HD re-release/remaster that further improves off of the PSP version and potentially release on other platforms. Perhaps they'll bring out something like that when Persona 6 is nearing completion.
I'm only optimistic because of SMT 3 (featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series!) finally came onto a Nintendo console.
If this rumour is true, just goes to show Atlus has no idea what people want or do and could care less. Clearly everyone has many asks and this is not even one person's ask.
Add a few p5 characters in , give us all the dlc from before and I'll bite I believe the original is stuck on xbox 360 and ps3 (maybe on ps now but I've tired that service for a year and wasn't impressed at all)
