Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's monstrous roster is just hours away from being complete, with the release of final fighter Sora and the game's Version 13.0.0. update both imminent.
Revealed during the special Smash Bros. Direct earlier this month, Sora arrives in-game on Monday 18th October in the US, and on Tuesday 19th October in Europe. While an exact time hasn't been given, the timezone differences suggest that the new content will arrive somewhere between 4pm and midnight PT today (which equates to 12am - 8am CEST on Tuesday morning).
Sora joins the party alongside a new batch of Mii Fighter costumes which includes Doom Slayer; we've already been treated to a look at Sora's stage, music, Final Smash, and Kirby transformation ahead of time. Sora's arrival also means that the game will be updated to its latest version, so make sure to save those replays before the update drops.
So here we are, with less than 24 hours until the Smash roster is all done and dusted. How do you feel now that it's coming to an end? Is this the greatest character lineup any game has ever seen? Share your thoughts with us below.

Sad to see it all end, knowing that there's NO WAY everyone on this full roster would be in the next Smash Bros... if there even is another Smash Bros. 🥺 I want there to be another Smash Bros one day. But, what would Sakurai have to do to top this one.
@CharlieGirl thats true, i think there will be another smash bros game tho.
End of an era. Gonna miss the DLC hype train a lot
@PikaPhantom I will too, but in a way, I am glad that it's finished. It's been an incredible journey, and it's been really cool to see it go through its full course. I will miss getting excited about a presentation, though.
Excited to buy and play this soon - shame it's an end of an era though.
This truly is an Ultimate game
@CharlieGirl I can't imagine there wouldn't be another one. It's become one of Nintendo's biggest franchises. Of course it won't be the same roster and it doesn't need to be. There's probably enough untapped Nintendo characters alone to put forth a couple of games going forward. Not to mention other 3rd party characters to choose from
People who think that the best selling fighting game of all time won’t be getting a sequel are crazy. Selling 25 million is a crazy feat. Why do people even think ninty would stop making it.
Sure it's the best character lineup a game has ever seen but that was already the case before the DLC. Kind of excited to try out Sora even if he wasn't my personal wish.
@StarPoint Yeah, it has been a pretty wild ride. I'm kinda surprised they aren't at least filling out the stage select screen; I also think more DLC could've been a prime opportunity to begin preparing a successor to Sakurai, since Smash is too big of an IP to abandon, and it would've been a good opportunity to flesh out a few strange omissions. Genuinely surprised that Koei Tecmo or Activision Blizzard didn't get anything considering that Nintendo has worked with them both within the last several years (Bowser and DK in Skylanders, Warriors crossovers and Three Houses) and there was a fair amount of buzz for Crash and Ryu Hayabusa in particular. Still, it's hard to complain about the pretty strong lineup we got
@BrintaPap Don't know if anyone is saying they won't put out a sequel, but something that a lot of folks are speculating is that the next Smash's roster will take a step back from Ultimate's "Everyone's Here" model.
I feel like the next Smash will really shake things up now that we’ve gotten the ultimate version of what we currently know as Smash Bros. I personally wouldn’t mind the roster getting scaled back if it meant beefing up other parts of the game, like the single-player campaign.
Maybe the next game is going to have a lot of cut characters, but the veterans will slowly come back as free DLC, or paid DLC since it's Nintendo.
Or maybe the next game will just be a Deluxe version of Ultimate, the same game with better graphics, more Fighters and more content.
@CharlieGirl Of course there will be a new one! The sales figures for Smash are through the roof. It makes Nintendo millions of pounds.
@g_ruz I was pretty satisfied with the single-player campaign for Ultimate. I mean, they could have been more cut-scenes or branching paths to fill out the story, but for a fighting game's story mode, it's fine.
I completely forgot that was today until earlier in the morning, which is a nice feeling. I’ll be sure to get a few matches in when Sora drops; it’s always a good day when a new character drops.
Yes! The final DLC is releasing soon! That means people will finally STFU about "leaks and rumors DLC" and let Sakurai rest! Seriously, those Waluigi "leaks" are just bogus and people being desperate to seek attention and annoy Sakurai over an Assist Trophy! If you are mad that Sora get in and not the character you wanted, guess what? You can't have everything you want! Though such thing never exists in Smash fans books because they always wanna bite more than they can chew, so stop begging and start Smashing!
Anybody know if Doomguy comes with music?
@victordamazio Suck it up if it's paid DLC. Capcom, NetherRealm's, Namco and SNK has done those as well. You can't have everything free in life and be lazy.
@streetzman Dude, calm down. No one has complained in this article.
@CharlieGirl Seeing how popular Smash Bros is... they will be making these games until the end of time. However, I think this was the last one created by Sakurai.
@FroZtedFlakerZz He doesn't, sadly. Still, considering he was one of my top picks and the costume itself looks pretty great, I'm really considering buying this mii costume anyway.
@streetzman Agreed aside from the "lazy" comment, that was uncalled for - but yeah, Nintendo was one of the last ships to dock at the paid DLC island. Nintendo giving everything away for free was the exception.
I’ll have to get back into Smash eventually. As much as I’ve been keeping up with all the DLC stuff I haven’t really been playing Smash all that much.
@Bret Wait? I just don't understand this "free" talk recently. I mean with Xbox Live Gold, Game Pass, EA Access, PS+ and PSNow you are still buying even though they are subscriptions with multiple games. I mean I'd rather own the games instead and I buy season passes for fighting games and games I enjoy anyway.
@streetzman bud, I'm agreeing with you
@CharlieGirl
I think the next smash is going to be quite different from this. I'm imagining a much smaller roster, but more room for customization/depth
@CharlieGirl
By the time they are ready to make another Smash Bros I hope Sakurai passes the torch and lets someone else ruin their mental health for our enjoyment
@CharlieGirl to what Sakurai could do to improve the next Smash Bros my own response would be...improve the stability and performance of the online multiplayer client. That was the game's only true Achilles heel/weakness. Thanks. Out!
If there is a next one they better have 1 more Sega or Sonic character or I riot.
I just Don't know what would top this one, or could, its amazing, If they do make more smash games, could they at least port this along with it, It would be nice, I would buy it over again.
Sora... 9-9:15pm? Just guessing from a clear pattern
Joker: 9 p.m. Eastern
Hero: 9 p.m. Eastern
Banjo-Kazooie: 9 p.m. Eastern
Terry Bogard: 9 a.m. Eastern
Byleth: 9 p.m. Eastern
Min Min: 9:15 p.m. Eastern
Minecraft Steve: 9:15 p.m. Eastern
Sephiroth: 9 p.m. Eastern
Pyra/Mythra: 9 p.m. Eastern
Kazuya: 9 p.m. Eastern
.
Smashbros is Nintendos system seller. I have never seen ao many people cry over a character reveal trailer hahaha!
Man those where the best videos on YouTube ever.
I was most suprised about Cloud and Megaman.
I think sakurai will pass the torch to another and he himself will focus on new stuff.
The next smash can only top this one, if it gets another story mode (aka subspace style)
There definitely will be another smash bros but now I'm interested to see what Sakurai works on next.
Thinking of picking this up soon as I've always been interested in smash games but I just suck at fighting games in general.
Is this game heavily populated? Like can find games with ease and in no time.
Overall while I may have been disappointed with the fighters passes, you can't deny that bringing every previous fighter together and making them work so well is an incredible feat.
Contrary to most, I’m glad it’s over. I can’t be doing with all the wild, meaningless speculation. And seeing some people get upset/angry when it doesn’t turn out how they wanted/hoped. It’s a bit depressing tbh. Don’t care about Sora, but I’ll give him a go when he releases. Probably more excited about Doomguy Mini costume tbh.
Sitting alone on a grassy hill, Waluigi looks to the stars and whispers to himself 'One day it will be my turn...one day...sigh...'
Shantae walks up and sits next to him, puts her hand on his distressed shoulder and says 'Yes it will...for both of us.'
It's sad that SSBU ends very soon, but at least they ended on a very high note.
SSBU will go down as the most content-rich Smash, for sure. It's sad to see it end. Ideally, I'd like to see Ultimate ported to the Switch 2 or whatever follows, however unlikely. Polish whatever necessary for a new generation, give it rollback, etc., and call it a day. Why start over with such a great foundation?
@BrintaPap They will probably make another Smash game down the line, but as Sakurai himself said in the beginning the series peaked with Ultimate as the effort that went for Ultimate [striving for big content, lots of license deals, etc] won’t be replicated in hypothetical future titles.
This was further emphasized in the end when they showed all those flex stats for the amount of content in Ultimate which I don’t see future titles getting close again.
100 characters for the next Smash game. Who's with me? Like if you agree.
@CharlieGirl
Unless, of course, they go the "Previous Game: Complete Edition" route (see Hyrule Warriors) on the next system.
@AlexSora89 I'd be ok with that, actually.
Some of y’all need to live in the present stop speculating about the future and enjoy what’s right in front of you…(says the guy who’s on a game news page that speculates all the time.)
I'm not sure who she is but I was fine with the base games rosta so all's good.
@victordamazio
"Or maybe the next game will just be a Deluxe version of Ultimate, the same game with better graphics, more Fighters and more content."
hopefully they do that !!
@CharlieGirl You seriously think Nintendo won't make another game in a successful series? REALLY?
Riiiight
@CharlieGirl
Def agree it's nice to see it end. Been playing smash since i was 10 and now 31. I think its nice to see games come to an end because as we know if it stays around to long it losses that greatness. I have 5 boys 6th on the way and they all enjoy smash.
Same for other games to though like how many halos are we going to get? Its time for that to end and have something better come through.
Sakurai had a great career and owes us nothing. I honestly told myself this was my last smash when this dropped 2yrs ago and same for zelda. It’s time to move on. Life to short to be stuck on the same thing.
@Metalinkster agree. Enjoy whats in front you! This new generation does not know how to stop speculating.
Lol this roster is far from the greatest. It's very clear there was a bias towards Japanese anime style characters.
